Chapter 4

THIRD PERSON POV (LARISSA. ANY CONFUSION WILL BE EXPLAINED LATER.)

"Quidditch?" Amelia demanded, staring at the notice in the common room. "What the bloody hell is Quidditch?'

Larissa sighed. "You'll find out. You remember how Terence Higgs is a Seeker and Adrian is a-"

"Oh, that's what that sport is called!' Amelia cut her off as she collapsed in a comfy chair. "I always thought it was called Quiddlebi-"

"Amy!" Larissa interrupted her friend before she could utter Unspeakables. "Seriously, you have a problem!"

Amelia leaned back in her chair, watching her friend with amused eyes. "So, which one is cuter?"

Larissa stared at her friend. "Um... what?"

"Which one is cuter?" Amelia repeated. "Fred or George?"

"Shut up." Larissa responded. "Honestly, you're so boy-obsessed."

"Oh please, I know you too well." Amelia chuckled. "You've probably already gotten yourself committed to a crush."

Larissa blushed. "Fine." She muttered, giving in to her friend. "I personally think they're both cute. You want to know why? They're identical twins."

"Talking about anything interesting?" Draco swooped in behind them, for once not trailing Crabbe and Goyle with him.

"Girl stuff." Larissa clarified. "Nothing of interest."

"Cute boys." Amelia shrugged.

Larissa glared daggers at her. "Amy!" She scolded.

"What?" Amelia demanded, a confused expression on her face. "Everybody goes through liking phases. Why should we keep our feelings from each other?"

"Does she have a filter?" Draco asked Larissa.

"No, but she does have two fists." Amelia threatened.

"What do you want, Draco?" Larissa sighed.

"I want your little friend to leave." Draco told Larissa.

"Anything you tell Larissa you tell me too, because I'm going to hear it from her eventually anyways." Amelia informed the white-haired boy.

Draco weighed his options before finally sighing. "You should stay away from the blood traitors."

Amelia and Larissa gave him confused looks.

"I mean the Weasleys." Draco pressed. "They're blood traitors, you shouldn't associate with them for your own good, they're just plain filthy. And then there's Hermione Granger, who's a Mudblood."

"Mudblood?" Amelia echoed.

"You know, muggle-born. Then Harry Potter, he's a stuck-up selfish bloke, not to mention he's only a halfblood. Don't associate with him either. Anyways, I believe that's everyone that you should keep away from."

"And why?" Larissa demanded, crossing her arms.

Draco looked surprised. "It's for your own good, you know!"

"Whatever." Amelia huffed "Where are your bodyguards?"

Draco took the hint and retreated up to the boy's dormitory.

"We can't tell him that I'm a muggle-born." Amelia hissed the moment Draco was definitely gone.

"Totally." Larissa agreed.

Amelia seemed to tense up. Then, in one swift movement, she stood up, grabbed a hand behind her chair, and flipped him over.

"Gods!" The blonde-haired boy known as Terence rubbed his back as he stood up. "Thanks a lot."

"Come out, Adrian." Larissa ordered, and the grinning boy entered from behind Larissa's own chair.

"You alright, Terence?" Adrian inquired.

"Perfectly fine." Was the boy's strained reply. ''Just got judo-flipped over a chair, it's no big deal."

"I didn't know you were a muggle-born." Terence said, interested. "I'm a halfblood."

"Oh." Amelia blinked. "How do you live here? Everybody seems to be pretty prejudiced."

"It all depends on how you look at it." Terence reasoned. "When the school was founded, Salazar Slytherin, for whom this house is named, was suspicious. It was founded in the time that witches and wizards were being persecuted, so he had every right to be, of course. This led to the four founders (Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Godric Gryffindor, and Salazar Slytherin) getting into a whole dispute about it. To keep the peace, Slytherin left, but he left his legacy behind in the House that he founded."

"You know, you make it found a lot more interesting than Professor Binns does." Amelia commented. "Even I fell asleep in that class, and I'm a light sleeper."

"You were one of the first ones to fall asleep." Larissa pointed out.

"Thanks you for letting me borrow your notes." Amelia said empathetically.

**

Once Terence discovered that not only was Amelia a muggle-born, she also had no concept of many magical normalities, he took it upon himself to educate her. He invited her over to a desk by the fire, where he sketched out and explained all of the rules of Quidditch, including the 700 fouls.

Larissa confronted Adrian. "We have our first flying lesson next Thursday." Larissa informed him.

"Are you nervous?" He asked.

"Quite."

"You shouldn't be." He assured her. "Haven't you ever flown before?"

"On my dad's broomstick." Larissa confessed. "When I was really young I'd zoom around the house on a toy brand that was really popular. I don't remember it, of course, but Mum and Dad have pictures and memories to prove it."

Adrian glanced over at Amelia and Terence, who seemed to be on foul number thirty. "He seems to be talking really fast." He noted. "How could she understand it?"

"Her brain moves at the speed of light." Larissa told him. "The faster something goes by her, the easier she retains it."

"She'll be a good Auror, then." Adrian said seriously.

Larissa laughed. "A sassy one, too. I can see her walking up to the Minister and informing him of everything he's doing wrong... and how to fix it!"

Even though Terence held Amelia captive, she was still tired after the end of her first week at Hogwarts - and indeed, at any school at all. Still, Terence had gotten all the way to foul 503 before Amelia fell fast asleep on the desk.

The four decided it was time to call a goodnight.

