Chapter 19: Lips sealed

"Jungkook?" Jimin called out as he started to make his way to the kitchen when suddenly, Officer Riyu stepped out and made a smile at Jimin. "Sehiro, what's taking the both of you so long?" Jimin wondered while the Officer turned Jimin around and started to place his arms around Jimin to walk him out of the house.

"Jungkook had the stove set on a low temperature so I had to help him on that." The officer lied as Jimin looked back and stopped. "Have you asked questions?"

"No... Hey, I-I'll just check if he's okay!" Jimin stated while the officer tilted his head.

"Chief, this isn't time for friendship bracelets and holding hands. This is an investigation. Not a playground. Let's get back to the questioning." The man claimed while Jimin blinked his eyes and nodded his head after.

"Yes... Yes. But I could've sworn I heard a sniffle coming from the kitchen once you stepped out... What did you tell him?" Jimin asked in worry as he was ready to stop and run over to the kitchen.

"Nothing. I told him nothing. Jimin, let's get back to the investigation. Stop trying to baby him. He's a man and even if he was crying, what would you do? Cradle him to sleep and warm his bottle? Don't baby him and treat him like that or else he'll get too close. Don't let your guard down when it comes to someone you just met." Sehiro advised while Jimin wanted to tell his friend that Jungkook was way more than someone he just met.

The Chief felt like he was closer to Jungkook, even if they were slowly getting to understand one another, Jimin knew this was great progress because no one could get close to someone who could never communicate. Not as close as they were with each other. Yet, the Chief didn't argue with his close friend only because he knew that deep down, Officer Riyu was right. Sehiro told the younger that he couldn't baby Jungkook and let his guard down at all towards Jungkook and he was right. Jimin was still paranoid but towards Jungkook? He saw a happy and very smart individual who was always stepped over by the rest. Just like him. It was enough for Jimin to empathize the detective. On the other hand, he knew that he couldn't baby Jeon Jungkook any further.

Jimin walked back outside with Officer Riyu and went to question the woman as she refused to answer until she had her cup of tea for the day. Only after a few minutes, Jungkook finally walked out of the house with a blank face as he handed the woman her cup of tea with both of his hands in respect.

"T-Thank you..." The woman said as she cooled the tea down and took a sip of it while Jungkook went to sit far from Jimin since Officer Riyu was sitting right next to Jimin. Jimin smiled and looked at the younger while he handed Jungkook his notepad to take down notes for the investigation. However, the boy didn't return the smile to Jimin and just avoided eye contact with his Chief and the Chief's pet, Sehiro. "You said I wouldn't get in trouble if I told..." Whispered the woman as Jimin nodded his head.

"Please tell us." Jimin said as Jungkook had to pick up on what they were talking about just so he could understand.

"My husband and I... Were going through debt. It was tough since I stayed at home to take care of our son at times... But I had to send him off to his older sister so I could work secretly. She's watching over him and he has yet to know. So I used to be a stay-at-home mother for my son. That was before I began my own job. I adopted him not so long ago but my daughter is actually mine. It was tough living for us... So, my husband went off to talk to a loan shark and a gang..." The woman claimed as Jungkook wrote it down. "I don't know which one... There are so many here. He only told me everything was going to be fine from now on but I never knew the name of the gang." Sighed the woman and looked down at the ground in silence.

"So you were coming back from a night shift, knowing that your deaf husband was alone, did you have anyone check up on him?" Jimin asked. But the woman shook her head.

"He was all alone... Since he was close to the gang members, they must have been the ones that visited him that morning. I've never seen them once... It was only him who they came for. Never me." Mrs. Wong continued as Jungkook wrote down everything.

"So you've never seen anyone's face at all... No gang members?" Jimin countinued to ask. But the woman denied any further and let out a sigh.

"No... He kept that buisness to himself. All he wanted me to worry about was to take care of our son and ignore the strings being pulled under."

"Alright, but before we move to the residents in this neighborhood, answer me this..." Officer Riyu claimed as the woman nodded her head. "Before you go to work, do you drop your son off at your daughter's house? Why...? Don't you trust your husband to be around your son?" Sehiro asked as Jimin began to realize what this was.

"Did you... Fear him?" Jimin added onto it as the woman cleared her throat before taking another sip of the tea.

"My husband was deaf... I couldn't leave my five-year old son with him since he told me about a gang or a loan shark he was in contact with. I knew that they would take his life if he was delayed when it comes to money and paying them back. I just had to work. I didn't fear him... I feared him getting killed by that gang or that loan shark alone. I don't know who got to him first but I'm sure it was the gang. It had to be them..." Mrs. Wong claimed as Jimin looked over at Jungkook.

