Idea taken from Tailor's Magic Needle

It was a busy day for Handy Smurf, every smurf continued asking him for favors.

Nat: Handy! Our seesaw fell apart, can you fix it?

Handy: I'll be right over.

Nat: Thanks, Handy! *runs off*

Greedy: Handy, my oven needs some smurfing!

Handy: Sure, Greedy, I'll fix it.

Greedy: Thanks, Handy, you're a life smurfer!

Smurfette: Handy, my door's squeaking, I need you to fix it.

Handy: No problemo, Smurfette!

Smurfette: Thank you, Handy!

But what none of the Smurfs paid attention to was that Handy was already trying to build something, his dream workshop, his was already rundown and he was trying to rebuild it. He stared at the blueprint sadly.

Handy: I guess this'll have to wait.

Still, Handy kept getting favors that were getting in his way.

Poet: Handy, I need shelves for my poems!

Hefty: Handy, My barbells are broken!

Jokey: Handy, I need more space for my surprises!

Clumsy: Uh, Handy! My door's broken!

Finally, Handy just lost it and collapsed, the Smurflings were the first to notice.

Sassette: Poor Handy.

Slouchy: Yeah, he works so hard for everysmurf, I never realized how much the Smurfs need him.

Sassette: I think Handy needs a break.

Brainy: Exactly what I was thinking, Sassette! And I have the perfect spe-plan!

Snappy: Smurfaroo, what do you mean, Brainy?! What are you up to now?!

Brainy: You Smurflings are too young to understand, let Brainy Smurf handle this.

Sassette: Slipping Snails, here we go again!

Later, Handy gazed at his blueprint, his tears falling on it, soaking it a little bit. Brainy barged in unexpectedly.

Handy: B-Brainy?!

Brainy: Unless I'm mistaking, and I never am, something's troubling you, Handy!

Handy: Well, yeah, I guess you could say that.

Brainy: Perfect! I-I mean, what's the matter?

Handy: Oh, it's nothing, Brainy, just leave me alone.

Handy put his blueprint away sadly.

Brainy: Of course! What you need is an extra set of hands!

Handy: What do you know about building stuff?!

Brainy: Handy, Handy, Handy, you're talking to the brainiest Smurf in all of Smurf Village, me! I'll smurf you everything you need!

Handy: But Brainy-

Brainy: Trust me! You'll thank me later!

Brainy had snuck into Papa Smurf's lab, he had Handy stand on a chair with his hammer.

Handy: Brainy, are you out of your smurf?!

Brainy: Nonsense, until Papa Smurf returns, I'll be solving all your problems!

Handy: Brainy, I don't-

Brainy: Shhh!

Brainy searched through Papa Smurf's books and found a spell that could work.

Handy: I don't think this is a good idea Brainy.

Brainy: Aha! I got it! Read this, Handy!

Brainy showed Handy the spell, Handy felt like he didn't have a choice, if he wanted to get Brainy out of his smurf, he had to go along with whatever insane idea he had. He read the spell out loud.

Handy: *gulps* Uh...Hammer Hammer in my hand, 

Time for you to smurf your trend, 

As these magic words are said, 

HAMMER AND HEAD COME TO LIFE!!!!!

To their surprise, the spell worked, Handy's hammer was brought to life, it began to float in midair.

Brainy: It's alive! IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!

Handy was dumbstruck, his hammer flew out of the lab.

Handy: Hey! Come back!

He began to chase it back to his workshop, but to his surprise, the hammer managed to fix his workshop, exactly how it looked in his blueprints.

Brainy: It works! It really works!

Handy: I was gonna smurf that workshop! How'd it do it so quickly?!

Brainy: It has magical powers, it can smurf anything you want, and best of all, you won't have to work your fingers to the smurf!

Handy: I can't believe I'm saying this, but thanks, Brainy!

Handy ran into his workshop.

Later, all the Smurfs stormed into the workshop, Handy was fixing Baby Smurf's cradle. But none of them went to Handy, instead, they went to his new hammer. It was fixing and building stuff faster than Handy was. It redid the Smurfling's playset, it fixed chimneys, and even built the theater Handy was gonna make. It didn't take long for Handy to notice.

Handy: Uh, Smurfs?

Clumsy: Gosh, Handy, your hammer's certainly very helpful! It fixed my whole house!

Handy: But-

Smurfette: Clumsy's right, Handy, your magical hammer can fix and build stuff faster!

Handy: But there's one thing that I have that the hammer doesn't!

Brainy: Handy, Handy, Handy, what could you possibly have that the hammer doesn't.

Jokey: *laughs* How about we have a competition! Then we'll see who's better!

Handy: You're on!

All the Smurfs gathered at the center of the village.

Brainy: Smurfs, we're gonna have a competition, we'll see who's better! Handy, or the hammer?

