Chapter thirteen
~Sang's POV~
A dog! Her cat practically screeched in outrage inside her mind.
He likes dogs, Sang thought.
A smelly, ball-licking canine from hell! Inside my territory! The feline roared madly.
Sang blushed at the choice of words from her inner cat.
"Something wrong, Cupcake?" Luke's voice reached her before she noticed his presence close to her side.
Her attention had been focused on the hellhound trotting beside her. Hellhounds were dangerous creatures, guardians of powerful objects and followers of the devil himself.
She didn't know what the pup wanted with her family, but she was sure he had been searching for her when he found Kota.
Before she could answer to Luke's question his gaze lowered and met that of the pup.
"Oh, my God!" he exclaimed happily and the pup winced. "A puppy!"
Whether it was from Luke's exuberance or from the mention of the word "God" Sang wasn't sure.
"That is a hellhound, Luke." Sang told him quietly.
Luke's eyes widened before a smile stretched his lips. "Cool!"
Sang watched shocked as Luke practically threw himself at the creature and they both began to roll in the ground, the dog barking enthusiastically while Luke growled playfully.
The last time Sang had seen one of the hounds from hell the creature had been an adult, of the size of a small house, with gigantic canines and a temper to match.
She kept her gaze on the dog as it played with Luke.
"Princess?" Victor had come through the front door and watched the dog warily, the others right at his heels.
"It's going to be okay, Victor. He knows better than to mess with me." She told him.
And it was the pure truth.
"Luke, get up from the floor." Kota commanded.
Luke jumped up like a well-trained dog and his eyes went to Kota for further direction while he kept an easy-going smile on his face.
"I will take care of the dog, Kota." She said, her gaze meeting his for a moment before going back to the dog.
He nodded, "Let's gather in the kitchen, there are a few things we need to discuss." Kota said, looking at Nathan and Luke only.
She understood he only meant to speak with the two boys and snapped her fingers at the dog as she turned around and went straight to the music room, the pup following at her heels.
The sound of footsteps followed after them and she recognized the sound as coming from Victor.
Entering the music room, she glanced briefly at the piano, longing filling her chest at the sight, but she knew that she didn't have the time.
Walking to a small window seat she sat down and focused at the dog that had sat right before her, its tail waggling happily as a canine smile graced its face.
She found herself smiling at the happy creature even while her cat hissed and scratched against the barriers in her mind, begging to be let out so it could chase the dog away.
She held firm and turned to the dog, "What do you seek from me, hound?" she asked quietly, sensing when Victor entered the room, the scent of moss and berries surrounding her as he approached and sat at the piano.
The pup stared up at her for a moment, its gaze probing and curious.
"Did your master send you?" she asked.
The pup only shook its head.
That was interesting, but also worrisome.
Her muscles tightened in alarm.
What was he doing alone in the park? And why did he seek her?
She didn't know.
Victor began to play the piano and her attention was caught.
Winter, Vivaldi, she thought and felt herself relaxing.
A probe in her mind alerted her that the other four had sensed her momentary distress.
She sent a wave of reassurance to them and they settled down grudgingly, knowing that there was something bothering her that she wouldn't share with them quite yet.
The pup lay down on the floor with a contented sigh and went to sleep while Victor played the piano and she listened quietly, eyes closed while she enjoyed the music.
Song after song, Sang merely sat listening until a different melody made her open her eyes.
Victor had played songs familiar to her, from her time, until then. But now he played one that Sang had never heard before.
This song... it was very different from what she was used to.
"What is that?" she asked quietly.
He smiled at her, "It's a rock song, one of North's favorites. The band that made this song doesn't use a piano to play it but I've learned how to make it work. The name is thunderstruck, from ACDC."
Her eyebrows rose as the song progressed. "That is interesting. Will you play more new music for me?" she'd always loved music and now there was a lot she could learn about it.
They spent a good two hours in the music room, Victor trying to play more modern songs on his piano, while Sang listened and observed.
