Chapter four
~Kota's POV~
Kota parked his car in front of Nate's house and waited until his friend got inside and put on the seat-belt.
While they drove out of Sunnyvale Court Nathan kept his silence, the radio in the car playing a rock song while the boys were lost in thought.
"What do you think is this about?" Nathan finally asked. They had both received a text from Mr. Blackbourne with an address on the outskirts of town and the clear message to get there immediately.
Kota checked the speedometer once more; he was driving the fastest he could without breaking any laws, taking shortcuts and side roads to arrive quickly at their destination.
"I have no idea." He finally admitted. And that bothered him deeply for as head of the family it was his main job to know.
He always knew where his brothers were and who they were with, making sure everyone was safe and doing what they were supposed to be doing.
A bit controlling, perhaps, but that was the Academy's way of life. Overkill was their modus operandi.
They soon arrived at the designated address. Stepping out of the car both boys saw that they were the first ones on the scene, as there was no sign of North's black jeep, or Victor's and Mr. B's BMW.
"I guess we were the first to arrive, but shouldn't Luke and Gabe be here somewhere?" Nathan asked as Kota circled the car to lean against it on the sidewalk.
Kota pulled his cellphone out of his pocket and began texting. "They should. Mr. B said to meet them here at this house."
Nathan looked up at the house in question. It was a mansion, four stories high with a stone tower, looking like something out of a horror story. The windows were sealed with boards, the front yard was unkempt and there was no car in sight. The place was obviously abandoned.
Kota's phone pinged, signaling the arrival of a message. Nathan leaned against his friends shoulder to read the text.
Luke: We are in the tower. Come in through the back door and head for the pantry.
"What are they up to, now?" Nate murmured.
"I don't know." Kota answered. "This is supposed to be their day off. This isn't Academy business."
They both moved to the back of the house and stepped through the back door, Kota using the flashlight from his cellphone to light the way.
Nate whistled. "Wow. And I thought this place was scary from outside."
Kota ran his fingers through his hair. "It's not scary, just abandoned." He murmured fixing his glasses on his nose.
Nate smirked. "Yeah. That is why you are fidgeting."
"I am not fidgeting." He retorted sending a warning glare at his best friend.
Nate just snorted in response, choosing to keep his silence.
They found the pantry and the staircase that led up to the top of the tower.
Arriving at the top they found a wooden door with strange, tricolor drawings on its pane.
"How do we open this thing? Oy, Luke!" Nathan shouted from behind Kota.
"I think we just push it open." Kota said as he stretched his hand and laid it against the door.
Suddenly the door lit up with green light and the boys watched in open-mouthed wonder as the drawings they'd ignored before began to change right before their eyes.
"Holly shit..." Nate mumbled.
Where before there were blue-colored vines with pink and orange-colored flowers in heart-shape, there now were also leaves in a hunter green color.
The door fell open with a bang against the wall and three startled pairs of eyes met with the boys.
"What the...?" Nathan began to ask before stopping, not knowing how to complete the sentence.
"Oy! There is no need to bang the fucking door assholes! Do you want to kill us from a heart attack?" Gabriel shouted from where he stood beside a bed with Luke and a little girl sitting on it.
Kota fixed his glasses again, eyes locked on the strange girl. "Language, Gabe." He murmured as he studied her.
She was really beautiful, he thought, with golden-blonde hair, fair skin and green eyes. His favorite color.
And his brothers had clearly gotten their eyes on her; he saw how close they were both standing to her, their postures protective, possessive even.
He already had no chance, he knew.
"What is up with the dress and the strange room?" Nathan asked confusedly. "And what was that with the door? Are we testing some new technology for the Academy again?"
"Shut up, you idiot!" Gabriel grumbled as he moved to sit behind the girl in the bed, the comb in his hands making his intentions clear.
"Guys! This is Cupcake." Luke suddenly introduced, jumping up from the bed with a devilish smile on his face. "Cupcake, these are Brain and Pinky."