The Smurfs cheered.

Brainy: May the best Smurf win! On your mark, get set, smurf!

Handy started repairing the furnace at Greedy's place, all the Smurfs started cheering for him.

All: Go Handy! Go Handy!

Handy worked as fast as he could, the hammer had already repaired 3 roofs and was working a lot faster than Handy. When he finally finished the furnace, he was in shock to see that the whole village looked good as new. Even the other Smurfs were shocked.

Handy: Gee, I guess the other Smurfs don't need me anymore, looks like this is it for Handy Smurf.

Feeling defeated, Handy went back to his workshop in tears.

Handy started putting his toolbox away, but soon, the Smurflings barged into the workshop.

Nat: Handy, help us!

Slouchy: It's a catastrosmurf!

Handy: What's wrong, Smurflings?

Sassette: Hammering Hounds! Your hammer's out of control! Our clubhouse has been completely smurfed! The walls crumbled along with our bunks!

Snappy: Yeah! There's nowhere for us to sleep now!

Handy: Don't worry, Smurflings, I'm sure that with a little Handy Dandy care, your clubhouse will be as good as smurf!

Handy took his toolbox and followed the Smurflings to their clubhouse, he fixed the hollow wall and the fragile bunks, he tapped them lightly, they were as sturdy as stone. Baby smiled as his cradle was fixed now.

Nat: Smurfaroo! Thanks, Handy! I'm sure we'll sleep well tonight now!

Sassette: Grateful Grizzly Bears! Thanks so much, Handy!

Handy: Nothing to it, little ones!

Snappy: Y'know, that hammer might be fast, but it doesn't smurf anything the way you do, Handy!

Sassette: Snappy's right, Handy, you're the smurfiest! No one fixes anything like you do!

Handy: You're right! That hammer has to go!

Brainy: Are you sure about this Handy?

Handy: Absosmurfly, I've had enough of this hammer, I'd rather use it with my bare hands!

Brainy: Okay, but you'll be sorry you reversed the spell, Handy Smurf. *looks through the book* If you say the spell backwards, it might reverse the spell.

That's exactly what Handy tried to do, but instead of reversing the spell, it only made things worse. The hammer turned black and red and started destroying everything in its way.

Brainy: Oh no! Now look what you did! My beautiful-I-I mean our beautiful creation! Ruined!

Handy: Oh no! We've gotta stop it!

The hammer had already destroyed multiple houses, the Smurfs were all panicking and running around. Handy chased the hammer across the village. When he saw it atop the theater, he chased it up there, but it disappeared as soon as he got to the top.

Handy: Where'd it go?

The hammer reappeared at the bottom and started destroying the foundation of the theater, the theater began to collapse.

Nat: Handy, look out!

Handy acted fast and jumped off the theater.

Handy: Oh no! Now we have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch!

Smurfette: That's the least of my worries, Handy! What'll Papa Smurf say when he gets back?!

Handy: *gasps* Papa Smurf!

At that moment, Papa Smurf returned to the village.

Papa: *sighs* It's nice to be back in the village.

The hammer suddenly appeared and whacked Papa Smurf right in the back, he flew above the village and fell into a bush.

Smurfette: Papa Smurf!

Papa: Great Smurf! What was that?!

Handy: My hammer, Papa Smurf!

Brainy: Papa Smurf! Thank smurfness your back! I can explain everything!

Papa: Oh no, not again!

Brainy laughed nervously.

Papa: Quickly! We must catch that hammer and reverse the spell!

Handy: Right away, Papa Smurf!

Handy and a few other Smurfs started chasing the hammer, it was rather fast, so it was impossible to catch.

Smurfette: What do we do?!

Handy: I have an idea, everysmurf! Follow me!

The Smurfs chased the hammer into the forest.

Handy: Now!

A few Smurfs jumped out of the smurfberry bushes with a net, the hammer crashed into it and fell to the ground. Handy pinned it to the ground.

Handy: Hurry, Papa Smurf!

Papa Smurf began to reverse the spell.

Papa: Hammer Hammer in the ground,

You've done your part all around

May your powers fade into dust and air

Hammer and Head no longer live!

The hammer lost its power and once again became an inanimate object. Handy hugged it smiling.

Papa: Is everysmurf alright?

All: Yes Papa Smurf!

Handy: I'm just glad to have my hammer back!

Papa: Brainy, I hope this is a lesson for you.

Brainy: Yes Papa Smurf, I'm sorry, Papa Smurf.

Papa: Let this be a lesson to all of you, no magic will ever replace what you smurf dearest.

All: Yes Papa Smurf!

Brainy: Exactly what I told Handy, Papa Smurf, but he-

Papa: Brainy!

Once again, Brainy was kicked out.

Brainy: One of these days, those Smurfs will fix that habit.
