Chapter 16: Robin
Tuesday. The tournament day! She grinned, ignoring her Japanese teacher droning on. Lets see, the first round would be easy. Her friends and her would win for sure. The next rounds would be harder. The Shakedera dojo was competing, so that alone would be a challenger. Yugo, the dedicated warrior, had Yeggdrion. He was the second strongest of all of the people at the dojo. Ukyo, the blue-haired ninja, he had Unicrest. Xander, the strongest, and the only one who could actually find Ukyo, wasn't competing. Rumor had it that the Supreme Four member had gotten an invitation already. So had Shu, who was another top blader. Zac the Sunshine, the pop star's life was public knowledge, and he had one. And the Baby Shark, oh, Robin had some things to say to him. Definitely, a few things to say. And a few things to blackma-
"Kuranai!"
She flinched. "Y-yes?"
"What did I just say?" The bored teacher was now full- on glaring at her for being even more bored than him.
Daigo gave her an annoyed look.
"Uh... "
The teacher smirked. "For your punishment, you will give me your bey for the rest of the school day."
Robin paled. Ramos vibrated angrily. Don't do it! Don't, don't don't don't DON'T!!!
I won't.
He held out his hand, but she clung tightly to her bey. "Kurenai..." he said warningly.
She shook her head. "I can't."
He scowled. "Well, then, you will write a three page essay in font Times New Roman about why you shouldn't ignore your teacher. In TEPAC form, to be due tomorrow."
Robin nodded, accepting the pain. TEPAC was an explaining thing, topic sentence, evidence, paraphrase, analysis, and conclusion. It took a painful amount of time to write, and an essay took at least five. Not to mention three pages...
The bell rang, and she was the first one out.
After school, Robin and Daigo went straight to the beyclub. While they were walking, she noticed the circles under his eyes, and the way he stumbled slightly every time he put his foot down. "You good?"
Daigo made an effort to stand up straight and focus. "I'm fine," he said. "Come on, I'll race you."
She was mildly surprised when she won by about two minutes, but Daigo had seemed tired, so that could be it.
"HEY!!!" Valt yelled. "WE HAVE THE TOURnAMENT TODAY!!! ISN'T THAT AWESOME!!! AND ALSO, WERE GOING IN WAKIYA'S LIMO!! IT'S SO CO--"
"STOP YELLING!" Honcho roared over him, barely audible. Valt shut up, and Robin saw Shu remove earplugs. She had earbuds in at full volume, but Valt's and definitely Honcho's voice carried over it.
Valt started singing off key, "We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship! " She put the earplugs back in and Shu put a hand over the Sonic's mouth.
"Stop," the albino told him firmly. "Please. Let's go."
Thank you, Shu! Ramos approved. You have saved my life and my ears.
They all won the first round, no sweat. The second round would be Valt versus Honcho, Wakiya versus Ukyo, Robin versus Hoji, Ken versus a guy named Orochi, and Daigo versus--
Really? How is that fair?
"Hello, Robin. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your friend in battle tomorrow."
Daigo versus Yugo.
He had always been cold to her, when she had first joined on. At first it was because he didn't trust the hazel eyed girl, then it was because she played a prank on him, including boiling orange food coloring and pizza cheese for his tea. Then it was, well, complicated. Yugo had apparently liked her, and he asked her out. She had refused as politely as she could, but Robin knew the boy's heart had shattered. Over the next few weeks there, it had re-formed, with it's cracks sealed with anger and coldness. He had never spoken kindly since then.
"Hello, Yugo. Congratulations on your match today," she replied, turning around. "I guess this means Ukyo's somewhere near here?"
"Of course," someone breathed in her ear. "Right behind you, naturally." Ukyo stepped in front of her. Well, stepped was the wrong word for it. He didn't seem to be part of the natural world, more like a ghost. He glided across the pavement, moving slowly. "Nice match. Of course, he was no match for you."
Robin inclined her head. "You too. I thought I told you to stop sneaking up on me."
A smile briefly flickered across the ninja's face. "True, but habits are not easily broken."
Yugo tugged on a longer end of her hair, ignoring her curse. "I'll crush your friend, Robin, and you're next." He disappeared into the crowd, and Ukyo sighed.
"He's been like this forever," he told the girl, formal demeanor sliding off. "I think he's still hung up on you, even though you said no. Yugo expected it, but he trains so hard to become unshakable, that any little crack is the ultimate failure. "
Robin looked down at her feet. Talking with Ukyo relaxed her a lot, especially about the dojo problem. "Yeah. I was hoping he'd get over it, but I think I hurt him. And not just because of the 'tea' you helped me prepare."
He laughed. "That was funny. See you later, Robin." He slipped behind he, pulled her hair, dodged the kick she aimed at him, and melted into the crowd.
From the top of the area, Robin picked out Daigo's dark hair from the other's bright hues. He seemed to be headed out, soshe followed him, keeping at least three people in between them. Then, Robin couldn't see him anymore. Where did he go?
Can't find him. Or Doomscyther. Unless he got kidnapped or something, then he snuck off into the alley, going to Bey Park.
Good to know, thanks. What should I do?
Respect his privacy for once.
Fine... Robin stretched the 'i' out, annoyed.
Something was wrong with Daigo, and she had no idea what. Maybe it was time to ask someone who might know more.
She found Ryota in the stands, watching Zac perform. "Hey, Robin!" he greeted, bouncing up. "Isn't your turn on Friday? You going to try to beat all the other fangirls, right?"
Robin smiled. "Yeah. Actually, could I ask you something?"
Ryota leaned forward and nodded vigorously, eyes wide.
"Has Daigo been acting weird lately, by any chance?"
The violet eyed boy sat normally again. "Yes, actually. I talked to him about it, and he said it was extra training. But he told me this weird bedtime story that was more morbid than it usually is."
"Bedtime stories?"
"Yeah, like making up a story or reading one to a person before bed. Didn't your parents do that for you?"
Robin growled softly, the sound surprisingly animalistic. "My parents are traveling around the world, making money right now. They're in Ireland right now."
"Sorry for the question. It was some weird story about a dark prince and an evil shadow. Creeped me out, but I fell asleep fast." He peered up at her innocently, eyes wide. "Will this help your boyfriend?"
Why me? Robin wondered. "He's not my boyfriend!"
"Oh, right," Ryota replied. "That's Yugo."
Robin ran in the other direction.
The next chapter is DAigo versus Yugo!!! Will update tomorrow or the next day
Robin out!
