Two weeks after the Velentines

I was quite disturbed after the whole Valentines thing. That Dolph guy..the way he was touching me..it was terrifying indeed. But, as time passed, I realized that what happened after that was even more terrifying.

Out of nowhere, Dr. Grumposaurus Reigns came to my rescue, much to the dismay of his fiancée and if that wasn't shocking enough, she seemed to know that blonde guy already!

And I felt, she was definitely not pleased with Dr. Reigns for taking down that Dolph for me. And even though there's a least possibility of me meeting Dolph ever in my life, I'm certain about meeting Galina again and she is gonna rip me apart..and that comes today itself.

'Bayley...go! Dr. Reigns is asking you to help him with the ultrasound.' Mercy reminded me again.

Ugh! Why me?

'Uh... Yeah..' I said forcing a smile and started walking to Dr. Reigns' ultrasound room.

I softly pushed the door open just to make a gap between the door that would allow me to catch a glimpse of what's going on inside.

There she is!

Galina laid on the bed wearing a paper gown quite far from the door, which was being adjusted by a nurse. And Dr. Reigns was near the screen adjusting something.

I took a deep breath and pushed the door open.

'May I come in, Professor?' I asked in a softer voice than myself.

Dr. Reigns looked up from the screen to see me and immediately a frown appeared on his face.

Oh God! I'm so dead.

'Shouldn't you have asked that five minutes before?' he said holding the grumpy look, as usual calculating each second I breath.

'S.. Sorry I..' I gulped not being able to say I didn't know how to face your fiancée..

'Come in.' he said not waiting for my answer anyway.

I walked in nervously and as I did, my eyes immediately fell on Galina and unfortunately, hers fell on me.

Nooooooooooooooooo..

Like her fiancée her face too frowned on seeing me. 'You? Rome, what's she doing here?' Galina tried to sit up and burst.

'Relax Ms Becker, you shouldn't sit up in haste..' the nurse told her only to get a death glare from Galina.

'She's a student and she's definitely not here to gossip with me or you.' Dr. Reigns walked towards her bed. 'So, relax and let us do our jobs.' he added helping her lay down again.

Even though one may expect me to get happy with this, I seriously wasn't. My fear increased.

Galina looked at me like a predator. 'And wasn't there any other student in the Shield?' she asked.

That's right. I think I should leave and call one of them.

'There are. But today I want Bayley to help me with your ultrasound.' Dr. Reigns said unaffected by her words.

'But...'

'No buts Lina. I listened to you the other day. Today, you please listen to me. Please..' Dr. Reigns spoke the last part softly.

Galina wanted to say something but then closed her mouth giving me a death glare for a split second and rolled her eyes looking at Dr. Reigns.

'Fine. Just because you said so..' she said smiling at the last part.

'Thanks for understanding..' Dr. Reigns smiled running his fingers on her cheek. 'I love you Lina.'

'Love you too Rome..'

Me and the nurse exchanged mischievous yet awkward smiles seeing the couple romance.

'Now, Bayley.. Come do the gel..' Dr. Reigns said motioning to me while the nurse tugged paper gown up to reveal Galina's abdomen.

My hands shivered as I neared Galina who simply looked away towards Dr. Reigns.

I took the probe in my hand measuring the probable areas. God! I hope I didn't press too hard.. It may hurt her!

And you don't want to be soft either because the grumposaurus is gonna kill you if he doesn't get the images well.

Yeah. Double trouble.. As usual..

8 minutes later

'A little to the left.. Yeah.. Perfect. Press deep..' Dr. Reigns instructed me while fixating his eyes on the monitor.

'Ouch..' Galina winced as I pressed on the area that had her bladder. I looked at her gulping and as usual she looked at me without any friendliness.

Ship!

'Right there. Press a bit deeper..' Dr. Reigns instructed me.

What?

Yeah, that's the bladder you idiot! It's the main part and that's the reason the patients are asked to take water to fill it and get a clear image.. Oh I remember...

I did as he said.

'There. Done..' Dr. Reigns said unmindfully with his eyes fixated on the monitor.

I nodded taking the probe away. I took the tissue papers and started mopping Galina's abdomen.

'Hmm.. On the left..' Galina guided me in her unfriendly tone. 'You should know where you messed with this gel more.'

Messed!

'Uh.. Yeh..'

'Bayley help me make the report. Mia can clean her off.' Dr. Reigns said giving a momentary look covering both me and Galina.

'Sure Sir..' Mia, the nurse took the tissues from me. Galina rolled her eyes for no reason.

I nodded slightly amazed and moved near Dr. Reigns to help him with the report.

Galina's report was quite fine. Dr. Reigns was really happy. I could see his smile widen as he was showing the reports to his fiancée in his cabin.

Both me and Mia thought it would be fine to leave the couple alone. So, we walked out. After having a short chat with Mercy, I switched my phone on.

My phone beeped showing I had a text.

Alexa: Got a practice at 2. Sudden decision. Explain Dr. Ambrose' classes to me at night.

I sighed. They just had one of their biggest shows just few days ago and the kingslayers seemed to be on full swing practice!

Alexa has been skipping her classes and asking me to explain her the things we had in common.

Bayley: Fine. Just don't be late like yesterday.

Alexa: Of course not. Don't be scared 😂

Scared! Is that what she thought the reason for my concern was? Ugh! She'll never understand me. She'll never acknowledge me as a caring friend. For her, I was like her little daughter.

I made my way towards the washroom to do a little clean up with my hands following the ultrasound. But, as I walked in, my steps halted as I heard a certain female voice from inside one of the cubicles.

Who's that?

'... Don't worry! The baby's fine and you could have seen the excitement on Roman's face when he saw the reports. Poor guy!' she chuckled.

Isn't that Galina?

I curiously walked near the door of the closed cubicle.

'.. No. Don't even think about it. He already hates you after that stupid incident remember?' Galina spoke with a little annoyance.

Incident? Who hates whom?

'No.. No.. No. I don't want to hear anything about that night. I can't believe you went for that little slut. If she hadn't already had Roman wrapped around, now it's you too..'

Slup who..? And she's got the grumposaurus wrapped..

'Okay fine. I've heard enough of your sorries. Now, finish your work fast. I want to see you on my way back...just got to make sure Roman doesn't try to drop me home.'