Nate snorted and murmured something about banning all chocolate from his house, but Kota was still staring fixedly at the girl who now had a confused expression on her face.
She raised a finger to her lips and glanced from the newcomers to Luke and back before asking, "Who?"
Nathan stepped into the room and approached the girl, sitting beside her in the bed "Ignore that idiot. I am Nathan, and that over there is Kota." He gave her his best smile and Kota huffed, knowing that between his three friends she wasn't likely to remember that he was in the room.
He moved to the bookshelf and began to read the titles, his eyebrows rising in surprise at what he found while he listened to the conversation going on in the room.
"Nice to meet you guys, I'm Sang." She said quietly, her voice low and rough.
"Well, it's nice to meet you too, Sang." Nathan answered before he turned to Luke and asked, "Do you know why we were all called over here?"
"Yeah." He answered glancing over at Gabe who was distracted with combing Sang's hair. "It was us who called Mr. B. But we think it is best to wait for everyone to arrive first. We can discuss this business when the whole team is here."
Looking over at them from over his shoulder, Kota noticed that the girl still seemed confused with what was going on, but she didn't ask any question or demand explanations from them.
She also didn't protest when Gabe took over her hair or when Nate sat so close beside her.
She was pretty trusting and compliant, both of which were worrying. She seemed to be a little naïve.
He felt his protective instincts rising at the thought of anyone taking advantage of her.
Her style of clothing was also very strange. Old world. Was she dressing for a costume party? But they were in July; it would take some time for Halloween yet.
"All done, Trouble." Gabriel said, patting her back.
She stood up from the bed and walked straight to the closest window, pushing it open so the sunlight could come inside.
It was only then that Kota noticed that the room had been illuminated by candles and that there was no sign of there being electricity in the tower.
Sang leaned out the window and looked around her with fascination.
Kota stepped behind her to see what she was looking at.
Nothing too interesting, all they could see were a few roofs from the homes in the neighborhood, lots of trees, some cars on the street and a mall in the distance.
Glancing down to the street he saw North's jeep had arrived and the dark clad boy stepped out from it, shading his eyes with a hand before he glanced up at the tower.
Kota raised a hand in greeting and North gave a brief finger wave before heading to the back of the house.
The text Kota had sent Luke earlier had been on their family's group which meant they had all seen the messages.
"Sang." Kota called for the girl's attention, giving her a reassuring smile when she glanced up at him. "Our friend, North, is the one coming up now. He looks a little scary, but you don't need to worry about anything. He is just a gruff teddy-bear, okay?"
Her eyes had widened a little and she looked both concerned and amused but she nodded quietly at his words and moved to sit with Gabriel and Nathan again.
Luke had gone downstairs to meet with his brother and Kota could hear the sounds of things falling and raised voices as the boys came upstairs.
"Don't you fucking scare me like that ever again you bloody idiot!" North was grumbling while Luke laughed hysterically.
Kota just shook his head and let out a long-suffering sigh.
~Sang's POV~
I watched quietly from my place between Gabriel and Nathan as more and more handsome boys arrived at my tower.
Luke had explained that he and Gabriel had called their friends when they found me and that those friends were like family to them.
He forgot to mention that they were all stunning.
What left me so confused, however, was the way my inner feline was reacting to them.
The Cat, that is really a part of me even if sometimes it seemed to have a separate conscience, kept roaring the word "mine" inside my head time and again until I acknowledge it with a silent agreement.
Only then it had settled a little, thought I still felt its focused attention on the boys and its smug satisfaction at my yielding.
The last boy to arrive was tall with broad shoulders and muscled arms that spoke of hard work. His dark clothing and scowl made him look a little intimidating.
I almost felt a little glad to Marie now, because I was not sure I would have met these boys without her interference and they seemed pretty interesting.
I already knew at least two wanted to be my friends, something I missed having.
North, that was the boy's name, didn't speak a lot, answering to the other boys with grunts or through a loaded glance.
Every time his dark gaze turned to me, however, I felt butterflies take flight in my stomach and my mouth go dry.
