Chapter Three

"Guess who's here?" Teri says, stepping through the theshold.

Teri wants me to enjoy my time in California. She has this crazy idea that I'll fall in love and forget all about Jason. As if. I made a promise to myself to never fall in love. And I plan on keeping that promise. I don't know how much my heart can time before it finally breaks.

A short, blond head, beautiful lady walks around the corner, wiping her hands on her apron. This lovely lady is my aunt.

She smiles so big it looks like it hurts. Teri thinks she's going to her but surprise both of us when she hugs me, tightly.

"Oh just forget about me" Teri says, crossing her arms. "Your daughter, which by the way, hasn't been here for the last two weeks."

She ignores her pouting daughter. She pulls back to look at me."How have you been? Are you doing okay?"

I force a small smile. "I'm doing fine"

If you define fine as crying every night and giving up on everything and everyone, then I'm doing freaking "fine".

"That's good, sweetie" She rubs my back. "I just made breakfast. Are you hungry?"

Aunt Debbie is always willing to help you even if you don't realize you need it. She's always there if you need anything. And I mean anything.

Teri scoffs. "What about me?"

Her mom smiles at her. "You're more than welcome to join us, Teri"

We walk into the kitchen and my nose is fill with different kinds of smells. From pancakes to bacon.

"You're back" A young boy says, full of disgust.

I grin. Ross. A silly, playful little boy. He's always giving Teri a hard time. And she does the same.

"It's not like I want to see your hideous face, either" Teri tells her brother.

"You haven't been here for five minutes and you're already giving me a headache."

Teri narrows her eyes."You little piece of-"

"Teri!" Debbie yells, interrupting her. "Watch it."

"Mom" She points. "He started it."

"Well then I'm ending it." She says.

Teri rolls her eyes and I fight back a smile.

"What are you smiling for?" Teri asks, annoyed.

I shake my head. "Nothing."

"Yeah right" She says, grabbing a muffin.

"Goodmoring, honey" A cheery voice says, entering the kitchen.

Uncle Finn. He doesn't notice me until he kiss Debbie on her lips, making Teri gag.

"I think I'm gonna be sick" She says.

"Audrey?" He says. "I didn't know you were here."

"I wanted to surprise you." I tell him. "Surprise."

He hugs me for a while. Finn is my mom's older brother. He knows how I feel. We both lost someone we loved very much.

He lets me go and goes to wrap his arms around Debbie.

"How long are you staying?" He asks.

I shrug. "I don't know, yet."

He nods his head. "You know we're here if you need a place to stay."

"No. Audrey's staying with me." Teri tells them.

"We know" Ross says. "That's why he offered."

"I feel the love here." Teri says, sarcastically. "Aud you ready to leave?"

I feel like I don't really have a choice but to answer yes. I nod. "Yeah."

"Are you going to come back?" Debbie asks.

"Mom we'll be back later" Teri says.

"Can I go?" Ross asks, jumping up.

"You have to be seventeen or older to hang with the big kids." Teri tells him, ruffling his dirty blond hair."And last I check, you're ten."

"Mom!" He says.

"Teri take your brother with you. A little time together won't kill you."

"Dad" She groans.

"Just take him with you. Just don't rip each others heads off."

Teri snatch her keys. "No promises."

As soon as we get into the car, Teri face Ross.

"Mom didn't say how long I had to drag you around with us. So don't get anything ideas." She warns him.

"Don't worry. Just drop us off at Vinz." He replies back.

Teri frowns. "Who is us?"

"Dylan and James."

"Who the hell said you can invite Dumb and Dumber." She says. "I'm not your taxi driver."

"Come on, Teri" Ross begs.

"Teri just drop him off." I say.

"Fine. At least I won't have to baby sit."

Teri pulls out the driveway and speeds down the street.

"I'm too old for a babysitter." Ross says.

Teri lifts one of her eyebrows. "Oh really? You still watch Power Rangers."

"I do not!"

"Sure you don't" Teri says.

I laugh. "Poor Ross. I figure you'd love Spider-Man or something."

Ross slounches in the seat, folding his arms across his chest.

In a way, he reminds me of my younger brother. I guess it's because they were always together, coming up with a plan that will cause them to get in trouble. But it was always "worth it" to them.

In the next moment, I'm envious. I'm jealous of Teri. She has her lovey dovey parents, an annoying brother and the kind of love I wish I could receive.

And here I am, lost and hopeless. Don't cry. I tell myself. I try to shallow but there's a lump in my throat.

I put on my shades to hide the tears building up. I look out the window. We past by tons of people and stores but it's a blur.

I realize I'm crying. So much for being strong. Teri notice too.

