Chapter 33: Back to square one

Jungkook looked into Jimin's eyes and wanted so much more than a relationship that couldn't move on any further. However, he had to understand that love alone could lead him to his own demise. The best he could do was sit there and gaze at the one he wanted. Hoping that Jimin alone could open his eyes and choose the boy over his job. The job Jimin had was something he never chose for himself. It was always the fault of his father who started all of this.

Mr. Park always wanted his older son to work with him in the station like this... Not really giving him a choice in life. Even Jimin's younger brother was placed as an officer so he could serve to the people in Seoul. That's what Mr. Park always wanted. Jimin of course, never chose this but, he went by it because that was something he couldn't give up. As soon as he got in it, this job grew on him.

Jimin met eyes with the detective and brushed his hair back as he stood up to look down at the younger. "Just so you'll understand, I don't want you to go as my ex..." Jimin said and made sure Jungkook was covered properly. "Don't think of us as ex lovers. Just think that we are taking a short break so you'll stay safe." Jimin told the boy before walking off to the kitchen to prepare Jungkook some tea and bring him a hot towel to place over his head. "I think I know why you got sick." Jimin continued and rose his voice so Jungkook could hear.

The boy turned his tired little head over to face Jimin through the opening of the kitchen. Watching the man just take out the bags of herbal tea along with a white small towel he was going to place over Jungkook's head. Jimin then looked up to see that Jungkook was looking over at him and letting out sharp breaths from his high fever. The boy only coughed and kept staring with his teary eyes. He looked like a mess. Growing sick and having his heart shattered as he still clung around to the man he still chose over anything.

"It must have been the weather. You went out to purchase groceries.." Jimin told the boy as Jungkook shook his head. Not wanting to accept the fact that he went against Jimin's words and went out to get groceries on his own like the first day he got there. Jimin gazed at Jungkook and took out a bag of rice cakes just sitting in the fridge. "I know I've never purchased these recently and, I never purchased the herbal tea, plum tea, ginseng tea, fruit, banana milk, chips, instant ramen noodle cups and a lot of meat in the freezer. Jungkook, you aren't fooling me." Jimin laughed and started to brew the tea by heating up the water in a steel tea pot. "If you wanted groceries, you could have told me! I don't want you going out in that rain. It's dangerous for you. Ugh, for a second there I thought the pizza was tampered with!"

Jungkook kept staring at Jimin as he continued to cough and place his hand over his head. "And I guess you only threw up because you haven't eaten anything all day. You were eating that pizza really quick." Jimin said as he smiled and looked up at Jungkook. The boy now turned to his side. Shunning Jimin's direction and facing the cushions of the couch in silence. Jimin knew he looked back at the love they had for each other that still grew even after, but, they couldn't resume what they had. "Jungkook...?" Jimin called out, but Jungkook only ignored Jimin with his face looking away. The older didn't bother to try to talk to Jungkook about this. Talking about it would only cut the wound back open to cause more blood to come out of it. Not really allowing time to do the healing.

Jimin poured the boiled water onto a black mug and dipped the herbal tea bag in it as he gazed up to see Jungkook just coughing into the cushions so miserably. Jimin took out a few rice cakes and poured himself tea into a white mug while he carried the mugs over to the table, returning to take the younger his moist and hot towelette dipped into a bowl of warm water. Jimin returned with the bowl of warm water to Jungkook and set it to the side of the table right by the couch as he rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up. The older twisted the towel to squeeze out the remaining water within it and softly placed the slightly hot towel over Jungkook's forehead. Causing the boy to finally turn around and face forward.

By there, his eyes met with Jimin's and he almost wanted to hug him close. He just wanted to cuddle with the older, however, that wasn't going to happen. He would always think the same thoughts over and over again once he looked up at Jimin. Yet, he was happy the older was willing to stick by even if his heart was shattered too. He did a good job hiding the side once more with his hard shell. Something Jungkook never thought Jimin would use in front of him after so long.

"Let's just talk. I don't want you to think horrible about what we have. I want to protect you... I know you're capable of protecting yourself. But, you haven't went out there yet. You haven't solved your first case. You haven't ever crossed paths with your first criminal. You'll only become a target if you catch your first criminal or you are seen with me. Close to me and only then, they'll see you as my weakness. Imagine what they could do!" Jimin added as Jungkook let out a sigh and looked down. "I want to keep you here tomorrow. I'll come back and watch over you. You'll be safe since almost all of my windows here are bulletproof and the windows have good locks on them. Even the doors too. But the front door is just wood. Not steel like the back door." Jimin claimed and adjusted the towel over Jungkook's forehead.

