"I'm everything you can't control."

C H A P T E R 2 2

L U C I A N A

The three of them looked at me with shocked expressions. After a moment of silence, they began shouting at me.

"Are you crazy?!"

"What! Why?"

"Really?! I'm so excited!"

The last one was from Alex. That boy was never going to grow up.

I waited until they were finished and explained my theory about Miranda being innocent. Nathan already knew what I thought, but I felt like he was not completely convinced.

"But what if Miranda is not innocent, then what?" Alex asked.

"Then we execute her for them." I said.

Amber raised her hand. "How are we going to break her out of here exactly?"

"I have a plan."

"Luce?"

I looked up from my desk and saw Cole and Zachary standing in the doorway of my bedroom, holding the door open. I shut the book in front of me and stand.

"How can I help you?" I gave the guys a small smile.

Zachary spoke up. "We had a question and were wondering if you could answer it."

"Sure, come in." I wave them inside.

"So, what is it?" I folded my arms and glanced at my watch, I still had a little time to start on my part in the plan, I could spare a few minutes for them.

They glanced at each other nervously and finally Cole blurted out. "Can we still go on a mission with you even if we aren't in the top two?"

I gave out a little chuckle, of course this would be what they were worried about. "Actually, these rules are new and I'm not familiar with them," they looked disappointed so I continued. "But I will ask David about it and let you guys know."

They nodded slowly and walked to the door. Cole was already out the door when Zachary turned and asked. "Why was training cancelled today?"

I put a causal expression on my face. "I thought giving you guys a day off was a good idea, do you not want to be free of one day?"

He started to say something but stopped himself when the lights went off.

Amber had started on her part.

"Why did that happen?" Cole asked.

I shrugged. "Maybe they had a problem with one of the generators."

He nodded and both of them walked out, shutting the door behind them.

The lights come up again, blinked and went off. I smiled, the plan was going perfectly.

Now I needed to start on my part.

Distracting Kaden.

As much as I didn't want that part, the others had their own parts to play so unfortunately, I was the one that ended up with Kaden.

I put on a jacket and walked out, looking for Kaden.

I found him coming out of his room and ran up to him.

He looked surprised. "What are you doing here?"

I shifted my footing and looked up at him, trying to seem nervous. "I thought it would be better if we became friends since we're living under the same roof now."

He looked me up and down. "Are you okay? I think you hit your head somewhere because the Luciana Crest I know would never talk to me in a civilized manner, at least not willingly."

I rolled my eyes. "You're right, not about me getting hit on the head but about me hating you."

"Hey! I didn't say hate! I simply meant that you couldn't talk to me without being forced to. Do you hate me?" 

What you don't know, dear Kaden, is that I'm being forced to talk to you right now.

"I'll decide later. I'm going to the shooting range, wanna join?" I took a step back.

"Go to a soundproof room that's full of guns with you, are you going to kill me there?"

"Depends on whether or not you annoy me."

"I'll be on my best behavior, m'lady." he gave me a two finger salute.

"Come on, then." I started walking.

"I heard you cancelled the training session today. Scared to train the recruits in front of me?"

I snorted. "You wish, I just wanted a day off."

"Are you seriously okay? You're going to actually spend your free day with me?" he touched my forehead, attempting to check my temperature.

I slapped his hand away and sighed in defeat. "Nathan is mad at me and seeing as you were one of his close friends, I thought if I warmed up to you then Nate wouldn't be so mad at me."

"Ahh, there you go. Now I get it." 

The door to the training room was about ten meters in front of us when Kaden looked at me. "Race you to the door?"

"Get ready to lose."

And we took off running to the door.

I felt my phone buzz in my pocket and I put the gun down. It was Alex.

I'm done here. It's all set up.

I texted back, Amber and I are done too, we just have to wait now.

Kaden looked at my phone. "Who's that? Your secret boyfriend?"

I put it in my pocket. "Maybe. Why? Are you jealous?"

He just shook his head and continued to shoot.

"Listen I gotta go, you can continue."

He nodded, not bothering to look at me, and loaded another magazine into his gun. I picked my gun up, put it in my holster and make my way out of the door.

The lights went out again.

Come on Amber, one more time and then your first part will be done.

I walked to my bedroom and saw Nathan on the bed. He was laying on his back, with one arm under his head and the other arm on his chest, staring at the ceiling.

I walked in and shut the door. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm alright. Do you know why I can leave or get back as I please?" he asked, not looking at me.

"No, you never told me." I sat next to him and took his hand that was on his chest and placed it on my lap.

"After you left, I couldn't deal with it, I just couldn't. When anyone came to talk to me or when I just saw Alex or anyone that you were close to, I blacked out. David told me that I almost choked Alex to death one time. We decided it would be better if I go out every time I felt like going crazy. It started out as little trips to the bar and ended with weeks there. It took a while but I'm okay now. One nice thing is that I built my tolerance up pretty high." he smiled a little as he finished.

I dropped his hand and got up. "I can't tell you how sorry I am Nate."

He propped himself up on his elbow and pulled me back to the bed. "That's fine, just don't make me go through that again. Promise?"

I lied down beside him. "I promise."

We stayed like that for a few hours and my alarm rang indicating that it was midnight.

We must have been sleeping when the lights went out again.

I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and shook Nathan. "Wake up Nate, we have to go."

I washed my face and wet a towel. I tossed the wet towel to Nathan and he smiled. "You remember."

"How can I forget the number of times I have wet towels for you?" I smirked.

There was a knock on the door. I turned and saw Alex come in.

I didn't know why I even bother to keep a door, people just tend to walk in without being invited.

Alex had a mischievous smile on his face. "Shall we get started?"
