Chapter 16: What's between us
The very next morning, Jimin woke up and let out a sigh as he cupped his face and rubbed his eyes in exhaustion. First, he couldn't get much sleep because the thought of kissing Jungkook still flew around in his mind and now, he woke up with the slightest pain in his head. He was use to drinking but sometimes he alone would over do his drinking time to time and cause this to himself.
Jimin was about to sit up when he realized... Jungkook was resting his head over Jimin's chest and hugging him after. This caused the man to flinch and gaze at the younger who hugged him closely while they rested. "Jungkook... H-How did he get here? I thought he would've stayed in the other room!" Jimin thought and tried to move the boy again to place him down right by him, but just then, Jungkook let out a short and silent pushed groan that he managed to make as he then climbed over Jimin and laid his body on the Chief. Refusing to get off.
The man exhaled as he felt Jungkook curl up over his body and let out a huff. "Jungkook." Jimin called up and decided this was too much! They needed to interview the people around the area and of course, have the cases split and given to other teams to investigate since Jimin would only need to focus on the current one. "Get up! Jungkook!" Jimin rose his voice while Jungkook groaned very silently. But making just the slightest sound took too much work for him.
Jimin then tried to shove the boy off, but just then, the silent prince slowly opened his eyes and this made Jimin stop and remain silent. Jungkook locked eye contact with Jimin and suddenly began to blush from the embarrassment. He quickly got off of the older and gulped as he noticed he himself wasn't even wearing a shirt. All of his buttons were undone and he could only panic about what could've happened last night.
"Calm down, Jungkook... We didn't do anything." Jimin lied to the boy. Hiding the fact that their lips touched that night. Jungkook then started to button up his dress shirt and shake his head. Looking back at Jimin before standing up. "What? What is it...?" Jimin asked as he sat up on the bed and placed his hands back to hold himself up. Watching Jungkook point to his lips and then back at Jimin. "Y-Yes I kissed you... I'm sorry... But that was it!" Jimin claimed. Surprised the younger could remember that and only that. Jimin hoped the boy didn't and could have dropped it the next day... Yet, he held onto the thought. Showing how much it really meant to him.
"Just drop it, okay? It was just a little kiss... Didn't really have to mean anything! I can't have anything with you and you'll understand when you know that it's just too dangerous." Jimin stated and got out of bed as he walked out of the room, but Jungkook followed. "There's a bathroom. Go. I'll use the one in my room." Jimin stated, but Jungkook still followed Jimin. The man never wanted to hear Jungkook's say in the kiss. Just assuming the boy could accept and bury this moment away. He too was surprised that the kiss was the first thing on his mind.
"I need to get ready. You should do the same too." Jimin told the younger as he closed the door on Jungkook. Leaving the boy to silently place his fist over the wood and gently bang his fist on Jimin's door. Wanting in so he could talk to Jimin about this. But the man just assumed that Jungkook wouldn't want anything to do with the kiss too when deep down, he really hoped for it.
Jungkook eventually had to go get ready for his day as Jimin stood in the shower. Thinking of the way Jungkook stood by the door and kept knocking and knocking until he finally stopped. "Ugh... I know he wants to talk about it... But I don't. We shouldn't.. We're better as friends and he knows that... Right? I won't give him the chance to even text me about it." Jimin told himself whole the older only resumed washing up for his day at work again.
As soon as he changed into his formal wear for work, Jimin stepped in front of the mirror, wearing a black dress shirt tucked into his black slacks that matched with his full black attire of classic shoes for work and a black tie as well. The man brushed his dirty blond hair back and walked out of the room as he fixed the cuffs of his sleeves. Jimin had a good scent of cologne, a clear face for the day and determination to go and bring on questions to the people who were around during the murder of the man. The Chief stepped out and grabbed his briefcase from his office and made sure he didn't leave the book or the journal behind to learn sign language on his time off.
Jimin stepped down the stairs and just then, he noticed Jungkook was in the kitchen. The boy wore a striped dark blue and white dress shirt he didn't bother to tuck in to his black pants and white shoes. Not really looking as professional as Jimin. The young detective was sitting on the counter and eating an egg sandwich with melted cheese, crispy bacon, and a hot cooked fried egg in between the toasted bread. Jungkook also had a cup of coffee by his side and as soon as Jimin stepped in, Jungkook's eyes lit up with glee as he waved happily and pointed to the plate that sat accross the counter. Showing that he did make sure to make Jimin one as well along with coffee too.
