Chapter 13: A Date
(Y/n) let out a shaken sigh as she transmitted the last of the porcelain shards in a garbage bag from her small broom. The girl had attempted to concentrate her distracted mind on her job while consequently trying to block out Gennai's open threat with a dismissing attitude. But it wouldn't take long before her subconsciousness would revert back to the boy's warning on occasion.
She inspected the polished ground for any signs of left-over food splatter or specks of sharp pieces of broken plates. Concluding her job to have been finished with, the girl could afford to proudly smile at herself for another day of achievements. (Y/n) took out her schedule to look over any other tasks she was assigned. 'The garden? There's no way I'll be doing anything outside the building in this weather...' She sighed, folding the schedule back up to place it in her bag before realising her belongings were not around her person.
Looking about herself, she made the logical conclusion to have left them in Seok's room during her clean up. The female began making her way up the stairs towards the bedroom, noting the hour on her phone that displayed the relatively good timing she would be out of her shift.
Once on the second floor, she quickly ran to the male's room, feeling an unnerved sensation as her footsteps disturbed the silence of the corridor. 'It's the beginning of summer and it's starting off with rain...hope Mai is back home by now.' As the girl halted in front of the bedroom door, gently knocking, and called out for permission to be allowed in.
After a few moments of patient expectancy, she sighed before opening the quarters up herself. Once she entered she immediately spotted the bag on a table, awaiting for its owner to reclaim it. The girl checked around her surroundings to spot any sign of the boy that would otherwise inhabit the room. However, the empty bed indicated the male's absence.
She picked up her belongings before making a quick job at tidying the bed covers as she inspected the rest of the interior to finalise her work. 'Everything in the bedroom is sorted...' She jogged towards the bathroom to do her last rundown as she gazed around the tiled room. 'Everything seems fine in here...huh?' (Y/n) quickly caught sight of an anomaly in the aesthetic as her eyes were caught by a certain dark sheet draped over a reflective surface. The female became hesitant as she analysed the covering, uncertain of why it had been placed over again. The girl reluctantly stepped in to unwrap the material from the mirror, placing it to the side as she stared back at her own reflection. 'Hm, feels weird seeing myself as a worker now that I have a job...' She commented in her head before stepping out of the bathroom to reenter the corresponding room.
(Y/n) opened up the entrance to the bedroom, stepping out at the perfect moment to spot a certain blond, soaked from head to toe, walking her way, creating a road of raindrops in his path. The girl felt her own skin chilling at the sight of the wet boy as he made his way towards his room. The female stepped back to allow him to enter the his quarters, simply giving a concerned look.
"You ok there? You're absolutely drenched..." She murmured, the guilt catching up to her as she was reminded it was partly her doing. Seok gave her a regarding glance before a thoughtfulness entered his senses.
"The outside is cold..." Remarking the obvious condition of the outdoors, he ran his hands through his dripping hair to shake off some excess water.
"Try again when the weather's a bit different." The girl encouraged as she bid the male her departure. (Y/n) turned around to retrace her steps back to the main entrance. Walking around the corner, she spotted a large, black bag places by a room.
Upon closer inspection, she concluded the bedroom to belonged to her red-eyed assailant that had mercilessly intimidated her in their last encounter. Approaching the bag with couscous curiosity, the girl half expected to see a corpse in the black carrier as she feared for her wellbeing. However, once she opened up the contents of the inside, she could only see dozens of empty juice boxes piled in. The female formed a recognition towards the brand as she was reminded over witnessing the boy drinking the refreshment on a few occasions.
'This guy really loved his juice...' She commented, calculating the large majority of the bag's contents filled with the cartons. She concluded the bag to have been placed out for her to throw as part of her duties, so the girl took the black plastic and began making her way again. However, she became momentarily distracted as she noticed a figure preparing to enter his bedroom from further up the corridor, "Goodbye Giovanni, have a nice evening."
The male in question turned towards the girl in surprise from her sudden appearance before his entire body shrivelled inward as his bright, orange eyes strayed to the ground in bashful silence. (Y/n) furrowed her brow at his reversion while Giovanni seemed to make efforts in wishing her a safe journey, only for his voice to disappear for the final product. In the end, he ended up darting inside his room, under the deluded hopes the girl hadn't seen him, regardless of her call.
The female stared at the act as she retracted from saying anything more. 'I thought I made progress with him...' She thought, starting up her journey back once more. Upon turning towards the passage, she noticed another figure approaching his own quarters. (Y/n) became thoughtful whether she should try her luck with announcing her departure to the uncaring boy. "Have a good evening, Padraig."
The male regarded the bidding with the smallest of glances before immediately walking into his room without a second thought over the girl. The female sighed as she remained unsurprised at the reaction and wondered why she had made the effort.
