Return

Will, Bumva, and Melody walk down the red carpet of the Engla castle to speak with the King and Queen. Near the royals of Engla are a winter blonde woman with her husband. The representatives of House Salentia. Dark circles and puffy cheeks rest below their emerald eyes.

The news of losing their daughter, Elizabeth, has hit them the hardest. The cleric they enlisted found her ashes in a furnace to hide what House Vinum did to her. Another nail in their heart was the betrayal from Garth who they treated as part of their family. In their eyes, rage, sadness, and partial relief that justice had been served.

"Melina" testifies her account as Queen Melody's handmaiden who witnessed the horrible acts of House Vinum. That she was kept away from the heroes who tried to stop her.

The king bangs his fist against his armrest. What he knew of Arthur and Garth was a complete lie. He clears his throat. "We were already told by the commander that you wanted to use House Vinum's finances to preserve her kingdom. Is that correct?"

"It is, Your Majesty", William affirms. "And....we want to pay for Elizabeth's headstone and costs. She was innocent in all of this."

Her mother steps forward. "Mr. Bennett, we appreciate it. Our baby girl..."

More tears stream down her face. Her husband holds her close.

"Melina" walks over to them. "Once I find my footing here, I will honor her memory."

Her magenta eyes give them hope that things will be alright.

Elizabeth's mom embraces her deeply.

"It's okay, darling. Just focus-"

Mel wipes her tears. "I will honor Elizabeth. Was she...your only child?"

Mr. Salentia shakes his head. "She was among our blessings. I just wish that we knew sooner."

Will and Bumva walk over and comfort the couple with deep hugs and condolences. The king and queen are moved to tears for their loss.

The king wipes his face. "Mr. and Mrs. Salentia, I promise that her name will live on in the history books. What was her favorite thing to do?"

Mrs. Salentia gathers herself. "She loved to read. Romance, history, whatever she could get her hands on."

"Then I will change the name of our largest library to her name," the king makes his ruling. With a snap of his fingers, his note taker adds that in.

Small grins crack against their faces. A peaceful memento of their late daughter.

The queen clears her throat. "Let it be done. And the news of what happened shall spread throughout each kingdom. Mr. Bennett, your great reward along with the money is anything that you wish besides the crown."

"I think a large house with a large vineyard will be fine. Plus, some things for a distillery to preserve Albarino's wine for many years to come. Mel will be in charge of that business since she knows more about that than I do."

Her ruby ports sparkle for his great consideration of her people. She now knows how to honor the late Elizabeth. "And I will dedicate some profits to her library from what I make," she asserts with confident ruby ports.

The Salentia couple acknowledges after some initial resistance.

"That's all you desire?" the queen asks William.

"Oh, and no more mandatory adventures for me. I just want to rest and enjoy time with my future wives."

"As you wish. Let it be written in and recorded for what you want. We shall give you a letter that will bypass all the laws for the house you desire," before the king motions them to wait outside the throne room.

The royal courier gives them the letter of authentication with the lion's seal. Along with a trove of coins, jewels, and pearls for his success. The royal guards accompany the treasure to ensure it is deposited into his account.

Mr, and Mrs. Salentia receive an official letter of the eventual changes. They embrace the heroic trio before leaving for their estate.........

The trio walks out feeling lighter than air.

"What a re-"

The bard's words are cut off by the lips of Melody. He kisses back while placing a hand on the small of her back.

She breaks it while staying close to his face. "Thank you for thinking of them."

"They're my family too. Would you like to meet my parents?" he whispers back.

"I would love that."

"Come, Bumva. I want to introduce you as well."

Along the way, people can't help but look at the caramel woman with magenta eyes. Women hit their husbands on the shoulders for staring too long. Children run and play with their parents watching on from a distance. Even though the threat is gone, people still carry knives and other weapons to protect themselves for the next danger.

Bumva stops Will from walking with her arm. She enters a shop as Melody covers his ears.

"What's going on?" he laughs.

"Melina" stays quiet as Bumva returns with a box. She motions to Mel to uncover his ears. He hears a sound that makes him laugh.

"It's my first time playing this," Bumva chuckles while handing him a new mandolin. He feels the strap and wears it.

He brushes his hands against the wood and the strings with excitement to play. "You're the best, Bumva the Beautiful!"

