This is possibly the most depressing list ever... It consists of the many girls Arnie loved and watched die, and the cult kids Jade lost over the years. This is mainly included to serve as a quick reference to who they were and how they died. Most do not ever appear in the series, as they all died prior to the first book. For the most part, only River actively appears in anything other than a flashback.

ARNIE'S GIRLFRIENDS (In order of death, because that's how Arnie always lists them)

MEGHAN CLARK

Meghan was Arnie's first girlfriend. She was his foster sister. Her family abused her, and after she was taken away, so did her foster parents. Arnie tried to protect her from them until he was moved to another foster home. Ultimately, when she was twelve, the abuse was too much for her, and she took her own life.

Arnie was eleven. He was the one who found her body after he'd been pulled to her empathically when she did it. By the time Aideen pulled him out of the vision and Dylan healed his wrists, it was too late to save Meghan.

TARA GAINES

Tara was a slayer. She grew up training with Arnie, and she helped him cope after Meghan's suicide. She helped him find a reason to smile again. They ended up dating. She was killed by warlocks two days before her thirteenth birthday. Arnie was barely twelve.

ALEXIS WU

Alexis was very funny and loved making Arnie laugh. She was a witch. She was killed by warlocks almost exactly a year after Tara was, bringing all of the trauma of losing Tara back up for Arnie, who had just turned thirteen. Alexis was also only thirteen.

JAMIE GALLAGHER

Jamie was a vampire who Arnie met through Aideen. She was only four days younger than him. She was spunky and loved going on random "adventures," never planning things and simply enjoying life as it happened. She came into Arnie's life as he started getting self-destructive from his grief. She pushed him to stop blaming himself for everything bad that happened and to live in the moment.

She and her parents were killed after a drunk driver crashed into their car. She and Arnie were both thirteen.

KAREN CHOI

Karen was a kindhearted and gentle witch. She was kidnapped by corrupt slayers who wanted to lure Arnie into an ambush. She was tortured for days until Arnie found her. As soon as he did, the corrupts decapitated her in front of him.

Arnie took most of the people responsible down, and the others fled. He only broke down after they'd been defeated. He was fourteen and Karen was thirteen.

SERENA JOHNSON

Serena was a lifeguard and an excellent swimmer. She was also a slayer. Arnie enjoyed training with her because she was good at challenging him and pushed him to get stronger.

To everyone's confusion, she drowned one day while she was swimming by herself. There were no signs of foul play, but Arnie was always suspicious. Serena and Arnie were both fourteen.

DESI SANCHEZ

Desi was a vampire and a party girl. She was an alcoholic, and one night when Arnie wasn't there to stop her from drinking too much, she died from alcohol poisoning. He still blames himself for leaving her alone that night because he was always able to stop her from going too far.

Arnie was fifteen and Desi was sixteen.

LAUREN RILEY

Lauren was a powerful young witch. She was very kind and always made Arnie smile. She had a very big heart. She mysteriously went into kidney failure shortly after she started dating Arnie. Prior to this, she had always been very healthy. It progressed quickly and she died before she could receive a transplant.

Lauren died with Arnie holding her hand and begging her not to go. Arnie and Lauren were both fifteen.

JENNY DE JESUS

Jenny was a werewolf. Arnie met her through Jesse. About three weeks after they started dating, she was kidnapped by a schizophrenic man who stabbed her twice before dumping her outside of a hospital. No one knew why the man did it. She should have survived, especially because the lycanthropy kept the wound from being fatal, but she died from surgical complications a few days later.

Arnie and Jenny were both fifteen.

JADE'S CULT KID FRIENDS

RIVER

River was Jade's best friend, Joey's father, and Raine's older brother. He called Jade "Green" and she called him "Blue." This was a reference to their eye colors, which they were both named for. Jade's eyes are jade green and River's were blue like the sea, so they liked to joke that their parents were unoriginal and might as well have named them Green and Blue.

When they were twelve, the cult made them conceive Joey. River promised he'd be there every step of the way. He even suggested running away together to raise Joey in a safe place.

He was funny, sarcastic, and brave. No matter what happened, River never let it break him. He was a Reaper, but he had only unlocked some of his powers. Had he lived longer, he would have been incredibly powerful. He always knew how to make Jade laugh, even when she was at her most broken. She could never stay mad at him for long. The two were inseparable.

On the night Joey was born, River's aunt Cecily sacrificed him while Jade was forced to watch. Jade couldn't help him because she was in labor. They were both thirteen years old.

River actively appears in the series more than once, but I won't spoil those details here.

KELSEY DALLAS

Kelsey was gentle and very sad. Despite the fact that she was a year older than Jade, Jade felt the need to protect her. She was sacrificed by her parents the Halloween before Where Angels Go to Die takes place while Jade struggled to get to her. Jonah and Zachariah held her back and prevented her from saving her friend.

Kelsey was fifteen and Jade was fourteen.

KIMBERLY EVERETT

Kimberly was a good person who fought a lot of emotional demons. She was fun at parties but tended to be wild. She liked to self-medicate to cope with her trauma. She overdosed on drugs at fourteen years old. Jade was twelve at the time.

LUKE HARRISON

Luke was a really sweet kid who always looked after the cult kids who were younger than him. When Luke turned twelve, he refused to take his cult vows. His parents cut his throat, but not deep enough to kill him right away. They then beat and tortured him, trying to break him. He defiantly declared he would never be one of them. They slashed his throat for real. Jade was covered in his blood. He looked at her with tears in his eyes, silently begging for someone to save him. Jonah had to restrain Jade to keep her from helping him. Luke died at her feet. 

The cult tossed his body into the fire. Several of the cult kids later pulled him out of the flames so they could bury what was left of him. Jade was the youngest one there at just ten years old. The kids dug a grave for him, wrapped him in a white sheet, and buried him. Luke's death affected Jade very strongly.

PAUL LEE

Paul liked to do things he wasn't supposed to do, like driving before he was old enough to even get his learner's permit. He was rebellious, but he had a good heart, and he had a soft spot for Jade, who was a year younger than him. She always loved hanging out with him because he was a lot of fun. He was a trouble maker, but he always kept her safe.

Paul stole a car to go for a joy ride one day and crashed it into a barricade on the highway. He was killed instantly. He was fifteen years old, and Jade was fourteen.

SCOTT RIVERA

Scott was troubled. He cared deeply for his friends, but he didn't trust anyone except for the other cult kids. He struggled with severe depression and anxiety.

When Scott was fifteen, he couldn't take the abuse anymore. Seeing no other way out, he killed himself. Jade was twelve at the time.