A knock at the door made the two jump up, startled.
"Dinner is ready." North said from the doorway, his gaze focused on the form of the dog that was still lying at Sang's feet, a typical scowl on his face.
"What is it?" Victor asked as he stood from the piano.
North smiled "Vegetable soufflé, broccoli risotto and grilled chicken."
Victor grimaced and Sang giggled quietly.
North's eyes turned to hers, dark and hooded. "You need to feed as well." He said, his voice sounding even deeper than usual.
Victor glanced at her curiously and she raised an eyebrow at North.
"I assure you, North, I know what I need and don't." she told him flippantly.
His scowl darkened, his gaze knowing and she grimaced.
There was no denying her hunger, it was like a wild beast clawing at her belly.
"You already gave blood. I can't take anymore from you." she told him defensively.
"You could take from me." Victor offered easily.
North frowned at him but nodded, clearly more interested in her being fed than by who.
Sang pursed her lips and nodded, walking in Victor's direction.
He smiled at her, but his eyes had dimmed, the fire in them becoming a low simmer that betrayed his nervousness.
When she stood about a foot of distance from him he offered her his wrist.
North was leaning against the door jamb and she felt a blush staining her cheeks as she brought Victor's wrist to her lips and kissed the skin there.
His heart beat strongly in his chest and she could smell his scent stronger now that they were so close.
Her cat urged her to close the distance between them and bit at his neck instead of his wrist, but she resisted, feeling that doing so would cross a line that she wasn't ready to cross.
Licking lightly at his wrist she tasted the salt of his skin before she savored the sweetness of his blood.
He'd sucked in a startled breath when her fangs broke his skin, but now he stood still, his heated gaze burning her to her core.
She took just what she needed and released him, taking a quick step back, feeling suddenly off balance.
His blood was strong, and while it wasn't enough to completely assuage her hunger it would keep her going for the rest of the day.
North still scowled at her and she suspected he knew she wasn't feeding enough, but as he remained in silence she relaxed and began in the direction of the door.
Throwing a shy smile at Victor, who still stood where she'd left him, looking a bit stunned, she said, "Thank you, Victor."
~Victor's POV~
My arm was tingling.
I could feel it from the point where she'd bitten me all the way up to my biceps and I knew what was coming.
More than half of us were displaying tattoos already, Kota being the only one of those who hadn't actually offered his blood to Sang yet.
The memory of her soft lips against my skin made a flush rise on my cheeks.
I had been so surprised with how good her touch had felt, especially as it had just been my wrist that she'd touched, but still it had made my heart speed up and caused warmth to unfurl inside me.
"She is not eating nearly enough." North growled.
I glanced up at him to see his frown directed the way which Sang had taken.
"What do you mean?" I asked him, feeling the stirring of worry in my heart.
"I mean she isn't taking enough blood from us. I can feel what she feels sometimes and it is an almost constant hunger, gnawing at her stomach."
I frowned. That wasn't good, not at all.
"Maybe we should talk with the others." I suggested.
He nodded in agreement.
Then something else occurred to me, "You said that you could feel what she felt?"
He cringed a little at that.
I raised my eyebrows and crossed my arms in front of my chest, just waiting.
North tried to avoid my gaze but soon enough his eyes lifted to meet mine and he admitted. "After the bite a bond seems to form between her and us allowing us to feel each other feelings. Among other things." he mumbled the last part but I heard him fine.
I was left stunned and trying to process this new information when North turned around and gestured to the door. "Let's go before Luke throws the food away and makes chocolate chip pancakes."
And I followed after him quietly, still thinking.
~Phil's POV~
I left the building in a hurry, the door banging closed behind me.
Rage burned in my veins and I felt the loss of control over my wolf, something I hadn't felt in a long time.
Rushing into the woods I took off my clothes and changed into my beast.
The wolf took off, running through the woods, jumping over fallen logs and trunks.
Miss Sang had been right. Those vampires had lied to us.