I didn't know if I was nervous or attracted to him, but the amount of emotions he evoked from me was more than any man had before.
Except for his friends.
Kota was once again studying my books on the shelf and I could practically feel his desire to take one down and read it. It was palpable in the still air of the room.
"Go on." I said to him, my voice quiet and still a little gruff.
All the boys turned to me as if I had shouted.
I knew, from being superficially attuned to Gabriel's and Luke's thoughts that they were hyper-aware of me, taking notice of my every breath.
I suspected it was an instinct that warned them to be wary of a predator on their midst.
Kota blinked slowly at me when he saw it was him I was talking to.
"Excuse me?" he asked blushing lightly.
"I can see you are interested in them. Go on. Those books are mine, you can read them if you want." I answered.
He seemed surprised for a moment, thought I couldn't begin to guess why, and then he smiled sweetly at me and murmured a "thank you" before taking one of the books and sitting at my desk's chair with it.
The book he'd chosen was about an old study made on the constellations. It was already old in my time so I supposed it was ancient for them.
I noticed North moving to stand behind Kota, looking at the book over his friend's shoulder, and was a little surprised at his interest.
They seemed like night and day those boys, it was strange seeing they all together like this.
Of course, when I tuned in to Gabriel's and Luke's thoughts I could see that they also had a lot in common, such as their courage, honesty and compassion.
They were united by their hearts, not their personalities.
The sound of another set of boys arriving at the house drew my attention away from the boys already in my room.
I looked at the room's entrance and waited.
From the corner of my eye I could see that the boys had seen my movement and were staring at door like me too, curious about what had caught my attention.
Soon the sounds of footsteps and voices got louder, loud enough that they could be heard by the humans in the room, and the boys relaxed.
The first boy to walk through the door had wavy brown hair; slim built and brown eyes.
But his eyes weren't a dark brown, like chocolate, or another boring shade of brown. His eyes had golden freckles that caught the light and shone like an inner fire.
And they burned right through me as he entered the room, perusing me from head to toe before they snapped back to my eyes and he smiled.
Behind him entered a giant, with tanned skin, brown hair and brown, soul-full eyes.
I didn't understand why, but characteristics like "boring brown" suddenly turned into "soul-full" when associated with these boys in my mind.
I must be going crazy.
Or my cat was as she started with her roaring again.
I was going to get a headache if she acted like that with every handsome boy that we met.
Really, the creature was acting like a spoilt beast. Next thing it would be stomping its big pawn and pouting while demanding "mine" again and again.
As is was, there were already seven "claimed" boys in the room, if it reached the number ten I would declare the whole thing null and just ignore its silly demands.
In my mind's eye I could see the suspiciously smug smile on the cat's face.
"Hello, Princess." Fire eyes said, drawing my attention back from my inner ranting. He was standing just in front of me, his hand extended for a handshake. "My name is Victor Morgan, at your service."
I reached for his hand and shook it, "It is a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Morgan. I am Sang Sorenson."
He smiled at me again, "Just Victor, please. Somedays I can't stand my own surname." He added almost bitterly and I frowned in thought.
"As you wish." I said to him, earning another smile and blushing cheeks.
The giant who was still standing by the door chuckled, his laugh rippling through me causing a shiver of pleasure to run up my spine. "I wouldn't say that amid this bunch, Aggele mou. They might take your word for it."
The others scowled at him in outrage and North opened his mouth to speak for the first time. (AN: conversation ahead is in greek. I am too lazy to use google translator :P) "Shut up, you idiot! You are going to scare her!"
It sounded familiar, the language they were speaking in, but I couldn't fully remember at the moment, catching only a few words here and there.
"She doesn't look scared to me, brother." The giant answered.
"She must be, she is tiny and we look like thugs." North grumbled.
"What is wrong?" I asked the room at large.
Gabriel grunted beside me, "Nothing, Trouble. They are just talking about how sexy I am." He said with a smirk aimed at me making me blush.
"Uh." I struggled over what words to say to that. He is sexy, should I just agree with him? Was that appropriated? Thankfully I was saved from answering by North.