As she reached the stairs, she carefully began descending down, cautious of the extra slip that layered the surface, until she reached the ground floor again. (Y/n) approached the entrance with the intent to leave, however, was temporarily halted as she noticed an image hanging beside the door inside a framed display. Her attention was attracted towards the unnoticeable picture as she closely inspected the photograph hanging to the rear of the room.
In the photo were all the males she had encountered that studied and lived in the compound. They each held poses that seemed to tell their own story into, what she could best describe, as the perfect timed photo. She couldn't help but laugh at each one of the boys and their own misfortunes that had been taken in the single shot.
Eban was frozen into a concerned pose as he seemed prepared to take away the electric screwdriver that had grabbed his little brother's careless attention. Beside them was a far from pleased looking Akai, who's surprised and enraged eyes blazing towards the dark haired boy that had jumped in his arms a second before the picture was taken, winking at the camera as though teasingly flirting with anyone that would come across the image. To the corner stood a distressed looking Giovanni, who's wide pupils stared at the plate of food that had tipped over, preparing to shower a smug looking Padraig -who remained clueless to the upcoming doom approaching his clothes- a second after the picture was taken. Behind them stood a resting Seok, who seemed to master the art of sleeping standing up as all the chaos around failed to disturb him.
(Y/n) chuckled as she shook her head with amusement at the layout before she was quickly reminded of another task that was placed upon her, before she had even arrived at the compound. 'This should count as taking a picture of them, right?' She pulled out her phone as she centred the picture on her display before tapping on the icon that allowed her to take the shot. Satisfied with the quality of the image, she felt a weight lift off her shoulders as she was left unburdened for the rest of the day.
Suddenly, she heard swift rustling as she noticed the black, garbage bag disappear from the corner of her vision. Turning towards the disturbance, she was faced with a tall figure, who's lime eyes scanned the contents of the bag with a scrutinising gaze. (Y/n) quickly recognised her rude introducer.
Once Nori was satisfied with the inspection of the bag, he looked towards the girl with suspicion lining his sights. "What are you doing?" His voice was stern, holding an accusing edge to it as he spoke. The girl felt interrogated, as though he were searching for an excuse to kick her out of the premises and never welcome her back.
"I was going home, Sir. I've finished my duties for the day." She calmly explained, knowing she had nothing to hide from the dubious male. The butler narrowed his eyes at the girl with doubt. Before (Y/n) could register the action, she felt her own bag swiftly being snatched from her. "H-hey! Sir, what is the meaning of this?!" She attempted to grab her belongings back, but was forcefully subdued from the larger man.
Once he had her at a distance, the male began searching through the sack, in a deeply interrogative manner. Once he stubbornly admitted to himself there was no object of interest amongst her belongings, he threw the bag back to its irritated owner. (Y/n) held the pack close to her chest, under alert it would be taken from her once more.
"What was that about?! Was that necessary?" She angrily scowled, earning an apathetic response from the older worker.
"I cannot risk a lowly simpleton like you trying to snatch something away from this house." (Y/n) indignantly sighed a grunt out before throwing her bag over her shoulder where she defensively clung onto her proprty. "I expect you to be here at a reasonable hour tomorrow so that you finish all your work." He warned the female, reminding the girl of her day of education on a Monday.
"But, I'll be a bit late. I have school tomorrow-"
"Do you want to keep this job?" His tone hushed, sending an unnerved and panicked sensation spreading in (Y/n)'s mind. The girl swallowed down any protests and compromises that she desperately wanted to retort with, and obliged to silently nod her head as she shifted her gaze to the ground to avoid the man's judging gaze. "Then you better be finished with all your duties by 20:00 tomorrow, or else I'll be writing to the Dean of the Academy. Do you understand?" The girl pushed her lips together and clamped down her jaw, knowing she'd say something off-handed once her voice would spill.
After securing herself into a more calm state, she hesitantly nodded her head once to indicate her understanding attitude. "Yes Sir..." She obeyed, making the older male walk away from her with a disgruntled huff. After he had left the female at the doorway, she sighed out her frustration as she attempted to twist the negative encounter. 'What's got him so distrusting...?' She attempted to push aside her offence and proceeded out of the door. 'What will I do for tomorrow then?'
The female carefully climbed onto the narrow fencing that bordered around the edge of a steep slope. Somehow, her feet had inadvertently carried her to the park, where she found to be the suitable environment to allow her nerves to disappear as she settled herself in another world. She cautiously placed both her feet securely on the fence, instinctively looking over the edge of the slope to incentivise herself to correctly balance on the thin railing.
