BODY PARTS

the first time you intertwined
your fingers through mine,
i began to realise our body parts
were puzzle pieces that do not fit.

do not worry, you promised,
for i will sand down my edges,
crack bones and rearrange organs,
learn to bend my limbs around you.

it will take time, you warned,
and you might become restless,
but at the end of it, you may ease
into the perfect curve of my neck.

and like two puzzle pieces,
i will hold you, tightly,
curve my body around you
and keep you safe.