"Like hell we are." He grumbled, his loud voice rumbling through the room and causing me to flinch.
I knew I could defend myself against him if necessary, but he was intimidating.
"What North means to say," the giant began explaining before he sent a quick glare at his friend, "Was that we were worried that you were scared of us."
With that all the boys turned their eyes back to me and I raised my finger to my lips in nervousness, not used to being the center of attention like this.
Luke and Gabriel had looked disbelieving at first but when they saw how nervous I was their eyes softened in understanding.
"Oy, motherfuckers! Look elsewhere, there is nothing to see here!" he shouted at his friends as he looped an arm around my shoulder and pulled at me until I had my flaming face buried at his neck, hidden from the others.
From the sounds of movement and the shift in the air around me I assumed the boys were doing as he demanded.
Suddenly the scent of ocean reached my nose and I reluctantly removed myself from my hiding place in Gabriel's arms.
Looking up I met with a pair of soul-full eyes looking at me softly.
"Hello, Aggele. My name is Silas Korba." He rumbled at me, his accented voice soft and sweet. "Can I get a hug?" he asked opening large arms to show a muscled and wide chest.
Big enough for a girl to hide at.
I glanced over at Gabriel who nodded at me encouragingly and helped me stand up.
I rose in wobbly legs, still a little shaky, and practically stumbled over to Silas' arms.
He closed his arms around me, picking me up from the floor and cradling me against his warm chest.
The cat in my head purred in contentment and I closed my eyes in pleasure as I laid my head on his shoulder.
This was surprisingly wonderful. I had never felt so warm and safe before.
My very developed senses could hear his heart pumping and the sound was as soothing as the feel of his warmth spreading against my cold body.
One of his arms was under my butt, supporting my weight; the other was around my back and his hand was running up and down my spine causing me to relax further against him.
Right then I remembered what Aggele mou meant. It meant "My Angel" in Greek.
If I was this boy's angel then he was my safe heaven.
From my place on Silas arms I heard another three people entering the house.
Two young men and one old wolf.
My senses immediately came alert and I stiffened in Silas's arms, lifting my head to stare at the door.
"Something wrong, Aggele?" He asked me.
I ignored his question, my eyes searching for Luke in the room and asked him, "Who else are we waiting for?"
He looked up at me from his "cellphone", whatever that was. "Mr. Blackbourne and Dr. Green, the oldest in our family, and Dr. Roberts who is a... friend of the family." He answered.
A friend of theirs?
I could feel a sense of trust emanating from both Luke and Gabriel at the mention of the old wolf's name, which made me relax a little, but still I didn't like his presence at my home when I felt so weakened and vulnerable.
Besides, that more feline side of my personality was hissing and scratching like mad at the possibility of a dog entering its territory.
I pushed my feral instincts down and reluctantly moved out of Silas hug, walking over to my bedroom's door to await our visitors.
The boys behind me had gone quiet and I could imagine their shared glances, trying to figure out why I was reacting the way I was.
I had saw how they could communicate with each other with a single glance and felt jealousy rise in me every time.
I wanted to be as close to someone as they were to each other.
I wanted to be as close to them all, even the quiet and scary North Taylor.
The Old Wolf was the first to round the bent in the stairs, his yellow eyes going straight to mine, full of knowledge and command.
For a couple of minutes we stood completely immobile, staring each other down in a show of dominance, neither backing down.
After a few seconds he lowered his gaze, acknowledging my superior position in my own home even thought he was clearly an alpha wolf.
He went up a few more steps allowing the other two to come into view as well before his eyes met mine again, this time their human-like blue color.
His eyes were kind ones, full of laugher and life, but I had no doubts the man before me could become a monster if necessary.
"Well, hello there, little bird. I am Doctor Phillip Roberts." He said with a kind smile.
I smiled back at him, with just a small hint of fang for good measure, and curtsied while answering, "Good evening, kind sir. It is very nice to meet you, I am Sang Sorenson." The meeting had me tensing and I accidentally let out a little of my old accent.
