Chapter 3: Communication

"Alright..." Jimin called out as he picked Jungkook's slightly wet clothes up. "Since the power is back on and you are my partner, can I wash your clothes and put them to dry while you're here?" Jimin asked and looked at the younger nod his head happily. The boy was proud to be there with the Chief. Knowing Jimin was a very tough nut to crack on the outside showed that no one knew that Jimin was just a kind person. He staged his strict personality so he wouldn't get stepped all over.

Jimin dismissed himself and walked off to a small room where he had his laundry machine, his laundry detergent, dryer and press board. The boy made sure he took Jungkook's ID and badge out of the pockets of the coat while he silently bit his tongue from talking about Jungkook. The boy could hear but he couldn't talk... So this alone left Jimin to remain completely silent so he could hear what the boy was up to at the moment.

"My partner... a mute... I can't even talk to him! Who in their bright mind told him he could be a detective? No detective is mute..." Jimin grumbled on in his head. He didn't like working with someone and felt like he was in a school project for that matter. Working with a mute made it even worst. Jimin didn't like the boy... He just hated the fact that he couldn't communicate normally.

"This is ridiculous... Why am I so angry at him?" Murmured the man as he looked back to make sure the boy didn't move from the couch. Yet again, how could he when he only had on his tank top and underwear? "I just hate the idea of sharing my job... And I hate the idea more when I can't even communicate with my partner..." Jimin thought the rest of his ongoing rant with himself. "I need a different detective. This one won't do."

Jimin set Jungkook's clothes to wash as he set them into the washing machine and stepped out to see Jungkook just going on his phone to message Jimin.

"Yeah, I'll put your phone to charge. Just turn it off and hand it over."

"Good point." Jimin said and then looked around for an outlet. He used an extension cord to reach the couch where Jungkook was and charge the boy's phone so he could communicate. "There. Is it charging?" Jimin asked and watched Jungkook nod his head and a bunny smile was plastered onto his face. This made Jimin just nod his head and sit far from the boy while he looked at his phone to see what Jungkook had yet to say next. "Jungkook, tell me about yourself." Jimin said as Jungkook turned his head to look at Jimin and nodded his head again as he sat in the warm pile of blankets and pillows.

The older carefully read through the brief explanation of what Jungkook had to say about himself as introduction. "How did you become mute?" Jimin asked while Jungkook looked at the screen for a little while longer before typing again.

"Oh... I'm sorry for asking." Jimin stated this made Jungkook smile and look over at Jimin to assure him that it was okay. "I don't think this rain will stop... If anything happens, you're more than welcomed to stay." Jimin added while Jungkook nodded his head and looked down. Not knowing what to type into his phone so he could communicate. Yet, nothing came to him. "Jungkook, so.. Are you hungry? Got anything in mind to talk about?"

Jungkook shook his head and kept looking around. Jimin then locked his phone and gently tapped his fingertips along each other and felt like he was talking to a newborn baby who just looks around and stares at everything. Jimin had to force himself to start a conversation.

"I hope you are good at finding evidence. You may not be able to communicate, but you better be at the top of your game. There's a killer on the loose and we assume the killer is a she. 'She sounds feminine' is what they describe her voice so we go by that. Very soon, we'll check surveillance cameras around the area witnesses found her in." Jimin said as Jungkook nodded his head while listening to Jimin. "I'm very serious about work and you should too. It's all about justice... But at times I do it to prove I'm good enough to do things on my own." Jimin bragged as Jungkook started to type again.

"You're right. I don't like it so I do that a lot. I say I'm a strict guy but I'm just nice. Ah, if only you could talk so we can communicate better. I need to be able to get quick answers. No offence."

"Oh.. No problem. Hey, if you need anything. Let me know. I need to head over to my office. Namjoon must have sent me things to review over." Jimin claimed as he stood up but Jungkook titled his head and mouthed the words 'office' but he looked more confused. "Is there something wrong?"

"Of course! Come on." Jimin said as Jungkook placed his phone down and wrapped the blanket around his body while he tagged along and followed the older. They walked down the hall of Jimin's house and turned towards the end of the hall and into a big room. As soon as they stepped in, they were greeted by the office with a pile of papers on top of the wooden desk that carried a PC, secret files, pencils and extra paper while there was also Polaroid pictures just hung up around the room and pasted along the walls. Some were evidence of crime scenes while others were pictures of Jimin and his friends.

