Chapter Nine

"They're were right here" I say, pointing to the spot I last seen them.

"Are you sure, Audrey?" Teri asks.

My eyebrows furrows together in confusion. I could've swore they were right here. But there is nothing. No one is here beside Teri and I.

"Maybe you thought-" She starts but then she notice the blood on my shirt and face. "Ohmigosh Audrey! What happened? Nevermind. I'm taking you to the hospital."

"No! I'm fine." I tell her. "We need to find Hayes."

She ignores me. "We are going to the hospital."

I stare at her in disbelief. "Do you think I'm making this up?"

"I don't know what to think." She says, climbing into her car. "Get in the car."

I do as she says. She asks questions but I don't respond back. My thoughts are on Hayes, the dead body and the unknown. How did this happen?

We arrive at the hospital and I see police cars. Who told them?

We get out the car and walk inside. And a mid-age nurse notice us.

"Are you Audrey Collins?" She asks.

I nod.

"Okay. Follow me, please." She leads me around the corner and into one of the rooms. She places me into a room seperated by curtains on both sides.

"Have a sit. The police will be here in a moment to asks you some questions." She informs us before leaving.

A few minutes later a different nurse walks in and check my cut I have on my face. She said I'm lucky the knife wasn't infected.

She leaves and the polices walks in.

"Audrey I'm Detective Cruz and that's Deputy Kenny. We're just going to ask you a few questions, okay?" She says.

"Okay."

Detective Cruz hold up a picture. "Is this the guy who attack you?"

Even though it was dim, I could still make out some of his feature. Especially the deep long scar on the side of his face. He tried to hide it by wearing a hoodie over his head.

The picture that is in face of me shows a man that's been in custody a bunch of time. He doesn't smile. This is the man who killed unknown people and tried to kill me. This is him, unmistakably.

"Yes" I say no doubts in my voice.

"Are you sure?" Kenny asks.

Teri snaps. "I think she knows who her attacker is"

They look at her. "I'm sorry who are you?"

"I'm her cousin, Teri."

"Teri I'm going to ask you not to speak." Kenny says.

I hear Teri mutter "freedom of speech" under her breathe.

"Yes I'm sure it's him."

"Officer Daniels you can take Eli Smith. The girl just confirmed it is him." Kenny says into his walkie talkie.

"Wait. He's here?" I ask, confused.

"Yeah after the beaten your boyfriend gave him, we had to take him to the hospital." Detective Cruz tells me.

"Boyfriend?" Teri repeats, confused like me.

"Yeah. Tall, dark headed, olive skin, dressed in black." Kenny says.

"Hayes? He's here too?" I ask, my heart pounding.

"Yeah he's actually two down from you." Cruz tells me, leaving.

I jump off the bed and somewhat ran to Hayes' room. I pull back the curtain and there he is.

He looks fine for what I can tell. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" I ask.

He chuckles. "Glad you had so much faith in me. But yeah I'm fine."

"He didn't touch you?"

"Nope" He says popping the p.

"You're a lair." I say.

"Okay fine. He might have cut me on my stomach but nothing to serious." He adds when he sees the worry on my face.

I relax. "So why did you tell the police you were my boyfriend?"

"Don't look so offended." He says. "Girls would be excited to be my girlfriend."

I roll my eyes. "Anyways..."

"I had to tell them something of how I was connected to you. They see it as me protecting my girl as oppose of something else." He says. "And you played the part perfectly."

"What part?" I say. "There was no part."

"You sure were excited to see me."

"Yeah because I wanted to make sure you were okay. Nothing else."

He smirks, amusement shining in his grey eyes. "Keep telling yourself that, Boo"

Teri walks in. "Are you two, lovebirds, ready to leave?"

We leave the hospital and decide to let Hayes stay the night with us, considering how late it is.

I know Teri locked the door but I want to make sure it's locked for reassuration. It is. Hayes is standing behind me. I look at him.

"No one's going to hurt you." He promises. "Not as long as I'm here."
