Chapter 2: Awake

The sun started to set on the horizon, and she felt a bit hungry.

She was now sitting on a small pile of leaves she had managed to gather, and several petals from flowers that seemed to bloom from the tree, too. From the height, it was a bit colder than what she would have appreciated, but she decided to make do with the materials around her. Curiously looking over herself again and again, she learned how to control her tail, and be a lot more balanced. With being on the high branches of a massive tree, it was easier to practice there than to just not walk around.

But she couldn't help but notice that, in the distance, seemed to be a village of sorts. However it doesn't seem active at all, even from this height, she could barely see any sort of lighting within the houses, or anyone going out of it. Then again, she is in a massive tree, so it is least likely that she'll notice anything about it.

Glancing around the tree again, she tried to see if anything had recently changed.

The place she was standing on seemed to be a platform, naturally created by the tree itself, and it spread a good distance around as well. Broken items seemed to be on it as well, as she had nearly tripped from a torn bit of leather from some place. She wasn't sure where it came from. And also, there was a sort of metal armour that was too large for her to wear. A chestplate, with what looks to be a hole gouged out from the front chest area. Even if it fit, she would still have had no use for it.

Now that nightfall is coming, she noticed that some of the petals she had brought into the pile were glowing very faintly, or reflecting the light of the sunset. The shadows grew long, and that was when she noticed something.

One shadow seemed to be out of place. It was just a small, almost barely noticeable rectangle shadow on the floor, but there was nothing casting the shadow. Except for the floor in front of it. She cautiously made her way to that section of flooring, and glancing around, she didn't seem to notice any sort of string or item of triggering. And so, digging her nails between the now visible crack under the floor, she heaved upwards.

The square only nudged open a slight bit, but she saw that the trap door expanded to at least her arm span, if not more. She grunted a bit, and finally after a solid ten seconds, she fell back. The door slammed shut once more, and she panted. Her arms felt tense and her fingertips were numb. Taking a deep breath, she kneeled and reached to the door again.

Grasping what she could with her fingers, she began to pry it open once more, and once she could fit her fingers underneath, she inserted her thumbs between the gap of the door and the actual floor. She didn't let go of it, as this was somehow extremely heavy, and with her legs, she lifted quickly. She was able to stand, but she felt as if her arms couldn't lift past the current height. Gritting her teeth, she huffed and kneeled down once more, keeping at the same level she was holding it while standing.

Her shoulders began to ache, and she really felt like letting go. But she was so close. Slowly, she stood once more, keeping the door a bit above her head. There was still much more to be lifted, but she knew she could duck down and fall in.

And that was what she did.

Running into the hole now in the floor, she lost her grip to the edge of the door. As she fell, she noticed small things quickly. The floor was closer than she expected, but she would land on the stairs first. The walls were carved out of the inside of the tree somehow, and the only source of light was from the sun that she had. It lead off into another doorway. She landed onto her feet, but fell forward and hit her head against the edge of the stairs, but she had her arm slightly cushion her fall. A cacophonous slam from above, and the lights disappeared.

Feeling something ring in her ears, she begrudgingly pushed herself to a sitting position. She felt that both her hip and arm aches, but for some reason, she felt as if that pain wasn't the worst she had endured. Blinking some form of sleep from her eyes, she glanced around the room. Even though it was very dark, and she could barely make out the shapes, eventually her eyes adjusted. Her vision became colorless, but she could see.

After the stairs which lead up to the trap door, at the bottom was a smoothed out floor, some punctures in it and scratches from foot movement. Across the hall was a door, currently closed. Nothing else caught her attention.

She stood, wincing as her hip gave a sharp pain, and slowly walked up to the door. As she moved, she managed to notice a strange feeling in the air. As if the air itself was made of some sort of...velvet silk, occasionally draping her completely within this room. However, she hadn't noticed or seen anything interesting. She could breath perfectly fine, there was nothing special about the smell or taste of the air at the moment. She couldn't tell if she had felt it before outside, or this was just a familiar feeling.

