Chapter 3: Robin

Robin slowly walked up the stairs to the roof, with Daigo at her side. Her beyblade hummed at her side.

What is it, Ramos? Unlike most beyblades, her beyblade preferred a human name instead of the bey one.

Daigo more or less decided to use you to piss off your brother. Should I kill him?

Stop being so protective. I can take care of myself. Besides, it might be better to watch him instead of confront him. I don't know anything about these people, and it could work out.

"Do these stair ever end?" Robin called to Daigo, who was a few steps behind her. He seemed fairly friendly, if not a little strange. At least he wasn't bad looking.

"Just one more floor," he said. He was sweating a little, but geez. How tall was the freaking building? The Shakadera dojo was on a mountain, but at least the mountain was fun. This was insanely boring.

After a long minute, they finally reaches the top, onto a gated roof. How the got this place was a mystery. "This is where we practice." Daigo indicated the surrounding roof area. One big stadium, a shaded bench, and five people around the stadium.

"That's Ken, Shu, Valt, Honcho, and Wakiya," he recited, pointing to each. He then sighed. "Great, they're arguing again. Come on, I'll introduce you to the mot dysfunctional beyclub in Japan."

Daigo pushed his way between Honcho and Wakiya, who were poking each other. Robin wondered why the two hadn't gotten into a fistfight yet. The floor wasn't black, so it couldn't hide blood, but she figured it would be fine. Even if she had been the most violent at the dojo.

"Enough, you two. Just focus on the match-"

"Yeah!" Valt yelled, jumping up in the air. "I won!"

Ken raised his hands in surrender. Robin noticed a blue-cat shaped puppet and a brown dog one on each hand.

Ventriloquist, Ramos informed her.

"Aww, you won," the brown dog on the left side said.

"But we'll beat you next time!" the weird blue animal on his right hand declared, folding his 'arms', which were really thumbs, across its chest.

Poor Daigo. If he had to deal with this all day, maybe he had even invited her to make a friend. Not a great way to do it, but she was getting more and more curios about the group.

"There's a new member joining the beyclub!" Daigo yelled at the top of his voice. Not very loud... It worked, though. Everyone turned towards Daigo, who was standing in front of Robin. "This is Robin." He stepped aside, and gave her a look that clearly meant to make a good first impression.

"So, is there a signup sheet I need?" Robin asked. She was completely serious, but Valt laughed anyways.

Valt grinned. "Nah, you're good. Let's battle!"

"Hold on, Valt," Shu said coldly. Robin growled quietly at him, baring her teeth. He smirked. "We don't really know if you really can do anything at all."

Daigo winced and she took an unsteady step back. Shu could pull the whole world out from under her if she wanted to. He didn't need a descendant power for that.

Robin nodded. "Got it. Who wants to battle me?"

"Wait a second," the blonde named Wakiya that she had tossed into a wall stared at her. "You're that girl! The one who hit me!"

"To be more accurate, you said something really rude to me, and then I picked you up and tossed you into the wall."

Wakiya was fuming. "That's it! Battle me! Right now!"

"Alright, my princess," she replied, doing a ridiculous bow. As she predicted, his face got even redder. One more little tease, and he'd go right over the edge

Honcho grinned at the princess part. "We're gonna be good friends."

Robin agreed.

"You will be facing Wild Wyvron." Wakiya held up a purple beyblade with red parts scything out of it on opposite sides. These were wings. In the middle, there was clear plastic covering anothwr purple layer. in the very center was a purple 'W'. He glared at her. "You do have a beyblade, don't you?"

"Meet Rise Phoenix," she told him, taking her beyblade out of her hoodie pocket. It's outer circle was red, with silver accents along the top and bottom. In the gold middle, a flame-red Phoenix boldly stared back at Wyvron, it's silver eye glittering. The wings that spread to either side of the inner circle shone. "Scared yet?"

"Only in your messed up head."

Before Robin could throw to blonde off the roof, Daigo dragged the girl to the side of the stadium. That was kinda dangerous, because Robin really wanted to throw both of them, but restrained

Daigo positioned himself as ref. "Three!"

The others continued the countdown. "Two! One!"

Robin's launcher shook slightly. "Let it.. RIP!"

Phoenix touched down with a shaky launch, and went to the middle, wobbling. She kept her expression neutral, but inside, she was bouncing up and down with excitement. She had only been blading for a year, so flawlessly performing her newest launch was something she enjoyed a lot. Perfect.

Clearly, the others did not think the same. "What happened?" Valt yelled. He looked like he was .about to cry. A tiny smile appeared on Shu's face, obviously thinking there was no way a shaky launch could beat Wakiya.

It wasn't her fault he woke up in a hospital!

Wakiya thought the same way as Shu. "This Is too easy!" he laughed. "Wyvron, attack!"

As it gained speed, spinning quickly around the white outer ring of the stadium, Phoneox wobbled more. The edges scraped the ground. Suddenly, Wyvron shot for her bey, glowing brightly. The moment it made contact with her energy layer, it caught underneath Wyvron's.

"Now!" Rise Phoenix wobbled again. The other side of the energy layer hit the floor of the stadium, essentially turning her bey into a lever. Wyvron went flying, clipping the edge of the stadium wall as it went. As soon as it hit that, it burst. The three pieces flew at Wakiya, and he dropped to the floor so they wouldn't hit him.

Daigo gaped at Robin, along with everyone else. She grinned and held her hand to the stadium floor. Phoenix slowed and jumped into her palm. "Next person?"

Wakiya was stunned. "H-how... " He jumped up. "How could a girl blader beat me?"

She struck a ridiculous pose. "Awesomeness, Goldilocks."

Honcho fell over laughing. "Yeah, we're definitely gonna be besties."

Valt looked hurt. "I thought I was your bestie!"

Robin turned to look at Daigo, who had gotten over his surprise. "You know how I did that, don't you." She had watched his eyes flick from one movement to another with complete focus. He understood how the beys moved and why, and that was more than what Robin could say.

He nodded, and spoke quietly when Shu turned to look at him. Shu probably already knew the answer. "You did a shaky launch on purpose, had Phoenix take the center, and timed it so when Wakiya attacked, one side on the bey was touching the ground. Then, all you had to do was reverse it, and Wyvron burst."

She smiled. "Almost no one figures it out. You're actually really smart."

Daigo turned red from either anger or embarassment, and was about to reply, when Valt jumped up and yelled, "I want a turn!!"

She didn't beat Shu, that much was guaranteed. But she beat Ken, and Valt, and Honcho, and Wakiya. But she didn't beat Daigo. Robin couldn't figure out why. Phoenix had countered at full power, but Doomsyther repelled it, and crashed into Phoenix for a burst finish. Why?

Did we both try our hardest?

Yes.

Did you want to beat DoomScyther? Or care? Or not try hard enough?

That gave her pause. Like everyone else, she wanted to be the very best. But Daigo, with his quiet strength and dark eyes... Maybe it felt a little cruel to do that to him, or maybe it was the way everyone else ignored him, and how his face turned cold when he lost.

Oh no.

What?

I'm being an actual kind person! With actual morals!

Oooohhhh.... Daigo x Robin forever!

Don't you dare. He's just another Descendant, that's all! That's all!

Hmm...right...

She saw Daigo going the other way of the houses. "Where's he going?" Robin muttered to herself. "Not going home, they bey park is east of him-the hospitals? Why?"

Don't. It's obviously private. If he wants to tell you why, he would. Leave it be.

"Fine." As she started walking away, she glanced over her shoulder at the other Descendant and sighed. "I hope you're alright, Kurogami. Because you've got my interest now."
