Part 12
Everything was quiet, I couldn't hear people talking. I couldn't hear any noise except for my own breathing. None of the birds chirped, none of the cars whizzed past like they had a few seconds ago. It was all eerily silent, like the deepest cave inside a tomb.
I lift my head to find everyone frozen. Everything had turned into statues, stopped mid-movement.
A bird was frozen in mid-flight above me, even the leaves falling from the tree a little farther hung in the air. I couldn't hear any ticking anywhere.
I rushed to glance at my clock. The dials were stuck.
A time-freeze?
Did I just... freeze time?
I stood up shakily, trying to assess what had happened. I walked over to the small crowd, finally getting a chance to fully see what's going on.
I walk over to the crowd, pushing past a tall ginger, cautiously moving people's limbs from the way. A woman lay in front of me, small and petite, with blonde, messy hair covering the right side of her face. Her body seems to be bone and tissue, with little muscle.
I gasp when I finally see the wound on the woman. The source of all this blood, the aftermath of horror.
Blood is all over her wavy, ocean-blue blouse, and light blue jeans. The smell of iron in the air is excruciating nauseating.
I could barely tell where the wound was, but she's holding her stomach with bloodstained short, thin fingers. A look of such pain etched upon her face, I shiver in horror, gooseflesh rising up on my neck as I wondered how she might've been feeling.
Dr. Thomas is hovering over her, he seems to be trying to comfort her. I guess he knows she won't be able to make it. Maybe he's just trying to make her last moments comfortable...
I look around frantically, trying to search for the source of this mayhem. What I see takes my breath away.
A black sedan is smashed into a humongous 18-wheeler, the front maimed beyond recognition.
The scene reminds me of a fledgling and a rhino crashing into each other after running as fast as they could. The bird practically dead, and the rhino is left with close to no damage.
I turn back to the woman who is little away from the scene, her blood seemingly gushing through what could be a horrific wound.
The doctor seems to have realized he can do nothing to help her, a look of sympathy covers his face.
I need a way to get her to the hospital before it's too late. She can't die on the side of the street. She needs a chance better than this. She needs someone with professional equipment to help her; someone who can give her the she chance to live. I sit there for a moment trying to think of a way to help.
I look back at her, then to the SUV I rode in. Maybe, I could try to drive her to the nearest hospital... I shove my way through the crowd, over to the SUV in which the rest of my family awaits frozen in time.
I opened the driver's door, realizing that the driver was still there. I got him out of the car with a great amount of difficulty due to his large size, but once I did, I hopped in to the seat, turning the key frantically.
The engine roared loudly at the second ignition. A smile of relief formed as I sat back in my seat.
Thank goodness. I didn't want to carry her all the way to the hospital.
I run back to the woman, pushing everyone aside to make a clear path. I could feel my lungs starving from the need of oxygen, my muscles sore by the time I finished. I tried my best to move quick, trying to pull her up. Her arms fall to her side revealing the wound...
And what was sticking out of it.
