Chapter 38: Robin

Robin:

"Azura, wake up."

She sleepily opened her eyes and found Shu poking her side. "What time'sit?" she complained groggily.

"Five in the morning. You slept through your alarm."

Robin shot out of bed. "What?" She ran around, frantically collecting her backpack, clothes, her beyblade and a towel. Throwing her necklace on, she yanked open the door to the apartment. "Gotta go!"

Shu stopped her. "No."

"Whaddaya mean 'no'?" Robin complained, swatting his hand away. "I've gotta train and--"

"You slept for three and a half hours," Shu pointed out. "From eleven to two, you were keeping up with your martial arts training. From an hour after you came home, you left with your homework finished and didn't come back until dinner. School starts in three hours. Go back to bed."

She gaped at him, amazed. "Howd'ja do that?"

"Cameras. And brains. And genius. It's been a week, and you've had the same pattern every day since you lost to Gabe. Also, you're slurring your words, which means you're dead tired and wished you'd done an all-nighter."

She threw her hand in the air. "I give up. Can I have breakfast, at least?"

When Shu turned around to make pancakes, she raced out the door. Problem solved.

"Okay," Robin told herself, running through her list of moves. She was alone in the beypark, and the sun hadn't yet risen. No one would be coming for a good while, so she could talk to herself as much as she wanted. "Today is the first day of the tournament. The rounds are totally random. Revive Function is allowed, Descendant or not. If your opponent is also a Descendant, you can use powers on them too, so it can be two fights going on at the same time." She grinned savagely, stretching. "Right, then. First..."

She took Ramos out of her pocket. "Ready?"

I don't get tired, but aren't you? The beyblade asked her, a hint of concern in his voice.

Well, yeah, but who cares? I'm not lucky enough to get Lui on the first round; more likely it'll be Broccoli or someone else.

Still. Shu's right. You're exhausted.

She frowned, letting her nerves respond to that. Robin was tired, but she could always skip school now that exams were over. I don't particularly care. Anyways, let's practice Revive Function, then go over our other launches. After that, could you go to human form?

I guess there's no discouraging you.

---

"WOOAAAAHHH!!!! WAKIYA GOT US A LIMO AGAIN?" Valt bellowed. They were all on the roof. Rantarikiya was now a thing, apparently, because both of them were holding hands openly. At least Shu and Valt were doing the same. Daigo was too shy to, and to be honest, so was Robin.

AHHH!!!!! Ramos started fangirling in her head.

"Well, yeah," Honcho said, swinging their intertwined hands. "My bae's awesome that way."

Wakiya's face turned adorably red. "W-what? Baka!"

She rolled her eyes. "God, you two are perfect together. You argue so much you may as well be married."

Everyone reacted to that. "Waah!!! WHY YOU BULLY US, ROBIN?"

She winked cheerfully and gestured towards the limo. "Because I'm awesome that way."

Daigo hesitantly slipped a hand into hers. "Uh... before we go.... Should I take off my bandanna?"

Everyone hesitated at that one. Robin knew how uncomfortable he was with this, and to ask about it meant he was serious. "Your choice."

Daigo threw the jacket and bandanna o the ground and stomped on them. "Okay, I'm done. Let's go!"

On the way there, Robin noticed her boyfriend seemed brighter and more cheerful. Maybe his identity was weighing him down. Good thing he got rid of the problem now, instead of later.

---

"ARE YOU READY FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE TOURNAMENT??!!" Hanami bellowed with unusual excitement. Even for him. Robin figured this must be big, since Lui was openly participating. The crowd-- there seemed to be more of them than normal-- cheered and screamed. Some of them had Supreme Four posters, so it was safe to assume all of them would be participating. Xander caught her eyes from higher in the stands and waved. Yugo scowled.

"THE FIRST ROUND BRACKETS ARE UP!!!" he yelled. The screen with him on it was replaced by portraits and lines.

The people on brackets were as followed: Akira--new popstar with serious skills-- versus Zac. Shu versus that creepy kid: Jynn, Robin versus Naoki-- she grinned at that-- Valt versus Honcho (really, just why did that keep happening?) Lui versus Ken (God, he stood a farts chance in the wind.) A/N If anyone knows where I got that, please comment. Gabe versus Yugo, Ukyo versus Wakiya, and Xander versus Shinki.

She smiled slowly, baring her teeth. "Well, then. Sounds fun."

"Don't get cocky," Daigo warned from next to her. "That's how you lose. Besides, you look dead as it is."

"Why aren't you participating?" she asked, twirling a lock of her growing hair.

"Didn't make it," he replied. He seemed a lot more uncomfortable without his jacket to hide behind. "Um... should I go head towards the stands?"

She laughed. "We're already in the stands. Jeez, you really are nervous. Relax, no one's going to notice much. Your ears are almost as dark as your hair and--"

"Daigo, you've got a tail?" Ukyo said from beside them. He yowled in surprise, whipping around and finding a certain blue-haired ninja. The said ninja did nothing more than blink slowly. "Cool. You should come to the dojo later, you could practice with me."

Daigo nodded. "Maybe. Also... STOP DOING THAT!"

"Doing this?"

"GO AWAY!!!!"

The first round was Akira versus Zac. Since both of them had powers, the ref asked who would use them. Surprisingly, neither person did.

Their battle alone could have taken up a whole book, but Zac's jealous looks at Akira, and the latter's admiring glances towards him made the whole battle both intense and awkward. By the end, at least half the fans were Zakira shippers. Including Valt, which was strange. She didn't think he even knew what a ship was.

