Revenge Is Best Served Cold
Chapter 8:
Adrien's Perspective:
I couldn't believe my eyes. The smooth white letter looked pretty on the outside, but on the inside it was a threat. A threat for Marienette. Why would anyone do such a thing, everybody loves her. Except for two people, Chloe and Lila.
I stopped looking at the paper and looked over at Marinette. Her hands were shaking and she wasn't looking at me anymore.
"Marinette," I called out to her and hugged her tight.
She was still shaking.
I haven't even told her the contents of the letter, but she was already petrified. Was she in some kind of trouble?
I was still hugging her when someone with a familiar voice entered the room.
"Yeah! Nino co-" Alya saw us and stopped dead on her track. She stared wide-eyed at me and silently snapped a photo of us. "I told you he likes her!" she whispered a little too loudly into Nino's ear.
Marientte pulled away from my grasp then. I moved my body to see her face, but tears were rolling down her cheeks.
Any brink of amusement left Nino and Alya and worry replaced it.
"What happened?" Nino asked.
"It's.... it's just a letter," Marientte whimpered.
"GIVE ME THE DAMN LETTER RIGHT NOW," Alya.
I immediately gave her the letter.
Geez, she scares me sometimes.
"I'll find the culprit soon, I promise. But for now, don't worry too much about it Mari." Alya patted Marientte's back and comforted her.
Marinette nodded and we went for lunch.
Marinette's Perspective:
While Alya held the letter, I read it with her.
They tried to comfort me and they told me to forget this happened for now. So, I tried, I really tried, but I just can't. Did I do something wrong? Was I a bad person? Maybe I deserved it.
In the letter, someone wrote 'revenge is a dish best served cold' in a red marker.
This couldn't be real right? Maybe it was a sick prank and I could resume my normal life soon.
They brought me to my parent's bakery. Adrien had his hand on my shoulder the entire ride to make sure I was okay, but I didn't even realise it until he removed it. I just felt grateful for having friends like that.
They cracked jokes the entire ride and laughing made me feel better.
"Did you see Lila's face? Honestly, I would pay money to see that again!" Nino said. He was laughing hysterically while holding Alya's hand.
We entered my parents' bakery and took some macarons and headed to the park to eat lunch.
We sat in the carousel while eating our food waiting for school to open.
Alya sat with Nino and I sat next to Mr. Cutie, Adrien. I suddenly wondered what he would look like shirtless. Would he have abs? I shook my head and got rid of these thoughts.
"So what do you have for lunch?" Adrien said, unintentionally distracting me with his handsome features.
"Oh.. um- well I have a peni-sroissant with cheese and jam with some chicken and water!" I said.
I realized that Adrien only had a bottle of water and a single piece of
Fish.
"Umm... Adrien? Is that all you have for lunch?" I asked.
"Uhh- yeah- I know it seems like it's nothing, but my dad prefers that I don't eat a lot, so that I maintain my "bOOtiful" figure," he replied, playing with his food.
It was disheartening to see that Adrien couldn't even have control of his own eating.
I decided to cheer him up a bit. Seeing Adrien sad made my heart ache. I'd take some of that pain away if I could.
"Umm.. I have an idea since that's not a lot of food for you, do you want a peni-sroissant from my bakery?"
Adrien's face brightened up.
"Yes, I would love too, but I don't... want to bother," he replied. He looked down again.
I quickly added, "Pffft, I'm sure they don't mind."
We headed to the bakery while Nino and Alya played cards.
"Hi, mom and dad!" I gave them a big hug.
"Sweetie! What are you doing here?" my dad asked.
"Well is it okay if I give Adrien a peni-sroissant, he forgot his lunch?" I said.
"Well, of course, no worries Adrien!" my mom replied.
My dad prepared the peni-sroissant while I chatted with Adrien.
"Here you go!" My dad gave Adrien an entire bag of peni-sroissant.
"Thank you, Mister Dupain-Cheng and Miss Dupain-Cheng! I really appreciate it," he said, a big smile illuminating his face.