"Did you get that, Detective Jeon?" Jimin asked and yet again, Jungkook nodded his head without making eye contact with anyone. The woman gazed at the younger and looked at him with concern.

"This is unrelated but... I'm sorry I didn't think you were a detective. I was upset yesterday." Apologized Mrs. Wong as she looked at Jimin. "Do you know how he became mute?"

Jimin looked at Jungkook and awaited the boy to give him a sign in order to tell, but the boy only nodded. Allowing Jimin to speak. Hopefully trying to let the Officer know what he went through and he was no different towards anyone else. "Well, he was attacked by a group of gang members... He almost died that night but he lived. Yet, they struck him too hard to the point where he couldn't speak any more. This was in Seoul. Five years ago." Jimin claimed while Jungkook looked up at the woman.

"So that's why you became a detective... That's nice." Said the woman as she looked at her cup of tea. "Is this investigation over?"

"Yes. We have enough to move on to the neighbors and then start tracking the gang. Of course, that's if we are given a bit more information on them in order to find them." Sehiro claimed and stood up. "Thank you for your time."

Jungkook glared at the officer and thought that this man suddenly started to take his spot in performing his own detective work... Since when did an officer think he could become a detective? He wasn't certified on this and neither was Jimin, yet they still took over like Jungkook wasn't there. The three then left the house and went door to door to interview anyone if they knew about the murder or either a gang, yet they knew nothing and this only made their jobs even harder.

Towards the end of the day, Jimin sat on his office chair as he practiced the alphabet along with phrases in sign language and whispered the words to himself as he made the signs. Just then, Jungkook walked in with Namjoon right by his side.  However, Jungkook walked into the room as he only walked to his office desk. Avoiding the Chief as the dispatcher folded his arms and looked at Jimin with a smile. "Studying sign language? Ah, this is so great! So, Jungkook has been telling me that the both of you would be tracking down a gang."

"Yes we will. We just need to find more about the gang... Well, we can't be too sure. Mrs. Wong told us there was also a Loan shark." Jimin said while Namjoon nodded his head and slowly approached Jimin to take a piece of paper and secretly write to the Chief. Then, Jimin slowly turned his head to point towards what Namjoon was writing.

'Why do you let Officer Riyu treat your detective like this?' Namjoon wrote as Jimin looked over at Jungkook who was getting ready to leave for the day now.

"I'll talk to him..." Jimin whispered to the dispatcher while Namjoon respected the Chief's words as he walked out of the room and left the two alone. "Jungkook..." Jimin called out as Jungkook stopped and held up his phone. Ready to communicate with Jimin on what ever he had to say. Once Namjoon left the room, Jimin walked over to Jungkook and tapped his shoulder to get his attention.

"What did Sehiro do? What are you not telling me?" Jimin asked as Jungkook let out a sigh and kept his back shunned on Jimin. "You communicate with RM... But not me..."

Jimin took a look at the text messages and sucked his teeth as he turned the boy around to look at him. "I'll always trust you, Jungkook! Tell me... If Sehiro is bothering you... I will do something! You are my detective... You should be close to me. We are in this together."

"Jungkook... I-I don't know what you are talking about! I would never lie to you about this. I told you being mute doesn't bother me at all. It used to but now I understand you! I won't lie to you about this... Please, don't believe what he tells you. He's just jealous. You're my favorite and how could I lie to you about that? All I want to do is protect you, Jungkook." Jimin said. He felt like he found himself repeating his words to Jungkook to get the boy to understand.

It wasn't Jungkook's fault he was in denial over this. It was the Officer he allowed in his mind to listen to. Sehiro was close friends with Jimin and only went with what Sehiro told him because at the end of the day, Jungkook just didn't know Jimin as much as Sehiro did and this alone aggravated him in so many ways. "I didn't mean it like that... I would never lie to you. I only did this to protect you from everyone... Everyone who wants to hurt you." Jimin claimed when suddenly, Jungkook brought up his phone to text again, Jimin set the phone down and pulled him into a close hug.

"Don't listen to anyone other than me... Because... They don't know that I'd choose you at the end of the day to protect and I promise you that. I'd always protect you..." Whispered the Chief to Jungkook. He knew he shouldn't ever baby the detective like this... But how could he not? Jimin felt something for Jeon Jungkook. The need to protect him grew and as for Jungkook, his love grew just for the older who held him in his embrace. Silencing Jungkook's thoughts and leaving him to feel warm and blush in the arms of his boss.