Jungkook looked around and stepped in to see the big office room. There was white carpeted floors, dark blue colored walls, window blinds assisted with red curtains and many file cabinets. "This used to belong to my father... I can see you don't have your phone with you so I will fill you in on that too." Jimin stated and stepped in to close the door behind him and switch the lights on from the ceiling fan above. "My Father was the Chief but then he transferred to Seoul and left everything to me. It's such a big responsibility. I'm honored to take in such a task... However, it takes guts." Jimin advised the younger and watched how Jungkook walked over to the Polaroid pictures on the wall.

The boy pointed to them and watched how Jimin took pictures of him and his friends, he could see police officers, Namjoon working as dispatch and many other people at the station. "Yes, those are the people who work there. You'll fit right in." Jimin advised the younger as he kept walking around. Jimin allowed the boy to look around as he sat down at his desk to turn on his computer and check his e-mail for anything. "I know what you're thinking, I should take a break... But I can't. Not when I know there's someone out there. Ah, I know.. It's stupid.." Jimin said, But Jungkook wasn't listening. He was busy looking at the many Polaroid pictures of Jimin taken like photoshoots.

"Of course... The boy can't listen now." Jimin said in his head while he looked through his e-mail to see nothing was sent to him at all. "Nothing... Nothing to work with. How annoying. But when I'm sleeping, Dispatch just loves to send me things. Ah, RM is something isn't he? But don't worry. He's not mean. He's nice and smart. You'll get along with him well." Jimin told the boy while Jungkook kept smiling at the many pictures on the wall. "Hey! Am I having a one-sided conversation?"

Jungkook then flinched and shook his head while pointing to his ear. Showing that he was listening. This made Jimin look down onto his computer again and sigh. "This is boring... I'm only talking to myself." Jimin continued to complain about Jungkook not being able to communicate to himself. The boy meant well, but there was many things he couldn't do that limited him from being such a good detective. Without even realizing it, Jimin felt like he needed someone else as a partner instead of one that lacked communication.

Later on, the rain didn't seem to clear up, there was gentle sprinkles of rain before it turned into harsh rain. This alone made Jimin realize he'll have to let the boy stay over for the night and head to work together. It was enough that he had to work with the boy but, stay under the same roof? There was nothing wrong with that... But to Jimin, he came up with many excuses that seemed too far-fetched to even meet reality! He thought, what if the killer broke in and Jimin can't hear the boy getting murdered? What if Jungkook takes a bath and suddenly drowns? Jimin thought of these but when he looked back at the handsome and silent boy, he would feel bad about thinking like this so Jungkook wouldn't stay.

"He'll be my partner whether I like it or not..." Jimin mumbled. Trying to warm up to the boy. Jimin then walked into an empty room that only had a bed with blue covers that used to belong to him before his family moved out. "Jungkook! Come here!" Jimin called out as the younger came running into the room to get a good look. By now, the boy was wearing his black sleeved shirt that he wore under his coat, he also had on his pants and white socks. The clothes were dry, warm and it carried such a good scent of lilac, the younger couldn't even stop placing his sleeve over his nose to catch the scent again and again.

"This is where you will stay for the night. Don't be afraid to message me anything. Understand?" Jimin asked as Jungkook nodded his head with a smile and sat down on the bed. "Tomorrow I'll wake you up to take you to your place so you can get ready for the first day. This is very important for you so you should get some rest." Jimin told the boy while he gazed at the boy once more. "You can't sleep in those... Do you want to borrow something from me?" Jimin wondered as Jungkook nodded his head. Watching the older leave the room to get him sleep attire for the night.

Jimin returned to Jungkook after and handed him a loose white T-shirt, loose grey pajama bottoms and a white pillow to supply the younger with things to sleep with. "Goodnight. I am just across the hall if you need me. My door will be locked, knock if you need me or send me messages to wake me up." Jimin advised Jungkook carefully so the boy could know what to do if he feels a little uncomfortable.

That night, Jimin fell asleep holding his phone and setting it loud to hear any notification that comes to his phone when Jungkook sends a message. For the whole night, there was no messages Jungkook sent at all to catch the man's attention. The only sounds that could be heard outside was nothing but the heavy storm that struck all night. Lightning filled the room with light for a split second before thunder clashed. Jimin fell asleep before the thunder struck once more so he wouldn't stay up all night from the loud noise.

While Jimin was asleep, he didn't hear that the young detective made his way inside the locked room and was peering over him. Jungkook stood there by the side of Jimin's bed, holding his phone in one hand while his other remained against his thigh. He was as still as a statue while the lightning flashed and filled the room to show, Jungkook was still holding a blank and still face while watching Jimin sleep for the night.
