Chapter 27: Robin and Lui

Robin:

The week off passed quickly. Daigo and her went to the movies, stalked Rantaro and Wakiya for pictures, and generally was happy.

Then when they got to the roof on Monday at school, Robin was running around like a headless chicken.

"WHEEEERRRRREEEESSSS KEN!"

Daigo turned red. "Ah... he, Uh, May or may not have had to transfer schools and told me not to say anything and-"

He was stopped with the swearing of four people. Surprisingly Shu's was the worst, describing the exact way he wanted a certain secret-keeper to be tortured in hell.

It wasn't pretty, especially when Valt walked in.

Her ears started hurting from the screaming, and she whispered something to Valt. He nodded, and yelled over everyone, "BE QUIIIEEETTT!"

A window shattered, but it did the job. Everyone shut up.

If I didn't know better, I'd say he was a Descendant, Daigo thought

So true. My imaginary ears are actually bleeding.

Robin saw Daigo press his hands to his cat ears, and winced in apology. As painful as it was for her, cat ears could pick up most noises humans couldn't hear. That was likely living torture for him, part of Shu's angry curse.

"Ken's gone," Valt said. "That was his choice, so get it together! The team tournament starts tomorrow! We need to prepare, and it starts with you people calming down and acting your age!"

Great pep talk, Robin thought dryly, but you should really take your own advice.

THE VALT PROTECTION SQUAD IS HERE! Ramos yelled. What did you say about the smol bean?

Uh...

"Let's practice!" Valt declared, grabbing Shu by the arm and dragging him to the stadium. While he battled the albino and lost, Robin made her way to Daigo, who was leaning against the wall.

"Sorry."

He shrugged. "I get why you were so angry. We're supposed to be able to tell each other everything. I definitely should have told you something as big as this. If I had done that," he pressed his hand to under his bandanna and pulled out a"this wouldn't have happened." With slightly more humor, he added, "you might want to rethink Shu as a Descendant."

She shrugged and pressed her lips to his quickly. "Maybe. But I shouldn't have yelled at you."

Before he could speak, a phone flashed. "PERFECT!" Rantaro yelled, showing the photo to Wakiya. He nodded and added it to his collection.

Before war could break out, Shu won the last battle and Valt grabbed Wakiya's ponytail and dragged him to the beystadium.

"LEAVE MY FABULOUS HAIR ALONE!" the blonde yowled, trying to break the sonic's death grip. He only succeeded in getting his hair pulled harder.

Daigo took a picture.

Sadly, it was Shu's turn to lead in training drills, and Robin was pretty sure h e was worse than Xander. At least Xander didn't yell at them while they were trying to stay conscious.

"Ten more laps around the park," the evil albino said, met by a chorus of groans. Wakiya was the first to get up, eyes blazing with determination.

Strange, Robin thought. I know he wants to beat Shu, but I didn't think he'd be willing to go this long and hard.

Everyone got up again. After ten laps, though, Valt was the only one with energy left. "Come on! Let's battle already!"

Wakiya glared at him, breathing heavily. "Valt you idiot, were supposed to be physically stronger. Our skill can wait!"

She nodded. "Exactly."

The smol bean poured. "Aww...."

Robin sat down on the bench, reaching for her water bottle.

"I wouldn't," Daigo warned her.

She carefully pushed the bottle away from her. "Huh? Did Wakiya spike it?"

"Nah," he replied. "According to several things I have read, and, you know, experience, one of the ways a human body shows your strength your limits is v-"

"Just stop. Please. I don't need to hear the rest."

"Also," he said, "Apparently, your not supposed to sit down after running. If you stand up, you can breathe easier. Also some other reason I can't remember."

"Great," she muttered to herself, standing up. "Anything I can do?"

"Yeah," the albino devil said, materializing in front of her. "Push ups. Now."

I walked into that one.

It took until about five for Shu to give them a break. While Honcho got up and ran to the nearest candy store, Valt devoured a bunch of beybread and fell asleep. Robin chose to take out her IPod and listen to music.

"You got new headphones," Daigo noted. They were black and noise canceling, for obvious reasons of being around Valt.

"They cost about eighty dollars," she said, closing her eyes. "God, I'm tired."

Daigo looked like he was thinking about something. That alone was an impressive feat, considering her brain felt like it was working through mud right them. "You could make Shu fall asleep."

"Woah, woah, woah," Robin took off her headphones and gave him an incredulous look. "You say what?"

"Well, you can control and sometimes manipulate emotions," he explained, evidently trying not to gasp for breath while talking. "You... could make him want to stop training, or whatever."

She rolled her eyes. "True, but i'm not going to."

He blinked. "Why? I would."