She gives him a big peck on the cheek that lingers before they continue. Mel and Bumva see that he's tuning the instrument to his liking.

"Now I just need a song for my triumphant return," he jokes.

"Let Claude have that one," Bumva suggests.

"You already did enough as is. Now, rest," Mel asserts with authority that makes him chuckle.

"I understand."

The trio rush off to his home.

"Mom! Dad!" He shouts as he gets closer to the home. Before he can open the door, he hears nothing inside.

"There's a note," Melody points out before reading.

"To our miracle, come to the guild at once."

The orc warrior scoops him up in her arms and runs in that direction.

"What's this for?" he laughs.

"Kidnapping practice!" she laughs without a filter. She turns to see Melody chasing behind with ease. Not even out of breath after nearing a street before the guild.

"Wait!" she begs.

Bumva puts Will on the ground as Melody clutches her own arm. Her magentas almost darken.

"Is it okay if I see them?" the former Skeleton Queen asks them. Will feels for her hands and finds a cheek to lay his right hand on.

"I want to show Nerdeani the flowers I returned with," the bard flirts before smacking himself in the head. "I forgot to get-"

The brushing of a flower with a sweet scent under his nose interrupts him.

"Took care of that, mi esposo."

He smiles as he leads her inside. A big huzzah makes the trio jump. Mel holds onto Will for dear life from the sudden noise. He holds back a grunt from the grip she's applying to him. He places a gentle hand on her, and she lets go.

"Sorry."

"It's alright," he removes the wince from his voice.

"So sorry, Melina!" Sindy runs down to meet her. She strokes her hand which makes Mel's body tremble. The dwarf is almost hypnotized by her special eyes. Even the others can't look away. "We didn't mean to scare you, my dear," she softly speaks.

Hearing her words gives her some relief. The dwarf is in awe from the diamond on her finger. She looks up at Bumva to see her new necklace as well. The words of the mage run through her mind...Her heart jumps from side to side from joy but she calms herself to hear a confirmation.

The dwarf then almost tackles Will with happy tears flowing down her face. Nerdeani embraces his leg as she runs down.

"You came back!" the tiny dwarf cries.

Will embraces her back. "I told you I would."

"Melina" walks towards the dwarves with the blue bell in her hands.

"Nerdeani?" she asks.

"Yes?" the little girl looks up with wonder at the new flower.

"Here's a flower from your uncle and I."

She takes a big whiff of the sweet scent and exhales. "Where's your flower, Uncle Will?"

"Mel and Bumva are my flowers," he answers to Sindy's glee. Two pairs of familiar footsteps make him smile from ear to ear.

"My baby is back!" His mother cries. Everyone gives the family their moment. After some time, his parents calm down.

"Mom, Dad, everyone! I'm engaged to Melina and Bumva."

"Finally!" Sindy exclaims as Bumva and Will are officially together.

His parents glance at Melody....and hug her tightly. The source of her fiancé's warmth reduces her to tears. His mother wipes her tears away with the sleeve of her shirt.

"He's so lucky to have you," Dorothea smiles.

"B-But who will walk me down the aisle?"

"I will take care of that, my daughter-in-law. You and Bumva are part of our family now," James states with pride. This only makes her cry more. The self-loathing and guilt erode away to reveal more of her happiness. Dorothea comforts her while she tilts her head at James.

He walks to Bumva. "Welcome to the fam-"

He gets lifted up into a hug that makes him laugh. Bumva puts him down.  and the others cheer again.

"So would that be two weddings at the same time?" Yang asks with confusion.

Yarlg chuckles from the implication of Will dancing with both of his brides at the same time.

"Everyone! I will marry Melina first then Bumva in a couple of months. They both deserve their own days," the blind bard announces.

Yang and Yarlg run down and give their friend the hug of a lifetime. Claude squeezes in to embrace his pupil.

"Don't worry, friend. I came up with a song for your return!" Claude affirms with a teary smile.

"Let's get a round of drinks ready for the newly engaged couples!" The orc growls while lifting him up on one shoulder.

"Here, here!"

The foam of beers flows to the floor as joy fills the hall once again. Everyone enjoys the large dinner of squash and tomato pies, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, spit-roasted steak, and cherry pottage. Music from Claude's mandolin joins the festivities. Although no words are sung, the notes depict the shifting tones of adventure to romance.

