Sixty-Six
[Sara's PoV]
We rode into the capital with silence hanging in the air. We didn't want to say anything, or it might give away that we're searching for an MP. That would give the rogue some time to hide out, which wouldn't help us.
We boarded our horses in the stables, paying for a day. The king's castle was in the center of the city, so we started walking there. "I hope the king doesn't mind blood in the halls, because I have a feeling I'll need to beat someone else to get to him."
Eren stays silent. When we reach the castle, I glance around at the protections. Looks like a series of MPs around it, probably a few layers of the allegedly strong soldiers. I catch the eye of one, and he gives me a surprised look.
"They really think I'm dead," I sneer as he leans over and whispers to the soldier next to him.
"They shot you in the stomach, I would expect someone dead from that, too."
"But still... Anyway, let's do this. I hope they're ready for what they're about to get handed to them."
"Let's try to talk our way through first or we'll both be thrown into jail."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure you get off the hook," I respond, trudging towards the soldiers lining the wall.
"That's not what I'm worried about," he protests, grabbing my hand. "I don't want you getting thrown in jail either." His puppy eyes bore into my soul.
"D*mmit, Jaeger, you're so adorable," I growl, yanking my hand out of his. "I won't beat anyone yet."
"Good," he says, doing a little cheer.
"Oi! Soldier!" I yell, and half of them turn to me. The other half stare straight ahead, ignoring me. "Let us in!"
One of them, an average-looking girl with a mocking expression and light brown hair, walks towards us. "Why should we?" she jeers.
"So we can talk to your fata*s king, of course."
"As if he's not your king, too," she responds, barking a laugh out.
"I don't consider him my king. Anyway, let us in. One of the men from your ranks attacked the strongest human alive, and we need to make sure he gets what he deserves."
"Lemme think for a sec." She puts on a fake thoughtful expression and pauses for a second. "Nah, we're good." She spins on her heel, starting to return to her spot in the line.
"Let me rephrase." I grabbed the back of her jacket, yanking her back. "Let us in now, or you won't see anything ever again."
"I'm sure you're gonna kill me," she responds sarcastically.
"No, actually, I'm not. I'm going to gouge out your godd*mned eyes with my thumb, and then I'll throw them over the wall to the Titans, and--"
Eren covers my mouth. "What she means is, please let us in so we can find the person who nearly killed Captain Levi."
"That's not what I meant at all," I grumbled into his hand.