The girl had been warned and scolded on numerous occasions not to perform her pass time of playing tightrope around the higher ground of the park. She herself knew what a risk it was to mess around such a steep area of the grounds. However, it became an unnoticeable habit of hers to walk up the hazardous fencing and soon developed her balance enough that the threat of falling no longer lingered over her head. Instead, she found her mind more focused and sharp as she was forced to concentrate on her footing and placement while simultaneously contemplating her thoughts on the past few hours.
She was unsure what to make of her day. She found quite a few advantageous situations and conversations that could possibly form a more welcoming environment, along with causing a few disturbances and annoyances that might work against her. 'Ugh and I have school tomorrow and I'm still expected to finish off the cleaning work in the house...at least mom didn't have any other occupations, I'm at a serious disadvantage here...' She heavily sighed as she kept placing one foot after another in a memorising pattern along the straight railing. She looked down at the tall slope as a shiver ran across her frame at the mere thought of her body plunging down the ground.
"(Y/n)!" The female in question was snapped out of her daydream to look back to see a running form heading her way with a speeding sprint. Her eyes widened at the intense look on her female friend as she was clearly running towards her at top speed. "B***h, don't move!" She shouted to the girl that stood frozen on the fence.
(Y/n) quickly jumped back onto the path as she began running the other way to escape her beaconing friend. The drive was instinctual as she knew whenever Maeda displayed that kind of zeal, she would most likely get involved in one of her schemes. The girl kept sprinting towards the exit of the park in hopes of escaping her companion who showed no signs of retreating from the chase.
As the female looked around for any possibilities of dodging out of sight, she noticed a figure running on another path converging with her own. The girl quickly sped up to catch the individual that was casually jogging around the park as a routinely action. "Mikah, help!" Her brother looked towards her before looking back to see her friend right on her heels. The boy stared at the two girls and lifted (Y/n)'s hopes up when he contemplatively considered her. However the boy soon made a swift turn that allowed him to avert the scene as though he had never met the girl. "Big brother, come back here!"
She shouted for the retreating boy before looking back in time to let out a scream as she felt a body tackle her to the grass. The female panted as she began feeling the effects of the sudden spur of exercise she had to endure and slowly slid out of the weight above her.
"What's wrong with you?" She genuinely asked her excited friend while the attacking girl attempted to straighten up from her fall.
"The f**k is wrong with you? Don't you recognise your friend anymore?" Maeda pouted, finally managing to stand up beside her target. (Y/n) suppressed the urge to role her eyes as she helped her companion dust off her clothing. "Ugh, now we're both muddy...so how did your day go?" She curiously enquired.
(Y/n) raised her eyebrow at the suspicious concern over her enjoyment of the job before realising what the girl was leading up to ask. "I took the pictures that you wanted."
"Oh thank God. I was worried you wouldn't seriously do it." The female leaned onto her friend with an impatient grin and expectant wide eyes. "Well, show me the goods!" She bounced up and down in anticipation as (Y/n) proceeded to take her phone out to display the secret image she had taken before the hand holding the device was slapped away, nearly knocking the electronic out of her grip. "No! I can't!" Maeda quickly covered her eyes in guilty disapproval. "I promised Marco that we'll make a judgement together. I can't look without him." The girl slumped against her friend as (Y/n) put her phone away to minimise the girl's urges.
"Speaking of Marco, where's him and Mai?" She suspiciously eyed her companion, hoping the older pair hadn't forgotten the little girl in the zoo.
"I left Marco to take her home and came to find you. I knew you'd be here." She pompously stated with a proud smirk from her deductive reasoning. "I wanted to make sure you had actually taken the pictures and that you made it through your second day alive." She humoured, nudging the girl in a teasing manner.
"You were scared to go home alone, weren't you?" (Y/n) assumed, knowing the girl to have ulterior motives than what she would lead on to. Maeda's posture immediately shrivelled as her esteem crumbled at the exposure of her facade.
"W-why would you think that?! That's bulls**t. I've walked home alone plenty of times; even in the night." She attempted to smooth out her reveal with a shaky grin that failed to fool her friend.
"Because it rained not too long ago and I know you're scared of thunder. Probably got you paranoid now." Maeda attempted to stutter out a rebuttal, only for her tongue to get twisted with each start of an explanation and completely mute for the second half. (Y/n) amusingly chuckled at the embarrassed display before gently patting her concerned companion's back. "Come on you wuss. I'll hold your hand on the way if you want." She teased as she purposefully took the girl's hand in a taunting manner, only for the girl to rip her limb away with a humiliated blush.
"Just walk me home already!" She snapped as she began making her journey to her own premises. (Y/n) silently walked beside the agitated teenager like a protective shadow and a presence of comfort before the dark haired girl broke the silence. "It's pretty surprising how much it rained for summer, huh?"
"Not really. I've seen storms during summer so this is pretty tamed." Maeda shrugged her neutral agreement.
