Chapter Twenty One
Chapter Twenty One
I groggily wake up, opening my eyes slowly. My head is pounding out of control. What happened?
I sit up and I'm alone, again, in the dark room. The only light is the moonlight shining through the window. I get up and walk down the hallway.
I stop when I hear a soft quiet voice. Hayes. He probably would of heard me if it wasn't still raining. He's talking to someone. His phone is pressed against his ear. He's speaking quietly but quickly.
"She blacked out ten minutes ago" he informs the person his talking to. "Her eyes turned gold like she was connecting with Lily"
He gives the person a few seconds to speak before talking again. "I know they can't communicate with each other without their necklaces but I was in her mind and I couldn't see what she was seeing."
The person talks again and then Hayes. "Reid, I think it has something to do with her singing again. She was playing the song Abe sung at Allison's funeral. It could've trigger her memories. Her brain is trying to remember but needs help."
Reid speaks and I wish I can hear what he is saying. "Lily is the seer of course she's going to remember before Millie does. Ramadi is behind this but how?"
There goes that word again seer. Born the moon and the sun. The siren and the seer.
What does that have to do with anything? Who is Hayes talking about? The song what is that about? Who's Abe and Allison?
The king and he's two guardians knows all about it.
The girls couldn't have meant Hayes. It seems likely but my mind can't wrap around it.
Find me.
The seer, Lily? Why do I have to find her? What's going on?
Remember before it's too late.
Before what's too late? Remember what exactly? The song? Hayes said Abe played it at Allison's funeral. It confirms it was a sad song. Probably a going away song. I need to remember the lyrics and this seer Lily, is my only link to it.
He's coming.
Who's he? Who are they so afraid of. Ramadi. Hayes mentioned him to Reid. Who is it? And what did he want?
Together we're unbeatable. Separated we're in danger.
Who's powerful together? Who was separated?
Questions raced through my head without answers. It all leads back to the song. What is the song? Why is it so important?
I tune back into Hayes's conversation.
"Easier said than done." He snaps. "She's going to start asking questions. She's remembering. Tell Abe we can't keep them away from each other anymore. The sooner they know, the better. Ramadi is pushing them closer to figuring it out. We need to stay a step a head of him."
Reid says something before they disconnect.
Hayes sighs, exhausted. He places his hands onto of the counter in front of him and takes in slow deep breath.
I wait a few minutes before entering the kitchen. He doesn't notice me until I wrap my arms around his waist. He tensed up but relax when he realize it was me.
He turns around so he's facing me.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"I'm fine." He caresses my face. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I don't know what happened. How long was I out?"
"Not long." He tells me, watching me carefully. "Are you sure you're okay?"
If it isn't for the demanding questions to be answered, the mysterious poem, and the song, I would be fine. I smile up at him.
"Yeah I'm fine. You worry too much about me."
He gives me a small smile. "Someone has to."
I look into his eyes and he's hiding something from me. He knows something I don't. I want to ask him but I don't want him to find out I was eavesdropping on his conversation so I let it drop.
"Glad you care so much." I tease.
"Only when it comes to you." He replies back.
I wait until Hayes falls asleep before, sneaking into the music room. Hayes is hiding something for me. Something he doesn't want me find out about, yet. But my curiosity got the best of me. The little girls words echoes through my mind.
The song has all the answers.
If this is the only way to remembering then I have to try to figure out what it is. Find the seer. Or maybe she'll find me. Either way, I'm figuring this song out.
My fingers plays the dimly familiar song, up to the part where it's blank.
Don't stop playing. The voice tells me. Push past it.
It's not that simple. Maybe if I knew the lyrics, I could try to play it. But I don't. Where's the mysterious girls at when you needed them? How do they expect me to remember a song, I didn't know existed until one night ago? I only heard one little piece if it. Not enough to fill in the missing spots.
I close my eyes and concentrate on the music. Suddenly, I'm no longer in the music room but in a field of flowers.
"Oh my gosh" A light accent voice says. "It actually worked."
I'm still sitting on the wooden bench and my fingers are still on the cool keys. I look at the girl, standing in front of me. She looks exactly look me or I look exactly like her. It's the same girl I saw in my dreams nights ago. Is this Lily? The seer?
"Who are you?" I ask, eyeing her.
"My name is Aliyah." She informs me.
She isn't Lily. "How did you bring me here?"
She shrugs. "I don't know. I just close my eyes and had this strange feeling of needed anwsers and here I am."
I nod my head. "So they brought you to me."
"Yeah, I guess." She says. "I saw you before. Are we lost long relatives?" She asks. "You look exactly like me."
I shake my head no. "I doubt it. My parents would've told me if I had a sister."
"But we look-"
I cut her off. "There's a lot of people who look alike." I tell her. "And I'm looking for anwsers too. These girls told me I can find them by playing this song."
She perks up. "Two girls who looks the same only wearing different necklaces?"
I nod my head. "Yeah. How'd you know?"
"They told me to find the one who sings of meaning. I didn't know what that meant but I guess I have one of my answers."
"I'm still having trouble figuring it out. I only know it's a sad song. Abe played it for Allison's funeral."
"Abe and Allison?" She repeats. "I heard of them before. The girls mentioned them. And some poem."
"December remember" I suggest.
She snaps her fingers. "That's the one. Do you know what it means?"
I shake my head. "No clue. But they told me to find her before it's too late."
"They told me the same thing!" She exclaims. "Are we suppose to find each other."
"I don't know. They seem to know everything."
Aliyah sits beside me. "How does the song go?"
I play the music and she listens, carefully.
"I heard this song before." She tells me after I finish playing it. "It is a sad song. I had a dream that a young man is playing it. It's blurry, I couldn't get a good look at him but I know it pains him to sing it. I guess it was Abe."
I nod my head. "Do you know what he is saying?"
"I heard a piece of it." Her eyebrows furrows together in concentration. "Something about my love and beat inside of me."
It doesn't seem like much but it was. I put together the first two lines. "Did it go something like this?"
I play the music and the lyrics flows from my mouth.
Her eyes widen. "Exactly like that. What does the song have to do with anything?"
I shrug. "I don't know but we need to find this Abe. He seems to know a lot about what happened."
She nods in agreement. "Okay but where do we start?"
We had our questions, the poem and the song. Where do we start? The questions were going to have to wait considering no one knew the answers to them except this mysterious Abe. The poem looks like it had hints but not enough to get us a lead.
"I guess with the song." I tell her. "Then find Abe."
"Okay well I live in London" Aliyah says. "He might be foreign."
She lived on the other side of the world. That would explain her accent.
"That's good maybe someone knows about the song or poem there." I say. "Oh, by the way, I'm Audrey."
"Audrey and Aliyah" She says. "They sound like twin names."
I roll my eyes. "No they don't." We weren't twins. She lived in England and I lived in the United States.
Separated we're in danger.
I shake the thought out my mind. There was no way we were twins. No matter how much we look alike.
I look down a my hand and it was clear, see through. I frown. "What's happening?"
"I don't know. This never happened before." Aliyah says.
Before I can say anything, the connection is over and I'm back into the music room. Hayes is sitting beside me. My eyes focus on him.
"What are doing?" He asks.
"Nothing." I tell him. "I figured out the first part of the song."
"I know. Your voice woke me up." He says. "It's late. You need to rest."
He was right. I'm exhausted. Physically and mentally. I let he lead me back to the to the room. I collapse on the bed and my eyes close.