We headed back to the park and ate lunch while playing UNO.
Adrien and I took our lunch and brought it over to where Alya and Nino were at.
While we were going there we could hear Alya screaming and hopping.
"HAHAHA UNOOOOOOOO!" she yelled doing her happy dance while eating a mouthful of pop rocks.
"You cheated!" Nino yelled. He looked angry, but he was being playful.
"Hey, guys!" Adrien called out while we settled down.
"Hey dude, wanna play with us?" Nino asked.
"Sure!" I replied.
We played the first round and I went to drink my water but stopped when something bubbled. I remembered how much Alya loved Pop Rocks and she might have put some in my drink. Kind of dishGushTing.
We played for a while and we had lots of fun.
"I won again!"Alya yelled.
"No fair!" Nino complained.
"Yeah right, it's just that I'm too good at this game!" she replied.
"Well I would love a rematch but we have to get back to class guys," Adrien chimed in.
"Right, ugh," Alya groaned.
###
We quickly changed to our P.E uniforms in our locker room.
"So where did you guys go, huh?" Alya teased.
"Alya! We didn't do anything, I just gave him a... croissant."
Alya gave me a look that said she didn't believe a word I just spouted.
"Girl, please don't tell me that your way to flirt with him was through a freaking croissant," Alya scolded.
"No! He didn't have anything for lunch! And it was a peni-soissant. It's different, okay?! I yelled.
"You sure about that?" she asked.
"ALYA!"
"Fine shhh, sorry!" She was still laughing at me.
"Let's just get to class," I grumbled.
"Girl, add some spice into your life," she winked.
We exited the locker room, but my vision started to get hazy. I wasn't sure I was walking in a straight line.
I tightly shut my eyes and waited for it to pass.
"Marinette, are you ok?" Alya asked.
"Yeah, it's just my head hurts a little," I replied, yawning. Maybe it was from the exhaustion.
"Girl, I don't think you're ok." She put a hand on my shoulder.
"I'll go to our class, I have some medicine in my bag," I told her.
"Alright then, be careful though."
I went inside the classroom and saw Nino and Adrien talking with Alya.
Alya's Perspective:
Something is definitely up with this girl.
"Hey! Um... where is Marinette going?" Adrien asked while looking at Marinette going up the stairs.
"Uh- her head hurts, so she's gonna go and get some medicine," I told them.
"Oh- is she ok?" Adrien asked, worry lacing his words.
I shoved Nino with my elbow, so he paid more attention.
"I'm sure she's ok dude, if she doesn't come back in a few minutes you can go check if she's ok!" he replied while slinging an arm around Adrien's shoulders.
"Uh.. sure," Adrien replied, slightly confused.
I honestly love doing this to Adrien.
Marinette would freak out when I tell her that he got this worried for her.
###
Marinette's Perspective:
I tried going up the stairs, but I felt my legs weighing heavier with each step.
Gosh, what was wrong with me!
"Marinette! Are you ok?" asked a worried Tikki.
"Yeah-I'll just go and take some medicine," I said, my eyes half-closed.
Marinette stay awake!
"Uhh- Marinette, you're not ok, I can feel it," she said.
"It's ok Tikki, I'll get some medicine and I'll be ok." I tried to sound reassuring, but Tikki didn't look too convinced.
I arrived at class again, but I couldn't even walk straight anymore.
Marinette! You can do it, go get your bag.
I walked with half confidence but ended up slipping.
"Marinette!" Tikki yelled.
"I-I Tikki-" I mumbled.
"No, Marinette!"
I am pretty sure my body was asleep, but my mind was racing a thousand miles per hour.
But why?
My eyes were closed and I could feel Tikki trying to move my hand to no avail.
I felt someone rustling my bag.
I could hear some footsteps and I felt a shadow on top of me
"That's what you get bitch," said a familiar voice. The name was on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn't grasp it.
A few seconds passed and I fainted.