"Yeah, I guess...hope it doesn't start raining again. That would be such a-" As the girl turned towards her friend to comment her remark, (Y/n) noticed the female's eyes shoot wide open, as though she were witnessing a horrific scene before her. (Y/n) raised her eyebrow at the sudden reaction as she wondered if her own appearance was causing the fearful look. However, she soon realised the dark haired female's gaze was directing past her as her entire form shrunk like a cowering animal that was being held at gunpoint.
The (h/c) haired girl looked towards the disturbance that had deeply affected her company, only to see nothing in the distance where the distress had originated. (Y/n) turned back to her friend to see the girl looking at the ground as she seemed to be light years away from reality in her own calculative thoughts. "Maeda? Hey, look at me. Are you listening?" After a few attempts of bringing the female back to earth, a light shaking managed to snap the distracted teen out of her mindful contemplation with a startle. The collected girl attempted to gently inquire on her friend's unforeseen change in attitude, only for the female in question to begin pacing away without the expectancy of being escorted any further.
"(Y/n), you go on ahead. I can leave by myself." Her words seemed empty and devoid of any emotion, not knowing what tone would be suitable to match her instruction or hide her true emotions. The abandoned girl stared at the departing female with a concerned visage and would have ran to push on for answers, had she not realised the lateness of the ending day.
'I have to get home and prepare dinner...' She cursed herself for her poor time management as she looked on at her disappearing companion. "...Wanna talk on the phone later?" She shouted towards her, hoping to resolve the issue over a call.
Maeda, however, denied the offer with a vigorous shake of the head as she refused to turn back and show her face to the girl. "No! I've got homework!" She raised her voice before running off from the scene. (Y/n) knew the excuse to be a lie as she couldn't remember the last time the girl had given her school work in, and only weighed on her mind on the way back home.
Upon entering the house, her occupied thoughts were flung out of her mind as she heard amused and cheerful voices coming from the living room. Approaching the source of the sounds, the girl discovered the happy chirps to be from her younger sister and male friend.
"Did you have fun today?" (Y/n) quizzed, entering the room to join the two. Marco gave a forced smile while Mai excitedly nodded her head with amusement before pointing to the boy's shamed face.
"Marco got spat on by a llama." The older girl had to keep in her laughter in as the boy reddened with embarrassment.
"I-I take that as a compliment, it meant I felt threatening." The male attempted to straighten his back in pride as he desperately clung onto the less degrading assumption.
"I read somewhere that llamas do that to discipline the lower ranks of the herd." (Y/n) tittered to herself as Mai joined in on the silent mockery while the boy could feel his self-esteem sinking to the floor.
"A-anyway, here. We got you a souvenir from the zoo." He tossed the girl a small keychain that was attached to a metallic head of a panda.
"Cute...how cheap was it?" She inquired, knowing the item to be of little worth if it were bought by her companions. Marco laughed a few times with forceful denial before he bowed his head in shame.
"It came in a pack of four and it was on sale." He admitted before standing up from his sitting position on the floor and patting the smaller girl's head. "Glad you had fun Mai. Take care of your keychain as well." The child promisingly hummed her agreement as she hugged a small item into her chest for safety. "Oh and (Y/n), did you take the pictures?"
"Yep, they're right here-" As she took out her phone to demonstrate, the boy clasped a hand over his eyes in panic.
"No! I promised Maeda we would look together. Save them for tomorrow." He felt his way around the room, under the paranoia if his sights were to be unobstructed, he would break his vow by gazing at the images. (Y/n) watched on as the boy struggled out of the room and towards the doorway. "See you tomorrow!" He shouted.
The two female stood in the room with equally uncertain looks on their faces before Mai smiled towards her sister. "Your friends are weird."
"Aren't we all?" She mused back.
Monday, May 30th
"Come on! I want the good stuff!" Maeda jumped and fidgeted with anticipation as she agonisingly waited for her friend to display the pictures she had taken of the males for the sake of her friends' curiosity. The pair of companions had unnervingly awaited the whole school day with the constant mystery of the employers' appearances looming over their heads.
"I took a photo of a picture that they're all in. I think it came out pretty alright, definitely wasn't going to just ask them to pose in real life." She handed her phone to the edging pair as they snatched the device and battled over who would be blessed with the best view.
(Y/n) silently waited for the two to satisfy themselves with memorising the identities of the males and comment on the presentation. "Wow...can I apply to work here?" Maeda remarked as her eyes sparkled with satisfaction and approval.
"No kidding. Your mum got seriously lucky. And now that luck passed down to you." Marco examined each male with even more curiosity than before. "So, can you give us a few notes and impressions on each guy? Your work place must really be a paradise." The girl raised her eyebrow at the request.