"Well, its an abuse of power. I'm cursed with a good conscience." She grinned. "Also, all of us are kinda... weak. I mean," she added hastily, seeing his look, "I still can't really do a two mile run without stopping, and you can't life fifty pounds."

He made a face. "You have a very different concept of weak than I do. We're eleven years old. Eleven!"

"And yet Xander is a ripped giant."

"True," He said, standing up. "Your right. I'll get even stronger."

Oh, Daigo, Robin though, admiring how he was trying so hard. "We'll both get stronger."

"Yes! Perfect film!" Wakiya cheered from behind them.

Daigo cursed. "I've got an idea. I'm going to yank their arms out of their sockets."

"You've got a dark streak."

He rolled his eyes. "I'm sorry, have you met me? And it's good practice for launching!"

"Absolutely not." A gleam came into her eyes as Robin thought of perfect revenge. "I've got a better idea. And I bet Valt will let us."

Five minutes later, they were all hunting Rantarakiya down with water balloons.

Lui:

The next day, Lui got up at the crack of dawn.

Deciding to skip school, he went straight to the Beyblading tournament building, which had a huge amount of equipment.

While he trained for about five hours straight, his phone buzzed. Lui growled and yanked it out of his pocket. "What is it?" He snapped into the phone without looking at the caller ID.

"Lui." Of course it was Gabe. The second smartest and the definite tallest on Rideout, their team. "You can't just skip school, you know."

"I have to train, to get stronger," he growled, setting the phone to speaker and returning to to his workout. "Kurenai's going to be training too, and I heard both are going to be entering this time."

Gave sighed through the device. "I know about your history with Shu, but you have nothing to prove. You should be at school right now."

"You're not my mom."

"I may as well be, because you listen to me just about as much."

Lui dearly wished his power would allow him to go through his phone and kick his friend in the shins. Too bad his was fire. Well, not the only one.

"Gabe, don't call me about this. I need to focus." Lui draped two fifty pound sandbags across his shoulders. "End the call already."

"No. Go to school or I'll make you."

Lui snorted, half amused as he started sprinting from one side of the room to the other. "Oh, sure. You're in class. You can't just leave." Irritated he wasn't tired yet, he increased his pace more, tapping one wall then racing back towards the other one at full speed.

"Is that a challenge?" His friend asked in a teasing tone. Lui knew he would probably drag his unconscious body back to that hellhole if he said yes. But he was in the mood for a challenge.

Yes!

No, Luinor snapped. Spryzen's going to get better while we're sitting still. We have to win! Not after... last time... Lost Luinor's voice wavered. Not after what Spryzen did to me...

C'mon, let's say yes and get this lecture over with. My big brother has to look after me, after all.

The twelve year old turned to the phone. "That's a challenge."

Where he continued his training, he heard Gabe ask the teacher if he could go to the bathroom.

Oh, shoot! What was Gabe's power again?

With a sound like drums, the muscular redhead appeared in from of him. "Lui."

Lui continued running, fully intent on knocking him over. Instead, Gabe Brunei held out two hands and stopped him in his tracks. Lui pushed forwards harder, and he let go and dodged to the side, making the smaller boy stumble.

"I can't go back," he told him, taking the sandbags off of his shoulders and starting one hundred sit ups.

"Why?"

He sped up, relishing the painful burn in him chest. "They all look at me weird. You've seen it; it's unnerving."

He facepalmed. "Never mind, Lui. Tomorrow, I'll be at your house by dawn and I'll drag you to school if I have to."

With another drumroll, the redhead disappeared. Geez, Lui thought in an irritated way, now breathing heavily. Do you have to be a redhead to have big muscles?

(Answer: yes. Kirishima, Xander, Gabe, etc. if you are a redhead anime male, you have muscles. I think.)

At the end of five hours, he stepped outside of the training area into the tournament seating. It's so quiet.

That blissful peace was shattered by someone else's voice. "WOAH! ITS SO BIG!"

A blue haired boy about his height ran to the center. His name was Valt Ali , and he had so much untapped potential it was funny. Valt was closely followed by those two blonde losers. Wakiya and Honcho, was it? If he remembered correctly, they were a couple.

The cheater, Daigo Kurogami walked in after them, evidently unimpressed. Holding his hand was a white haired girl who looked like a boy. Her red eyes were reminiscent of another person. She was Robin Kurenai, but he knew her real name as Azura. Once upon a time, he was her best friend.

Wait. If Azura's here, then that means—

"Valt! Wait!"

The last boy ran in, panting lightly and searching for the blue-haired kid. He felt a surge of jealousy.

Then the boy looked up.

For the first time in a year, Shu Kurenai was staring straight back at him.