His eyes were intently studying me, eyebrows raised in surprise. I could feel no ill intent from him and I knew he felt no such a thing from me either, but none of us would relax so easily.
I took a few steps back into my room, allowing him entrance while keeping my back to the wall.
The boys in the room watched in fascinated silence while the other two entered slowly, almost warily.
The old wolf moved to my desk's chair and sat down once Kota had stood up for him. "Thank you, Kota. I am afraid that I am too old to be walking up such a long flight of stairs." He said with a self-depreciating smile.
With difficulty I removed my eyes from him, knowing that he couldn't possibly attack me now that he was sitting, and looked for the last boys to enter my domain.
The first one to catch my sight had sandy blond hair looking a little disheveled, fair skin and beautiful, green eyes.
He watched me with half fascination, half fear. He obviously knew what I was and his reaction to me was making the other boys at the room stiffen to attention.
With the exception of Gabriel and Luke who moved across the room to stand closer to me. I could feel a sense of protectiveness and caring rolling off from them even thought I wasn't trying to pry.
Unsurprisingly, my cat claimed the newbie too. If the creature claimed two more boys I would consider it completely crazy and put it on a leash.
Turning my attention to the last occupant of the room I felt my breath catch in my lungs.
He was dressed in a grey suit, which was slightly familiar to me even though his looked a little different from the ones of my time, his brown hair was combed back, styled perfectly and his face was a mask of calmness.
The fast beat of his heart betrayed him, however and I knew that behind the blank expression and the steel-like grey eyes was just a man.
A man who stepped in my direction, subtly putting himself between his family and my person as he reached for my hand, "Hello, Miss Sorenson. I am Owen Blackbourne and my friend is Dr. Sean Green."
I almost smiled at his bravery. He was polite and his manners were very familiar to me, making me relax instantly.
I took his hand and smiled at him, keeping my fangs out of sight this time; for as my cat claimed him I knew that I didn't want to cause this young man any worry or disappointment. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Blackbourne." I said and then let my eyes divert from grey to green ones, "And you too, Dr. Green."
The young doctor gave me a wide smile and stepped closer, beside his friend who stiffened in displeasure, his heart still thudding uncomfortably.
"I could have presented myself, Owen." Dr. Green said, jabbing his elbow playfully against Mr. Blackbourne's side, who just grunted at the contact, before he extended his own hand to me in greeting. "Hi there, Pumpkin! I am Sean Green, the sexiest doctor you will ever see."
I knew my eyes had widened in shock and my cheeks had gone tomato red when the playfulness and mirth became more genuine in Dr. Green's gaze.
I shook his hand with a blush staining my cheeks and my own heart tripping over itself at his boldness.
At the same time, Owen Blackbourne seemed to have calmed down and was now studying me intently while his friend smirked at my reaction to his scandalous behavior.
"Boys, perhaps you can give me and Miss Sorenson here a moment to talk in private?" Dr. Roberts suddenly questioned.
The boys begun to look at each other, trying to form a decision before I spoke up. "There is no need for that, Doctor. I believe they need to be fully aware of the situation at hand."
They were all looking at me again and I shifted uncomfortably at all the attention, causing Gabriel to straighten up and clap his hands loudly, calling for attention.
"Oy! Okay, we are going to stay put and start our meeting. Everyone get comfortable." He ordered immediately.
Surprisingly enough everyone obeyed him, thought I could hear some grumbling and grunting being proffered.
Some of the boys leaned against the walls while Gabriel and Luke sat to each side of me in the bed.
Dr. Roberts was still sitting in the chair and Mr. Blackbourne and Dr. Green stood to his right, Kota to his left.
"Now, then..." Dr. Roberts began, pausing. "Where do we start?" he asked looking at me.
I glanced over at Luke who nodded, "I think we start at the beginning."
AN: Ops... did it end there already? *Shrugs*hummm, I guess so. *laughs evilly* next week we will see how the boys react to Sang ;) See ya!
*Runs off again before the crowds protest*
