Chapter Eight

Joint Base Andrews, Maryland.

The marine acknowledged Eric and Maizie as they arrived at the base and motioned for them to drive through as the gate opened. Seeing Maizie's concern on her face, Eric glanced over at her, offering a reassuring smile. Despite thinking about her father, she remained completely focused on the mission. They arrived at the hangar, where military aircraft were stationed. Eric parked the Porsche and closed the door behind him as he exited. He retrieved the pelican case from the passenger seat, containing a sniper rifle AR-30 bolt action. Maizie followed suit,

They quickly climbed the ramp. Eric glanced over to one seat where a familiar-looking agent was sitting. It couldn't be Lex, Eric thought to himself. They last worked together on a mission when they were conducting surveillance at a Christmas party."Lex? Is that really you?" Eric asked, his voice filled with surprise.

Lex looked up from his seat, a grin spreading across his face. "Eric! Long time, no see," he replied, standing up to greet him.

Eric couldn't help but smile, feeling a rush of nostalgia. "I should have known that the director would dispatch her best agent for the extraction."

As they made their way toward the aircraft, the sound of the engines filled The hangar created an atmosphere of urgency. They briskly ascended the ramp. Eric glanced over to one of the seats where a familiar-looking agent was sitting. It couldn't be Lex, Eric thought to himself. They last worked together on a mission when they were conducting surveillance at a Christmas party. It didn't take long for Eric and Jennings to settle into their seats. While going over the pelican case, he ran his hand over it

His mind was filled with angles and details. To work, there was a lot to consider. As the aircraft roared out of the hangar, it raced down the runway and lifted into the sky.Eric tossed the chain of the 50-caliber casing over to Lex as he removed it and said, hang onto this for me, Lex.

"Why?" Lex asked in a curious tone, looking at it.

"It is from my kill; I kept the 50 caliber for luck," he explained to Lex.

Lex slipped it inside his pocket as he looked over at them. With what was going on in Ukraine, tensions were high. They could start WWIII with a single spark, and they didn't need that right now.Glancing at his watch, he knew they were over the Baltic. He was hoping that there were no Russian fighter jets over the Baltic at the moment. If the Russians shoot them down, the CIA and White House don't want them captured.

"The jumpmaster conveyed to Eric that there were 70 minutes left until jump time, indicating the Halo gear with a gesture."

As the ramp opened on the military aircraft, Eric saw Moscow in the distance. He rose with his pelican case and removed his oxygen mask, and so did Maizie as they slid on their gear. The jumpmaster nodded at them. They grabbed each other's hands as the aircraft grew closer to the location, and they jumped out as their pursuit opened as they glided through the sky and clouds.

Lex glanced out at them as the ramp closed. It was all up to them now. Although he was the lead field agent of the Alpha group, he knew all about the risk of getting captured and was sure the Russians would love to interrogate the CIA's deep-cover operatives who didn't exist. When they landed outside behind an old apartment building, the sky was dark as light posts lit up the streets. Their gear would need to be hidden somewhere.

Maizie stepped out onto the sidewalk in front of the apartment, as she could tell FSB surveillance vehicles were passing by in the vicinity. They would be operated under the Moscow Rules now. She still remembered the ex-GRU operative rushing her to the aircraft. She never forgot his face or who he was.She gestured for Eric to hurry and make his way to the front, behind the apartment. They sprinted down the sidewalk and across the congested traffic, overtaking the abandoned Jeep that was parked at the corner of the drugstore.

"Eric, we can't just leave our gear here. If the FSB finds it, they'll know that here," Maizie said in a worried, cautious tone.

"Don't worry, we won't be leaving anything here," Eric said as he tossed the pelican case into the back of the Jeep.

He couldn't tell how many times they operated in the dark on a need-to-know mission to protect their country and the people. And yet here they were again. Holiday once called them the lone wolves of the CIA, and he could be right. Maizie tossed their gear into the back as they slid in and closed the doors behind them.Passing old Soviet imperial buildings, they sped down narrow streets. Maizie felt the cool breeze on her skin as her hair flowed in the wind while her eyes remained focused on Eric and the road ahead of them.

On the radio, Eric heard that they had captured weapons from Iran and were sending them to Ukraine. As they turned the street down, Maizie glanced back, seeing a vehicle tailing them from behind a couple of vehicles. As they turned the street down, Maizie glanced back, seeing a vehicle tailing them from behind a couple of vehicles. She pulled out her Colt 1911, slid in a new magazine, and fired a shot that shattered the windshield of the FSB vehicle as it swerved into oncoming traffic. Eric admits to himself that she was an amazing markswoman with her skills and the way she aimed at the car windshield.

"We're going to need to split up so they can't track both, Eric. Promise me you will come for me if they capture me." She said this as she leaped out of the Jeep, stalking over to the vehicle and firing rapid shots at the FSB agents in it.

"Maizie I promise you, I will come for you. Nothing will happen to you."

Maizie knew what he meant; she could see it in his eyes. A lone wolf, but he was the love of her life. She raised the barrel at the FSB agent, her eyes narrowing on him. And she fired two shots into the head of the Russian agent.
