Jungle child
{Location: A mysteries island found on no map}(A happy little girl's POV)
My feet are on the edge of a cliff with my hands covering my eyes, "One. Ready or not," I spin jump and start running into the huge jungle while cupping my hands, "HERE I COME!"
I slow down to a jog as I search the trees. Where is she? I pause at a crossroad. Mabey the entire island shouldn't be the area for a hide and seek game. I snap my fingers, I got an easier way to find my mommy. Our song. I squeeze the warm dirt between my toes then follows the path to my father's palace, "I've been staring at the edge of the water long as I can remember." I sprint past the gates and non-dirt paths. Back in the jungle, I climb a tree, seeing nothing but more greenery, "Never really knowing why." I grip a vine and use it like a rope to climb down.
I half glance at my watch, I'm supposed to be at my father's class now. I shake my head, it's play time right now. I mumble a new set of lyrics, "I wish I could be the perfect daughter but I come back to the water," mabey she's on the beach. I dash my way through the jungle until hot sand stings my bare feet, "No matter how hard I try."
Nothing.
Mabey we should have played Marco Polo.
I fold my arm before thinking about that mountain that mommy has her 'me' time at. "Every turn I take," Over a tree root, past some spiky plants, flip over a river. I bend over, cupping my hands for a sip, "Every trail I track," I hear a snap of a branch.
Mommy?
I shake my hands off as I run to the base of a small mountain with a beautiful waterfall, "Every path I make," I quickly find a path up while growing louder, "Every road leads back to the place I know where I can not go." I stop to look at a map. Shipping route to Ninjago.
I face west, picturing beautiful cities and amazing beaches, " Where I long to be. See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me!" I am a good swimmer. What's one ocean against an adventurous and brave little girl, "And no one knows how far it goes? If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me. One day I'll know. If I go there's just no telling how far I will go."
I turn back to the path. Where is she? I keep wandering around until I see father's palace. My heart grows heavy. I don't like him. Heck, I don't think I love him.
I'm just scared of him. "I know everybody on this island, seems so happy on this island. Everything is by design. I know everybody on this island has a role on this island. So maybe I can roll with mine." Leading angry disrespectful men on morally questionable missions. Mabey that's who I'm meant to be. "I can lead with pride, I can make us strong. I'll be satisfied if I play along," No. I don't like it here and I'm not like anyone else here. I grab my bright red hair in frustration, "But the voice inside sings a different song. What is wrong with me?"
I don't have much left to look here. Just a cave that can't be entered into. Behind me, an open door with pretty rocks shimmers with one having a more handcrafted shape. But mommy's not here. I turn around, glancing at the sea again, "See the light as is shines on the sea? It's Blinding! But no one knows, how deep it goes." I pick up a large palm leaf, wrap it around a wire a foot above my head, use it as a zip line down to my half made tree house.
It's more like a shack in the sky but it's a safe place that me, mommy and one of father's men with a plant name made into a safe haven. "And it seems like it's calling out to me."
"So come find me!" MOMMY! Her sweet voice is harsh as she throws away a walkie-talkie. She stomps and has an unhappy look on her face.
I hide in the tree as she uses her powers to run faster, "And let me know, what's beyond that line, will I cross that line?" I climb down my tree, jumping off the last few feet, "See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me! And no one knows how far it goes!" I squeeze the mud between my toes as I freeze in a running stance, "If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me. One day I'll know, how far I'll go," I want more than just this island. I want to see the rest of the world and have fun.
I want adventure.
To explore.
To find someone to do all of that with me.
"Gotchya!" Mommy grabs me in a hug.
I giggle as my stomach growls for her peanut butter sandwich, "I found you! You're it!"
"Mabey tomorrow, my princess," she picks me up, resting me on her hip, "I heard you singing our song."
"That's how you knew where I was, right?"
"Yes." she carries me to the palace as my feet drip in wet mud, "Mabey you need a singing lesson soon."
"Can that replace my math work?"
"Sorry." She opens a small gate as our tummies growl, "For now, let's get some dinner in you then it's bedtime."
"Aww." I frown. I want to stay awake, mostly to bug Clouse but mostly, who needs sleep.
Mom cradles my head as she sets me down, "Skylor."
"Fine." I follow her in. Hoping that father isn't feasting on strang foods toning. "Mommy, will I ever leave this island?"
"I think you and I will leave here sooner then you think." She kisses my head as I can hear father's loud angry screams, "Tomorrow at this time, you'll find new places to play in."
"How far will we go?"
"Who knows?" She smiles kindly but glances back at the door, "Who knows, my island princess."