Wait! Is she going to meet someone behind Dr. Reigns' back? But, why? Dr. Reigns loves her so much and I don't think he hides anything from her!

'Hmm.. I love you too. Bye Dolph..'

I almost choked on my breath. No way! How could she say I love you to..

But, hey! Dolph! That blonde guy who tried to..

I recalled the look on Galina's face when she saw Dolph trying to molest me and Dr. Reigns trashing him as a result. Oh my God! Does that mean..

No. No. No. We often say I love you to friends too..

But, that look on her face wasn't for a friend like, right? And who talks to her friend from inside a cubicle.

May be she just received the call when she was inside! Plus, Dr. Reigns loves her too much. I've seen that..

And you've also heard her speaking to someone secretly in Dr. Ambrose' place too. Doesn't that make two and two?

But, she's pregnant and Dr. Reigns is so happy. They are going to be a happy family. They seemed so in love when they saw the reports today..

..and which girl leaves the man she loves alone on Valentines day?

No. No. No. She can't ch..cheat on Dr. Reigns. She'd be a fool to do so. Doesn't she see how much the guy loves her? If someone loved me like that, I'd felt like floating in the heaven on a chariot made of red roses and..

Okay stop your idiotic imaginations now. You should also realize now that she called you a slup who's got Dr. Reigns wrapped..

What on earth! No! That's not true. I don't see him that way and neither does he see me that way. I feel he treats me like a kid and for me he's like a God...epitome of respect as well as fear..who shows me the path to my right future.

Okay... Okay. I get it. But, you still can't change the fact that Galina might be cheating on Dr. Reigns..

Oh God! Dr. Reigns is gonna be so.. I gasped innerly as I heard the door of the cubicle open. Out of fear, my feet rushed aside and I got inside the nearest cubicle.

My heart paced.

Wait! She's the one at fault. Why are you hiding?

Are you kidding me? No matter what happens in this world, this lady always holds me at fault!

fter a few seconds, I heard her footsteps fading, making me realize she left.

But, her conversation wasn't getting out of my head as I dried my hands with the towel after washing them thoroughly.

How can she chose to see Dolph behind Dr. Reigns' back?

No. No. I'll still stick to the notion that she's planning a surprise for Dr. Reigns. Yeah.. That's it..

And don't you remember that Valentines isn't coming any time soon?

I walked arguing with my mind. No matter how mean and grumpy, Dr. Reigns is, he doesn't deserve this. My mind traveled to the other night when she said Dolph was her friend's boyfriend.

Yes! That is the thing! May be Dolph is helping her to surprise Dr. Reigns for his birthday or something. I was thinking silly all this while. I sighed making my way to the right towards the conference hall but before I could enter, I bump....no..I held myself at approximately three inches before bumping into..

'Jesus Bayley...! Won't you ever learn to watch and walk?' Dr. Reigns said in annoyance.

I guess no..oops didn't say that aloud though.

'Uh.. Sorry Sir, I was just..' I tried explaining knowing too well that I've got no excuse left.

'Save it. Now, go get the presentation ready. Rex is coming too. I'll be coming in half an hour after dropping Lina.' he said motioning me towards the hall.

'Yes Sir..' I said nodding in nervousness and walked inside without wasting time.

There was an international seminar on the variations of menopause in few days and Dr. Reigns has asked me and his other student Rex to prepare our papers. To be honest, I felt so fortunate when I was selected leaving all other senior students of his. But, now that adds up more pressure on me. I have to leave up to expectations, if he has got that from me.

I started cross checking my slides which I prepared till 3 in the morning. But, I didn't have to wait for half an hour for Dr. Reigns because after five minutes, he was back as evident by the huge push on the door from outside.

I looked at him surprised.

'Can you call Rex and tell him to come early? Lina said she would be fine to go alone.' he said before taking a water bottle from the conference table to gulp down his throat.

I looked at him and I didn't know if he'd know the subtle bit of sympathy in my look. How can I forget, she said she was going to meet Dolph?

Poor grumposaurus!

I nodded picking up my phone.

Few days later

'....and that's all from my desk of presentation. And once again, I assure you that the Shield will definitely take up a research on the aforementioned topic to ensure a healthy lifestyle of women above 45. Thank you.' I completed my presentation with a nervous smile at the audience.

The entire auditorium roared with applauds. I smiled, this time a more confident one.

There were questions thrown and I loved to participate in the healthy discussion of the expert gynecologists of the world.

I walked off the podium once again getting huge applauds.

'There you go ladies and gentlemen.. Miss Bayley Martinez.. definitely one of the best best doctors in near future..' the host announced and my heart flattered.

Really? They think so..?

I went near the area where our team sat. Rex smiled at me and I did the same. Dr. Reigns was busy speaking with some other doctors.

'Now it's time we announce the winning proposition of this two days conference on the variations of menopause. So, may I request the most honorable man in the building Dr. Jeffrey Kerstin to announce the name of the winning team. Please, sir..'

We all clapped. Dr. Kerstin was a 73 years old practitioner of Gynecology that everyone looked up to. Right now, he works as a full time practitioner and part-time Professor at the Salubre Hospitals in LA. We all clapped standing up giving him the honor.

My eyes fell on Dr. Reigns who took a too admirable step to aid the veteran towards the stage.

'I heard he was Dr. Reigns' teacher in the past.' Rex whispered clearing the doubt I had.

Wow! He's so respectful towards Dr. Kerstin!

'And the winner is..' Dr. Kerstin said with a smile. 'a Department that is lead by the best student I ever had an admirable doctor who's won the numerous awards for his accomplishments in most critical operations. Roman... It's for you and your team..' he said holding the award high.

I exclaimed in happiness. Yes! I can't believe we won.

'Ladies and gentlemen, a big round of applauds for the Department of Gynecology from the Shield...' the host announced.

I saw Dr. Reigns walk towards the podium with a smile of pride.

'Well done Bayley..!' Rex came and hugged me.

Oh dear! That was unexpected!

'Uhh thank you Rex. You too.' I said pulling away. Rex realized my discomfort and released me.

Ugh! Why am I such a...?

Dr. Reigns received the trophy and shared a long and warm hug with his teacher.

He withdrew and took the mic in his hands.

'... I can't explain what taking a trophy from the hands of this man means to me.' he said through an emotional smile. Dr. Kerstin patted his back affectionately.

