A Twist in Fate

What if the NightWings never stepped in to save StarFlight?

Clay stood on the balcony overlooking the arena where Tsunami and StarFlight had been tasked on killing scavengers. They were covered in blood, leaking from their scales. They're fighting wasn't doing much good. No matter what they did, the scavengers were just right back on them the next second, going at them with their pointy claws. Clay was on the edge of his seat. FIGHT BACK STARFLIGHT!! Clay yelled at the NightWing in his head. He knew that StarFlight couldn't fight. Back in the cave under the mountain, he always had spent more time on studying then on fighting practice. Clay had always told StarFlight he needed to do more fighting training, just in case. StarFlight always gave some snarky remark in response, as always. Now, Clay missed those days dearly.

Suddenly a piercing shriek echoed out of one of the scavengers. Tsunami  wrapped her powerful talons around it's little body.  She ferociously pinned the creature to the ground, it's weak screams ringing out across sand. The crowd erupted into a mess of cheers and screams as it's yowling was cut short abruptly while Tsunami all-to-quickly squeezed the life out of the little being. The SeaWing looked down at her talons are scales, now covered in Scavenger blood and Gill's, the dragon she had killed earlier. In the height of the action, it seemed as if the fearless snarky, happy SeaWing Dragonet in Tsunami had ceased to exist. She looked as if she was a ruthless monster, killing whatever the Queen gave her to kill.

Instantly Clay felt a wave of shock as he began to understand what Peril was going though. All she had done for her whole life was kill, kill kill... and now watching Tsunami in the arena Clay realized how easy it was to lose yourself in this twisted form of entertainment. This... This genocide, for the enjoyment of the queen. Clay held in cry. He couldn't look weak. Not here, not now.

The MudWing dragonet suddenly left 10 sizes smaller. Clay watched as his friend turned her back to her little victim. He left himself curl up a little, his breathing getting irregular from stress.  This was all too much. Just in one day, everything was changing. NO...! Thought the little MudWing, pretty much all ounces of hope starting to fade from his brain. How were they ever going to escape this?!

Meanwhile, Burn gave Queen Scarlet a menacing scowl.

"What are you DOING SCARLET?!" The SandWing heir hissed beneath her breath. "Now all your little dragons LOVE HER MORE. You SHOULD hand just KILLED these dragonets the moment you found THEM." Her purly black eyes narrowed at the sky dragon. Burn lashed her tail, waving the poisonous weapon around Scarlet's back talons. She gave her a look that baltently said, If you don't get this in check, I'll kill them myself. and maybe you in the process.

"Don't worry, Your Majesty." Scarlet chortled to her ally, annoyed, waving her copper talon infront of her snout in a sassy manor. Tsunami was now helping battle StarFlight's scavenger, which wasn't going well. Just as Tsunami got a grip of the other scavenger, The Queen's voice rang out across the entire area.

"FELLOW SKYWINGS, ALLIED MUDWINGS, AND VISITING SANDWINGS!" Scarlet Shouted to her subjects. "I think it's about time we see this beautiful NightWing fight all by himself, don't you think?!"   The crowd erupted to positive cheering. Clay's mind froze in terror.  WHAT!? STARFLIGHT CAN'T FIGHT ALONE!! Without even thinking about it, Clay thrust his full force against the chain, while yelling at the Skywing Queen.

"NO! Throw me in there with him!! NOOOOO!" He shouted with all his might. He would much rather help his friend try to stay alive then watch his die from far away where he could do nothing to help. Yet these SkyWing guard were strong as heck. Clay felt defenseless, and about to watch one of his best friends me ripped to shreds.

Tsunami was dragged out of the stadium, lashing her powerful tail and fighting to escape the SkyWing's grip. However, It was practically impossible to do that, but it did seem as if the guards were struggling to hold her, and getting somewhat-badly hurt. Just fight a little bit harder Tsunami! Clay though with all his might, knowing he could do nothing to help.

Next thing Clay knew, He was looking at a terrified little StarFlight, all alone in the arena with talons dipped in blood.

"For our next event," Scarlet called out smuggly. "We will have our big, strong NightWing fight a real challenge!" Burn gave her a 'what is it now' look. The SkyWing went on. "We'll have our NightWing fight....ICEWINGS!" The crowd erupted into cheering again as Burn face quickly turned to that of pleasure. StarFlight sat there, his tail lashing from anxiety. Queen Scarlet was nearly erupting from her excitement. Clay's heart caught in his throat.

"Wow, Scarlet" Murmured Burn. "A good idea for once! Everyone knows the hatred these two tribes have for each other, an ancient hate inlaid in their souls since the beginning of time!" Burn seemed quite excited by this actually. Clay was NOT. A not-even-full grown NightWing against multiple full-sized IceWings!? How in the three moons was this fair?!

Clay watch in horror as 5 IceWing prisoners were brought out onto bloody sands. FIVE. StarFlight's eyes were full of a more intense fear. Clay had no idea how StarFlight was going to survive this. But... he had to! Didn't he!? He was the NightWing in the prophecy! The announcer, Vermillion, spoke up, and Clay forced his thoughts down so he could listen.

"My fellow dragons, meets our IceWing soldiers! Cryo,  Squall, Yak, Quartz, and Firn! These five we captured from a fight with Blazes army. They were someone of the most ferocious dragons from that battle, so let's see if our enchanting, mind-reading, future seeing dragonet can spill their blood and RIP OUT THERE HEARTS!" Vermillion called with disgusting pleasure. Violence seeped out of every red dragon here. In Clay's mind, all he could imagine was...No...No banish the thought. No, it will be fine.

A huge, cheering cry ripped though the stadium. Clay was left in his tracks. He could never imagine StarFlight, the silly, snarky, know-it-all doing something so evil. It made him sick to the stomach just thinking about it. Ripping one dragon's heart was bad enough, but 5!? Clay was frozen in horror.

The IceWings gathered around StarFlight in a circular shape. Then, Vermillion said the words that change everything.

"Claws up, Teeth ready... FIGHT!!" And With that, the IceWings were off. It all seemed to go much too quickly. Before anyone could say anything, the Ice Dragons where all over him, digging into his scales like paper. It was a horrible, terrible thing to watch. Within minutes, the IceWings were called off, for there job was already done. StarFlight had had no defence at all.

Once the IceWings were held back, what they had done was clear.

The defenceless NightWing lay motionless on the ground, drenched in blood. His scales were scattered along the ground, wings torn to shreds, horns chipped.

The crowd screamed louder than Clay had ever heard. Queen Scarlet and Burn were cheering as well. But Clay? Well, he just couldn't keep it in any longer. He was sobbing as tears flooded out of him. It- It just can't be.

StarFlight was dead.

Then, Burn finish it off with one statement.

"No more prophecy for our little continent. I guess it's just..... A Twist in Fate"
