The party was coming to an end and Anurag made an announcement. He told the American guests that it was custom to get blessings from the house elders. Due to this, Anurag invited his father to the party.
Rishabh stopped in his tracks and Prerna was forced to stop with him. She turned to watch his face, and caught him staring at Moloy Basu. With her hand in his arm, she felt his pulse racing and worried about him. She noticed him being frozen, and rubbed a hand down his back almost as a reminder that she was with him.
Moloy was pushed out to the party and he was feeling happy to see his son's work. Anurag made the speech and his helper took him out. Moloy was expecting to be happy when he would see his son's American business associate, but when he came to the center of the room, Moloy was shocked by the first person he saw. He couldn't believe who he was seeing. Moloy was seeing a ghost. It couldn't have been him. Moloy had...
Moloy Basu was wheeled to the front of the party and Rishabh's heartbeat rose. Here he was facing the man who had caused the hell Rishabh had had to go through in his childhood. As Prerna stood beside him, and Jones nearby, Rishabh had to remember that he wasn't currently actively destroying the Basus. But standing in the house brought him terrible memories that he didn't have the heart to face.
The party was officially closed, and Rishabh almost ran to the door. Mehra was quickly following after him.
"Mr. Bajaj, aap thik hai?" Prerna asked.
"H-Haan, I'm fine. It's been a long night," he tried to avoid the subject.
"Mr. Bajaj, main ne aap se pehle bhi kaha tha, aap ko nahi aana chahiye tha."
"I'm fine, Mehra. Aap Ms. Sharma ko wapis unke ghar chod dein. I'll drive home myself," Rishabh said once they got to the cars.
"Actually, ghar pe koi bhi nahi hai. Sabh bhabi ke ghar invited thhe. Toh, main aap ke saath ghar aa jaati hoon," Prerna quickly suggested.
"As you wish," Rishabh said and headed for the driver seat but Prerna stopped him.
"Mr. Mehra, aap drive kar lein, please," she asked Rishabh's manager.
Mehra smiled at her being considerate. "Of course, ma'am," he opened and closed the door for her and went to the driver seat.
Rishabh stared out the window the whole time, and Prerna stared at him. Since before she had met him, Prerna had only heard certain things about him. That he was a ruthless businessman who didn't have a heart. A shark out for blood. But the man sitting beside her was close to having a panic attack, and Prerna didn't know what to do.
They came home and Rishabh went straight up to his room, leaving Prerna behind. Prerna went to the kitchen and had the staff warm up some leftovers for dinner since they hadn't eaten at the party. While Mrs. Briganza warmed the food, Prerna went up to change.
Mr. Bajaj wasn't in the room, and she changed before going to find him. She had to get a way to take care of him, and only knew one way she could trick him. She walked around the top floor and found him in his office smoking.
"Aap cigarette pi rahe hain!?" She asked.
Rishabh was startled and turned to look at her come in. "Cigar hai," he clarified, but she took the drug from him and put it out.
"Jo bhi hai, smoke tho hai na? Pehle kam blood pressure high hai aapka?"
"Ms. Sharma I'm not in a good mood tonight. Aap ko kuch chahiye tha?"
"Haan. Woh, mujhse blood pressure monitor chal nahi raha tha. Agar aap usse dekh lete to..." Prerna suggested, and he left the study to go to his room.
He found the machine on the bed and set it up. "Do you know how to use it?"
"Nahi. Kabhi pehle kiya nahi hai," she said, and sat by to watch him.
Rishabh sighed and demonstrated, but she made him actually use the machine so she could learn how to use the numbers. He tested himself and he told her the numbers. She asked him what they meant, and he had to honestly tell her that it was high.
"Lo, mera bhi high hai. Mujhe Ka... I mean, Mrs. Basu se pata nahi kya problem hai. Bas wohi aik hai... You know what? Iss bare mein baat kar ke meri aur tabiyat kharaab ho rahi hai."
