Chapter 10
A/N Just letting you all know that this will probably be the last book in this series since I'm not coming up with ideas for it as easily as I did for the first two books, but I do have one other book that's basically a bunch of short scenes and one shots related to this series. I'm going to continue updating this book right up until the end I'm not going to discontinue it. and I will probably continue the one shots book even after this one is finshed since it mainly contains scenes that I didn't include in these books. I know it's been a while since I updated that's partially due to writers block and the fact that I am also taking a rather difficult college course. anyway enjoy the chapter.
Luke's point of view
It was the day of the battle in Greece, we were all gathered in camp, and the Olympians and minor gods transported us to Greece so we could help in the inevitable battle. We all got into position, most of the Olympians on the front lines, while we were behind them along with some of the minor gods along with our archers. Our primordial allies hadn't arrived yet, but we hoped they would soon or at least before our enemies do.
Even before our enemies arrived I knew this would be an incredibly tough battle, after all, we would probably be facing numerous monsters not to mention the primordials, and possibly even Zeus. We would have to fight our hardest in order to win this war. I couldn't help but wonder if my dad would come back in time to help us. As you might expect I was worried about him despite the fact that I knew about everything he had faced in the past, and I could only hope that he would make it through.
When our enemies arrived I was rather confused by who was leading them, I supposed that the primordials were probably further back closer to the rear of their forces. they would let us wear ourselves out by taking on the rest of their forces, and by the time we reached them we would be more tired and less likely to succeed against them. Leading their forces for them was someone who was clearly a titan but I didn't recognize him, I hadn't seen him in the last war so I had no idea who he was.
It quickly became clear that I wasn't the only one who was confused. many of the other demigods were muttering quietly wondering what in Hades was going on. As some of the people around me spoke I heard who he was. When I heard that though I was rather confused about how he could be here
We found out soon enough when he offered us a chance to surrender. When we refused to surrender the battle began. Our archers shot volley after volley of arrows picking off some of our enemies, but it wasn't long before the battle had fully begun. Athena took on Atlas, obviously, she would have to capture him in order to return him to his punishment and free the mostly peaceful titan who they had forced into holding it.
As we fought I couldn't help but think about everyone I cared about. I knew that I would do everything I could to make sure that I wouldn't lose any of them, the losses from the last war had been hard enough I couldn't stand to lose anyone else. I could only hope that my dad will come back from wherever he was and that my mom wouldn't end up in the same situation. Sure my sisters could be annoying at times but even though they would probably come back if anything happened to them I didn't really want anything to happen to them either. I was also concerned about Taylor and all the friends I had made at camp since the war. Heck, I had even become friends with some of the Camp Jupiter campers since they would sometimes come and visit Camp and vice versa. I could only hope that we would make it out of there okay since I knew that it would be a tough battle.
I had to concentrate on the battle more when a dracna came at me with her spear raised ready to use. I concentrated on fending her off using many of the sword techniques that I had learned during my five years at Camp Half-blood. After dodging or blocking her spear thrusts I eventually found a weakness in her defenses and plunged my sword into her chest causing her to be reduced to a pile of gold dust. I continued to fight the various monsters that came at me.
While I was distracted by the telekhine in front of me an empousa came at me from the side. before I even had the chance to stop her with my powers. I felt her fangs sink into an exposed portion of my shoulder that wasn't protected by my armor. I killed the telekhine before I finally managed to dislodge the empousa. It looked like she was going to make another attempt possibly to find a better spot to bite me where I wouldn't be able to shake her off so easily.
This time though she didn't get the chance since I froze her in place with my time powers before I stabbed her in the chest causing her to disintegrate into a pile of gold dust. Before I killed her I'd noticed that unlike the rest of the empousai I'd seen she wore an old cheerleader uniform. That seemed a bit strange but I was more concerned with the wound she'd left behind. I was pretty sure I hadn't lost too much blood I didn't feel lightheaded or anything but I knew I would have to be more careful from now on.