'When I lacked any bit of support and confidence, it was this man that held my hands and taught me how to love your profession and be a good doctor, he taught me how to be a good teacher.. Although I doubt I still have become that or not..' he said looking at Dr. Kerstin.

There was a fit of chuckles on the stage.

Well, he is a great teacher but...never mind..

'It's for this man that I am where I am today and he taught me how to see through everything and appreciate them. He taught me how to motivate, yet not flatter.. He taught me how to inspire. So, today taking his inspiration once again, I dedicate this to the people who I feel should get inspired by the teaching of this man and Sir.. I do hope I can at least put 1% of what you put on me on them.. So, Bayley.. '

I almost gasped hearing my name.

'... Rex, Trevor.. This is for you and your effort.' he said raising his trophy in the air.

Everyone clapped. I was having goosebumps myself.

Rex clapped hard with emotions. I clapped with an emotional smile.

This was the first time I felt so important, so appreciated in my life and that too from the man I thought would never even consider me as a student.

Thank you God! Thank you!

'Hey Bayley!' Mercy came and hugged me too.

Now, that's where my comfort zone lies.

'Told you. You would do good. You were nervous for no reason girl.' she said.

I giggled finally feeling like I lived up to the expectations.

'Thanks Mercy and thanks for coming.' I said.

The thing is Mercy wasn't supposed to come here and only came here for me on the request of Alexa.

I puked like seven times last night due to acute nervousness and Alexa being my mom was really concerned. She wanted to be here herself but she had a test in Pediatrics and even though, she was quite happy to skip it and come, I urged her to stay.

So, she asked Mercy to cheer me up and yes, Mercy being one of the very few comfortable people in the Department of Gynecology, was a great help.

'Not a problem at all Bayley...I'm glad Dr. Reigns permitted me to be off duty for a day.' Mercy giggled.

I nodded with a smile.

'Yeah.. Even I couldn't believe Dr. Reigns did..' I said honestly.

'Hey girls! What did Dr. Reigns do..?' the deep voice of the man himself cut me off. Both me and Mercy looked at him with a smile. He had his own look of amazement too.

Ship!

'Professor!' Rex rushed towards him I'm excited.

'Hey.. Well done boy..' Dr. Reigns patted and hugged him slightly.

Wow!

'Dr. Reigns! Yayyyy we won!' Mercy couldn't help her excitement any longer and almost attempted to jump on the grumposaurus.

God bless her!

But, then today is the opposite day and the grumposaurus smiled walking at us and before I knew he engulfed both of us in loose side hugs.

My body felt frozen. My breath stuck on the windpipe as I felt his warm hand softly holding my back.

It's fine Bayley! It isn't that you are having a physical contact for the first time!

Yeah.. But that was so unexpected! And.. Can you believe the grumposaurus actually hugs..

My eyes closed as the side of my face touched his shoulder.

It wasn't more than 6 seconds but all the while I had to suck up my breath in nervousness.

That's because you are a wreck. And don't forget he's your Professor and not a random dude. So, be comfortable.

Yeah that's the reason I'm nervous.

Look at Mercy, she's his assistant. Is she nervous. Don't be a fool Bayley. Be normal.

I guess you're right.

As I felt him loosening, I smiled nervously letting my breath go.

'Now.. We want a treat Sir.' Mercy said childishly. 'Bayley and Rex have worked their asses off all these weeks and uhm..me too.. Please Doctor..' she pleaded to the stone heart.

'Uh.. I..think she is right..' Rex said quite fearfully.

'Okay fine..' Dr. Reigns only said and Mercy exclaimed. 'Yayyyy...let's go Rex..' Mercy pulled Rex by his wrist dragging him with her.

'Woah..' Rex rushed past trailing behind her.

'Ugh! This Mercy just needs an excuse to celebrate!' Dr. Reigns muttered under his scoff while I pressed my lips together awkwardly with a 'hmm...' as Dr. Reigns' hand slid softly down my lower back.

He shifted his attention to me and our eyes locked in the process. I felt the amazement on his face fading slowly and a frown appearing on his face.

Gosh! I knew it! I knew he always hated me.

'Uh.. Great presentation kid. Keep it up.' he said with an indifferent smile moving his hand off me and moving away to speak with other doctors. It was then that I realized how close we stood a moment earlier.

Ugh! This Mercy! It's her fault. I'm always uncomfortable in hugging man.

Few hours later

'You know Bayley, I don't think I can take it at this moment. Let's go to sleep. I'm feeling tired.' Alexa yawned trying to get up from her chair.

'No way!' I grabbed her wrist and made her sit down. 'Come on Lexi! I just came after participating in a big presentation and I still have the mood to explain you for your test tomorrow and there you are.. You aren't even ready to listen..!' I said frustrated.

Alexa looked down with a bored face. 'Bayley, I too came from a practice and I feel tired.'

'..and who asked you to go to the practice a day before your test?' I asked surprised. 'I mean I know it's your passion and all but..'

'Bayley please.. The practice was important, okay! We need to train with the new instruments!' she said getting defensive.

'Yeah but didn't Dr. Rollins know that you've got a test..?' I was about to ask Alexa but she burst off immediately.

'Why are you getting him into it? It was my test anyway. Besides, I don't think I'm gonna pass it anyway. So, no point trying.' she said shaking her head and getting up yawning again.

And this time I really feel the same as her.. Unless she pulls up a miracle.

'Okay then. I'll just read aloud for you. You just listen while laying on bed.' I said in a desperate attempt to get her pass the test.

'Uh.. Bayley.. It's no use. I don't think this will work.' she said laying down.

'Just listen to me okay..' I said cutting her off.

'Fine..' she chuckled. 'Try that..'

4 months later

Galina's P-O-V

Life has become boring as fuck. After reaching 30 weeks of this horrible pregnancy, I almost feel like a big teddy bear trapped in the cupboard. Roman is going more protective day by day barring me to eat every little thing i craved to eat, asking me to stay indoors until he's not home and those trash.

I took the last sip of my coffee and placed the cup on the sink with my breakfast plate.

There! Roman had come late at night and won't be getting up before 8 since he has a shift at ten. This was my perfect time to have coffee.

This guy is crazy! I mean it's fine if you don't like coffee, but why imposing it on others? I hate this and that's the reason I always hide the coffee in the guest room. Who can survive without coffee?

I don't know how long I'll have to handle his crazy tantrums..

