Chapter 18: Ryota and Daigo

OMG!!! THANK YOU ANIME_GIRL206 FOR THE NEW COVER!!! ITS SO AWESOME!!!!

Also, to the people who are actually starting to read this studd, thank you. I didn't expect more than three or four people to be reading this, but thank you so much. It really means a lot.

In addition, go ahead and comment on stuff. Usually the stuff is really funny, and the highlight of my day. So thank you for that.

Okay, on with the story!!!

Beware.

Beware, Daigo Kurogami.

Those were the words that Doomscyther had left for him when he got home. It disturbed Daigo that Doomscyther was able to manifest a more physical shape.

The brother's cold heart fed the shadow, giving it strength.

But day after day, as the boy got weaker, the shadow got stronger. The girl and the brother began to notice something was wrong.

"By that point, the shadow had more power over the boy than the boy had over himself.

He himself had said this to Ryota, trying to explain. Daigo just hoped it didn't come to the last part of the story. He hadn't even gotten his doctor's degree yet.

Doomscyther snickered, appearing before him in the form of a black cat. "I won't be needing you much longer, kitten," the cat meowed. "I'll dispose of you and the weaker side of me. The foolish Deathscizor, who thought he could control me on his own. You're fools, the both of you."

Daigo said nothing, quietly sitting there.

"So what do you think about the next match?" Doomscyther teased. "I screened your ice-girl's memory, and apparently Yugo was a great admirer of hers before she turned him down."

The boy shot to his feet. "Liar!"

The cat shrugged and began to clean itself with its tongue. "Believe what you want, kitty, but it's true. He'll try to humiliate you to get to Robin next."

Daigo glared before letting his gaze drop to the ground. "What do you want me to do, then?"

The cat pawed his tablet, moving on to the "Doomscyther" site. Below the legal moves, there were several illegal ones with descriptions of why and the punishment for using the specific ones.

"I can't use these!" the boy protested. "I'd get disqualified for using any!"

The cat shrugged, licking it's paw. "Yugo's still stronger than you. And I want to win, so you'll do as I say."

Daigo stood up. "No, Doomscyther. I will not do this. This is completely wrong." He took a swipe at the cat, but it jumped back.

"Ooohh," it hissed. "So you wanna play like that? You're just still a kid. You have no idea what you're getting into when you tell me no, so just do what you're told."

"I'm not cheating, jerk."

The cat showed its teeth and transformed into a larger, hulking shadow. "Be reasonable, kitten. Besides, it takes a lot of energy to control you, so stay still."

Daigo tried to punch it, but his fist went right through. The shadow roared with laughter. "This is only the beginning. The beys in the beyclub- other than Valtryek and Ragnarok, those traitors- are going to rise up against you idiots later. First me, then Spryzen, but Wyvron chickened out. Rich idiots. Then Kerbeus. But Phoenix might take some convincing."

"Kerbeus?" The terrified boy snorted. "Yeah, like that's going to happen."

"Okay, that's it, Daigo. Say goodbye to Deathscizor for good!" The shadow disappeared, and Daigo fell back onto his bed.

Slowly, he stood up, and his eyes turned dark grey. "I am Doomscyther," he whispered to himself. "I am Doomscyther." He walked around, as if testing out his body for the first time, unaware of his surroundings.

One of those surroundings happened to be Ryota.

Ryota:

He stared with wide eyes at the scene, Daigo speaking like a zombie, at the bey glowing dark purple on the pillow.

The pieces started falling into place.

The story.

The ditching school.

The exhausted was he dragged himself through the house yesterday.

Doomscyther glowing.

And Robin asking him if his brother had seemed off.

Doomscyther was possessing Daigo? He called up Fenrir.

Yeah?

Could you please check if possession is a real thing?

A pause, Fenrir disappearing and reappearing a moment later. Sure is, unfortunately. Wait, why? Let me see, alright? Ryota let his bey look through his eyes instead of guessing. Yep, yep, that just happened. There's not really much you can do. Daigo could fight it, but how long have you suspected? Monday? Three days, more or less, okay. Daigo has to fight it himself.

