Chapter 42: Valt
Valt:
Zac and Gabe were up next.
I breathed a sigh of relief, quietly. I was pretty glad it wasn't Robin. She needed all the rest she could get. Currently, the female Kurenai was curled up, sleeping with her head on Daigo's lap. He was stroking her hair.
Now I'm jealous! Valkyrie yelled. I want a hot boyfriend too! Shu's pretty cute...
I was instantly annoyed. Don't even try it, tiny!
Who'ya calling tiny?
You!
She burst out laughing. There we go! Finally, you're interesting!
I decided to ignore that and focus on the match.
Currently, the two were exchanging words, but I was too far away to hear them. The girl that was against Zac before, the one with the cherry hair--
That's a boy! And his hair is pink! Not cherry!
Yeah, him. He was cheering for Zac as loud as most of the Sunshine Fans. For some reason, he scowled at Akira-- at least I think that's what his name was-- and he shut up.
I didn't really know either of them well, so I didn't pay much attention to the match.
To my surprise, well, everyone's, it was three-two in the Sunshine's favor. Gabe got a burst finish the first round, and Zac came back with a ton more power, getting a ring out finish and a burst.
Why were you surprised? Valkyrie chided. It was inevitable that she was going to--
ZAC IS A BOY, OKAY?!
She feigned confusion. Are you sure? Did you check?
Zac sad he was a boy, and I trust him. AND NO I DIDN'T CHECK, YOU DIRTY MINDED BEYBLADE!
"Ten minute break!" Hanami yelled. "Then the final match will start!"
Daigo shook Robin awake gently. She mumbled sleepily, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "I'm awake, I'm awake... wutsgoingon?"
Shu tilted his head in her direction. "Ah, good. She's up. How do you plan on destroying Lui?"
She yawned. "With a glove."
Valkyrie started laughing.
Shu glared at her. "Take this seriously. If you don't, you may as well forfeit now."
Robin was suddenly awake and alive. "I am taking this seriously! You may not understand, but I've been practicing dawn to dusk for this! Don't tell me I'm not taking this seriously! I a match for him, not you, and I would never tell the likes of you my plan!" Anger blazed in her eyes, and Daigo hissed suddenly.
I felt it at the same time as him, the hatred and guilt of a wound still not healed twisting it's way into my heart. I yelped. "Stop it!" all of us yelled at the same time.
Robin flinched and took a few slow breaths, and the weird emotions that weren't mine were gone. "Sorry."
"If you can't even control your power, how are you supposed to fight the most powerful blader in Japan!" My boyfriend roared in frustration. He threw his remaining glove on the ground, and stomped out.
That was a lot more emotional than he usually was, which worried me. I was also a bit worried about that sudden crack I heard earlier during Shu and Wakiya's match.
I jumped out of my seat and ran after him.
"Shu! Wait up!" I called.
He just increased his pace, and god, why is he so FAST? We were basically sprinting through empty hallways and I was having difficulty not crashing into walls. Shu turned a corner. I charged forwards--
And faceplanted on top of Shu, who had apparently faceplanted on top of Quon.
"Owww...." I winced as I stood up. "Sorry, guys."
The other two got to their feet. Shu looked exhausted from running from me at a gazillion miles per hour, while Quon was checking to make sure his skateboard was alright. Why was he even skateboarding inside anyways?
"It's fine," they said at the same time.
Quon put his skateboard on the ground and was about to leave before I remembered that I lost to him. If Lui beat Robin-- which, if I was being honest with myself, he probably would, I might not be able to beat him. But Quon was one of the people I hadn't been able to beat, so... if I could beat him, I had a chance at Lui. "Wait!"
He turned around, neatly tucking his board away in the same motion. "Yeah?"
"Battle me!" I yelled with as much enthusiasm as I could.
He winced, and my albino boyfriend faceplanted again. "Stop screaming. And I don't see the point. You haven't gotten much better."
Shu's reaction was pretty fast. He was off the ground in a second, glaring daggers at him silently.
"Well, you don't know that!" I protested, trying to keep Shu from committing homicide. "You can test me!"
He gave in, probably to save his ears. I have that gift. "Fine."
We went over to a nearby stadium. Shu followed us silently, taking out his own beyblade and staring at it.