"You want me to give you my impression of each one?" Her two friends nodded in unison to display their agreement. (Y/n) uncomfortably slumped as she had the oddest sensation on her mind that her action seemed slightly unorthodox but permitted the pair to inquire. "Alright, which one do you want me to talk about?"
"Who's this guy? He looks like he's on top of the world." Maeda pointed towards the violet eyed male that grandly smirked towards the camera, unaware of the food that was mere seconds from showering him.
"Padraig...? Well, he has a bit of an ego and can seriously lower your self-worth if you talk to him for long enough. That is, if he allows you to." The two accomplices furrowed their brows at the explanation, before focusing back onto the picture at hand.
"Ok, what about him?" Marco directed the girl's attention towards the sleeping boy that was standing at the back where the rest of the individuals fails to disturb him.
"That's Seok. Can't really say much about the guy beside how lazy and disinterested he looks. He also doesn't spare your feelings and isn't worried about voicing his thoughts. He just has so little energy, it drains the life out of you." (Y/n) began walking towards the gate where the rest of her schoolmates were exiting through to return back home, while the two curious interrogators followed in distracted pursuit.
"Damn, who's fire-locks over here?" The female pointed towards the angered male that was frozen in time of an enraged expression.
"Akai? Haven't seen too much of him really, he likes to keep himself to himself. Though I've learned that as long as I don't try to step over the line he created, he couldn't care less about me." The female was reminded of her last encounter with the aggravated male and restrained from hitting herself for allowing her curiosity to take the better of her at that moment.
"Interesting...oh, what about this cutie over here?" Marco focused on a certain brunet who had failed in balancing the stack of food on his plate.
"Giovanni is a really nice guy. Though, he tends to switch between being a muted introvert to a bubbly cook in the blink of an eye. But I feel like his room will be the hardest to clean." Satisfied with the response, the male gave the girl beside him a turn on picking out the next boy.
"This guy seemed interesting. Quite good looking too." She cooed as she assessed the blond that concerned himself over his younger sibling.
"Yeah, Eban is one of the only guys that actually treats me like a normal human in that house. He's really sweet and really looks after his brother. Speaking of which, the boy next to him is his little brother, Gennai." (Y/n) indicated towards the careless male as she felt flashes of his fluctuating attitudes running around in her mind like a haunting memory. "Gennai is...very hard to read. You'd think you had him figured out to some degree, but this boy..." she trailed off, feeling the hairs on her body stand on end as she remembered the stranger that threatened her. The stranger that was hues away from the Gennai she had first encountered, "really concerns me."
Her two friends exchanged wondering looks at the sound of her rougher tone, before the female noticed a disturbance up ahead. "Huh, there's a small crowd near the gate. Wonder if some beef is going down between some guys!" Maeda emphasised, thirsty to witness a fight and be one of the spectators to cheer the winner on.
"And I can't really forget about this guy here." Marco commented, ignoring his partner's sparkling manner as he asked about the male that was winking towards the camera.
"Oh Lilito. He's...harmless for the most part, but he's a serious playboy. You can't avoid some sort of sexual harassment from him, regardless if you're a girl or guy." The male slightly sniggered at the description and couldn't help but ask for further information.
"Seriously?"
"Yes! This guy has no shame. He even told me that we were going to have a date today and didn't even wait for my answer." She irritatingly mumbled a few unflattering remarks under her breath.
"Are you actually gonna do it?" The female scoffed at the boy's question as though the mere idea was less likely than winning a grand award.
"No way. This guy likes messing around anyway, probably wasn't even serious."
"You mean that guy, right there?" Maeda averted her friend's attention towards the crowd of girls that circled a single individual, who's playful chuckles stirred the entire female student body. (Y/n) face paled in tone as she realised who the owner of the vocals was.
"Ladies please! I can't satisfy all of you at the same time...well, not in public at least." Lilito's voice dripped with suggestive smoothness that filtered through the ears of each girl like an inducing drug. As the females sweetened their own chirps to attract his attention, his sights were then caught by the group that stared from the sidelines.
"(Y/n), I think he's looking at you." Maeda commented, uncertainly waving at the boy that had latched his sights onto them. (Y/n) slowly turned around, making sure to keep her eyes glued to the ground at all times as her stiff feet were forced to carry her away.
'No way! How did he even find out which school I go to?! I-is it even him. There's no way that's him!' Her comforts of denying the boy's identity soon crumbled as she heard an all too familiar voice calling for her.
"(Y/n)! Wait right there! Your nobleman has arrived." Lilito leaned down to gently speak to one of the girls beside him who he had leant his glasses to for the sake of indulging her intrigue. "Ah, thank you for keeping them safe for me little darling." He gingerly lifted the spectacles off of the girl's face, making her glow red with the delicate mannerism. "You have such pretty eyes. Make sure to take care of them so you don't end up wearing these for the rest of your life." He indicated towards the optics before walking out of the parted crowd to leave the girl in a ditzy mess.