She made it to the door, and cautiously felt the handle on her left. She pulled it, and heard a click. Grinning, she pulled the door open, feeling the ache return to her arms once more once doing so.

There was light within the hallway which caused her to squint, but it was dimmed. It was a sphere sort of light, and it almost looked like fire, but it gave off this strange orange glow. Some of it is even red. The orbs seemed to be placed onto the wood, and she doesn't know how it gave off a barely warm energy source. As she looked at this, she then noticed something on the ground. In front of her were several torn papers, some scribbles and stains in separate colors of ink, most black and some were...red?

The torn bits seemed to have been attached to something. Perhaps a book of sorts, and there was a pile of papers and dried fruit off to her right. She cautiously stepped over the papers, and walked further down the hallway. She took a few steps before a crunch came from underneath her foot. She lifted it and saw a thin fish skull, cracked. She sneered and kicked it away from her, it skidding across the floor before stopping with a thump against the wall. She marched forwards, now growing a bit nervous.

She noticed that the further she went, the more spacious the lighting was, and it is all red from that first one at the door. And she watched in mesmerization as it seemed to be pulsing slowly along to some sort of heartbeat. Not hers, but it was a lot more slow. Almost calming.

She turned forward just in time to walk into something. She grunted and, with a surprised look to her face, realized she didn't fall back. Whatever she walked into was sticky and odd. Focusing, it looked like a rope with some sort of glue on it, or it wouldn't be sticky. She shrugged and tried to pull her arm off of it...but for some reason, it was harder than she thought at first. She tried yanking it, and winced as it pulled her skin slightly. She gave a low growl, and tried again. Her clothing was taut against it, and the ropes moved to her struggle.

She then realized part of her hair was stuck, and grimaced at the thought of having to pull some of it off if she had to escape like that. She tried again, gritting her teeth in the ache and stretch that she tried to do, but nothing seemed to work. She then thought of trying to undo her entire body by jumping backwards. She attempted, pushing herself with her legs for boost, but she only rebounded and got herself partially off. But part of her arm was still stuck, and she was pulled back onto the ropes, but she was mostly on her back now.

The red lights seemed to dull a bit, before stopping at such a low light level that she had to widen her eyes to try and adjust. But however she tried, she couldn't seem to activate her dark vision she had. However, as she tried to focus, she internally groaned to herself. Spider webs capture prey like this, she realized, so it must be a spider web created. But a growing feeling of fear filled her chest as she realized that the web she is on is massive. What sort of spider would it be?

She froze at hearing some clicking noises. Glancing around, she managed to notice that there were two small hallways on her right, currently, but she couldn't look too far down it. Grunting, she pulled harder against her arm and back, but she couldn't move too much. The lights dimmed greatly, until it was a dull glow. She could barely see in front of her anymore. Whatever those lights are had made it so that she could see, but couldn't with her darkness vision.

She heard an echoing hiss come from the doorway, and she saw a silhouette that caused her heart to stop for a moment.

It was very tall, almost twice as tall as her. The lower body was a large spider, eight legs clacking against the wooden floor cautiously. Two arms hung from the side of the body, curved claws graced the hands. The upper body...or head area was a skull, resting atop of a backbone of some sort of creature. The skull was larger than hers, and it had two horns atop of it that was mostly straight. Their sockets were dark, but two red irises darted around, and above the right socket was a small triangular crack. The clicking noise was coming from them as they looked towards the direction of which she came, their needle sharp teeth clicking against each other.

She shrinks back when it slowly looked in her direction. She wasn't sure about emotions on a skull face, but the irises were wide, and their posture was tense in general. For what seemed like the longest minute of her life, it stared at her with such intensity that she thought it was going to cause her to burst into flames. However she felt as cold as ice when it approached slowly, taking its time somewhat, before stopping right before her. It lowered its head to her level, and she felt a small, cold pinch at the back of her head. It wasn't physical, but she couldn't tell.

