Chapter One: Yes, No, I Can't Remember // We're From The Future
We rode through the gates and lower town before stopping in a large stone courtyard. Merlin and Arthur jumped off the horses before helping Blaze and I off.
"Thank you!" We exclaimed in unison, smilingly widely.
Arthur said something to Merlin before walking away. Merlin turned to us with a smile and motioned for us to follow him.
"Come on, Gauis' chambers are this way."
"Don't you mean your chambers? I mean, you do live with Gauis', don't you?" I spoke up. Merlin stopped.
"I... I do... but, how did you know that?" I realized my mistake and looked down. Merlin began walking again and the two of us began to follow him aswell.
Blaze glanced at me with a grimace. What are we supposed to do... I thought to myself. suddenly both Merlin and Blaze turned to look at me with wide eyes. I returned their gazes with one of my own.
"What?" I said.
"How did you do that?" Blaze asked.
"Do what?"
"Your voice it was-- O- oh my god!" Blaze exclaimed.
"What? What is it, Blaze?"
"T-the visions... no but they can't be..."
"You had them too? I thought so, but when you didn't say anything..." Blaze was clutching my shoulders now and my hands held her elbows.
"Maybe it would be best to continue this somewhere else." Merlin spoke up, glancing both ways down the corridor. We continued up a short flight of stairs and then down the corridor a bit. We came across a wooden door and Merlin opened it. "Gauis?" He spoke.
"Oh, Merlin, you're back! I was wondering if y-- oh, hello. Who is this?"
"Gaius, this is um... Blaire and Jin..?" We laughed.
"No! I'm Jinxx--" I giggled.
"--And I'm Blaze!"
"What strange names." Gauis stated under his breath. "What is it you need?" He spoke up.
"We found them near the lake, they were passed out and soaking wet. They thought me and Arthur were someone else and then asked us what was up. We thought maybe they hit their heads."
"Well, come here, my dears. Let me make sure you are alright."
"Uh, one second, Blaze, Jinxx. I need to talk to Gaius for a moment. You can wait in my room, it's right through there." He pointed up a small flight of wooden steps towards a door. Blaze went up them and into the room, I glanced at Merlin and Gauis before following her.
As soon as the door was closed I heard Merlin speak.
"Gauis, I think one of them, Jinxx, Has magic. When I woke her up her eyes flashed golden and she spoke into my mind not a minute ago. I don't think she realized she did, and Blaze seemed to hear her too. Yet neither seemed to know anything and they started speaking of visions that they may have shared."
"This is strange indeed. "
I decided it was best not to listen into this conversation and joined Blaze in sitting on the small bed. I remembered the pack on my back and thought of the Pringles. They were probably all gross now, from the lake water. That was when I noticed a few things I hadn't noticed before.
Blaze and my clothes had changed. Our skinny jeans and t-shirts were now replaced with loose breeches and tunics, the converse that we had previously worn were no longer there and in their place were leather boots. Our outfits were exactly the same except the color of our tunics. Her tunic was a dirty off-white and mine a dirty red similar to Merlin's. My backpack was now a leather bag with loose straps, the Pringles, jerky, and Twizzlers were replaced with soggy bread and four apples.
"What the..." I said. Blaze seemed to be realizing the same thing as I had. It was almost like we had always been here. My mind went back to the visions again.
"T-they weren't just visions, were they? T-they were memories..." Blaze spoke softly.
I gulped. "T-tha-- no, how could they be? How could the be real... memories? I still remember 2015 with cars and cellphones and indoor plumbing. How could we have lived both?"
"Wait, that means I'm awesome with a sword and you have uncontrollable magic and our families are dead!"
"Blaze focus, what is going on? I-I can't this just-- it doesn't make any sense!" I gripped my hair and began to hyperventilate. As my panic began to set in tears started their worried decent down my face and objects started to fly around the room. None of this made sense and we couldn't be here right now and those were just some weird dreams, those visions, and this all was just a weird dream. Our family wasn't dead, and we weren't twins with the same parents and I didn't have magic, Blaze didn't know how to use a sword. None of this was real. I was just going insane. This couldn't be real.
A vase of somesort smashed against the wall. The rushing warm feeling in my veins seemed to roar as my emotions went haywire. Objects flew everywhere and I sunk to the floor, gasping for breath, still pulling at my hair. I barely noticed Blaze shout, "Oh, fuck!" as she ducked a flying book and hid under the bed.
The door burst open and in came Merlin, "What's going on?" He shouted over the loud noise of the sudden wind. I didn't change position, I couldn't seem to calm myself down.
"I don't know! She freaks out all the time, this hasn't happened before." Blaze called, she paused and thought for a minute; like she was remembering something. "Wait, no she has, but-- but she hasn't... I-I can't remember..." Blaze's face scrunched up in confusion and she looked almost scared.
Merlin quickly kneeled before me. "Jinxx, listen to me, you need to calm down. Your magic is lashing out instictively because of your emotions."
"But I don't have magic!" I cried. "Wait, I do, no I don't! I can't remember!" My sobs came back full force.
Merlin placed his hands on my cheeks and forced my eyes to meet his calm blue ones. He reached one up and gently took my hands from my hair. The objects in the air lowered their place and a few dropped.
"Jinxx, focus on me, can you do that?" I nodded. "Good, listen to my voice." His voice stayed steady and that helped to reassure me. "Now, take deep breaths. In, out. Good. You're okay. You're safe, I promise." All the objects flying around the room stopped and landed on the floor. I let myself drop forward and Merlin pulled me into his chest as I continued to sob.
"Shhh, it's okay. Everything is okay."
"Nothing is okay, Merlin." Blaze and I said in unison.
"And why is that?"
"Because we aren't from here." Blaze said as she sat beside us. My tears slowed.
"I know that already, why does that mean that nothing is okay?"
I pushed myself from Merlin's chest. My tears had stopped at this point. I swallowed and looked into his eyes.
"No, Merlin, you don't understand. We aren't from here, we aren't from this time. We're from the future, the year 2015 to be exact.