"You don't really like looking professional to work... Don't you?" Jimin asked as Jungkook smiled and shook his head. Still pointing to the breakfast sandwich and coffee he made for Park Jimin. "Oh thank you." Jimin stated as Jungkook watched how Jimin took a bite out of the sandwich. Showing that he wasn't going to hesitate on taking what ever Jungkook gave him now. This made the boy grow happy as always. Knowing before, Jimin didn't really want to accept anything Jungkook gave him, but now, he trusted him.
"Jungkook, let's be quick to get to the station. We need to know at what time those people will be able to make time for us." Jimin mentioned as Jungkook got off the counter and still took a bite of the sandwhich and washed it down with hot coffee he cooled down before taking a sip out of it. "Does your head still hurt? I have pills for that... Do you need them? One can help with sleep and the other with headaches." Jimin insisted but Jungkook refused and continued to drink out of his coffee until Jimin was done with breakfast.
After a good ten minutes after, the two walked out of the house and got in the car and drove off to the station. Jungkook looked out the bulletproof windows of Jimin's car and tapped on it gently as he looked over at Jimin upfront. Snapping his fingers to get his attention to point to the windows. "Oh! Yes I have bulletproof glass for my car. I feel very paranoid a criminal could be out to get me... It's so common that they used to break in to my house or even try to break through the windows of my car! It's very off how they suddenly stopped doing this. It raises some questions, but I tend to brush it off. I just don't drop my guard. All in all, I need these types of glass to protect me." Jimin claimed as Jungkook nodded his head and laid back on the seat.
Along the way to work, Jungkook thought back at the kiss. How could he forget it? This was the best feeling he could ever receive. It was such a shame that he couldn't bring it up anymore because to Jimin, it was just a kiss with no meaning. Jungkook understood that this was the way Jimin acted like. He feared many things and focused on his job. Not wanting to give away precious time to show Jungkook love in any way. Jimin focused on work and that was what Jungkook had to understand. On the other hand, the silent prince loved looking back at the kiss and only wondered, what else could there be in store for them if they remained kissing last night?
The two reached the station after. Jungkook ran behind Jimin to walk by his side. Out of everything, this was something he loved to do. Walking by Jimin and gaining stares from officers. The duo walked by eachother side by side as Jimin talked to Jungkook about having to interview people around the area of the house and most importantly the wife who suffered by looking at the gruesome sight.
"So, today we should interview the wife first to get family out of the way. In order for us to devote our time to this case... We'll have to give in the other cases to other teams as we focus on this one. It's just too much to carry now." Jimin stated while Jungkook nodded his head and listened to Jimin's words. "But... I think we can still work on the one of the elder getting murdered in the alley. That's if we can get this one done and then, if that case is still open, we can still jump to that one." Jimin stated while Jungkook began to think on a solution that'll mean the two can work on the cases at the same time without having to ditch the murder one with the footage they managed to take.
Of course, they chose to work on the murder cases while the others would be handed off to the other team so they could solve it. This alone made the job a lot more easier. "Let's hurry up and get to the office. We have so much to talk about-" just then, Officer Riyu approached the Chief with a serious look on his face.
"Chief Park, I need to have a word with you about our case.." The man said while Jimin looked up and nodded his head. "Without Jungkook. You are the Chief so I can tell you."
"Well... He's a detective so he needs to know. He's behind the case too!" Jimin replied while Jungkook looked at Officer Riyu in confusion. What did he suddenly want to get Jimin alone and far from the detective if they worked on the same case? There was something off about this officer. He didn't really seem to like Namjoon and now, Jungkook picked up the feeling that Officer Riyu wasn't very fond of Jungkook either. It was Namjoon and Jungkook who Jimin was close to. Not as often as the officer.
"I know what he is, but I need to talk to you. Privately and it's not only about the case." The man claimed. Making Jimin look back at Jungkook and hold his hand up to make him wait.
"I'll be right back. Just wait outside the office." Jimin claimed as Officer Riyu glared at the younger while Jimin walked off. Not following after until he made the silent prince uncomfortable through his gaze. Jungkook just couldn't seem to understand. How could the officer hate him already?