That's cliche. Almost as cliche as if Robin knocked on the door right now and rescued Daigo.

Did all I could, little buddy. Stay strong while I'm gone. I'm going to investigate this further.

Ryota felt his presence leave. He decided it was time to make himself known. "Daigo!" He bounced into the other boy's room with a smile on his face. "It's tournament day tomorrow!!! You're going against Yugo, and you have a pass for school!!"

Daigo smiled, but Ryota noticed the dull grey eyes. "I can't wait."

Ryota pouted. "Are you nervous, big brother? Don't be! You're the best!"

"Thanks, Ryota." He started arranging his pillows in a half circle, to prevent himself from falling off the bed again. The violet eyed boy remembered a few embarrassing incidents where Daigo sleep walked off the bed and fell on his face. He smirked slightly. If things between Daigo and Robin went as he hoped, Robin might fix that annoying crash that usually happened at midnight.

"G' night!"

"'Night."

Daigo:

Doomscyther woke him up at the crack of dawn. "Let's get moving, boy. We're going to beat everyone."

"And this has to do with possession, how?"

"Duh! Because I like winning! Honestly! It's like I'm talking to a person with no brain!"

Daigo grumbled and stood up. "Right now, you're using my brain. Go away and I'll stop being stupid."

His bey mimicked him in a high-pitched voice: "Go away and I'll stop being stupid." Doomscyther's voice turned normal. "Now move it, 'cause you've got two hours of running waiting for you."

Needless to say, Doomscyther made him run until he collapsed, then hit him until he got to the beystadium. "Now! One hundred launches!"

"Daigo?" someone asked, in a voice that sounded very much like Robin's. "What are you doing here?"

Dark Doomscyther turned him around. It was not, in fact, Robin. It was Shu, holding his right arm stiff. His left held a bey and launcher. "Training."

"Haven't seen you here at six before," Shu pointed out. "Couldn't sleep?"

Daigo hesitated, fighting Doomscyther's influence before giving in. "Something like that."

He nodded. "Let me see you launch." He launched, and the albino nodded. "Good, but you're stepping too far forwards, and to gain speed, straighten out your wrist." Daigo tried again. The traitor bey glided with extreme speed across the center, then circled twice and attacked again. "Better." Shu stepped forward with the bey in hand.

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

"Let it rip!" Doomscyther noted through the noise of being launched, a hiss of pain from the albino. He heard the bones rub slightly against Shu's nerves, causing him a lot more pain. Doomscyther was rather surprised that the albino wasn't cursing or screaming.

While he was seeing these things, he was knocked out of the stadium.

"The launch was good, but you're not focusing as much as you were earlier." Shu held his launcher out. "Again"

At the tournament, Daigo, or rather, the thing pretending to be Daigo, met RObin at the entrence. "Who're are you fighting?"

She glanced at him, slightly comfused looking. "Are you alright? You look really tired. And also, your eyes turned grey."

He frowned. "Yeah, I'm okay, just a bit nervous."

His real self stuck inside his head, Daigo cursed at Doomscyther. I don't sound like that!

The girl shrugged. "Okay." She glanced around.

"Looking for someone?"

Robin turned back toward him."Yeah. Ukyo, Xander, and Yugo. Xander already got the team tornament invite, so he's not going to battle this time."

"I'm here," Yugo declared, stepping out of the crowd. "And I'm going to beat the both of you!"

"I'm here, too," someone agreed from behind Daigo. Doomscyther couldn't stop himself from yelling and jumping up in the air. "Wow," the blue haired ninja said, gliding in front of him. "That must have been two feet."Descendant. Power: Levitation, Daigo recognized. Despite ease of hiding in shadows, soul mostly light.

Robin smacked him on the shoulder. "Again, stop sneaking up on me."

"No."

Yugo grabbed Daigo from behind and spun him around to face him. "I'm going to win," he snarled. "And I will. You and your girlfriend are going to lose, one after the other. Understand?"

With Doomscyther's fear, Daigo took over temporarily and nodded. "Yes, Mohoawk."

"It's Yugo!" The samurai trainee made a grab for him, but Ukyo was already there, blocking it.