The next round was Shu. Only Jynn had powers, so he was only allowed to use Revive Function. This time, something strange happened, and Robin thought Nika noticed, too. When Shu and Jynn yelled, "Let it...." something flashed in the corner of her vision. Both girls whipped around, eyes searching for it. Robin almost missed how Shu hissed and flinched, upsetting his launch.

"That bastard cheated," Nika cursed.

Toko gasped and put a hand over his twin's mouth. "Hey! No cursing in front of Big Brother! He's too--"

"I need you two to do something," Daigo cut them off quickly. They looked at him with curious eyes. "You two need to look for whatever laser did that. If you can't find it by the end of Robin's match, come back to here. Go it?"

Toko frowned slightly. "How do you know if it's a laser?"

"Trust me, I know. I just had a serious instinct to run after it, so it was either a flashlight or that. And a flashlight is too unwieldy for that and--"

NIka giggled, pulling a giant ball of string from her pocket. "Oh Daaiggoo!" she sang, waving it around.

A low growl sounded from his throat as he tried to bat it out of her hands. "Gimme that!"

"No."

There was a cheer from the crowd around them, and they both looked up. Valt gasped. "Shu lost a point?"

He did, and Robin was pretty sure it was about a certain laser. The twins got up and left, presumably to find the laser.

Shu took a deep, slow breath.

Jynn smiled. "My spirits have increased. I have 323 spirits now. Some of them like to haunt people, you should be careful."

He ignored him, but Robin bristled at the threat. Who was he to say that when she could make his spirits kill him?

Careful. Don't get cocky. If Jynn wins, Jormunter is a fierce opponent.

Understood.

"Let it.... Rip!"

Shu's eyes were shut tightly shen he launched, and the laser flashed again. Robin pinpointed the location and got out of her seat. Beys crashed in the background as she joined the twins. "Found it?"

"Almost," Nika replied.

"It's in this area," Toko agreed, sending his gaze around the back of the room.

Robin frowned, checking the wall. "What about this ladybug?"

Nika tilted her head. "It looks like a decoration."

Toko smiled. "Whoever did this would do it after sound." He pulled out his own launcher. "Let it-" the rest of his sentence was lost in a yelp as he drop the bey and clawed at his eyes. "Gah! I'm blind!"

"Shut up, will you?" One guy complained, watching the match. "I can't hear--"

They could clearly hear the shrill ring of plastic as Shu burst Jormunder.

"Never mind. Just keep it down, will you?"

Robin exhaled with relief. For a minute it had been a bit close. Good thing Shu had won, otherwise Valt would be pissed.

Toko shook his head, wincing slightly. "Ugh. That hurt a lot."

Nika giggled. "How bad could that have bee-- ouch!" The laser shot into her eyes. "Yow! I get it already!"

Robin frowned. "But why would someone try to blind him? I don't think it was Jynn."

"Well, it's your turn and you can test Naoki," the twins said in unison.

Her round with Naoki wasn't as expected.

First, she was a bit freaked out by his beyblade, which was water themed. Kinda weirded her out because hers was fire, but that didn't really matter.

"Naoki: Descendant power, Water. Robin: Descendant power, Emotions," the ref told the audience. "You're both allowed to use them."

Robin set up her position, eager to test her Revive Function."Three!"

Naoki's glasses flashed, and Robin detected a red flash by the bottom of the glasses. He's recording? "Two!"

"One!"

"Let it.... Rip!"

Phoenix crashed into the stadium, tip screeching across the floor at different pitches. It actually sounded like it was singing, so her attack was working. Nepstrius hit the floor softly and spun to the center. The beyblade was a balance type, so she couldn't be sure what would happen.

Phoenix, head to the inner ring.

Got it!

Phoenix streaked towards center, circling with the same speed that she had showed Valt. Get ready. See how he's got six clircles on the energy layer?

Yeah?

Attack just behind one of those circles.

Okay. I'll need ten percent more power..

Got it!

Phoenix crashed into Nepstrius. Power flowed through Ramos, streaking out of Robin. She watched, hoping that it was enough. The edge of Phoenix's energy layer pushed against Naoki's and knocked him to half power before he could think. About a second later, a chiming sound told her Naoki's bey had burst.

"Yes!"

Surprisingly, Naoki was smiling. "Thank you for the data, Azura Kurenai."

Oh, that's not good. I think he's supplying data for people, maybe? Or just doing an experiment? Whatever. It won't affect me.

Next round: Valt versus HOncho. No surprise who won that one. Valt was starting to be a freaking beast and destroyed the tall blonde in seconds.

Long story short, Lui won his round. So did Gabe, Wakiya, and Xander.

Robin made her way back to the other. "Well, that was fun, yeah?"

"AWESOME!" Valt replied enthusiastically. "IT WAS SO-- " his phone rang.

"You've got a phone?" Honcho asked.

"WHAT!???!!" he shrieked, so loud Daigo face planted. He turned off the phone, face ashen and smile gone.

"What?" Shu asked.

"My mom said no more beybread."

--

Okay, so I was on a bit of a time crunch. I was also listening and watching Prestonplayz at the same tme, so the quality might not be as good as usual. I don't usually have time to edit, because I work on about four stories at a time. My mind does not like focusing on one thing so..... you get it.

On a separate note, we're in the final arc of the story. I don't write these in advance anymore, so the story might be a bit awkward. Warning: much as I hate it, there's going to be a lot of cliches. Also, I didn't get a chance to see the real matchups, so I just remembered the most important matches and did those.

I hope you really like the story! Also, would you mind telling me how you came by this story?

Robin out!
