Part 16
It has been fifteen minutes since time started ticking again, so far I learned these women's name is Lily, she has two children, a six year old son named Austin, and a fifteen year old daughter named Kristin, she is a lawyer and is doing some case about someone who attempted murder. She divorced her husband and now has to take care of Kristin and Austin all by herself. I haven't learned much more about her, because I have been staring out the window and listening to the GSP for directions.
The views in this town are completely different from home. There is so much more buildings, that a way better looking than ours. The neighborhoods seem more expensive, I mean half of them has a great surrounding it, with a keypad used to enter. My neighborhood is just some tiny one that is connected to a street that hardly anyone takes. We don't have a keypad at our entrance, we are just greeted by overgrown trees that the hits the school bus every time it drives under the tree. This place has newer, or more updated buildings with actual parking lots, most of the town's shops you have to park out in the street. Even their gas stations are nicer than ours, just driving by them you could tell. Everyone seems to be dressed in nicer clothes, not that our clothes aren't bad, or trashy, we just all don't go walking around in suits. The yards here are kept up, all them have that "freshly cut" look, not a single straw of grass is untouched.
Another few minutes I pull up in to the entrance in the parking lot of the hospital. There is cars placed in every single spot, filling the lot like a deck of cards in its box I wont be able to find a spot here. I swerve with my foot barely touching the pedal, to make the car as slow as possible, just in case there is that one spot. A few minutes passed and still nothing. I finally pull up to the drop off center. OK, now its time to get Lily taken care of. I instantaneously open the door and jolted up to the door. Once I got to the glass doors with two stickers saying something on we should wash our hands and keep germs away, the doors opened up automatically, I was introduced with a cool breeze. It felt quite rejuvenating I came up to a second pair of doors that automatically opened, and went straight to the counter. Lucky there was someone there, so I was able to speak with someone.
The African-American accountant was away from the counter seeming like he was organizing papers in a folder. He was very tall, had slim shoulders. Glasses peered over the back of his ear, there were barely holding on as he was scrunched over the counter. His gray scrub stretching across his back. He lazily stands up and rubs his huge hands along his bald head. Now is my time to tell him, when he doesn't seem busy.
"Hay, do you have a wheel chair? I have someone in the car who was in a pretty bad car accident." When I said that the man's head shot up staring at me. His wide eyes shouted worry while his smile was trying to hide it.
"How bad?" His deep voice rang. He can't seriously be asking that question right now.
"Well, considering she couldn't wait for an ambulance, that's why I brought her here." Reality struck him, you could tell on his face. His thick eyebrows raised and crinkled his forehead. He took a couple of seconds to try to process everything.
"Yea, let me go get one." He said pointing behind him. I watched as he turned and went around a corner. He shortly came back with a black and silver wheelchair, with the foot pedals up.
We rushed back to the car through the opening doors and out to the drop-off location. I abruptly opened the passenger side door and Lily let out a distressed moan like she had been for the ride. The man shortly saw her and froze in his tracks at the sight.
Blood covered the scarf, dripped on to the seat, and all the way to the floor. Red stained her clothes and legs even more than before. I thought she scarfs would help stop the bleeding, not make I worse? How come I didn't see all the blood? How come I didn't smell it, blood has a pretty strong smell?
My train of thought is interrupted by something pushing along my leg, I look down to find the man is trying to lightly push me away with the chair. I let him through and he positions the chair to face him standing next to the car, but also have an easy way to set Lily down. After setting the brakes on the wheels, by flipping a lever that moves a piece of metal against the wheel on both sides, he attempts to carefully take Lily out of the car, making sure he doesn't move the stomach in any way that would make her bleed more, or make her feel anymore pain, than she is already suffering. I stand there watching as he awkwardly sets Lily down in the chair as gentle as possible. He undoes the breaks, turn the chair, and shuts the door with his hips.
He heads to the front door as snappy as he can. I continue to stand in my position, watching him, until he pauses for a moment, looks at me and says, "Come in with me."
