Thirty-Two

[Sara's PoV]
"Why would they lie about it?" he asks, showing a little bit of curiosity.
"Who knows? They're the Military Police..." I growl.
-----
It was an incredibly long week, and when the door finally opened, I was so glad. The soldiers started filing in. Petra, Hanji, Oluo, Gunter, Erd, Erwin, everything seemed in order. When I saw Eren, I practically tackled him in a hug.
"It was a long week!" I say cheerfully, withdrawing.
He smiled and turned back to close the door. A foot caught it. "Hm? I thought I was the last one..." he says quietly. He opens it, and a Military Police soldier is there.
"What is it?" Eren says as I smolder in hatred for the MPs.
"I need Sara Alcander; is she here?"
"I'm right here," I say, practically snarling. I stomp towards him. "What is it?"
"The disease your parents had is possibly genetic. We need to test you again." He roughly grabs my arm, pushing my sleeve up and exposing my pale skin. He pulls a syringe out and sticks it into my arm.
It's surprisingly painless, even as it draws my blood out.
"Huh? Sara, what's going on?" Eren says as my blood fills the syringe.
"My parents had a disease, and he's saying I might have it. I have no idea what it was, but the soldiers said it was lethal."
"What? Why are they testing you now?" he says. "It's a weird time."
"She would've gotten back from the expedition now, wouldn't she?" he says, withdrawing the needle and looking at the blood filling the plastic tube.
I rub my arm a little, covering it with my sleeve again.
He tests it efficiently, and seems mildly amused with the result. "It's positive," he says, an almost undetectable smirk on his face.
I let the result sink in for a second, then stagger back. "It is? Why now? Why has it appeared in the five years since last test?!" I yell.
"Sara Alcander," the man says, raising his gun. "You will be executed where you stand for this disease."
He points the barrel of the gun at me. "I hope Levi doesn't mind blood on the floor."
"No way!" Eren yells, wrapping his arms around me.
"It's highly contagious, and I must ask you to step back," the MP says blandly, an emotionless expression on his face.
"I must ask you to step away. She's not sick; she would've shown symptoms."
"You don't even know what it is," the man says.
"I doubt you do," Eren responds.
"Eren, calm down. He's just lying so he has an excuse to kill me," I say calmly, feeling weirdly at ease.
"How is that better?!" he snaps at me.
"It's not," I respond cheerfully. I feel my knees give out from the shock of the realization: I'm going to die.