My phone rang in the living room and I went to receive it.

'Henry.. Do wash the stuffs at the fast.' I ordered in order to hide the evidences.

'But.. I'm trying to make breakfast for Dr. Reigns..' he said.

I rolled my eyes. 'Do the washing first. Breakfast can wait..' I said curtly before walking towards the living room.

I picked the phone. It was from Dolph.

Galina: Hello!

Dolph: Hello baby! How're you doing?

Galina: (gritting her teeth) stop your fake sweetness Dolph. I thought you already forgot me! (sarcastically)

Dolph: No baby! Are you kidding me? How can I forget you? It's just that I was a little busy with the work New York. Sorry baby.. Please don't be mad... (pouting and teasing)

Galina: (rolls eyes) Yeah.. Yeah work.. You have time for everyone except your girlfriend and your kids...

Dolph: Come on Galina.. You know that's not true. I love you and I love my kid. It's just that my company is facing losses and I remain quite busy.

Galina: Fine but how long will you take to execute our plan. Roman is acting so protective and bringing me cute little gifts every day out of happiness and excitement of seeing his child..

Dolph: His child! (chuckles)

Galina: (chuckles)

Dolph: But, hey! No worries.. I have an amazing plan. But, you just have to officiate things with him first.

Galina: No way! I'm never gonna get married to him. This guy is crazy...and over protective! He remains dipped in his pile of books all the night. He hates coffee for no reason. And when he gets angry, he becomes a fucking lion but of course his anger melts away soon. But, I can never..

Dolph: Relax baby. You don't have to marry him then. Just give birth to your child and get the paternity certificate from him. And then when our child becomes the heir of his property.... Blastttt.. (laughs)

Galina: Wow! But, what if you get caught like all other times?

Dolph: I won't baby. Thus time I have a very crafty plan.

Galina: (smirks) Can't wait baby..

'Lina..! You're up?' I heard Roman's voice approaching.

Galina: Shit baby.. Roman is here. I'll talk to you later. Bye.

Dolph: Okay.. Bye. I love you and take care of our baby..

(Disconnected)

Phew...

Roman's P-O-V

I got up from the bed late today. I'm already late for the shift. I wasn't feeling fine to be honest. Last night I overworked myself and the chilly night wind didn't help either. My throat felt sore and I have a headache too.

I don't think it's something viral but I guess I should maintain a distance from Lina. What if she catches it and our baby... No I should keep a distance.

Lina was already up. I don't understand why does she get up so early in this condition. She can take as much rest as she wants. I had a very small shower and got ready for the hospital.

'Lina.. You're up?' I asked walking towards the living room.

My eyes fell on the couch that Lina sat on and she was watching TV.

I smiled. 'Good morning love..' I said walking near her.

'Hey Roman! You're up..' she smiled looking at me. '.. And you're ready too!'

'Yeah..I'm kinda getting late for the hospital. So..' I cleared my sore throat.

'Oh yeah.. I noticed you were late. But, don't worry if you start right now, you'll reach your time..' she suggested cheerfully.

'Uh yeah.. Is the breakfast ready?' I asked.

Galina's face fell. 'Uh.. Actually I told Henry to make it for you. But, he was too busy with other stuffs.' she said innocently. 'In fact, I didn't have my breakfast either.'

What!

I frowned. 'Henry!' I called aloud. 'Henry come fast..'

'Yeah.. Yes Sir..' Henry rushed from the kitchen.

I was really angry on him.

'Henry! Why isn't the breakfast ready yet? Don't you know Galina is pregnant and she has to take her food on time. This irresponsible behavior wasn't expected from you..' I said sharply.

Henry was visibly scared. Him and Oswald has been with me since the beginning. He gulped looking at me..then Galina and looked down.

'Actually..' he looked at Galina again and then at me. 'I'm sorry Sir.. I'll just go make..'

'Yeah. Do it fast. I already told you what you have to prepare for Galina. So.. Do it fast.' I ordered.

'And you..?' Henry said.

'Don't worry about me. I'll have something from outside. And take this as a warning. I don't want a repetition of such incidents again. Linda's meals should be on time from now.' I reminded.

Henry nodded looking down and looked at Galina again and walked away towards the kitchen.

I cleared my throat again. I guess I yelled a little too much..

'Aww Roman.. Thanks. I told you this Henry was getting too lazy these days. Do one thing.. Fire them from next month..' Galina said standing up.

I sighed. 'No Lina. Oswald and Henry has been with me for so long. They are almost like a family. I know what he did today was an irresponsible act, specially with you. I'm sorry on behalf of him. I guess I should give him another chance.' I said.

Lina rolled her eyes. 'Yeah.. Whatever..'

I smiled. I wanted to kiss her forehead but firstly, I have to confirm if things are contagious, even though I don't feel so.

'Okay then.. Bye Lina. Take your lunch on time, okay..' I said with a smile before picking my bag and walking to the door.

'Bye Roman..' Galina said focusing back to the TV.

40 minutes later

I walked into the Shield fast. I could feel my eyes burning and body weakening. I guess I shouldn't be doing the OT stuffs today. I have one scheduled delivery and it's a quite normal and healthy one. So, I'm gonna request Finn to do it for me. I hope he won't say no.

I walked near the elevator and then I saw someone who I wanted to have an urgent talk with.

'Becky!' I called her aloud.

I just can't hold things to myself after Dean spoke to me yesterday. My boy was so broken and the worst part was he was failing to express things. I can't see him like this.

'Hey Ro...! You're in this shift?' Becky asked walking to me with a smile.

I nodded. 'Yes, I am and I'm already late. But, Becky there's something I need to tell you..' I finally said.

Becky frowned. 'What? Tell me..'

'Uh.. It's about..' I looked around. 'Dean.' I said.

The glam in Becky's face fell immediately. 'What about him?' she asked looking away showing no interest. 'Look Roman, I don't have time to hear anything..'

'Becky please.. He's hurt and I know, how he treated you during your last days of stay was but trust me, he repents and he misses a lot Becky. He can't even feel his home a home anymore because you aren't there.' I tried to explain.

Becky scoffed sarcastically. 'And so he sent you as his mouth piece of defense?' she said. 'Look Roman, if Dean really was sorry.. He'd have come to me himself and not hold his big ego and send you instead.' she said. A lace of hurtfulness evident in her voice.

