Chapter 8: Robin and Daigo

Yet again, the two were waiting for their matches. Seriously, if Robin didn't believe in fate, she'd say fate had some ship between them.

This time, they were going against each other, and she couldn't say why, but Robin was nervous.. Shu had easily won his match in seconds. Valt had a ton more trouble with Wakiya, but he pulled through in the end. Now it was onto the next round. Daigo versus Robin

Robin closed her eyes and leaned back, her heart thumping hard inside her. She wondered if Daigo was having this problem.

I'm don't know what to so. I guess Daigo's a friend, and I guess I want him to win a little, but I also want to win. Should I throw the match, or fight my hardest, or-

You really think you have a choice? Daigo would be pretty upset if you threw the match. He would be much happier if you gave it your all.

OK. I've got this...

She took a deep breath and forced her heart to slow down. Breath in, breathe out breathe in...

Daigo:

Breathe out breathe in breathe out.

Little do you know,

Im tryna pick myself up piece by piece

Little do you know I need a little more time.

Please stop listening to that song. Four days ago, you wouldn't even listen to music. You need to focus! As your beyblade, I have to say your driving me nuts, Kurogami!

How? I've never had this much trouble before.

Can I go on strike? You're impossible.

Yes. Congrats for noticing. Only took you three years.

I think you like the Kurenai, Doomscyther smirked.

Daigo closed his eyes, and resumed trying to breathe normally.

Robin:

"Red corner in twenty seconds, Robin Kurenai," the stage manager said to her, then turned and left. She stood up and breathed slowly. Robin had no idea why she was having doubts about Daigo. Maybe it was because of the one talk they'd had yesterday. He thought just like her, was basically the other side of the coin. Except slightly less dangerous, so maybe the dulled side of a blade. Okay, she was thinking way too much about this.

Robin closed her eyes and stepped up. Ready or not, she was coming.

"In the blue corner, it's Daigo Kurogami!" The crowd cheered as Daigo stepped out, his face a set mask of calm. "And in the red corner, Robin Kurenai!" Robin's heart beat faster as she walked slowly towards the center.

"Two best friends, but only one of them can triumph! Who will win?"

Best friends was a little much, and she knew Daigo thought the same thing. She wanted to say something, anything, but nothing came out. He was still calm. Was she the only one feeling like this?

No words were exchanged between then.

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

"Let it... rip!"

Doomscyther landed smoothly and zoomed around the edge of the stadium. Phoenix landed in the center, circling the innermost ring. The spin was slightly slower than usual, not that anyone noticed. Except Daiog, of course, who thought she'd done a mislaunch.

"Attack!" Daigo yelled, his aura starting to flare up with excitement.

"Left," Robin commanded, and Doomscyther flew past it. The circle pattern most defense type beyblades used actually worked well.

"Again!"

"Right. Circle." Phoenix kept circling the inner ring, dodging again and again, yelling at Robin for not letting her attack.

Daigo almost looked surprised to find Phoenix was slowing down. "One last time, Doomscyther!"

Doomscyther rushed in, and this time, it landed a solid hit on the energy layer. Phoenix flew out of the stadium so fast Robin had to duck to avoid being hit in the face.

"Ring out finish for Daigo Kurogami! The score is one to zero!"

Daigo clenched his teeth as the crowd cheered. He glared at the girl across from him, who didn't seem surprised.

"Did you throw that match?" Daigo demanded. She was quiet, weighing the prod and cons of telling him a lie. "Did you?"

Robin's shoulders curled inward, just a little. An admission. He understood that well enough. "Neither of us wants the other to lose, Robin! But the only way I'm going to battle you is when you give it your all! I don't care if you want me to win instead of you! Let our skills decide instead!"

Robin blinked at his outburst. He was normally so calm, taking every cold comment or pointed stares without a flinch. Why did thisake him tick? Or was it just his breaking point? "Gess I forgot. I... I mean, sorry." She took off her black and silver jacket and tied it around her waist. Under her jacket was a red shirt with part of the sleeve cut off, so her shoulders were exposed. He wanted full power? Fine.

She bowed at the waist, not a dramatic gesture, but a respectful one. For once, she was being respectful. "I'm sorry, Daigo. But," Robin grinned, the first genuine smile in a long time. "I'm going to have to crush you now."

"Second battle!" the referee called.

"Three"

"Two!"

"One!"

"Let it.. Rip!"

Doomscyther landed hard and shot straight across the center, probably trying to hit Phornix before it lanfed. Sadly for him, Phoenix nearly landed on it when the bey reached the other side.

Daigo smiled slightly. She was trying now.

"Phoenix, take center," Robin said. Phoenix swerved around an attack, and found the middle. "Good."

"Attack! Shock boost!" Daigo yelled. Robin looked confused as Dark Doomscyther slammed up against the wall at an angle, flew into the air, and smashed down near the middle. The girl could feel the powerful shockwaves. That was probably where the name came from. The goal of that was likely to knock a bey off balance for the next attack. Just great.

"Hold your ground," she murmured. "Just a little more."

"Attack again!" Daigo cried, aura sparking up.

"Wait for it...wait..." Robin muttered. When the bey was an inch from her's a look of horror came over Robin's face. Daigo grinned. Then, Robin's bey tilted towards the ground, and flipped the other way. Robin laughed at the look on Daigo's face. "Now!"

Daigo's bey spiraled up, knocked the side of the stadium, and wobbly, came down for another attack. Robin was fairly surprised it hadn't burst, but took it in stride as she yelled to her own wobbly bey, "Phoenix! Knock it out!" A few red sparks flickered around her, the only part of her auras she could see. She saw this just before Phoenix got to Doomscyther. Her bey knocked Daigo's against the wall several times before using the wall to bounce into the air and slam down on Doomscyther.

Doomscyther burst.

Daigo stared at the pieces in utter shock. Phoenix had done a flip after trying to knock his bey out of the stadium. There was no way it could've recovered like that, but it had. There was no place it should have been able to draw energy from.

Robin put her hand in the arena. Phoenix, still moving, leapt into her palm.

"Rise Phoenix with a burst finish! Robin Kurenai wins the match with a score of two to one!" She turned to the crowd and raised her left hand in victory. They cheered, and Robin found a hand on her shoulder.

"Thank you, Robin," Daigo said very quietly."Even if I did lose, this was exactly what I wanted. Guess Doomscyther was right." He gave her a smile a real one, then slipped off to the waiting room, leaving her wondering what Doomscyther had said.

AHHH! I've been off for two whole days! NOOO!!!! Yeah, sorry about that. I really need to post more. Lui will never forgive me.

Also, thank you for reading this. Even if you don't comment, thank you so much. It really makes me happy during the day- i.e school. Thank you so much!

Robin out!