(Y/n)'s eyes widened as she realised him approaching her. She quickly spun around as her muscles finally found the strength to dash. However, she ended up hitting a body the moment she set one foot in front of the other, as a pair of hands secured her in place by the shoulders. "H-how did you just teleport?!" She shouted, realising it was the male she intended to escape that had captured her.
"Told you I've got skill." He winked at the girl as he began leading her away with a few stares and bemused gazes following their form. The captive female turned towards her friends for a last request of aid as she mouthed for their help in a silent plead.
"We'll...look after Mai for you?" Maeda uncertainly reassured the girl, unsure whether her concern was corresponding with her friend's prayers.
"Not that kind of help!" (Y/n) screamed, unable to utter another word before she was separated from her safety zone.
"Lilito, I'm sorry but I have to go to work. Not only that, I never said I'd go out with you in the first place." (Y/n) scolded the grinning male as he simply regarded her concerns with an apathetic shrug.
"Aww, come on. I had to bunk my last class to get here on time. At least give me a tour. I've never been to this part of town before. Like, look at that!" He excitedly pointed towards a metallic cylinder that overflowed with junk. "I've never seen that trash can before! What an exquisite sight..." He admired the worthless landmark in awe as the girl proceeded to walk past him towards the bus stop where she would return to her routinely job. "But I wanna stay! How am I supposed to navigate my way around if I don't know the place?" He whined, attempting to earn the girl's sympathy.
"Then learn!" She snapped at him, covering her ears to block out any pestering that the male would send her way. After a few moments of muffled blabber, followed by silence. The girl felt the guilt of her harsh response, making her turn around to check on the muted male. Her pupils contracted as she became witness of the boy striding up to a certain dangerous group of shady individuals like an oblivious bystander.
"Excuse me lovely gentlemen, I'd like to ask for some directions." The males in question eyed the boy with uncertainty as they gave the clueless approacher wary glares that meant to warn him on keeping his distance. "Could you point me to-"
"Are you a moron?!" (Y/n) grabbed the boy as she turned him away from the gang to avoid making eye contact. "I'm sorry. He's new here. I'll make sure to tell him not to disturb you." She spoke between clenched teeth as she pushed the male away from the ominous group as the pair was scowled after by a number of bloodied gazes.
Lilito was pushed past a corner, holding a puzzled gaze towards the panicked girl as she panted with relief from the escape. "Well, they seemed like a nice group of guys." He chirped, stretching the girl's nerves like the strings of a harp.
"That 'nice group of guys' is the most dangerous gang you can come across around here! They work through proxies so you never know which one of them is out to get you, and they have seriously deep connections! Last time someone bothered them, Steve disappeared!" She frantically explained, avoiding taking an air of breath between any word as she quickly ran through the consequences of the interaction while the boy processed with effort.
"Who's Steve?"
"Exactly!" She exclaimed, situating the purpose of her point with the final remark before turning her back on the boy. "I'm leaving. If you choose to talk to those guys that's all on you, but I really need to get going right now."
She hastily began speeding past the corner, making sure not to connect sights with the isolated group of dubious young men, when her feet froze at the sound of raved barking emanating from the direction she had previously left. The girl pivoted back on her toes to inspect the loud growls and roars, praying she had not left the boy alone to the mercy of a wild dog.
"Lilito, what-?!" As she turned back into the corner, her face slumped as she watched the large animals playfully licking and panting in the male's face while he giggled like a blessed child. (Y/n) breathed out a sigh of relief, watching on as the boy happily rubbed the animal's fur, stimulating the creature's wagging tail as it barked with satisfaction.
"Yeah, big fellas like you run these streets. What a good boy! A nice big gentleman for welcoming me to this part of town." The boy enthusiastically commented, each word escalating the ardour of the friendly creature. As the female watched on, an amused smile formed on her lips as she began warming up to scene in front of her, and felt her worrisome attitude crumbling.
'Hhmm...I guess he can be a decent guy once in a while.' She optimistically thought, being weighed down by slight guilt over her harsh manner towards the boy.
"Yeah...big guys like you get all the literal b***hes." He chimed at the happy animal while (Y/n) expression stiffened into a disappointed scowl as she felt her shifting impressions were spoken too soon.
"Come on. Leave the animal alone, we need to get back to the house before it's too late." She grabbed the boy by the collar of his shirt and raised him to drag the male away from the harmless stray.
"What? But wait! I-I love him!" He reached out towards the animal, only to be denied the reciprocation from the dog as it merely stood in the same spot, watching the two teenagers distancing themselves from him. "I'll never forget you...you just took me away from what could have been 'the one'." Lilito whined, immediately being released by the disgruntled female. "I don't want to go back home yet. It's so boring there." He complained, crossing his arms in protest of complying with his guide's wishes.
