Chapter 43: Robin

Okay, so when I wrote this,it sounded way better in my head. It probably won't live up to expectations, but hopefully it's decent as the climax of this story.

Please tell me waht you think in the comments

On with story!

Robin:

She had reviewed her sorta-plan over and over since she had woken up. Everything was in place, and even though Robin's energy hadn't hit a hundred percent yet, she would be in no danger of burning out. Though she had a couple weeks until she could go back to the dojo, she had been keeping up with her training, so that part was taken care of.

Robin's plan was the Ultimate Descendant's Trial.

The way it worked was one Descendant could challenge another sorta like knights. They threw a gauntlet/glove on the ground and stated their challenge. Then, shields went up around the audience, because these rare occasions tended to get a little dangerous for bystanders, and the two fighters had to be ready to be sore in the morning. The ref, who would be a Descendant with shielding powers, would call the match. They launched their beyblades, then used the area around the stadium to fight with both fists and powers. Spells were allowed. There were no ring out finishes in this battle. If one person was unconscious, the other won. If a beyblade burst, the other person won. One mistake could be their last, because there were no redos.

In this game, it kept going until one person lost.

No exceptions.

Robin had never done this before, but neither had Lui. This was the only way she could have even footing with him, and if she lost to that shark-headed jerk, she planned to take him to hell and back first.

Phoenix, you gonna be alright fighting on your own?

Oh please, she replied, puffing out her chest. I've been winning battles centuries before you were born. I'll be fine.

Robin nodded slightly. Then let's do this. Thank god commentary isn't allowed in Trials, else I might blow something up.

Ha.

"The last battle! In the blue corner, it's the champion himself! Lui Shirosagi!"

He stepped out grinning, hair flaming and teeth bared. White smoke billowed around him. Dramatic entrance indeed. But just wait until you see what I've got planned.

"And the rising prodigy, burning through her competition! Robin Kurenai!"

She smiled at the clapping people on her side. More people who wanted her to win was good. Everyone was cheering, but Robin refused to be distracted.

Lui grinned at her as Robin got to the stadium. "Well, I could do with a warm-up round." He glanced at her hand. "Wearing your brother's glove? Pathetic."

"Actually," Robin cut in, matching his wicked smile and turning her voice to ice. "You might want to consider that." She tugged off the glove and raised her voice.

Hanami gasped. "Is she..."

"Lui Shirosagi, I challenge you to the Ultimate Descednant's Trail!"

And she threw the glove to the floor.

Lui gaped in total surprise, and that alone was the best gift she could ask for. Several phone flashes told her she wasn't alone in that thought.

He recovered quickly and smirked. "Are you seriously this desperate to lose? Tch. I'll give you chance to take it back."

Her voice was colder than the ice she used to spell-create. "Why don't you pick it up? I mean, the great Lui couldn't possibly be scared, right?" She waited a beat before continuing her onslaught of words. "Oh, it is! Lui Shirosagi is afraid he might lose! Hah!"

"OKAY, I ACCEPT, JUST SHUT UP!" He snatched the red glove off the ground. "HAPPY? NOW GET READY FOR YOUR DOWNFALL, LOSER!"

Hanami called out the basic warnings. "The Ultimate Descendant Trail doesn't stop until a bey bursts or a person forfeits or is unconscious, so please turn away if you don't want to watch."

Several little kids probably left the building like the wimps they were. She was the one who was going to get beat up, not them!

Shields went up around the audience, glittering and subtly reflecting the light as the ref came onstage.

"Sync!" he called out. That meant to get out their beyblades, get ready to launch. It also meant to merge the souls of the blade and the wielder, in basic terms. Both would feel what the other felt, but otherwise be fighting separately. Their energy would intertwine, etc, etc, etc.

Robin exhaled and closed her eyes, tightening her grip around the new launcher. Ready?

You bet. Just don't get distracted.

Understood. Good luck to you, Phoenix.

And you, Robin.

"Three!"

This was their moment. All of them.

"Two!"

The Kurenais would win somehow.

"One!"

Because Robin did not care about that unknown future. She would not lose.

"Let it... rip!"

She had gone with a blindfolded, right-handed Sky launch. It had the most power she could muster, and the moment the beyblade left the launcher, her eyes snapped open. For once, she landed on the ground perfectly.

Lui came at her immediately, hands blazing with blue fire. Robin inhaled and sang quickly as she pulled for emotions in the crowd.

When

When the fire's at your

Feet again.

Add the vulture's all start

Circling.

They're whispering,

"You're out of time,"

But still I rise.

Her search for emotions, as she dodged the first punch and threw a hook, landed on Xander. His was rapidly switching from fear (for her) to jealousy (for her) to embarrassment (from being jealous) to excitedness (for his student) and circled over and over.

Fire exploded from her body, meeting Lui's fists in a shield of sparks. Thank god nothing was flammable here, else the place would be scorched barren in seconds.

He stumbled backwards, a mask of fury on his face. Robin tilted her head, amused. "Such a great warm up, Shirosagi."

The fire was burning through her now, made her feel stronger. Lui howled in rage and attacked faster and faster.

Block.

Block.

Block.

