Up In Flames

(Alice's POV)

I felt arms carrying me, then a bed beneath me. Was I dead? I could hear voices, but I couldn't make out who was talking, or understand what they were saying. My heart was racing. I didn't know what was happening. All I wanted to do is open my eyes, but I couldn't. I couldn't even move. All of a sudden, I felt someone wiping off my face, which was probably the blood from my nose bleed.

"She needs to feed," A familiar frustrated voice said.

"There's too much going on right now," Another familiar voice said.

"How's Ali and Rain?" Another voice asked.

"Ali is fine, she was able to protect them as much as she could. Rain is hurt, but she is healing," A voice said.

"Let's worry about one thing at a time. For now, let's get Alice fed and awake," A man said.

I knew exactly who it was. His voice sent a warmth through my cold body. It was my Tate.

"Tate, don't you think you're wounds need healed?" A girls voice said.

Hearing her voice made my heart beat settle. I was so glad to hear she was okay.

"I'm not leaving her," Tate said.

"We will stay with her. There's a few things we need to talk to her about," A man's voice said.

"Are you sure?" Anna asked.

"She needs to know," A women's voice said.

Know what?

"Are you sure she is ready?" Tate asked.

Ready for what?

"I guess we will find out. Now, go on and get yourself healed," The man said.

I heard the door shut, and footsteps walking towards me. Just then, the sound of a knife being unsheathed rung in my ears. In that moment, I wanted to scream. I didn't know what was happening, or who these people where. Why did they have a knife?

I got my answer, when I felt drops of warm liquid hitting my lips. The sweet tasting, pure liquid, seeped through my teeth and onto my tongue. I could feel my strength slowly regaining. It was enough to allow me to be able to part my lips, and open my mouth slightly. The blood kept flowing into my mouth, and I didn't want it to stop. I went to grab for a hand, but ended up finding two hands. I was confused.

Slowly, I opened my sensitive eyes. Two blurry figures stood before me. Slowly my vision became better. I was shocked to see their faces. It was Emrick and Tara. We were in Tate's room.

"What..." I asked in a weak voice.

Tara put a finger up to her lips.

"Feed," She said as she nodded her head.

I grabbed both of their wrist and pulled them close to my mouth, drinking vigorously. The more I drank, the less I wanted to stop. I felt so strong. More strong than I did with human blood, stronger than the blood of a hybrid. Then again, I was drinking blood from two powerful Immortals.

"Feel better?" Emrick asked when I forced my self to stop feeding from them.

"Much better... Thank you, both of you," I said as I tried to sit up.

"Woah, don't get up so soon. There's something we need to talk about," Tara said as she put a hand on my shoulder.

When her skin touched mine, I could feel a tingling sensation. I pulled away, because it felt strange. Just then I thought of the conversation they were having while I was unconscious. My heart began to race as I thought about the battle, the babies, and blacking out.

"What happened during the battle after I blacked out?" I asked.

"Well... After you blacked out Tate rushed to your side. Anna managed to kill the vampire that had a hold of her neck. Ceciellia and the other witches sustained minor injuries, but Cora had a spell put on her that took away her powers. She can still do potions and cast spells, but her ability is gone," Tara said before looking at Emrick.

"Luna, her family, Caleb, and two of his friends made it home safe. They plan to give David a proper burial. Tate, Anna, Alex, and Rain are all in the healing process right now," Emrick said.

"What about Kane?" I asked.

"We believe he is dead, but we are unsure," Tara said nervously.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"When Alex stabbed him, he just evaporated, vanished. After that, what was left of the hybrids and other creatures, had fled the scene," Emrick said.

"Where are the babies?" I asked.

There was a moment of silence.

"What happened?" I asked getting frustrated.

"They were only able to protect the one child. Which is why Rain was so badly hurt," Tara said.

"How? Who found them?" I asked.

Another moment of silence.

"Tell me," I said.

"Sophia," Emrick said.

"I knew I shouldn't have saved her. I'm so stupid," I said I punched the wall beside me.

"You're far from stupid Alice," Tara said as she touched my face.

It sent the same tingling sensation through my face.

"Which baby did they take?" I asked.

"The girl," Emrick said.

"Of course... They must know what she is capable of. I have to see the boy," I said as I tried to stand up.