After dinner, Claude clinks Will's pitcher to celebrate.

"You have picked two good women, my friend."

"I sure did. Is Phineas around?"

"The geezer's resting up as we speak, but I will make sure he shows up to the wedding. I will play every annoying note I know to even get him out of bed."

"I know you will," the heroic bard jokes. He then feels a hand on his back and sniffs out a fragrant perfume that smells like oranges.

"Will, I have great news," Yang excitedly speaks.

"You have a woman, now?"

The rogue chuckles. "I still can't get one over you! This is Ai."

"Ni hao, William."

"Nice to hear you. Have you been showing Yang the art of love?"

"He's a good student in that regard," she laughs.

"I'm proud of you, my roguish friend. If you need any love advice, I'm here."

"I will let you know," he whispers before taking Ai to meet everyone else.

Hastrabena skips over to Bumva and Melody. "Congratulations to you two! He's quite a catch!"

Bumva notices her ring. "You got engaged too?!"

"Congratulations. Who's the lucky man?" Mel asks.

"Right over there," she points at a dwarf with broad shoulders chugging down a whole pitcher of beer. He wipes the remainder off his long orange beard before raising the pitcher to his fiancée.

She exhales with happiness. "He's so great to me."

"To avoid any issues, you two should have your wedding before we do," Mel proposes with a diplomatic tone. Hastrabena is slightly thrown off, but she understands with a drunken smile.

"We will. You are all invited to my wedding in a few weeks! I'm getting married!" She yells at the top of her lungs.

The women raise their pitchers and drink in celebration. Melody sees a blonde woman talking with her fiancé. To her surprise, she can overhear them past the noise.

"Welcome back, Will. We missed you."

"I missed you too, Julia."

"Now that you're engaged, our situation is done. No excuses!" She half jokes.

He laughs, but he stops himself. "I understand. I'm actually ready to be married and have kids. Cheers to our happiness and futures," he raises his empty pitcher.

She stifles a laugh as she fills it back up. They clink their glasses before sipping.

"Au revioir, my previous lover. May your home be filled with laughter and a long life."

The guilt of his spell eats away at Melody's grin.

Bumva places a hand on her shoulder.  "Let's make the most out of life."

Her contagious smile lightens her up.

"I bet I can drink you under the table," the orc propositions.

"Let's see."

They stare at each other as another round of pitchers are given to them. Several pitchers later, neither of them are feeling the effects. Melody slams down another pitcher before burping loudly. She covers her mouth from the rude behavior. Bumva just laughs at her.

"Throw politeness out the window!"

This comment lights a fire in her belly. They keep going for several rounds with neither of them giving up. A small crowd forms around them as the woman from Albarino is holding her own. William is cheering them both on, without picking a side.

"I give up!" Melody announces without slurring her words. Bumva victoriously roars while raising a glass.

"Good show!" The female orc hiccups before her head falls to the table. Melody reaches out and catches her head, before laying it down softly. The blind bard hears her snoring. He takes off his cape and wraps it around her. His steps shuffle before Melody catches him.

"Take me to my room. 3 doorssss down to....the right," he slurs.

She doesn't hunch over as his weight didn't bother her. He drops his key as he fumbled it out. After she opens the door, she closes it with a kick. She gently lays the bard on his side as she takes in his room.

"I can't wait for our new place," he hiccups.

"Me neither," she strokes his cheek. His white pupils "look" in her direction.

"Do you want a family right away?"

"I will wait until you're ready to start one," he grins. She kisses him deeply as he pulled her onto his body. She nestles her head on his chest and closes her eyes.

However, one thought haunts her. The truth that the bard's life has been shortened.

Should I tell them the truth now or wait? They at least deserve to know. She hugs the bard a little tighter to the point her arms trembled.

The bard's hand brushing through her black hair interrupts her thought process. She exhales from the soothing touch of his fingers against her scalp.

"We will tell them when you're ready."

She looks up at his face as if he had read her mind just now. He wraps his arms around her body and holds her in place.

"I will never regret the decision I made. I love you, Melody Ramirez," he whispers his declaration.

A small grin cracks on her face as she rested her head again. "I love you too, William Bennett. Let's make the most of our lives."

Thanks to his calm beating heart, she peacefully falls asleep.