I spotted Taylor facing a group of cyclopes and I fought my way toward her. One of the cyclopes noticed me as I got closer to her and it tried to hit me in the head with its club. I ducked avoiding the blow before stabbing the creature in the stomach. I helped Taylor fight the last of the group of cyclopes before we were faced with a group of hellhounds. At least being near her would reassure me that Taylor was okay but there was a lot of others to think about besides her.
Amber's point of view
At first, the battle didn't seem like it would be that bad since we were facing mostly monsters, but I wasn't stupid I knew the primordials were probably near the rear of their forces just waiting for us to reach them. The toughest opponent I'd seen so far was Atlas, who we would have to return to his punishment when this is all over. It took a while but he was eventually defeated by Artemis and Athena.
After that, we didn't really face anything but monsters for a while until the sky suddenly clouded over and it began to rain. This created a new challenge for most of us since it was a bit harder to concentrate on your enemy while being pelted with rain. It wasn't long after that the source of the storm revealed itself and I ended up being the one to face him. I had never met him but I knew enough about him to recognize him. Standing before me was Zeus the former king of the gods who had been unseated five years ago. Confusion evident on the sky god's face he asked,"Who are you?
I replied, "I suppose you wouldn't have heard, I replaced Hera as queen of the gods after you were unseated. From what I have heard she is happier without you. The Primordials have been lying to you all along you know, they don't intend to follow through on whatever they promised you. What they want is to take over after destroying us at our roots, why else do you think the battle is taking place here? Don't be a fool you should know that if they succeed you will fade just like the rest of us."
When it became clear that he wasn't going to listen to reason it became obvious that he was fixated on revenge and nothing was going to change his mind. He clearly didn't have enough common sense to see through his hatred. After I came to that conclusion I gave up on diplomacy and prepared to face one of the big three.
Considering my domains I figured that I would need help for this. Not because I was weak, I certainly wasn't but most of my domains have to do with emotions or personality traits, and those wouldn't be much help against someone like Zeus. I hoped that one of the other gods would help me with this since even with my training I didn't think that I could handle Zeus on my own.
It seemed like Tyche was on my side since Poseidon showed up just as Zeus was about to attack. I did have powers that I could have used against Zeus but like Percy and Piper, I don't like using all of them due to the fact that by using some of them I can easily make someone stop doing something, or force them to do something to the point where they practically have no choice.
Basically, I can force people to do what I want even if they had no intentions of doing it before. You could argue that if I used them we might be able to defeat him more quickly, or that he deserved it but I still didn't feel right doing it even to Zeus. The biggest difficulty with Zeus wasn't necessarily his powers over the weather but the master bolt.
Somehow he had reaquired it after he returned. Perhaps the primordials or their allies had gotten it and given it to him when he joined them. Whatever it was he has it now which will definitely make things harder. When they saw each other Poseidon and Zeus didn't even acknowledge each other, but then again I guess that's to be expected considering that Poseidon was one of the gods that participated in Zeus' demise.
The two brothers just glared at each other. Not saying a word Zeus made the weather even worse than it already was as the winds grew stronger and even more rain began to fall. Poseidon tried to lessen Zeus' storm but before he could manage it we heard thunder rumble. Realizing what was going on I glanced upward for a moment just to confirm my suspicions and quickly moved as a bolt of lightning was streaking toward me. Next Poseidon made the ground tremble underneath our feet, he'd warned me in advance but I still stumbled as did anyone else within the radius of the tremors including Zeus. Just as I was about to attack Zeus Chaos seemingly appeared out of nowhere saying, "Stop,"
I gave him a confused look wondering why he was sparing Zeus. Before he answered me he shackled the sky god in chains that I assumed he wouldn't be able to break free from. When Chaos informed me of his plan for Zeus I decided to go along with it despite the fact that five years before he'd tried to have Luke killed and probably wouldn't have cared if I had gone down with him. Now chained and stripped of his most powerful weapon Zeus was sent away by chaos until we could discuss his fate after the battle ends. I didn't know exactly where Chaos had sent him but since I trusted Chaos I went along with it. I also noticed that Zeus wasn't the only one to fall after Poseidon made the ground shake. I was pretty sure that quite a few monsters had fallen and impaled themselves on their own weapons as a result of their sudden loss of balance.