Finally, it reared back and lifted one of its hands, claws extended. She yelped and turned away, closing her eyes. She felt her arm go limp and fall to her side as it sliced away the webbing connecting to it. Immediately after her arm was released, she pulled back her hand and pushed the creature. It didn't move, but she could tell it was surprised because it hissed. Either that, or it was angered, and she couldn't tell which.

She looked up at it when it gave a low hiss and clicks, before moving backwards down the hall, still staring at her. Then it leisurely set itself down, slightly sitting or laying down, the best the spider could do, and stared right at her.

Finally, after another long minute, a voice found its way into the silence. "Are you going to let me free you now?" This voice was very strange. She didn't expect a booming, roaring voice from it, but it sounded smooth and relatively masculine. However, she couldn't tell if it was the loudest voice, because it sounded similar to a whisper, especially with the hissing behind each word.

She blinked, and the creature sighed, "Allison, I don't want to stay here for much longer. I stressed myself over everything just to get you back, so please, just say anything. I don't care if it is stupid, or an insult, or even just a straight up denial. Just say something."

She was confused. It...he, most likely, was addressing her, but her name isn't Allison. She can't even remember her own name. Hesitently, since the being was staring with their dark red eyes, she managed to sputter out, "Wh-who is Allison?"

The being reeled back and hissed, which caused her to flinch. It stopped, but the eyes seemed to show a lot more emotions than the face. The iris became wider by a slight amount, and he shifted his weight more forward than his previous position, "Allison, don't play games with me," He hissed out, the lights slowly becoming brighter, "I nearly tore my shard out of the body just to figure out a way to preserve you, bring you back from the brink of Death. I don't want your stupid games right now, just..." The light dimmed once more as the creature looked downard to their hands, which were clenched.

She looked around nervously. She couldn't escape from the situation at the moment. She needed him to break it in order for her to do anything, action wise. But she couldn't just stay here. She looked at the creature, "I'm....I don't know...." She started, and the cold pinch in the back of her head grew to a headache. She groaned in pain as something flashed before her eyes.

A rectangular frame of some sort, attached to a chain. There was a gem inserted into one of eight slots on the frame. After that image flashed with bright light, another one came to. A silhouette of a dove colored woman, a single dark mark lay on her forehead, and her eyes were darker than the deepest abyss.

"Allison?"

She slowly and dreadfully looked up to the creature, who was now in front of her, holding her free arm gently. Their touch was oddly warm, but the space around them was cold. She shivered involuntarily.

"I looked through your mind, to see if you were telling the truth," The creature began, drawing back their other arm to slash at the webbing near her leg, "I'm sorry I didn't believe you. I could have triggered your death stage again, I am so sorry." He hurried at slashing at the other bits of webbing. When she was freed, she nearly stumbled and fell onto the ground, but he had a hold of her arms and gently placed her onto the ground, but his grip was firm.

"If I let go, and you run, I will catch you." He stated, and she couldn't say anything else after he let go. She felt her wrists and her hair, which still had a bit of webbing in it, and sighed in relief. She watched as he stepped a few paces back before settling himself down in a sitting position once again. Even in that position, he was still two heads higher than her, she noticed, and he was also tapping his claws lightly against the woodwork. Not audible until she strained, but she noticed now that she wasn't fearing for her life.

He spoke, "My name is Skullkid. I am a Makejarie assigned to be one of your soldiers and Guardians in disposal during the war." He started, his teeth occasionally clicking as he spoke, "To bring you up to current times, we are losing greatly. Our army had been scattered to the winds ever since your downfall many day cycles ago. You fell to your death on that very platform you awoke in," He stated, and moved his arm so he could point in an upward direction.

