Awakening
The sun rose, creating a breathtaking glow over Neverland. It was full of bright shades of pink and vermillion. The palm trees swayed slowly in the slight breeze. Many mermaids were already awake and swimming along the shore of the beach, as they always did each mourn. The Shadow was watching over the children as they prepared breakfast. The shadow soon left though to awaken the master from his slumber.
These young servants had been taken away to serve the master and were known as 'The Lost Boys'. They had a very strict morning schedule, and they had to follow it or els they would be fed to the merciless sirens in the waters. Therefore, they lived out of pure fear of the master, and there were only a few boys still surviving on the island. Which was very rare, because, most of the time, whenever the master grew tired of a boy, he'd order the shadow to toss him into Siren's Trap. This was the sort of activity for the master, to watch a poor, helpless child die at the claws of a mermaid. That's how most left the island... death.
Slightly, the youngest of the bunch, was making up the cots near the now burned out campfire. He was always at work, because the master wanted to test how useful a five-year-old boy could be. The shadow had mistakenly brought Slightly instead of his older brother, Jonas. The master instantly thought that he would be of no use and thought to kill him, but Nibs, another lost boy, convinced him otherwise.
Nibs was about seven-years-old, and he was very skillful for his age. He excelled in all academics and strategy. He often read enormous novels that had been swept ashore by the rough waves, and he could read three years above his grade level! "The Great Gatsby" was by far his favorite book, but Tootles, yet another lost boy, always made fun of him and called him a 'nerd'.
Tootles was a more destructive and unpredictable boy. The troublemaker of the pack. His hobbies were wreaking havoc and blowing rocks up with gunpowder he occasionally found near Pirate's Cove. Although he was a little prankster and troublemaker, the master enjoyed his trivial activities. At that moment, he was preparing fish omelettes. His true love stood out for the culinary arts though, because of all the experimentation it dealed with sauces and spices for dishes.
"Hurry! Shadow's coming!" Nibs shouted as he finished setting the table.
The lost boys swiftly got out the cups and filled them with water. Everyone was rushing around to get things ready for breakfast. Slightly poured the drinks carefully as to not spill one drop of liquid onto the table. The shadow approached the camp, staring down at the boys at their laborious tasks. Nibs had seen it land and he quickly informed Tootles, ordering him to hurry up with the omelettes. Tootles nodded, adding more heat for it to cook much faster,
"Nibs! We need another plate and cup!" Slightly shouted, realizing the date.
Nibs set out one more spot next to the master's seat at the table. The other lost boys sat down, as Tootles plated the omelettes one by one. The shadow hovered around the campsite, supervising the boys.
"It's Sunday..," Tootles told the boys.
The others nodded solemnly.
"What do you think the new kid will be like?"
"I think it'll be a strong one. Peter never takes in weak recruits." Nibs replied logically.
"What if he's super tall so he can reach coconuts?" Slightly smiled a little.
"Of course not." The master suddenly appeared before the lost boys.
They all shuddered in their seats.
"P-Peter... Good morning..." They all stuttered, petrified.
"Good morning boys. I hope you all slept well," He grinned devilishly, "Especially after building the new barriers."
They sighed and reached out to begin eating breakfast.
"Stop," The master growled, the boys ceased their actions, "We must wait for our new arrival."
The shadow then went to him and whispered something in his ear. He nodded understandingly.
"I'll fetch her then." The master finally responded.
He flew up and away from the table, towards his treehouse home.
Angelique was waking up, as the bright light shone on her closed eyes. This made her squirm before finally awakening. She slowly opened her eyes, sitting up in bedd. Her mouth went ajar to let out a long yawn. Angelique's eyes explored the room in fear. She did not recognize her surroundings at all. She did not dare make a sound as her legs swung around to the side of the bed. She got up from the mattress and stepped on every inch of the room. Angelique went to the vanity, looking over the various objects in the drawers. The more she searched, the more she could not believe her eyes. The desk to her left now had a white lily laid on it. She stared at it before hearing a strange sound.
The vines that blocked the opening were steadily unraveling. He was coming. Angelique, scared out of her mind, hid underneath the bed in a hurry. The master entered the room through the opening, his eyes glued to the bed. He was surprised to find her not there asleep.
"Angelique?" He called out, beginning to wander around the room, "Are you here?"
His voice was very soothing to Angelique's ears, and she saw no reason against this man being evil. However, the girl kept hidden under the bed. She did not want to take any chances with this stranger. Her whole body trembled as she head his footsteps around the room. Who was this man?
Meanwhile, the master was getting extremely annoyed at the fact of Angelique's disappearance. A bit inside of him was worried for the safety of the girl, but it was crowded around darkness. The inside was blackened, but there was still a shimmer of goodness in the master. That shine was only for Angelique.
"Come out now. I am not in the mood to play hide-and-seek this morning, Angelique." He stated firmly.
Still, Angelique did not move from her hiding place. The master looked behind the vanity, under the dresser, even outside the treehouse itself! Until at the last minute, his gaze diverted to the bed, as Angelique shifted her position. A devious grin was placed across the master's face.
"I've found you now."
The words sent chills up her spine, and she decide that she would be as still as a statue. Nothing was going to take her from the spot, unless by her own free will. The master started to creep up to the bed, making his movements slow and frightening. He finally got to it, and with a quick kick of the bed, Angelique let out a shriek. A scream that sounded that of a helpless child.
"There you are..."