'But Becky, he isn't even in a situation to face you..' I tried to convince her.

'No Ro..' she cut me off. 'I don't want to talk about this. I am in a new phase of life and I'm happy and.. I want Dean to be the same.' she said looking away from my eyes.

By her voice and her looks, I knew the pain she had while saying this but I guess I shouldn't say anything more. I was really sad after seeing Dean's condition yesterday. I wish I could help him.

I sighed. 'Fine..but u just want you to think..'

'Hey!' I heard Randy's voice who appeared behind Becky with a smile on his face.

'What's up Roman? You guys seem to be in a deep conversation!' she asked wrapping an arm around Becky.

'Yeah.. Kind of..' I said clearing my slightly choked voice. I guess I spoke too much in this condition.

'No Randy. We were just talking about the duties.' Becky said with a serious look. 'Roman just wanted to know if I'd be free to help him with the check up of the baby after the delivery.' she lied looking at Randy.

I frowned. What's her problem to say the truth.

'Oh.. Alright.. By the way, How's your fiancée Roman?' Randy asked.

'She's good.. and Excuse me, the doors are closing.. 'I said no more word and walked inside the elevator avoiding them for two reasons. First, I was tired exercising my voice and second, these days..even I've started disliking Randy for some reason.

I went to the department to look at the OPD patients. I told Bayley to look at them whenever I'm late. I hope she did it. I also asked her to consult Finn if she faces difficulties in analysis, even though she never needed to consult Finn in these four months.

I know my other students often wonder and even are a little mad about me giving this charge to Bayley who is way junior but then.. I wish they knew the difference between her and them. I guess even Bayley doesn't know that. She has no idea about her potentials. I really want her to pursue her internship under Dr. Kerstin, somebody who changed my life once and for all. But to be eligible, she has to be more focused, serious and determined. Because even though she is a good student, I know she lacks a lot of confidence. Also she's someone who I feel could be easily distracted. She's too fragile and she needs to change that if she wants to make it to Boston under Dr. Kerstin.

'Good afternoon Sir..' Mercy greeted me with a smile.

'Morning Mercy...any patient left?' I asked.

'Uh no.. Sir.. Bayley's checked them and the good news is nobody complains being treated by her.' Mercy said with a smile.

'Well..' I scoffed.

I've often heard patients complain when a doctor is absent for some reason and he let's his associates look at his patients. I usually reschedule the patients when I'm not present but Bayley's the first student who I vested the responsibility on. Bayley doesn't know it and neither does she need to know.

'Okay fine.. Uh.. Is the lady who was due..ready?' I asked.

'Hope so. The nurses are maintaining everything from the morning.' Mercy said.

I nodded. 'Hm.. Can you please tell Finn to see me in my cabin?' I asked.

'Sure Sir..I'll call his assistant.' Mercy said picking up the phone.

'And yeah, where's B.. Miss Martinez?' I asked.

'Oh.. May be in the conference room.' Mercy said.

'Thanks..' I said before walking towards the conference hall.

I reached the door and pushed it open to see the almost-empty room with only one being in it.

Sitting on a sofa, Bayley was silently going through a magazine without knowing that I entered.

I cleared my voice making her look up wide eyed and close the magazine immediately.

'Hello Professor!' she sprang up from the sofa.

Why does she have to stand every time she sees me?

'So, how were the patients?' I asked her.

'Good. None with major concerns and yeah..that boy Jerry.. He was here with his mom..' Bayley said with a smile of excitement.

'You mean Jerry's mom was here with him..' I corrected.

'Oh yeah..uh..' Bayley slapped the back of her head like a kid skipping his homework. 'Mrs. Peterson.. She was here. She's due next week and uh.. Jerry was looking for you and asking for the cookies you gave him the other day. I couldn't find them on your table. So, what I did was I brought the fortune cookies. I've always felt so excited about the messages and I knew he was going to love them too...so..'

'Bayley!' I called urging her to stop somehow just controlling my laughter.

'...and he got the message that you'll soon get a precious gift from..oh..uh..you called me?' she finally realized.

'Well yes..' I said crossing my arms on my chest.

'Oh.. Sorry..' she said biting her lips.

'Hmm.. Now tell me what was Mrs. Peterson's condition?' I asked taking seat on one of the chairs clearing my voice a little.

'Mrs. Peterson seemed good. If things go this well, she'll give birth to a very healthy baby next week.' she said smiling and taking a seat on a chair, leaving three chairs from me.

What I studied was.. Bayley unmindfully took her seat just as I did. She's weird.

I nodded. 'Good then. You have to do..' my voice choked again.. 'Excuse me..' I said motioning to the water bottle and Bayley immediately passing it to me.

I took a gulp or two even though I didn't want to take anything other than warm water right now.

As I put down the bottle, my eyes directly fell on Bayley who was looking at me with a frown.

'You don't seem well today Professor!' she said in a soft serious tone.

I scoffed. 'I'm good. Just a little..' but before I could say anything..

Bayley's P-O-V

As Dr. Reigns put the bottle off his mouth, my eyes fell on his. His eyes were glossy and had a tinge of red as if he's feeling something painful or irritating.

By the way he went for the bottle, I knew Dr. Reigns was feeling a little uncomfortable with his throat too. Plus, he didn't even shout or get angry on me even once today while on other days, I would be calling an idiot for the thirtieth time already.

Hahaha.. You survived today because he was late!

Yeah he was a little late. I saw him and Dr. Ambrose stay up late last night. I don't know when they left. I guess that's the reason he got up late today. May be he was tired or unwell.. Yeah definitely unwell..

As he looked at me questioningly, I couldn't help asking.. 'You don't seem well today Professor?'

Dr. Reigns initially gave me a look that said he didn't expect this from me in million years.

Then he scoffed and within that, I felt he could barely exhale. Wait! Is he having a fever?

'I'm good. Just little..' before he could complete I got near him and placed the back of my palm against his forehead.

I gasped. I was so right.

'Oh my God! I knew it! You have high fever.' I said placing the back of my palm under his chin this time. I was definitely right.

But, then I felt Dr. Reigns pull away slightly. 'I'm fine Bayley. Nothing serious..' he said.

'Nothing serious! But.. Sir, you are almost burning. Oh! that's the reason you were late today.' I said out loud solving the hardest puzzle ever. 'But, Professor you didn't have to come you know. We could've handled things here..' I said feeling a little bad for Dr. Reigns.