She slowly nodded, and he continued, "After you died, most of the battle was already complete. I refused to leave your side, and many of your friends had been banished outside the battlefield back to their homes...or not. Either way, after a night rise and day rise more of fighting, they eventually retreated, seeing how I had an advantage over them," And he gave a puff of breath, which was surprising for her, because he seemed as if he lacked lungs, "But it was too late. You were dead, and I couldn't have that. So after keeping this place...secured, I went around the abandoned library and searched for a few necromancing spells. After some near death experiences and some unfavorable stances, I...I managed to resurrect you, somewhat."

She looked at her own hands, then at her tail and felt at the strange things on her head, "You mean these? Are these the 'somewhat' parts?" She asked with more courage and curiosity, and less fear since it is wading off as just a general feeling of cold.

Skullkid nodded, and he looked disappointed in general. Whether it was with himself or her, he never said, "Yes. I had to use an already existing soul of a...of a shapeshifter to make sure you were brought back. I never brought back a human, and those records of humans are very little. I brought you back with an exception from that shapeshifter. It was....a trying process. I nearly killed myself in a few spells, but..." He then exposed his teeth partially. They were sharp, but it wasn't bared in a threatening manner. It was almost like a smile. "But you're back. You don't have memories, but you're back."

She felt as if she had been placed in a middle of a battle field with a stick and 'good luck' as her weapons. She leaned slightly against the nearby wall, keeping a distance from the webbing and Skullkid, feeling the throbbing pain in her hip lessen from the fall. She couldn't understand it. It was just thrown at her...then. "How...? Why...? What importance do I have? What war?" She muttered aloud, staring down at the floor.

"Necromancing is within four elements. Life, Undeath, Darkness, and Light, and I work as a Darkness Guardian, so therefore I was able to bring you back...somewhat." Skullkid explained, although his tone of voice was a bit more quick, maybe even rushed, "As for what-who you are...you are our leader. The lead of the Rebellion, Shea Wolf, also you Allison, was to go against the corrupted King of these lands. And then, therefore, the war,"

She felt her head get cold again, but it wasn't painful this time. Images flashed within her head. A tall, dark being covered with a cloak and armour, the shadow falling on half of his face, but he looked human enough.

Then, more images.

Battles on a large field, misty figures leaping from the ground to attack other creatures. She saw a girl with blonde hair and silver armor, further away, slashing and stabbing one of the mist creatures, with a sword that seemed to shine with divine light. Behind her was one of the many misty creatures, but their head was different, and they were a bit taller than most. Their head looked like a skull, and orange pupils flickered in the sockets. They were fighting back to back, and it seemed as if it was growing with each kill they made.

An arrow flying through the air, piercing armour of several misty beings in a row, as a tall, dark grey individual with one eye glistening was firing bolt after bolt non-stop. Another being, seemingly made of fire leaped from behind them, their sword aflame, and with a yell, they slam into the ground, fire exploding out of the sword and singeing opponents. Then two daggers, one trailing a green light and the other an orange, was thrown to an enemy nearby.

She blinked as the vision faded from her sight, and looked up at Skullkid, who was still in the same spot that he was the last time, but his eyes seemed to have dulled. Or the lighting became better, she wasn't sure. Either way, for some reason, she knew that what she saw just then was through the eyes of him, or at least, another memory of a battle. She didn't feel much about it, other than curiosity to those people...things fighting alongside her. There were more, but those were the more prominent at the moment.

She slowly looked around the hall, before asking, "Well...what now?"

Skullkid gained a gleam to his eyes, and she felt a shiver pass through her as he stood to his full height. "I'm going to gather my things, and we will head off to the Temple of Life to, hopefully, gather enough members residing there to travel and gain more power."

She nodded, not sure on how to think this through, but Skullkid lifted his arm slowly and placed a hand onto her shoulder. His eyes glowed for a moment, and this time, reassurance flowed through her as he added, "We'll get through this Allison. I'm with you every step of the way from then, and even after death, I will do it now."

Finally, she sighed, looking up at him. Then, out of some mild happiness, Allison managed to forge a smile to him as well.