He threw a feint and then kicked her in the stomach. She cried out and missed a beat, staggering and receiving a blow to the face. Blood trickled down her face, but it didn't hurt anymore. It numbed quickly, and when the next fist came, Robin grabbed it, ducked and tossed him over her shoulder. He hit the ground flat on his back and shot to his feet, coughing. She knew from experience that if the person fast and good at the throw, would be knocking the wind out of anyone.

A shower of sparks cut through her thinking. Robin! You're using energy too fast! Phoenix gasped for breath, and she caught a glimpse of a lovely fire-bird circling an icy but magnificent dragon. It's talons slashed across her bey's face, and the synced bladers cried out simultaneously. Fire swirled from Robin's hands as she went on the offensive. Words leapt off her tongue, and it felt so natural Robin nearly laughed. Fire swirled in a storm around her, red and orange and gold.

Lui's hair blazed higher, wrapping him in blue armor of his own. "You can't beat me," he told her, but he didn't sound as confident anymore.

Then she was on the offensive, grabbing his boa and darting behind him. Their fires clashed against each other as Robin tugged.

He bellowed an insult, voice strained as she choked him. Lui's teeth dipped down suddenly, and the fluffy scarf snapped.

Some sudden pain snapped from her arm as she looked down. Dry, cracked skin was beginning to split apart.

Her hoodie was beginning to catch fire, so Robin yanked it off and whipped it at her adversary. Using the distraction to her advantage, she dove at his feet, tackling him to the ground and using her annoying long fingernails to dig a little of his skin. On instinct and logic, she dipped her finger into the blood and set it ablaze.

Lui cried out and kicked her in the face. That she deserved.

I can't let him get up. I have the advantage right now, because he's acting on instinct. I have training.

She pounced, grabbing his arm and falling backwards next to his head. Since he didn't have any training, he had no idea what Robin was doing.

So when she put him in an arm bar and choke at the same time, he had no idea what to do. Her foot snaked over his throat and her other leg crossed over her foot, tightening the noose. She grinned. Ironically, this was the first move taught to her by Yugo Nansui. Robin figured she'd have to thank him later.

But why exactly wasn't this stupid guy out yet?

Then she yelped as teeth dug into her skin. Robin scrambled back in record time.

A ching made her realize her armor just broke. Lui took the opportunity to punch her in the face again. She gritted her teeth against the pain and punched back, adding a few sparks to it.

Phoenix fed her an idea that she'd witnessed before. Once, my owner temporarily blinded his enemy with sand. Can you do the same with...

Yeah!

A sudden flash made her start to "auto battle" as she checked with Phoenix. This made her do the attacks and defenses that were the most natural to her.

The phoenix and the dragon were both seriously scratched up. Luinor's claws were scorched by sparks, his breathtaking scales covered with soot and ash. Phoenix wasn't exactly much better, left wing covered with frost, glistening plumage ruffled and some plucked out. They collided twice more, then Phoenix broke away and jumped up on the outer ring. Her wing beat unsteadily as she rose for another attack.

A tackle took her by surprise, enough so she focused on herself again. Her head bounced off the ground and Lui was chucking fireballs at her face.

If she had put up her shield even a second later, Robin would have been minus one eye. As it was, keeping the fire up wasn't exactly easy. The only healing spell she knew took too much energy to make it effective, so she scrambled back to her feet and took a quick look around. Robin was way too close to the edge for comfort. If she fell off, there was a good chance she'd be K.O'ed. She sprinted back to the beystadium and yelled to Rise Phoenix, "Revive Function! Go!"

The frost melted off her, and the bird rose up again with a lot more speed. Her world receded to black and white, and it was an effort to focus on her target.

It was going to get a lot more difficult to win this, if she was already feeling tired.

Lui and Robin attacked at the same time Luinor and Phoenix did. The first two circled each other at a close distance, throwing different fire attacks.

Luinor exhaled fire and Phoenix slashed with her claws, both dealing critical damage.

And explosion of energy came from the center of the stage area, and all four of them were thrown back.

Two chiming noises issued, ringing through Robin's slowing thoughts. Both beys snapped into three pieces, and the two humans crashed into the doorways at the same time.

"Simultaneous burst finish!" the ref called.

Robin's breath came quickly, and her only relief was that Lui's was too. If there were no points, they'd have to do this again.

She picked up Phoenix slowly. Alright?

I'm good, Ramos lied. You?

I'll do this a hundred times if we have to, Robin told her bravely.

She tilted her head to look at Daigo. He looked pale, but the neko nodded at her. How hard must it have been to watch her get injured and not intervene?

Maybe staying here was just as hard as leaving for him.

"Sync!" the ref called.

She braced herself for another battle.

"Three!"

Because she couldn't afford to lose. She was a Kurenai, and she was going to win this for all of them.

"Two!"

For Xander, for Valt, for Shu, for Daigo, for everyone who got their lives destroyed with that single chime of a burst bey.

"One!"

Their eyes met, angry violet to hazel brown. Robin smiled.

"Let it... rip!"

yee! I think I did alright on the last part.

Next chapter coming soon!maybe

The song consistantly used in this story (if you can find the lyrics in the other chapters, comment) is above! I loved it, so I tried to make the cliche singing thing into something less cliche.

Robin out!