"Yugo," he murmured quietly. "Enough."

"He insulted me."

The tall ninja sighed."Use your head. If you hurt him, there are witnesses and you will most definitely get disqualified from the tournament, not to mention your reputation tarnished." He released the boy, and Yugo stood still.

"Let's go," Ukyo suggested. "Your match starts in a few minutes."

With a last cold look in their direction, Yugo marched off. The other boy gave them an apologetic look, then followed.

"Well, that went well," Robin sighed. Daigo snickered. "You should get ready. It's you versus Yugo, uh, Valt versus Honcho, Ken versus Orochi, Shu versus Ukyo,  Wakiya versus me." She jumped up in the air and turned a three-sixty. "Good luck, Daigo. And, whatever's affecting you, do your best."

Daigo grinned darkly, a look that he would never have let Robin see if not for Doomscyther. "I'm going to beat that shaved monkey if I have to sell my soul."

Really? Haha, someone already STOLE MINE YOU--

Shut it, prisoner.

"Are you ready, everyone!" Hanami called. The fans yelled and cheered, hurting Daigo's ears. "Then let's start! In the red corner, it's Daigo Kurogami!" Robin cheered with the rest, giving him a bright, happy smile. In his little chain-bound section of his mind, the real Daigo sighed happily and blushed.

"And in the blue corner, it's Yugo Nansui!" The devil, okay, well not the devil, but the evil taco stepped out, wearing a slightly detached expression. Daigo knew that he always meditated before his match.

"Launchers at ready!" The crowd cheered as they got into their launching stances.

"Three!"Daigo tilted his launcher down, unaware that Yugo was reading him.

"Two!" He tensed, and Yugo did too.

"One!" Daigo lunged forward, swinging his launcher like scythe.

"Let it rip!" Power surged through him and he released the ripcord with all his strength.

Doomscyther crossed the center, narrowly missing Yeggdrion. The other bey took the center, taunting the dark bey.

Half-half for Yugo, Daigo realized. Very rare. His ability, I have no idea.

Doomscyther circled around for another go and missed again. "Oh, yeah," Yugo laughed. "Forgot to mention, my skill as a Descendant is reading people. I can tell right now, you're pretty frustrated. And I don't need my skills to know this will end as a ring out finish."

Both raised their voices and yelled at the same time; "Destroy it, now!"

To Daigo's surprise, not,"Ring out finish for Yeggrion! Yugo Nansui gets one point!"

One more and I lose. Maybe he'll release me after this, if he loses. Daigo began to struggle more.

Enough! Doomscyther snarled to him, pinning him down. You respond to me, and I say to HOLD STILL. NOW.

Weakened, he slumped back down and let his bey rebind him with stronger chains. "Let me go!"

The bey did not respond, brow furrowed in concentration. "Shut up and stop moving! I cant focus!"

"Round two!"

Doomscyther recalled on of the illegal moves. He checked the sun. Perfect.

"I'm going to break you, Daigo Kurogami," Yugo growled. He was and expert on growling, Daigo thought dryly.

"Three!" Daigo positioned himself as he had before.

"Two!" He tensed.

"One!"He waited a second.

"Let it... ri-" Daigo twisted his launcher as he lunged flashing a bright beam of light straight into Yugo's face.

"-p!"

Doomscyther ran straight to the center, leaving a trail of sparks. Yeggdrion wobbled to the center.

"Uh-oh!" Hanami yelled. "Looks like Yugo did a mislaunch!"

"Finish it!" Daigo was forced to yell, while inwardly cursing himself and his bey.

Yugo's eyes widened, but he stood strong, proud to the moment Doomscyther crashed into his own bey, and burst it. The samurai trainee sighed and collected the pieces, head down.

"I won't say, 'that's not possible,' because that's cliche," he told Daigo. Then, he bowed, arms at his sides, bending at the waist, just like Robin did. Then he turned and left the stage.

As the crowds cheered, with Robin alongside them, laughing and smiling at him, he only had one thought on his mind.

I was too weak. Yet again, I was too weak.

Poor Daigo...

Robin out!