--

The next day was Saturday - or, as Amelia called it, "the morning where we don't have to get up so bloody early". Being homeschooled all of her life, she was a firm believer in not waking up before nine o clock.

Therefore, when Larissa woke up her friend at 8:58:34, said friend threw a fit that lasted exactly 2 minutes.

"Nine o clock!" Amelia yelled, waking up the other girls in the dorm and probably all of the people nearby. "You couldn't wait for two more bloody minutes to shake me out of bed, could you? I wasn't even going to go to breakfast! I packed some food from yesterday!"

"It's a good thing you weren't planning on going to breakfast, it's half over anyways, I've just come back from it!" Larissa told her friend. "We have to study for your date with Terence his afternoon!"

Amelia fell out of her bed. "What freaking date with Terence?" She questioned, rubbing her head. "I'm eleven, I don't date!" She paused. "I don't even like him!"

"Well, that's good."Alice Avery commented, brushing her hair and using the window as a mirror. "Because Terence is mine."

Amelia turned, her eyes wide. "Excuse me?"

"The Higgs are neighbors to my cousins in Hufflepuff." Avery said condescendingly. "So we already know each other. Terence and I have practically been married since I was five, so..." she leaned in close to Amelia. "Back off before you get hurt."

Larissa backed away from the pair. "Amelia." She cautioned. "Stay reasonable."

"There's no rhyme or reason." Amelia protested. "Terence isn't an object!"

"Nope." Avery agreed. "He's my boyfriend. Go - away. Off."

Amelia landed a punch to Avery's stomach, and the girl immediately hunched over. "I don't like him and probably never will." Amelia growled. "But Terence is his own geeky self." Amelia took long strides to the bathroom and didn't come back out.

Larissa stood awkwardly in the dorm for a bit before leaving, figuring that Avery could help herself.

Once she was put on the courtyard, breathing in the autumn air, Larissa felt much better. Spotting a familiar face, she sat down next to three girls and a boy on the grass near the lake.

"What are your names?" Larissa probed. "I'm Larissa Hamilton, from Slytherin."

"Charlotte." Charlotte said. "Charlotte Longbottom."

"Emma Wespurt."

"Lilah Pomfrey."

"Neville Longbottom."

"We're cousins." Charlotte explained. "Neville and I. I'm a Hufflepuff, he's a Gryffindor. Lil's a Hufflepuff, too... Emma's the only Ravenclaw."

The five of them engaged in various small talk, soon finding that they had a lot in common.

"I've been thinking." Larissa commented randomly. "What if we started a club? You know, like how in normal schools there's, like, the science club and the geeky club and the antisocial club and stuff like that."

"What club would we be?" Emma asked.

Larissa pondered it. "How about the Undercover club? Or the Private society? Or the Abbey group?"

"Those are all terrible names." Amelia informed her friend, coming up behind her. Trailing behind her were Adrian and Terence.

"I'm sorry again about Avery." Terence apologized to Larissa and Amelia. "She's changed over the years, and we're not really friends anymore."

"Avery is the one who should apologize." Larissa told her friend as they sat next to her. "Guys, introduce yourselves."

Introductions were made.

"So how exactly do you want to name our club?" Emma pressed.

"The Official Society of Hogwarts?" Lilah suggested.

"The Adventurers." Amelia suggested.

"How about The People's Society?" Neville proposed.

"The Official Society of Hogwarts." Charlotte echoed. "I think that sounds cool."

"What about the Epic Duelers?" Amelia suggested.

"I like the sound of that." Adrian told her.

"We'll be a private group?" Lilah asked.

"Would you mind if I invited my friend Florence?" Emma asked.

"Florence and I were in a boat together!" Larissa exclaimed. "That would be brilliant."

"The Official Epic Dueling People's Society of Hogwarts." Terence suggested. "O-E-D-P-S-H."

Amelia was speechless.

"The Official Epic Duel..." Lilah shook her head. "I've forgotten it already."

"No need to repeat it." Larissa assured him.

"Ack." Amelia grunted.

"The Epic Dueling Society." Adrian decided. "All in favor?"

Four hands went up.

"Official Society of Hogwarts?"

Three hands went up.

"Who didn't vote?" Amelia demanded.

Neville raised his hand. "You four are Slytherins." He pointed out. "We just met you. How do we trust you?"

"Honestly Neville, they're not Malfoy." Emma rolled her eyes.

Larissa knit her eyebrows. "What do you mean?"

"He, Crabbe, and Goyle are huge bullies." Charlotte informed her. "They're giving Slytherin even more of a bad name than it already has."

"Slytherin has a bad name?" Amelia asked.

"She's a muggle-born." Terence explained.

"Thank you, Mr. Higgs." Amelia rolled her eyes.

"Lots of Dark wizards come out of Slytherin, though not all of them." Emma explained. "It's... just naturally labeled as a bad place."

"I knew they were gits." Amelia muttered. "I just didn't know why."

"Slytherin is awesome!" Adrian protested. "We have parties on the weekends, and are all really close!"

"I've only ever talked to you three and Malfoy in Slytherin, though." Larissa pointed out suddenly.

"We have our groups." Adrian admitted. "But we're not all bad."

"Fine, then." Neville amended. "But Malfoy doesn't like me."

"I can be friends with whoever I want." Amelia said vehemently. "If Draco doesn't like it, he can have a punch to the face."

Looking slightly unsettled, Lilah protested. "Fighting isn't the best answer to every problem, Amelia. Sometimes you just have to... you know... talk it out and stuff."

"My fists do as good a job as my words." Was Amelia's unshaken reply.