"Alright, brats" She says. "Get out the car."

They do and Ross tells her. "Don't forget to pick us up."

"You're pushing it." She warns but looks at the clock. 12:00 pm. "I'll be back in 3 hours. Don't do anything stupid and stay in this" She motions around her."area. Don't go anywhere else."

Ross rolls his blue eyes. "Okay."

He and his friends runs inside Vinz. On the outside it looks like a video stores but there's more inside.

She pulls from the curb. "You okay?"

I manage a small nod. "Yeah just having flashbacks of the time Ross and Ryan were being stupid."

"That's all the time." She replies. "Do you want a smoothie?"

I wipe my tears and smile through the tears. "Yes, Teri. I want a smoothie."

Teri is the worst comfronter ever but I got to love her. She says the first thing that pops into her head. I know what she's trying to do and I'm glad I have her in my life.

***

"I can not believe you did that." I says, laughing.

Teri crossing her arms. "She should've moved when I told her the first time not the third time."

Teri has issues and not your normal kind. We were sitting down, sipping our smoothies, having a good time, when a pretty red head decided to block our view of the beach. I didn't have a problem with it but Teri did.

She did ask politely if the girl, Carly, could moved. She didn't. By the third time it got more rude. That got her attention.

Long story short, Teri ended up calling the girl out her name and smoothies went flying.

"You called her a bitch." I point out. "I highly doubt we're allow back inside."

Teri rolls her brown eyes. "She is a bitch and she deserve that ass whooping"

I laugh so hard I end up snorting. Teri laughs. And by the time we're done we're on the ground.

I needed that. I can't remember a time I laughed so much. We stand up and climb into the car.

Teri drives around, rolling the windows down. She turns the music all the way up and starts jamming out.

"Come on, Aud" She says.

I shake my head. "I don't dance."

"Neither do I." She tells me. "You know what, tomorrow's Friday and you just made me come up with something."

Teri plus plan equals distaster. I already fear for tomorrow. I hope it's nothing too crazy.

Teri steps on the brake, hard. It's a good thing I have my seatbelt on.

"What the hell, Teri?" I say. "What are you doing?"

"Is that who I think it is?" She says, peering out the window.

I follow her glare and I see Teri's boyfriend, Shawn, talking to a brown head girl. How did Teri notice him? We are literally half a mile away from him.

"That could be his sister." I tell Teri, as she reverse back.

"No, I met his sisters" She says. "So who's the slut?"

She parks her car and studies them for a moment. She's debating if she should get out the car or not.

"It could be his cousin." I try one more time. "You never know."

"Does that look like something a cousin would do?" She asks, irratated. "She likes him."

"How do you know?"

"My dad's a detective. He taught me some things." She tells me, still looking, glaring, at them.

Before I can say anything, Teri hops out the car and marches over to them.

I follow after her. "Teri!"

I bite my lower lips. Teri's smiling. I guess Shawn doesn't see the fire in her eyes, yet.

"Hey, baby" Shawn says, grinning. "I didn't know you were back"

Wrong thing to say. Shawn doesn't know he has a death wish coming.

"Funny how that works, huh" Teri says.

"Hi, Aud" Shawn says. "How are you?"

"Good." I tell him.

"But you aren't if you don't tell me who this girl is." Teri threatens, pointing to the girl.

He hesitate. The worst thing he could possibly do right now.

All I can think of is You better run.

"Oh I thought I introduce her to you already."

"Must've slipped my mind" Teri says.

"Well this is Sarah, my friend from college."

Shawn's about a year older than us. He starts college this year while Teri begins after I finish high school. She wants to start college with so we can "be crazy and have so much fun together." But in reality, it's so I can help her.

"A friend?" Teri repeats. "I'm his girlfriend."

"She knows. I told her about you." Shawn says.

"Yeah he never stops talking about you." Sarah says. "I feel like I already know you."

Teri gives her a fake smile "That's funny cause I feel like I don't know you at all."

It gets awkward really fast. Shawn throws me a help me look.

I grab Teri's arm. "Come on. Let's go"

"Why can't we stay?" Teri asks.

"Just come on."

"It was nice meeting you!" Sarah calls out.

"I bet it was, whore" Teri mutters.

Once I get Teri to calm down, I order pizza. I had to take Teri to the apartment so she wouldn't go on a rampage. Right now, we're watching movies.

Shawn constantly text her to tell her she is just a friend. When Teri smiles, I knew he said something right.

It isn't until much later when I realize something.

"Oh my gosh!" I say, sitting up. "We forgot about Ross and his friends."

Teri's eyes widen. "Oh fuck. My mom is gonna kill me."
