Prologue

She sat there, her watery eyes lowered on the table in front of her. Her brown hair dishevelled in many places, it was long and it shadowed her eyes but trail marks of tears were cast on her dirty and bloody cheeks. She looked like she had fought a fight she could never win.

"Skylar Evans." Said a deep voice, followed by the sound of a chair clattering away from the table. The officer sat in front of her, preparing some papers for the interrogation.

They were in a dimly lit room, a single light bulb hanging down from the centre of the ceiling. It was covered with every shade of grey. The corners were barely visible, but the shadows seemed to draw Skylar near, to crawl and hide at the corner, clutching on to her corpse-like body. Such fear ran through her veins, she heard unstable, beating in an odd rhythm. What would happen to her now?

The man cleared his throat, "I would like you to tell me what happened tonight." It was not a question but a command.

Skylar shifted her position on the chair, feeling uncomfortable. She looked down at the clothes she was wearing, a long white dress covered in dirt and was tattered and ripped around the knees but blood covered her front. The straps that were supposed to hold on to her shoulders fell lopsided.

"Please, we need every detail." The officer said.

"You have the details in front of you." Skylar's voice was dry and cracked, her lips in the same condition.

"It doesn't make sense. How did it happen? Let's start from the beginning, shall we?" He said kindly. But there was silence. Skylar did not wish to speak of it. "I know this must be hard for you, to relive everything again, but it's best if you bring out the truth right now than to wait until you're comfortable enough to find a good lie. Do you understand?"

Skylar slowly nodded, tears flooded harder down her cheeks like a waterfall. "I didn't know what else to do," She quivered, "But it wasn't my fault… I want to take this secret down to the grave."
