Chapter Twelve

Abe waits for him to come and give an update on her. The moon is halfway there until it's a full moon. The day he will be able to have a strong connection with her. It's been two weeks since he left London, England. Two weeks he had with Millian. He better have had something to report or it will not end too well. The other protector is doing his job perfectly and he is younger than this protector. Maybe he thought too highly of him.

Every night the moon offered a little piece of information about her and her state of mind. But since he has been gone for a couple of weeks, making sure Lillian is okay, he didn't have time to check up on her.

Hours past before Abe starts to question if the young man is going to show up. He better show up if he knows what is good for him.

Half an hour later he finally walks through the tree lines.

"About time you decide to show up." Abe says.

The man folds his arms over his chest. "I'm not going to apologize for being late. I'm doing exactly what you order."

Abe stares at him for a moment before speaking. "Is she okay?"

"Yeah, she's fine" The man replies. "I took care of the little incident if that's what you're worried about."

Abe raise one of his eyebrows. He wasn't informed about an incident. He tends to deal with that later but for now he has bigger issues to face.

"Ramadi has went off grid. My men cannot locate him. He's planning something." Abe informs him.

"Have you not notice his men are constantly around her?" The man asks.

By the look from Abe's face he didn't.

"Explain."

The man sighs. "They look like shadows but there's a touch of magic lingering in the area. They're getting closer and my guess is they're waiting for Ramadi's signal."

"Figure out what he is planning. Do not let them get any closer." Abe orders.

He has to get back to Lillian and warn Reidese about this. Ramadi's plan cannot go into action.

"I'm way a head of it." The man tells him. "They won't be coming back any time soon."

Before he came to meet Abe, he felt one of them following them. He had a few words to say to them. They scurried away after what he had to say.

"Keep your eyes open and keep me informed."

Abe disappears into the thin air.

The man stands there, thinking. If Ramadi went off grid and his men are getting closer, then something big is going to happen. He just doesn't know when.

But it isn't about to happen. Ramadi has another thing coming. The man walks through the treeline.

He needs to get in touch with Reid. They need to find Ramadi before anything can happen. Before his day comes and they will be competely helpless.

Audrey's P.O.V

Teri's grin widest as she continues to stare at me from across the booth, her cold drink in her hands.

"You like him, don't you?" She accuses, still grinning.

My hazel eyes quickly scan the little diner. "No I don't and can you lower your voice?"

"Why? He's not around."

I know he's not but Hayes has a habit of popping up at the wrong time. And right now is definitely the wrong time.

"The only reason I can think of why you want me to lower my voice is you're crushing on my sexy bad ass friend."

"I am not crushing on him." I say. "Hayes isn't my type."

She rolls her brown eyes. "Yeah cause the type of guys you like are so perfect."

"That's uncall for."

She shrugs. "You make it seem like Hayes is a horrible person when Jason is-"

"I'm not discussing this." I interrupt her.

"Well stop denying you like him"

"I can't deny what I don't have." I point out.

"He has feelings for you." She tells me. "And you can't tell me you don't feel some type of attraction to him."

I already know Hayes has feelings for me. He's been flirting with me for the past week. And I can't deny the way he makes my heart flutters every time I see him. He keeps drawing me in but I can't give in. Not yet. I also can't help noticing Daire's death glare everytime Hayes talks me. Drama is the last thing I needed right now.

"I'm not saying he isn't attractive because he is." Who am I kidding Hayes is far more than attractive. He's unearthly sexy and I find myself fighting to stay away from him but he's irresistible. "I'm saying I don't like him."

Teri rolls her eyes again. "Uh huh. So you're telling me that hot sexy piece of meat has no affect on you. None whatsoever."

Don't lie, Audrey. The voice tells me.

I nod my head. "Exactly my point."

I wanted to tell her exactly how Hayes made me feel but I'm not entirely sure I'm ready for that. No. I know I'm not.

Why did Jason had to cheat on me? I deserve happiness too. Hayes can give me that but he also is a heart breaker. And I don't need my heart broken again.

Our little group of friends came back from dancing to this slow song and I'm thankful for it. Teri wouldn't dare mention my unexisting crush on Hayes or I pray she wouldn't.

Gina slids in beside me with Chris, pressing my side against the window. Shawn and Daire sits with Teri.

I don't know why we didn't get a bigger booth.

"Teri the next song that comes on you're dancing with me" Shawn says.

Teri smiles. "Why? Is Daire a horrible dancer?"

"No. She kept talking about Hayes."

I smirk. "How cute."

Daire glares at me. "I was only asking where he was because we have plans later on tonight."

Plans? I thought he was over Daire.

"Like Hayes would ever want to be with you." Gina says.

"His eyes are on someone else." Teri adds.

Daire rolls her eyes. "Whatever. Can we leave now?"

"I guess." Chris says. "The block party is about to begin."

We crawl out the booth and pile into our cars. The party isn't far from where we are. When we arrived a bunch of teenagers are already here. The music is blasting and they were dancing. We get out the car and I feel the beat of the music pounding in my chest.

"Do you see Hayes?" Daire asks, scanning the block.

"Relax. He'll be here when he gets here." Chris says. "But for now let's have some fun. The night is still young" He sings along with the song.

Gina and Teri jump in. "And so are we"

Teri grabs my hand and we joined the party.

It's close to one when I decide I can't stand any longer trying to dance so I jump on one of the trunk's tailgate and watch everyone have a great time.

A figure leans against the side of the trunk. I turn my head to fully see him. His arms are folded across his broad chest. He smiles at me and I return a small one.

"Not a big fan of dancing, aren't you?" He asks.

"Dancing isn't my strongest skills." I admit.

"Maybe I can help you." He offers.

I shake my head. "Thanks but no thanks. I'll probably end up hurting you."

He laughs. "We'll see about that. I'm Drew by the way."

"Audrey." I tell him.

"Well Audrey since you don't wanna dance with me how about a drink?" He asks, hopefully.

"I don't drink." I say. I see the dismay on his face. "But I guess I can for tonight."

His face brightens up. "Really?"

I shrug. "Why not? You only live once, right?"

He grins and hands me a cool beer. I open it. If my parents were here they would kill me but they weren't. So bottoms up.

"Here's to living while you're young." Drew says, clicking his beer against mine.

I tilt my head back and I feel the cool liquid slide down my throat. It taste awful. But I keep drinking.

Here's to never growing up.