I remembered how Quon had won before: that flip move, like his skateboard.
How could I counter that without Revive Function?
Wait. I had learned something new. When I fought Xander, I used this random move, something like stepping back a lot. Maybe, if it could take down Xander, it could take down Quon.
"Three!" I stepped back a ton.
"Two!" Started running forwards.
"One!" My foot braced against the ground and my fingers tensed on the ripcord.
"Let it... rip!"
Valkyrie dropped into the stadium at top speed, leaving a long trail of blue energy behind her. Quetizko captured the center the moment it landed. I didn't have a gazillion moves like Shu did, who was looking intently at the battle, so I had to come up with something quick.
Any ideas?
Hmm. Rush the center. Make him use his special moves as fast as you can.
"Rush Launch!" I yelled. Valkyrie swerved towards the center faster than I could see and let loose a barrage of attacks. Finally, after somewhere around a million tries, Quetikzo went flying. I crossed my fingers, hoping for a ring out finish, but he used that special flip move instead.
Well, that worked at least, Valkyrie decided. Uhh... what now?
The great Valkyrie doesn't know? I thought back, enjoying my moment. How incredible! Someone pinch me!
Shut up or I will pinch you! Now what do I do?
"Flash Launch!" I screeched in reply. Quetizko's bey and mine collided again in a shower of sparks. They broke apart and crashed two more times, Valkyrie circled the stadium twice before gaining another burst of speed. There was no decrease in my energy, so I honestly had no idea where the power was coming from.
The thing with me seeing myself in third person happened again, and I sincerely hoped Mindless Valt would have a good trick up his short sleeves. Valt swept his arm back. "Ultra Flash Launch!" he called out.
Ultra?
Apparently Valkyrie understood because she shot forwards with even more speed. All Valt and I could see was a blue blur, and then three yellow pieces shooting from the stadium to the floor.
"What?" Quon breathed, gaping at my bey. "What was that?"
It took me a minute, too, to realize what happened. In about that time, Mindless Valt decided to stop being Mindless and I came back. "YASS!!!!!"
Shu gave a wry grin."Still think he hasn't improved?"
The skateboarder gave a slow shake of his green-dyed head.
"That's what I thought."
"Shu!" I complained. "Thanks, but you're not his mom!"
Quon laughed as he left the room. Shu did his best grandma voice. "I'm just trying to protect you, young whippersnapper."
We both fell to the ground laughing.
"That was the best," I laughed. "Beautiful."
He grinned broadly and kept going in the same voice. "Now mind your manners, behave and go get me my gaming console."
I was glad he was smiling again. Shu so rarely had any emotion on his face, and seeing him angry really hurt. It was like I wasn't doing my job as his boyfriend and making him happy.
An announcement blared through the room, shattering the peaceful moment and making us jump to our feet.
"Oh--" Shu swore, then gasped and covered his mouth. "God, I'm so sorry Valt. Robin's match is right now!"
I know I got my million steps that day. Between chasing Shu around, beybattling, and just bouncing up and down in general, after this, I deserved beybread and ice cream.
And then I heard Robin's voice as we got into the stadium, and my blood turned cold. Her voice was so terrifying for some reason. It was dead angry and completely filled with power, almost like Lui's.
She and the champion himself were standing at the beyblade stadium, and Shu's glove was clenched in her hand. "Lui Shirosagi, I challenge you to the Ultimate Descendant's Trial!"
And Robin threw the glove to the ground.
---
If you're wondering why this chapter's shorter, it's because I ran of ideas and didn't feel like narrating Zac and Gabe's match this time. Probably because epicness is coming up next.
Next chapter I'll explain the Ultimate Descendant's Trial, which I've been perfecting in my head for a whole week and a half. I want to get to semis by next week. If I don't publish a lot next week, It'll be because cleaning and stuff.
Anyways, thanks to everyone's patience for getting this far in the story. Some things are weird, some don't match up, and some are just cliche. But thank you for getting this far, and I promise the next chapter or two will be the very definition of epic. And I know exactly who will win.
So... hope you enjoy! And here's a picture of the Robin who inspired my OC.
Hot? I think so!
Um.. this is awkward...
Robin out!