He's too dedicated sometimes and often forgets to look at himself.

In the last few months, this is all I learnt about him. He's definitely a grumposuarus.. No doubt about that! But, somewhere deep down, I feel he isn't that bad. May be he isn't bad at all! May he's just a guy too much invested into something that doesn't invest back at him. I'm even scared to admit that but I kinda feel pity for Dr. Reigns and I have strong reasons for that.

In the past few months my suspicion has become my belief. Galina indeed is cheating on him. I haven't told Dr. Reigns about this but it's more than once that I saw that Dolph guy either dropping Galina or picking her from near the Shield. Most of the times she had an ultrasound and she'd say she either took a cab or her friend Dana dropped her. She'd make excuses like she needs to go shopping and all and blindside Dr. Reigns. On another occasion I went to Dr. Reigns' house to get few books as asked by him but as I was about to press the bell, I heard laughing voices from inside. I hid trying to gather the courage to face the situation. Dolph walked out with Galina few minutes later and...they pecked on each other's lips.

I was so shocked that day that I couldn't even get the books or make it back to the Shield. I went straight to my dorm. When I came to the Shield the next day empty handed, you can already imagine the bitterness in the 20 minutes long thrashing from Dr. Reigns.

I couldn't tell him..till today. I know he'd never trust and besides, I can only imagine how hurt he'll be on knowing the truth but the question is how long will the truth be suppressed?

Dr. Reigns scoffed and looking away. 'Yeah right..' he muttered to himself in a tone that was quite sarcastic towards me.

I know this guy thinks of me as an idiot but I'm not that idiotic. I mean, I definitely caught his fiancée's infidelity before him and he's still being so ignorant and trusting about it. But anyway, I think it's better if...

'Uh..Professor, I... I really mean it. I think you should take some rest today. You can ask someone else to do the delivery.. I mean, you really look like you need to take rest..' I said gathering some courage.

Dr. Reigns looked at me with a frown.

Oh God! You should never think of doing anything good for this guy!

'Running away from responsibilities is something Roman Reigns never learnt Bayley..' Dr. Reigns said. 'And to ensure the safety and security of the patients, I should stay away from them considering my health. But, even in that case, I can't even think of taking a leave for the day. It's not the ethic of a doctor. And I think you should learn that too.' he said retaining his usual image despite the heaviness in his voice.

And all I could do was nod.

Then something hit me..

'But, Professor if you don't do the delivery..'

'Roman, you called me?' I heard the familiar Irish accent made me look at the door of the conference hall.

Oh dear lord!

'Uh yeah Finn. I did..' he had to clear his coughing tone again. 'excuse me.. I just..'

'You're okay?' Dr. Balor asked walking inside with a concerned look.

'Yeah.. I'm fine. Just a sore throat. Come sit Finn. I actually needed a favor from you.' he said.

Dr. Balor nodded with a smile and even spared a smile towards me, which I awkwardly returned.

Don't get me wrong, I'm way over him. But, whenever I think those days of desperately hanging around him and even getting to his apartment to serve him when he was sick, I feel so embarrassed. How could I be so shameless and desperate for someone's attention who I met just for few days and that too one who's my Professor?

Who knows what Dr. Balor might have thought about me?

A sore loser, of course.. Hahaha..

'Favor? I'll be glad Roman. But like, what can I do for you?' Dr. Balor asked taking a seat between me and Dr. Reigns.

'Yeah.. With my cold, I don't want to enter the OT. So, I was thinking if you could do the delivery of Miss Hornfield for me.' Dr. Reigns said.

Oh! Not a bad idea!

'Sure Roman.. I don't have any delivery today. I'm honoured that you asked.' Dr. Balor said.

Great! Problem solved.

I guess I should leave now. I held a tight lipped smile getting up from the seat and started towards the door but..

'Miss Martinez!' the deep voice made me halt the steps. I turned around meekly.

'Where are you going?' Dr. Reigns frowned.

Oh no! Not in front of Dr. Balor!

'Professor actually..' I gulped.

'Wherever you're going, better come fast and call other members of the team too. You all are going to assist Finn in this delivery.' he said.

WHAT? I mean.. I did assist Dr. Reigns few times but with Dr. Balor....

'Yes and you know Miss Hornfield, right? Get her files and explain them to Finn.' he ordered.

I nodded submissively. Why? Why does this guy hate me so much? Why with Dr. Balor?

'That's right Bayley.. Take a small relaxing break and get me the files. We are going to do this together..' Dr. Balor said with the most charming smile that doesn't affect me any more.

I smiled nodding and walked out.

Roman's P-O-V

Now what's wrong with Bayley?

I thought she'd be really comfortable working with Finn unlike working with me. And how can I forget, it was actually Finn who recommended Bayley to me. And I'm glad he did. I thought she was quite expressive with him from what I saw in the initial days but now this girl had an appearance like somebody punched her hard on her face!

'Okay Finn..' I cleared my voice. '.. thank you again. I hope..'

'Oh! Cut away with the formalities Roman. You do mine and I do yours. That's how it runs. Sharing with each other won't harm.' he said.

I scoffed hearing him.

'What?'

I looked at him with a serious sarcastic look. 'You do mine and I do yours..that was pretty..' I paused and Finn just read my mind and we laughed out loud together.

Bayley's P-O-V

'Come on Bayley! How long are you gonna cling to that stupid past..?' Alexa said taking a sip of her coffee.

'I know.. But, it feels so embarrassing! And when I remember imagining a flower shower with him, I feel like banging my head on the wall. This makes me lose all the confidence I earned in these months.' I said taking a sip of my lemonade.

Alexa looked at me with a frown. 'So, basically you're placing the memories of those days above everything you've earned in these months?' she questioned.

'What? No..' I protested.

'Then what's the problem? Just think how changed you are now. You've topped the batch several times and not everyone gets to assist the doctors at such a stage. But, you are doing it.' she said.

'I know..'

'No buts. Just go and do your duty. I'll catch up with you later..' she said throwing the paper cup to the trash can like a pro.

'But, where are you going?' I asked.

Alexa rolled her eyes. 'I have Music class with Dr. Rollins at this time. How can you forget?'

Oh.. Of course..