"I'll leave you alone tomorrow. Getting a little sick won't keep you out of work for a whole week." Jimin told the boy as Jungkook still didn't want to respond. "...H-Here. I made you tea and you could eat a bit of the rice cake. It's not healthy, but atleast it's something other than that pizza." Jimin claimed as Jungkook finally turned his gaze to the boxes of cold pizza now.

'You did this on purpose. You ordered big boxes of pizza so you could spoil me before you break my heart.' The boy signed as Jimin sighed and looked down. 'I'm not stupid. I'm a detective for a reason.'

"I never said you were stupid... I just didn't want to act like a total dick before breaking your heart. I wanted to treat you like I normally would. But... with a little more..." Jimin confessed as he sat down on the floor and watched Jungkook sit up and rest his head on the armrest of the couch to accept the cup of tea.

'Asshole.' Jungkook signed by pressing his index finger and thumb together to make a 'perfect' sign but tilted sideways.

"Stop calling me that!" Jimin laughed while Jungkook tried his best not to smile, but it was something he couldn't do. Every time Jimin spoke to him, he was falling in love with the Chief again and again. Increasing the feelings he still had for Jimin. "Ah, just finish your tea and your rice cake so I could help you to your room." Jimin added and held his white cup up to his mouth so he could take a sip while Jungkook drank out of his black mug.

After their short conversation while drinking tea and eating rice cakes, Jimin walked with Jungkook to his room to help Jungkook to sleep. Jimin didn't care the burning boy's temperature and only believed it was just a small cold since he wanted to risk his health to bring in groceries for Jimin. It was a stupid idea to Jimin, yet a thoughtful one of course. It was enough for Jimin to smile at how generous his detective really was. This added onto the many sweet and fruitful things Jungkook would do for Park Jimin.

Jimin guided Jungkook to his own room and set him down onto the bed to unbutton his dress shirt. The boy closed his eyes and coughed into his hands while he pried his gaze open to pout at Jimin. "Who told you to go get groceries? It was stupid of you to do that... You could have waited for me to wake up." Jimin added but Jungkook shook his head.

The younger then closed his eyes and pressed both of his index fingers against his thumbs on both hands and rose it to the end corner of his eyes. The boy then opened his eyes and parted his index finger from his thumb in a shape of two L's. Giving off a surprised expression to show he meant to sign, 'Surprise.'

"Ah, you're a man of many words, Jungkook." Jimin added and took Jungkook's dress shirt off. Causing the boy's eyes to blow wide. "Calm down, Jungkook. I'm trying to change your clothes. Don't try to act all innocent. I've seen you naked already." Jimin confirmed. Leaving the boy to blush and cover his face from looking back at that night. Jimin walked over to the cabinets and took the boy's clothes to sleep with and made his way back to Jungkook who was laying on the bed with his underwear. The younger did feel a little embarrassed, but Jimin only tried not to seem as if he was staring at Jungkook's body for too long. If he did, many lewd thoughts would slip into his mind. Resulting in him touching Jungkook and making the night longer for the both of them.

Alas, Jungkook was sick. He was heartbroken and coughing, but it didn't help the fact that he could look at Jimin and long to smile. Wanting to brush away what Jimin told him tonight and still love Jimin tomorrow. Once Jimin sliped the clothes of a black sleeved sweater over the boy's torso, long and loose grey bottoms to sleep with, Jungkook figured Jimin wasn't going to sleep with him anymore.

"Alright. Text me if you want anything. Don't even get ready for work tomorrow." Jimin advised Jungkook and as soon as he turned around to leave, Jungkook quickly sat up from the bed and gripped onto Jimin's hand. Not allowing him to leave. "AH- Jungkook... What are you doing?" Jimin asked as Jungkook looked as if he was going to cry.

His eyes told a story of his sorrow. Having Jimin ignore him and not hold him close for the night didn't seem right. Jungkook was sick and understood if Jimin couldn't risk getting sick too, but staying in the room was enough to show Jungkook he could still find the light at the end of what they had. Having Jimin close by was enough to make the nightmares turn into a good and happy dream after everything that just happend between the two.