All these years and the academy had always been led to believe that the vampires didn't have an organized community, that they lived separately without laws or someone responsible to keep them.
Through the years the Academy had paid an exorbitant amount of money to known vampires in order to have any problematic rogue hunted, but none of that had been necessary because all the vampires had a Senate who handled that sort of problem.
Except it seemed they weren't doing their job.
The one thing our agents hadn't been able to find out was the identity of their leader and that was what we needed to solve this problem.
A growl left my throat and the small animals around me scurried away.
I needed to calm myself, and then I needed to pay another visit to the little vampiress.
~Gabe's POV~
After dinner was finished my brothers went to the living room to watch a movie along with Sang who really needed to learn a little more about our world.
Luke and I were left in charge of clean up and so I stood before the sink washing the dishes while he dried them with a towel.
"So, we have a hellhound in the family now, did Kota mention what we are going to call him?" Luke asked, sounding cheerful.
I wasn't so happy about our new member, that freaking beast looked damn scary and it kept glaring at me accusingly.
But I also trusted that Trouble could keep it contained.
"The hell if I know." I told him, "Shaggy?"
Luke snorted a laugh, "I don't think he is going to like that."
And he was likely right. I wouldn't be winning any brownie points with that suggestion, but damn! That dog's fur was driving me bonkers!
I grumbled for a bit under my breath as we worked.
Once we were done Luke and I began the redecoration of Mr. Blackbourne's kitchen.
The guys had already changed the heavy furniture that afternoon which meant that Mr. B now was the proud owner of a kitchen made in dark grey wood and stainless steel.
There were a few splashes of colors such as the sky-blue stools around the island, the soft-green curtains, the purple kettle, and the colorful jars of spices that he preferred.
His plates had also been updated from the damned, boring, white ceramic kind to a stylish, sort-of Japanese style in a dark blue color.
Luke and I were now putting up the photos and paintings on the opposite wall.
I was humming under my breath and wondering if Mr. B would really like the watercolor I had made for him of a violin or if I should hide it back in my room and find something else to put on his wall when that damned dog came running into the kitchen like a bat out of hell almost knocking me over.
"Mother fucking shit!" I exclaimed after the animal had gone past me, whining.
"Watch out!" Luke shouted and I felt another furry figure run through my legs while hissing madly.
I gaped while watching Sang's cat chase the hellhound around the kitchen like a damn lion would chase small prey; except the dog was about twice the size of the small cat.
Nate came rushing into the kitchen and grabbed cat-Sang before she could tear the dog to bits, holding her away from his body as she was still hissing and scratching like a possessed creature.
"Hey, hey! Stop that or you are sleeping in the garage!" Nathan told her in a scolding tone of voice.
Luke and I couldn't help but laugh, if he only knew who that cat was he wouldn't be saying that.
"Is that so, Mr. Griffing?" Mr. B's voice sounded from the doorway, tone gone completely glacial from so cold and hard.
I felt my eyes widen and saw my brothers having the same reaction. Nate actually went a bit pale in the face before he began stuttering, "No, just kidding, Mr. Blackbourne." He gave a forced smile before gently lowering Sang to the floor.
The black cat sat at his feet and tipped her head back to look up at him, an amused glint in her eyes as her tail swayed back and forth.
"Ms. Cuddles," Mr. Blackbourne called and not for the first time I had to make an effort to keep my laugh contained.
Luke, beside me, was already shaking in mirth.
Cat-Sang leaped straight into Mr. B's arms and began purring as soon as he started to pet her before going back to the living room.
"Man," Nate sighed "That was a close one. I can't understand why Mr. Blackbourne likes that cat so much."
"Don't worry, bro." Luke said, a smirk on his face, "You will like her too."
AN: I am so sorry for taking so long to update. My computer finally decided that he was too old to work for me and retired. Sadly, he took all my archives with him when he went down and I had to rewrite the chapter I had ready for last week *cries*.
I will try to write something more for tomorrow as well, but it might be shorter than usual.
Thank you for all your support! :D
