Chapter Twenty Three: Going Home

"What are you gonna do now, Ryoko?" Near asked. "That's a good question, Near. I guess I'll just go wherever the wind takes me, I guess," I turned around so I was facing him. "Too bad I couldn't stick around to get to know you." I said.

"I suppose. But at least I got to see what you look like." He said. "Not really. This isn't what I actually look like. I just did all this so I could hide from the police. I wish I could tell you more, but I'm afraid I have to go." I said.

I gave a small wave before walking away from him. I went to the cemetery and headed to Aunt Chie and Mom's grave. "Thanks for being there for me, Aunt Chie. Mom. I just wish I could've done more." I said.

I placed a rose on each of their graves, then walked over to Ryuk, Rem, and Gelus.
"Ready to go?" Ryuk asked. I looked back at the graves before looking back at Ryuk. "Uh-huh. I'm ready." I said as I picked up Gelus, holding him in my arms.

Ryuk picked me up and took off into the sky with Rem behind us. We flew past the clouds and made it to the Shinigami Realm. "Home sweet home." I mumbled. I decided that I was no longer going to live in the Human Realm.

I wanted to be close to my family. So from now, I'm going to be residing in the Shinigami Realm. Kenji... I'm sorry, but... I think this is goodbye. "Hey, Ryoko! It's been a while!" Gook called. "It's about time up showed up!" Sidoh said.

I smiled and waved at them as Ryuk took me to the Shinigami King. "Ryoko Taizumi... Welcome back." The Shinigami King greeted. "I'm surprised you were able yo recognize me when I look like this." I commented.

"Well, you're the only human who is able to enter the Shinigami Realm, so it wasn't that hard to figure out it was you." He said. I smiled at him. "Have you come here to say goodbye one last time?" The Shinigami King asked. "No," I shook my head.

"Long ago, when I was still a kid, you told me that one day I'd be able to choose my own fate. And really... All I wanted was to be close to my family. So, that's why... I'll be staying with you all." I said. The Shinigami King chuckled.

"You have no idea how long I've waited to hear those words. You've finally figured out your destiny and what matters important to you. Right from the start, you were never like the humans in the Human Realm. You are special, gifted, smart... You're one of us." He said.

I smiled again. "Thank you for helping me see that, Shinigami King." I said, bowing my head politely. He smiled back and opened his mouth as a black mist left his mouth, heading towards me. The mist surrounded my entire body as I felt my appearance changing.

After a few seconds, the mist cleared as I was a whole new person. Literally. "Not bad. I think I like this appearance is better than you're other one. It really suits you." Ryuk commented. I laughed at his comment. "Thanks, Ryuk." I said.

"Now, go have fun with your family. Gook's been dying to gamble with you." The Shinigami King said. "Right." I said. I went to leave the cave until he stopped me.

"But..."

"Hmm?"

"When you're done gambling with him, come back so you can tell me all about your adventures in the Human Realm."

"Will do."

Using my new abilities, Ryuk and I flew over to the other Shinigami. "Hey, Ryoko! Like the new look! Now help me beat Daril's butt!" Gook said. "Ha! In your dreams!" Daril said back. I laughed as I missed how they would argue all the time about who would beat who.

Even back at Aunt Chie's house, they would always yell at each other, talking about the other guy cheated. I sat down with them and we all started gambling. "All right. Who wants to play double or nothing?" I said. "Feeling confident there, Ryoko?" Daril said. "You know it." I replied.

Yes... I was definitely home. Finally home.
