Stories on the rooftop
Gosh I haven't updated this in a while, welp I'm back!
Also I decided to just do this in random order instead of age order cause I kept getting ideas and was like "I should have done that." So yeah.
Anyway onto the chapter.
Kai is ten.
Nya is eight.
In Kai's opinion getting stuck on the roof while trying to clean out the drains was the worst situation you put yourself and your sister into.
And it was all because someone forgot to hold the ladder and it fell down.
To be honest, they probably wouldn't be that situation if it wasn't for their "lovely" aunt telling Kai and Nya to do chores.
And the worst part is that everyone's out so they can't get someone to put the ladder back up.
"Now what do we do?" Nya said, backing up as to not fall down.
"Try to get down."
"How?"
"I was hoping that you knew the answer to that." Kai admitted.
"We could wait 'till everyone comes back." Nya suggested.
After a few minutes of laying on the roof with the scorching sun on their faces Kai finaly burst.
"Ugh! I can't wait any longer!" He groaned.
"It's only been fifteen minutes."
"Really? Cause it felt like an eternity."
"How about we do something to pass the time?"
"Like what?"
"Let's play I spy! It'll be fun!" Nya said while slightly jumping up and down. "I'll start. I spy with my little eye something big and blue."
"The sky? That's the best you can do?" Kai said unamused.
"I'd like to see you try." Nya replied.
"Fine." He sat up and looked around "I spy with my little eye..... a random person walking down the street."
"That's even worse than mine." Nya said as she tried to sit up without losing her balance. "Oh and that's Luke by the way."
"Who?"
"Luke. Our neighbour."
"You know him?"
"He's our neighbour, of course I know him!" Nya said, rolling her eyes.
"Well I didn't even know he was our neighbour." Kai said.
"Wait a minute, we could have asked him to help us down!" Nya yelled as luke dissapeared into the distance. "Gosh we're so stupid!"
"Yes we are." Kai said and lied down again.
Another few minutes go by and the sun is starting to come down with them still lying on the roof in total silence until Nya said,
"Hey kai, How was life when our parents were still alive?"
"It was great." He simply replied.
"Do you remember anything?" She asked.
"Yeah, I remember this one time we made a huge pillow fort in the backyard... And the one in which you found bluebell-"
"What about the one in which you thought you were a dragon and climbed a tree to fly but ended up getting scared and then wet yourselves." Nya said while laughing.
"How did you know about that?! Not that it ever happened." Kai quickly said and was turning as red as his shirt.
"Well you see, there's this thing called a photo album-" Nya started but was cut off by Kai.
"Please don't show it to anyone!" He begged.
"Don't worry, I won't." She laughed and Kai took a sigh of relief.
"But maybe I will." She mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing! Could you continue what you were saying?"
"Okay, So there was also this one time when you chased a bunch of neighbourhood kids with a baseball bat cause they called you a crybaby and they ended up being the real crybabies.... and the time when I lost my first tooth and we stayed up all night to see the tooth fairy but ended up falling asleep halfway through.... And the one time I drop kicked a kid from your grade cause he pushed you." he said with a slight smile on his face.
"I really wish I could've have remembered all of that. They sound like great memories." Nya said a little sadly. "I dont really remember much other than dad's stories and mom's songs...Can you tell me what mom and dad were like?"
"Sure, So mom, she was a really great and nice person but she was also strict but not aunt and uncle strict. For example there was this one time when it was a snow day and I didn't want to wear a scarf. So mom didn't let me go outside until I wore it." He explained "Dad was more on the chill and fun side but he wouldn't hesitate to scold you if you did something really bad."
"They sound like nice people."
"They were. Dad would always give us piggy back rides and tell us stories and mom would cook amazing meals and sing to us..." He trailed off with his voice slightly quivering and turned his head away from her.
Nya being Kai's sister of course sensed that something was wrong.
"You okay?" She said.
He nodded and hummed in response.
Nya snuggled closer to him and said "It's okay, you can tell me, I won't say anything."
"I-I really miss them." He sniffled.
"Me too, even though I don't fully remember them. I still wish I got to know them..." Nya said as she hugged her brother who hugged back.
"Yeah..."
They stayed like that for a while in a comfortable silence. Not saying anything, just snuggled next to each other and watching the sky change from blue to reddish pink.
Who knew that being stuck on the roof with your sibling could be this nice?