"Well I have a job. I can't be late for this or else I might get myself -and even my mum- in serious trouble. You do what you want, now I'm seriously leaving." The female turned around once more, intent on keeping her remark as she began making her way towards the bus stop once again. However, she was not even a few feet away before her ears perked at the sound of the boy's playful shouts.
"Hey there sweetheart! What's your name?" (Y/n) turned around to curiously inspect his mischievous antics. The boy was waving towards a girl not too far away from him, as he attempted to get the distracted female's attention. Upon recognising the female he was howling towards, (Y/n) felt her muscles stiffen as blood began quickly circulating through each vein in her body.
"Don't!" She pulled the boy's hand down as she tugged on him to decrease his size. Lilito gave her a bewildered stare as he subconsciously requested for insight on her reaction. The female leaned in closer to the boy to whisper her warning in a hushed tone. "Don't trust that girl. All the boyfriends she's ever had end up going missing somehow. And she's never even been sad about their disappearances, it's absolutely shady." She suspiciously watched the unbeknown girl as she walked away from the pair to her own business.
(Y/n) let go of the boy as she attempted to settle her pounding heart from the close danger. She then let her head tilt down to the ground as a dawning realisation came to her that she had never realised how actually dangerous her environment was. The girl felt slightly foolish at all the lurking hazards around each corner and felt a burdening responsibility for the stubborn boy.
"Lilito, listen..." The boy intently waited for the rest of her sentence as the girl fidgeted and stared at the time on her phone. "How desperate are you to stay here?" The boy gave a wide smile to indicate his obdurate eagerness that only complicated matters for the girl. "Alright, listen. I'll take you to go eat somewhere if you just promise me you'll agree to go back home right after, OK?" She clasped her hands in a pleading manner, praying for the boy to agree with her terms.
Lilito spent a few contemplative seconds watching the begging girl, tapping his chin in teasing thoughtfulness before the corners of his lips parted in a smile. "Deal. It's a date then."
"It's not a date." She corrected the ignorant boy as he scanned around the area for any dining facilities to accommodate them.
"Ooo! I wanna go to that place! They have prizes!" The dark haired boy bolted towards the direction he had been indicating, immediately followed by the panicking girl. Lilito stopped in front of a window presenting a poster. As the female approached the structure, she only slightly recognised the restaurant as she had only gazed upon it a consecutive number of times without actually giving much consideration in the past. Looking towards the display, she noticed the poster promising a free coupon for an 'all you can eat' meal, along with a special prize to whoever would manage to completely eat the restaurant's special, jumbo omelette. "So this is what urban areas do for entertainment. I wanna try!" Before the girl had a chance to voice her opinion, the boy had already entered the building, leaving his grumpy partner in the dust.
As the female situated herself down on the opposite side of the table, she doubtfully watched the agitated flamboyant male. "Are you sure you want to take on this challenge?" She raised her eyebrow at the boy who enthusiastically nodded with excitement, lifting his hand up to attract the attention of a waitress.
"I've always wanted to try out one of these food things. It's on my bucket list." He added the final comment before turning his sights towards the female that had come to serve them. "I would like that omelette prize thing that's on the poster." The young woman looked towards the window where the sheet of paper was stuck for the exposure of potential customers before turning towards the boy with an uncertain smile.
"A-Are you sure Sir?" She stammered, intending to warn him of the upcoming trial.
Lilito disregarded the hinting suggestion before taking the waitress' hand in a reassuring hold. "I'm more than sure, lovely. And I only want this dish to be served by these lovely hands, if you please." He squeezed her palms together with his before letting go of the flustered female.
"R-Right away Sir."
The boy turned back to his partner to see her giving him a dubious expression that held some judgement in it. "Don't look at me like that. I promise I'll be finished with this in no time." He assuringly patted his chest while (Y/n) suppressed the urge to shake her head in doubting discouragement.
"Here you go Sir. Good luck." The boy prepared to thank the young woman for her assistance when all his words disintegrated the moment he laid his eyes on the large circular platter that held a mountain of freshly steaming, scrambled eggs, oozing with warmth and natural juices. Lilito felt his stomach tightening as the table creaked from the dish's weight and looked over to the other side to see (Y/n) retracting back in intimidation from the large portion.
"Well...is this urban food? It's bigger than my body..." He commented, poking the pile as though it were alive.
"You sure you can eat all that?" She commented, eyeing the structure of the warm goods with calculative assumption.
"Of course! I...I can definitely do it!" He forcefully boasted, feeling his spirits wilt as he looked on with worry.