'Alexa.. Do you even remember the faces of others teachers in the Shield?!' I asked sarcastically not remembering when was the last time she took other classes seriously. I felt so embarrassed when Dr. Lynch asked me if Alexa is recovering from the fever. Of course, the fever she never had.

Alexa frowned. 'What do you mean? Look, Bayley.. Our band is planning the grandest show next month and we need practice...So, I need to spend some time rehearsing, okay.. ' she said sharply rolling her eyes and walking away.

'Okay..' I sighed.

After 3 hours..

Finally, the baby came out. It was a boy.

I smiled wide.

'Wow!' I said giggling as I carried the baby in the safe towel. It was crying softly.

'Told you it was going to be fine!' Dr. Balor said with twinkling eyes. I nodded rocking the baby.

The mother smiled through her semi-closed eyes.

I handed the baby to the nurse who took it the respective ward. Alexa was right. My stupid past is nothing in front of my confident present. I walked out of the delivery room after some other formalities. I changed my clothes and went to report things to Dr. Reigns.

As I peeped into his room, Dr. Reigns leaned his head on the back of his chair. He seemed exhausted.

Poor guy!

'Professor!' I called, making him aware immediately. He straightened himself and motioned me to walk in.

'The delivery was successful. Both the mother and the son are doing good.' I said with a smile.

'Oh..' he said without any expression. '.. and is the baby taken for..'

'All done Sir...' I said fast. 'And uh...there aren't any more cases and there are only three hours remaining in this shift. So... You..can leave..' I said after a lot of debate.

Dr. Reigns frowned looking at me.

'No. I mean, you just looked..' I tried a save before being shouted on again.

But, now he just looked at me and a slight smile appeared on his face. 'I'm fine Bayley. I've taken a pill. You can go home for today.' he said.

Well, now who can argue?

'Okay Sir..' I said before walking out.

Roman's P-O-V

I watched her go. She surprises me with her acts sometimes.

She seemed was actually concerned about my cold. Well, I guess her doctor instincts are working already!

I scoffed. 'Silly girl!'

I picked my phone and called Galina for the fifth time in last twenty minutes. I hope she's finished the talking she was doing.

Galina: Hello!

Roman: Hey Lina! Who were you talking to? I called you so many times..

Galina: Uh.. Sorry Rome. Actually, you know how me and Dana get all engrossed when we talk. We always lose track of time (chuckles). But, I'm sorry..

Roman: No it's fine (clears the throat) I was just wondering if you've taken the lunch and the pills on time.

Galina: Aww! Don't worry about that. I set the reminders on my phone.

Roman: Well..good. I was thinking I'm  going to come early today and..

Galina: No! (loudly)

Roman: Huh?

Galina: I mean..you don't have to worry about me. You don't have to skip your patients for me. I'm fine and Dana said she's going to come and we'll be visiting the nearest park.

Roman: That's good. May be I can join you all too. It's been long since I've seen Dana and I must thank her for taking care of you..

Galina: No. No. No. It's really okay Roman. You can meet her some other day. Just please don't skip your work for me. I'll feel guilty you know..

Roman: (clears throat) Oh.. Okay.. I guess I'll be home then. I wasn't feeling well today and..

Galina: Told you it's not needed Rome. I'm fine. Now, do one thing when you'll be done with your shift, just get me those ice creams I loved the other day. We'll have them after dinner like the other day.

Roman: Ice creams.. Uh.. Okay.. I'll get them for you.

Galina: That's my baby! Thank you. And I'll see you. Bye.

Roman: Bye Lina (sighs)

Since her pregnancy, Lina has become slightly insensible. I guess that's just the swing. Never mind.

Bayley's P-O-V

The Next Day

'That'll be enough for today.' Dr. Reigns said. 'Just read these two books for reference.' he handed me the books.

I nodded.

I walked out of the cabin towards the lab but just to almost bump into the lady herself again.

'Sorry..'

'Ugh! It's you again...Didn't your parents taught you to walk with decency?' Galina questioned.

What? She can't say that!

'Look, it's between me and you. Why are you getting my parents into this?' I asked getting annoyed.

Well, she's lost all my respect, so why not?

Her teeth gritted. 'And what if your blind ass killed my child, eh? Who's gonna bear that you little bitch..?'

My bar of patience was breaking apart.

'Miss Becker! I already said sorry for that and like you said, I expect some decency from you too.' I said curtly.

Galina's mouth opened wide. 'You little.. Oh! I get it! Roman's being treating you good and that has made you think of yourself as a princess or something. But, you better know that one word from me..' she snapped her fingers.. 'and he'll throw you out of the Shield.' she threatened.

I scoffed making her more surprised.

'Try me..' I said before walking off leaving her shocked.

I don't know why my skin crawls whenever she talks to me these days. She's insulted me a lot on the past but I can't take it anymore. I have been silent only because she's Dr. Reigns' fiancée and she's pregnant with his baby.

But, how long can one sustain with these?

Look, now I've already started feeling about speaking like that to her.

'Hey Bayley! Sad?' I heard someone speak from beside me.

It was Savelina. Their suspension period was over a month ago.

'Hey! No. I'm good.' I said.

Sarona stood beside her. 'Come on Bayley! If you're reading in one of the biggest med schools, you are to be ready for some really bad days.' she said. 'Cheetos?' she offered.

I smiled and took one.

Did I say they are being really good to me since being back?

Sarona frowned. 'Just one..?'

'Ugh leave her Sarona! You know her, right?' Savelina smiled. 'She's taking Dr. Reigns' food chart too seriously! No wonder why he loves her the most.. ' she added and Sarona smiled too.

He loves her the most! Wait! What?

'Anyway Bayley! Cheer up! We have a class now. See you around.' Sarona said walking off, Savelina behind her.

They're wrong! Only if they knew I've been the most thrashed student ever! Also, not just him, even his fiancée hates me..

I scoffed sarcastically.

'Don't worry James! I'm sure this girl Regina is just a friend of his..don't worry..' Alexa was explaining to James when I rushed towards their table.

'Sorry I'm late guys and hey! Don't tell me you still didn't share your feelings to Dango?' I asked a sad looking James.

'It isn't easy Bayley. What if he doesn't feel the same way and starts avoiding me mistakes don't want to lose him as a friend.' he said playing with the fork on his salads.

I felt bad for him.

'Aww James!' I hugged him sideways.