"There's one more thing we want to talk to you about," Emrick said as he put a hand on my shoulder forcing me to sit back down.

"Can't it wait?" I asked.

"Not really," Tara said as she sat down next to me.

"Is it about me and Tate?" I asked.

I couldn't help but to ask that, because this whole battle was about the mixing of different creatures. It made me think that Tate and I wouldn't be allowed together, because he is a hybrid of a werewolf and a warlock, and I'm a vampire.

"No, nothing of the sort," Emrick said as he shook his head.

"It's about where you came from," Tara said.

"What do you mean? I was born and raised here, by my mother. She died because of me. So, don't tell me I don't know where I came from," I said as I tried to get up.

"Sit!" Emrick said.

His voice alarmed me, and I obeyed like a dog. It must be his ability of mind control.

"That woman wasn't your mother, Alice. Her baby died, after she gave birth. When the doctors weren't paying attention, you were switched with the dead baby. You took the baby's place. The doctor's were surprised to turn around and see you opening and closing your eyes and moving. They checked for a heart beat just to be sure. You had an incredible heart beat. You didn't cry because you were cursed to live as a banshee. Her baby didn't cry because it was dead," Tara explained.

I stared blankly at the floor. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The tears swelled in my eyes, my heart and brain was racing, and it became difficult to breath.

"We seen the way she held you, and knew we made the right choice," Emrick said.

"We? Made the right choice?" I asked.

"Alice... What we are trying to say is... At the time you were conceived, it wasn't safe for you. No child has ever been created by two Immortals. You were the first. You have strong blood lines running through your veins. That's why we tried to protect you so much during the battle. We had been watching you from a distance for a while now. Even though it was against the rules to leave our safe place. We felt so bad, not being there for you while you were growing up. There was so much we wanted to teach you," Tara said as she wiped away a tear that escaped her eye.

"You're my... She wasn't... I killed..." I said but couldn't finish my sentences.

I was in so much shock. Overwhelmed with confusion. Confused about who I was, my life, everything.

"Alice," Emrick said.

"No... Don't..." I said as I stood up.

I pushed past them, leaving Tate's room. As I walked past everyone in the living room, I ignored them calling my name. I walked out of the libraries front door, and headed for the woods. If I were to run far into the woods, I would come to the road that leads to the mansion. So, I ran and didn't stop.

The branches of trees whipping in my face as I run stung, but not as bad as the tears that were stinging my eyes. I was so furious and confused. Unsure of what to think or say. I just wanted to disappear forever. Everything I knew had been nothing but lies.

I stopped running, when I was at the front steps of the mansion. After taking a deep breath, I decided to enter through the mansions front door. I made sure to check every floor, to see if anyone was there. It was all clear, except for the dead bodies. I went back out to the stairs, and sat on the same steps I thought I'd met my end on.

My mind was flooded with so many thoughts and memories. I just wanted it to stop. My anger just kept building up inside of me, until I couldn't take it anymore. I let out a screechy scream. It was loud and echoed throughout the mansion. Although, it was nothing compared to what my banshee cry sounded like.

It felt so good to scream and let out all that anger. That's when it hit me. A plan to put all of this behind me. I went to the basement, where the cells and storage room were, and found what I was looking for. In the room was jugs filled with gas, which was used for the gas pipes and heater.

I picked up two, and carried them upstairs. After sitting them down on the stairs, I picked up one jug and poured some onto the basement steps then led a trail to the stairs. Then made my way into the dining room. I poured gas on all of the dead bodies and the dusty, bloody, cobweb covered tables.

I threw the empty gas jug to the side, and made my way back to the stairs. After picking up two more jugs, I walked up the stairs. Pouring a trail of gas down the hall way, and  even splashed some on the doors and floors of the rooms. The last room I approached was Kane's.

Above the door was an outline of where his picture used to hang. I poured the rest of the gas in his room, mainly on his bed and in his old closet. In an open drawer, I found his old zippo lighter. The same one he'd use to make his ring hot in order to burn Rain and his other slaves.

I grabbed it, then walked down the stairs. Taking one last look at the unbearable sight, before walking outside to the front steps. I took a deep breath as I lit the Zippo, then threw it on the trail of gas. Taking a few steps back, as I watched it burn up in flames.