"Aap, khana kha lein. Party mein ziyada khaya nahi tha aap ne," Rishabh suggested and went to change in the bathroom.
While Rishabh was taking a long shower, Mrs. Briganza called to tell her the food was ready, but Prerna made her bring the food upstairs.
Rishabh came out of the bathroom in his pajamas and robe, and was surprised to see Prerna eating on the bed. He had rules in his house, she knew that, and right now she was breaking one.
"Aap, are you eating in bed?" He asked, shocked.
Prerna looked at him like it was no big deal. She passingly ate a chip. "Haan? Party bohot lambi thi and I'm tired. Niche jane ka mann nahi kiya toh yahan snacks mangwa liye."
"This isn't helping my blood pressure, Ms. Sharma," he said, and Prerna laughed.
"Problem fix karne ki koshish hi toh kar rahi hoon. Aap apni taraf baithain," she motioned to his side of the bed.
"No thanks," Rishabh rejected the offer. "Main bed mein nahi khaata."
"Khaane ko kisne kaha hai? Aap baithein toh sahi. Hum movie dekhte hain. Comedy. Kuch toh mann halka ho jaye ga mera bhi aur aapka bhi."
After much resistance, Prerna managed to get Rishabh on the bed. He refused to eat but she didn't insist. They watched The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. Prerna joked about how she had a crush on Ryan, and teased him about if he had a thing for Sandra.
Before the movie finished, Prerna was asleep. Since they were sitting close, her head was on his shoulder. Rishabh reached his arm over her to get the remote to turn off the tv. Prerna shifted in discomfort and instinctively Rishabh's hand rested on her stomach. The baby moved towards his touch and Prerna moved again.
"Mumma ko sone do aap, baby," Rishabh scolded. "You're lucky aap ko itni acchi mom mili hain. Shaayad abhi unhe pata nahi ho ke aapki kaise take care karni hai, but she's a new mom, na? Give her a break. But I know this, jabh aap iss world mein aao ge, then she'll take really good care of you. Jaise woh Kukki ki take care karti hain."
As he talked, both him and the baby fell asleep.
"Papa!"
Kukki was crying, reaching out for him as he grabbed his bag.
"Papa jaldi ghar aa jaeinge, Kukki. He has to go to work! Chalo, bye bolo!" Sia picked up Kukki and made her say bye.
"No! Kukki papa saath go!" Kukki whined.
"I know! I'm so sorry papa can't take you," Rishabh didn't pick her up, or he wouldn't be able to leave. He instead kissed her cheek. "But jab main wapis aaunga, phir hum candy land jaeinge! How's that idea?"
Kukki was happy and Sia was smiling. "Okay. Papa come back!"
Rishabh kissed her again. "That's my girl. Papa will be back really soon, okay? I love you."
He kissed Sia and kissed her belly before picking up his suitcase to leave again. He was at the door and he turned to say one last goodbye.
Somehow, he was now standing at the top of the stairs, and instead of Sia, it was Prerna with Kukki. She was squatting next to the little girl, trying to make her say goodbye to her father. Since she was busy, Prerna didn't see Moloy coming towards her.
Rishabh felt in his heart that something bad was going to happen, but he had no voice. He screamed at Prerna and tried to run towards her, but his voice box was gone and his feet were stuck to the floor.
He watched helplessly as Moloy pushed Prerna down the railing.
"Prerna!" Rishabh woke up with a gasp. It took him a minute to realize where he was.
Prerna had rolled off him onto her side of the bed. Rishabh calmed himself down and then made sure the blanket was on her properly so she wouldn't catch a cold at night.
Rishabh got off the bed and sighed. What was happening to him? He loved Sia. He would never love anyone ever again. Every time he had nightmares, it was with Sia. How could he be seeing Prerna?
No, he tried to convince himself. He had made a deal. She was only here to take care of his daughter, and on his end, he would take care of her baby until she could stand on her own feet.
Yes. This was all it would be. A service to humanity. Nothing else. He couldn't let it be.