'Come on James! Anybody can see the way you and Dango look at each other. Most of the people in the Shield thinks you two as a couple already. Don't worry. He definitely likes you.' Alexa said sipping into her coffee.

I nodded. 'Don't waste more time James. The more late you are, the more you'll suffer due to stupid misunderstandings.' I said.

'She's right James. Do it and when you two make it official, I promise we'll go back to the Chinese restaurant again..' I said.

'...and you'll roll down with the waiter again..' James said chuckling.

Aww! I made his mood.

I still remember that day. I was so puzzled carrying the order and I bumped into... I recalled something.

'You know Lexi, who I almost bumped into today?' I said.

Alexa scoffed. 'Let me guess.. Grumposaurus or his fiancée..!' she said sarcastically.

'His fiancée this time.' I said sheepishly.

'Oh dear!' James slapped his forehead.

'No. The thing is today she was trying to get my parents into the mess again and I spoke back. You know Alexa, I don't like her at all now especially since I know..' I stopped looking around.

Oh dear! How can I forget? I only spoke about that to Alexa few times and no one else is aware of that.

Alexa too gave a suggestive look with a glance pointing to James and taking a sip. James of course had no idea about it.

'... Oh! So, where is she now?' Alexa asked changing the topic.

'Probably doing an ultrasound. She hates when I'm there. So, I came here..' I said truthfully.

'Look Bayley, it's your department and to you, she's just a patient, nothing else. So, why are you running away from your place for her?' Alexa said.

'She's right. She's a nobody to decide if you're the one to be at the Ultrasound room or anyone else.' James said.

Alexa shrugged.

I sighed. 'I get it guys. It's just that she's Dr. Reigns' fiancée and she's carrying his baby. That's the reason I..'

'Do not bother.' Alexa said. 'Whatever they do.. It's their business alright!' Alexa said. 'And..you should not interfere in their personal affairs...whatever it may be..' she said hinting to the topic we just left.

I nodded in understanding. 'Anyway, I guess I must go then. Dr. Reigns might be looking for me.' I sighed standing up.

'Yep. Go..and remember what I said...' Alexa said with a hinting nod. I nodded.

'Bye Bay..' James said.

'Bye James. Bye Lexi..' I said before walking away.

I made my way to the elevator that was of course stuck 4 storeys away, just to remind me of my luck.

I immediately took the way to the staircase and as usual, bumped into so many people. Some said sorry, some just thrashed me. I went up and up until I almost ran into someone with a phone.

Completely his fault. But, me being me..

'Sorry..' I said turning to the guy who seemed to busy with his phone but then, I caught a glimpse of the face of the man.

Dolph! What is he doing here?

'... Don't worry babe! Nobody's gonna see me.' he said to the person on the other line.

Is he speaking to Galina?

I saw him moving towards the fire extinguisher area and I decided to follow him like a creep.

'I know you asked me not to come. But, I was concerned too babe.' that guy said. 'And I don't think Roman would ever come to the place I'm in right now.' he said looking around and I hid behind a big crate.

He's definitely talking to Galina.

'Still, you can't deny my rights babe. I care about you, I care about the health of my child. I'm concerned about you babe.' he said kissing the phone.

No! This can't be.... How..? How can this happen?

'Yes. I know he's taking care of you. But, his attachment to this baby is nothing like mine. He's not the biological father of your baby, it's me. And even though he thinks it's his, he can never feel its flesh and blood like me..' Dolph said.

My head was spinning.

'Fine babe.. I'll not come to the Ultrasound. We'll meet at the park in the evening.'

'Alright. I'll get that..'

'mhm..love you too..'

'Bayley.. Bayley you're okay?' I heard the faint voice of Dr. Lynch

I looked up at her blurred face.

Wait! Looked up..!

I realized I was fallen on my knees near the stairs.

'Bayley! Oh my God! What happened to you? You must have skipped your meals..' she helped me stand up on my feet. My legs were still shaking and I couldn't say anything.

'Come with me. We'll have some coffee and snacks.' she said holding me tight.

I realized I was sweating too. I somehow gathered my voice with all my strength.

'I don't take coffee.' I said.

Roman's P-O-V

'... Bye..' I pecked Galina's lips as she took the elevator.

Like all other times, I wanted to drop her home but she declined. The thing is Lina knows me too well. She knows my commitment to my responsibilities and that's why she just want to distract me. She's always so caring about me and never shows them. That's why I love her.

Dana was going to pick her up. The elevator went down and I too returned to my cabin. And then my eyes fell on Bayley.

Where was she all the while? I was looking for her while doing Lina's ultrasound. I thought it'd be really good if she was here because she was there the last time and she can help me in tracing the development of the baby!

But, of course.. She's gone. Galina told me she saw her and Bayley even trash talked her while they were about to run into each other.

She even questioned Galina if her parents didn't teach her how to walk decently! Can you believe her guts?

But, for some reasons, I feel Galina's version was quite exeggerated. I mean, it's clear that she's not that fond of Bayley. And I think it's her pregnancy swings that's making her hate Bayley more and she's telling all those stuffs.

But, that doesn't change the fact that Bayley has acted litany irresponsible kid by not attending Lina's Ultrasound today. Wait! Today I'll give her a piece of my mind.

'Bayley!' I called her and she looked at me wide eyed as if she was surprised.

'Professor!' she said in the softest tone while walking to me.

'Where were you all this while? Galina was going through her ultrasound sound, didn't you know about it?' I asked sharply.

'Yeah.. Yes Sir.. I..'

'Of course, you did and you even spoke trash to Galina about her parents! And if that wasn't all, you decided to skip her ultrasound just because you don't seem to get along with her..!' I said gritting my teeth.

Bayley shook her head. 'Th.. That's not true. I was about to come but..'

'But, you bumped into someone on the way, right? As usual? When will you take this course seriously, Bayley? Just because I've taken it slightly easy on you, doesn't mean you're gonna do whatever you want and give a stupid excuse for that!' I scolded.

Bayley gulped visibly. 'I.. I'm sorry Sir. Actually..'

'Actually what, huh? What would've happened if you stayed up for Galina's ultrasound? May she would just banter for some time..but, that's because of her pregnancy swings but look at you... You placed your selfish ego above all.. Don't you have any idea about the maintenance of records by a single person?' I couldn't help my anger and started shouting on her.

I saw Mercy, Sarona and Savelina look this way.

Bayley's eyes were gathering tears. Ugh!
