Chapter 5 (Part 2)
The girl and her companion stayed frozen, not daring to move, even after the ship had glided out of view.
Their stillness was broken by the sound of a terrible crash. She kicked out from underneath him, and immediately sprinted until the distance between them was more comfortable. She stopped and propped her foot up on a stump, resting one elbow on her knee and struggling to catch her breath. She waited until the unnerving echoes subsided before barking back at him,
"What in the Vexer's name is the matter with you, hermit?"
"I saw the ship coming, from up on the hill," he said as he walked towards her, making her take a step back.
"Yes, and you should have gone back to your cave. It would have been much safer there than out here I am certain."
"Sure," he replied quickly, seeming to brush her off, "But just now, did you notice? I've never seen a ship like that before in my life," he continued, sounding oddly enamored. "It didn't even bear an insignia on it, it must have traveled a very long way..." he trailed off as he absentmindedly strode past her, seeming to forget her presence and travelling towards the sound of the impact. What is wrong with this man? He cannot possibly mean to investigate that huge ship, can he?
"Where are you going?" She said to his back in a demanding tone. His feet shuffled to a halt, as if to ask him the same question. After an uncomfortable period of complete silence, devoid of any sounds of wildlife, he responded,
"I'm going to meet whoever is on that ship." He is going to get himself killed. She shifted her weight awkwardly on her sore legs, waiting for him to continue. However, he only stood motionless, with his back still facing her, and said nothing. Let him do whatever he pleases. I should be getting as far away from here as I can. She waited a few more moments before quickly saying,
"Okay, then. Thank you for your aid. Farewell, hermit."
"It's Keon," he said quietly, seeming to direct his words at no one in particular. It took her a few moments before she understood he meant it was his name.
"Ah... very well then," she replied rigidly. She turned on her heel and the two of them departed silently, each in their separate directions.
