Once We're Done, We'll Start Again! Like it's the Renaissance!
A while had passed since Grace's final show. Collette had slowly but surely worked her way into the show. She was incredibly talented, and Ashley was happy to see her progress.
Ashley was renamed Dance Captain after Grace's final run. It was easy enough for her, but lately she had been training more Alts.. three woman named Cherelle Jay, Zara MacIntosh, and Hana Stewart.
Ashley tried to bottle down her suspicions. She knew of a cast change, not one that would make everyone go, but some people, and she didn't know who were leaving.
Ashley had a hunch that it would most likely be Aimie as one of the leaving Queens. Aimie had been in several other productions before, and she was the original K Howard. Maybe it was time for her to relinquish her crown.
Ashley heard about the cast change when Vicki and Courtney were talking about it in the rehearsal room.
"We can work through this," Courtney was saying, "We can make sure that doesn't happen."
"How," Vicki had asked, "You saw Ashy in August. She was heartbroken."
"I.. I don't know," came Courtney's response.
Ashley hadn't cried. She didn't ask why. She knew all things had to end. All shows have to move with their casts. And besides, Ashley's memories would never change. The millions of MegaSiXes would never change. If anything, Ashley was more excited for the cast change than disappointed.
Until the day of the announcement came...
Ashley had been working with Collette and the new Alts. Hana and Zara had all went on for emergency covers, Hana as Seymour and Zara as Howard.
It was a brisk September morning when Ashley clocked in. She found Collette and gave her a massive hug.
"Coco!"
Ashley had accepted Collette as a part of her family, even calling her her new cousin, and Collette adored Ashley's youthfulness.
"Hey, Little A," Collette said, and Ashley smiled.
"I'm happy you're a part of the show, Coco. You're amazing."
Colette smiled. "I only had help from an amazing cousin."
They walked to the stage were two new women who Ashley hadn't seen before, where standing.
"Hello, Ashley," one of them said, "My name's Danielle Steers, and this is Courtney Bowman!"
The other woman gave Ashley a hug. "Hi, Ashley! It's so nice to finally meet you!"
Ashley hugged Courtney back. "It's nice to meet you too!"
Natalie took Ashley's hand. "Hey, Caramel. I think it's time you know who's leaving the show..."
Ashley took a deep breath. "You guys can tell me. I'll be OK." But she was lying to herself.
Millie, Maiya, Aimie, and Courtney stepped out. Ashley's heart fell to the ground, under the stage and theater.
"No.." she said softly, "No, it can't be.."
Millie was crying. Millie, who would never even frown.
Aimie and Maiya, the most outspoken people Ashley knew, were dead silent. All their words had vanished.
Courtney, the calmest cousin Ashley had, was shaking. She was scared..
Ashley broke down. On the stage, in front of everyone. She fell to the ground and cried. She told herself she would be strong, but with so many people in her family leaving, she couldn't take it. She couldn't stop the flow of tears.
And then she felt someone hugging her. Tightly. She looked up and saw Millie, embracing her. She was still crying.
Ashley hugged Millie tightly and cried even more. Millie stroked her hair, but no words of encouragement could come out of her mouth. She just held Ashley tightly as tears streamed down her cheeks.
Maiya, Aimie, and Courtney all hugged as well, holding Ashley tightly as she let it all out. And Ashley held onto them as though she'd never get to again.
***
Ashley learned what was going on. Jarneia Richard-Noel would play Catherine of Aragon, Courtney Bowman would play Anne Boleyn, Natalie Paris would play Jane Seymour, Alexia Macintosh would play Anna of Cleves, Vicki Manser would stay in the show as Primary Katherine Howard, and Danielle Steers would play Catherine Parr.
As for the Alts, Hana Stewart would be first cover Seymour/Parr, Zara MacIntosh would be first cover Aragon/Howard, Cherelle Jay would be first cover Boleyn/Cleves, and Collette Guitart would play as a Super Swing, covering Queens as an understudy.
Ashley Paris would play as a Super Duper Swing, a role made for her after she reread her contract. She apparently would play as every Queen in any cast worldwide that required her, and her contract, if she wished, would end on the day that SiX stopped worldwide.
Ashley had smiled and agreed to stay on the show until the world had ended it's reign, or if she grew too old to perform. She didn't ever want to go to any other musical. SiX the Musical was her home.
And as she signed her contract, she smiled as a thought came to her.
I'll always have family. No matter how far away they are, or if they aren't in the show or not. All the people in this show are my family. Always and forever.
