By the time we got home I was tired, I grabbed a beer from the fridge and laid down on the couch. I let out a sigh and stretched as I grabbed the TV remote. After a while Dante came and sat down on the floor in front of me dressed in pajamas.
He let out a yawn. "I'm so tired." He sighed.
"Well we've been hunting non stop until tonight, and we're only one of the few grade S Guardian Master and Servant pairs in this town, although since Shayla and her Guardian Master are out of commission for now it makes things a lot harder on us." I told him offering him some of my beer.
Dante took it and took a sip before handing it back to me. "I keep forgetting that Sharon's dead she was so nice, I remember she use to bring Ethan over for us to play together." He muttered.
I frowned. "Yeah Shayla was devastated, Jennifer died soon after to even though Shayla wiped Ethan's memory of her and everything to do with supernatural creatures." I whispered.
I felt a chill run over my skin as there was a sudden spike in demonic energy and I shuddered as I sat my bottle of beer down on the floor.
Then I frowned as I noticed that this demonic energy was strong, but familiar. In response to the demonic energy the lights began flicker and the TV began to display static.
Dante narrowed his eyes at the TV as it flickered. "Oh come on what now?" He grumbled.
I got up off the couch and walked over to the front door. I was about to open it when I heard a loud thud from outside. I froze and sniffed the air but couldn't really smell anything, so I opened the door.
The first thing I saw when I opened the door was a small trail of blood, the next thing I saw was, Shayla. For a second or two I couldn't believe that it was actually her.
"Christopher, what is it?" Dante asked me coming to the door.
When he saw Shayla he looked just as surprised as I was. "Holy fucking, shit." He whispered.
I knelt down next to Shayla without saying a word and picked her up. She moved a bit but didn't wake up. Dante closed the door as I laid her down on the couch.
"Okay why is she here?" He asked me. I let out a sigh as I examined Shayla.
"I don't know." I told him. Shayla and I had a rocky history to be honest, She was a half demon Kitsune and my ex girlfriend. We parted on horrible terms when I caught her cheating on me. But we eventually managed to become best friends over the years, and if I had a female Guardian Master I would bring it to her.
Until I met Dante, I used to go to Shayla if I needed someone to cuddle at night. Although if I didn't feel like hunting Shayla would still let me feed off of her from time to time.
Dante narrowed his eyes at me. "You honestly, don't know why she's here?" He asked me.
I rolled my eyes. "I already told you I don't know, besides she's hurt." I sighed. I probed the back of Shayla's head making sure to be careful of her fox ears. I found that her long black hair was matted with blood in the back and it smelled delicious.
I cover my nose with my free hand. "Dammit." I muttered.
"Are you going to be okay Christopher?" Dante asked me.
"Yeah, she's just bleeding more than I thought can you get the first aid kit out of the bedroom." I reassured him.
Dante frowned but left to get the first aid kit, I continued to examine Shayla and found a small slash on her side. I poked it and her eyes flew open, Shayla took a swing a me and I dodged which caused Shayla to fall on the floor groaning.
I heard a chuckle from behind me and I let out a sigh as I helped Shayla up. "Not funny Dante." I told him.
"It's funny, if I find it funny." He replied.
I sat Shayla on the couch and she stared at me blankly, her dark blue eyes glazed over. "Shayla, Shayla do you know where you are?" I asked her.
Shayla just blinked for a moment then her fox ears perked up and she smiled slightly. "Hi, Christopher." She said softly.
Well that's good at least she hasn't been blinded by anything. I thought. "Do you know where you are?" I asked her again.
Shayla frowned and her eyes slowly looked around. "Outside, I think." She told me.
"Are you sure that she's not wasted?" Dante asked me glancing at Shayla.
Kitsunes were known to be heavy drinkers and partiers even among demons and supernatural creatures. They made the best alcohol and liquor in our world to. So, sometimes if they looked and acted drunk they were assumed to be drunk.
"Okay how many times do I have to tell you this, She's hurt. I think she has a concussion or something." I told him.
Then I turned back to Shayla who was struggling to keep her eyes open. "Shayla who hurt you?" I asked her slowly.
She squinted at me. "It was really weird." She said.
"Shayla, what do you mean by weird? You and I are considered weird to humans remember." I reminded her.
She bit her lip. "No, it was weirder than me." She protested.
My eyes widened slightly because saying something is weirder than Shayla was saying a lot. Shayla was the daughter of a Scandinavian viking woman from one thousand and fifteen years ago, while her father was one of the Kitsune gods named Oshakiro. So yeah finding someone as weird as Shayla was pretty difficult.
For each demon clan there was a god, there was a Bakeneko god, an Inugami and Shikigami goddess, a Tengu god, the Kitsune race had two gods Oshakiro and Alkain, two nine tail foxes that while they may be gods, and identical twins they could barely see eye to eye on anything.
I turned to Dante. "She says that something weirder than her, attacked her." I told him.
He gave me a look of shock and disbelief. "Are you sure she just didn't get drunk, change into her fox form and walk in front of a bus or a truck or something."
"No, I was making sure Ethan was okay when this short, winged glowy woman attacked me." Shayla whined.
Dante looked at Shayla. "You know, with all that information you just gave I could write an essay." He told her.
She smiled at him as I picked up the first aid kit. I had trouble cleaning Shayla's wounds due to all the blood at first but I forced myself to continue. By the time I finished treating her wounds, I was covered in blood and hungry.
I let out a sigh and licked some blood off the back of my hand. If I had been a Kitsune I could have healed Shayla instantly, but then again even as a Bakeneko my demonic energy is better used for reanimating the dead anyway.