"That's humanly impossible. You can't possibly eat something that'll feed an entire family!" She hissed, making the boy flair up at her distrust of his skills.
"Of course you'd say that. You can never eat this entire thing on your own! But now I need to." He snapped back with just as much frustration.
"Madam hold on." (Y/n) abruptly stopped the waitress in her tracks right before she had left the table. "Bring me one too." The woman's face paled as she shook her head in an attempt to save the girl and tried to stammer out words to dismiss her request. "I'm doing this and I'm not backing down. Bring another one."
"Are you sure...?" The worker asked, replied to with a nodding head before being dismissed.
Lilito uncertainly looked over at the girl as he slumped on the table. "What are you doing? Did I strike a nerve or something?" He raised his eyebrow, wondering if his words seriously had an effect on the girl.
However, (Y/n) shook her head to neutralise his assumption. "No, I'm not doing it to compete or prove anything. I don't want to let you suffer alone on this." The boy was slightly surprised by her reasoning, feeling the girl's words lifting him with supportive hope at her inclusion. "We came in here together and we're going to finish this together. Besides, we came here to eat, might as well go all out." She pumped herself up while Lilito silently admired her persistence and appreciating her sacrifice for his benefit.
As her own dish was placed down before her, (Y/n) could feel her insides shrinking in protest to take in the food, seeming even larger now that it was displayed before her. "You've got one hour to finish it. Good luck you two."
"So there's a time limit...that's fine, we need to leave by then as well. Let's do this." She gave the boy an encouraging smile before he returned the support.
"Yes. We can do this!"
"I can't do this..." Lilito hit his head against the table, finally allowing his stomach the time to digest the food he had been stuffing down, only occasionally chewing to simply elongate the torturous process. The male laboured in lifting his head up to look at his partner with an apologetic look to accompany his surrender. "I'm sorry (Y/n)...I can't-"
The boy gasped as he noticed the girl's own plate, which no longer held the ridiculous portion of the cooked eggs, but instead showed the bottom of the dish that had been emptied. Lilito looked at the body that had collapsed beside the platter as she gave only few twitches to indicate her living state. "God I can't breath...but I did it...I..." She lifted her head up to meet the boy's astounded sights to give him a relieved grin that took up most of her energy. "Please call the waitress before I have a heart attack..."
Lilito sprung up as he watched over the female's state, hoping she would survive through the transaction. As the woman came over to the table, expecting to see two broken teenagers, she gaped at the progress made by the girl. "We're finished here, could we get out prizes now?" He hastily insisted, hoping to give his partner some fresh air as soon as possible for her struggle.
"I will but...you two are taking part in this together, right?"
"Yes, we're on a date." The boy proudly informed while the exhausted girl mumbled her disagreement.
"Well...if that's the case, you'll have to finish your own one as well." (Y/n) shot her head up to look at the worker with wide eyes that were near sorrowful tears before looking over at the half empty plate that the boy had left.
"Ugh...I guess we're beat...there's no point Lilito, let's just go." The girl prepared to lift her heavy body out of her seat in defeat before her shoulder was gently taken by her waitress.
"Then this is your bill." She told the female, handing her a piece of paper.
(Y/n) stared at the woman before finding the breath to voice her confusion. "Wait...I thought the challenge was free. Like if we don't make it on time we lose..." She uncertainly told the woman, only to be responded with a shake of the head.
"That's only if you finish the dish. So if you're giving up, you'll have to pay for both plates." The (h/c) haired female blinked a few times as she shakily took the receipt from the worker. "And since you ordered two, that doubles up to be..." The woman didn't bother finishing, allowing the girl's mind to wrap around the cost of the food.
"L-Lilito! Tell me you brought money with you!" She shouted, flinging the paper in front of the boy's features, only for him to wince at the numbers.
"Not enough for that..." He silently said, as he shamefully slumped away from the enraged girl.
"Lilito, you better eat that!" She shouted, further cornering the boy in a pressured edge.
"I can't! I feel like I'll give birth any moment now! Where's Giovanni when you need him!" He cried out as his confidence hit a new low with his partner's judging eyes.
"Lilito!" She snapped, her face growing red with aggression as she was driven to a moment of dumping the rest of his food on top of him. However, to the male's surprise, the girl quietly sat back down as she hung her head low, feeling the air around her grow thicker as she would regret her next decision. "How much longer do we have...?"
The woman uncertainly answered the female. "10 minutes..."
(Y/n) stayed still for a few seconds, having an internal battle between her better judgement and her natural instincts. The girl reached over with a weak hand, lifting up the boy's plate with great effort to bring it toward her. Lilito watched in shock at her action, disbelieving her intentions as she held the fork in her hand once more to stick it into the congealed pile of cooked eggs. The female brought the utensil to her stern face where she took a bite out of the food to begin her final challenge.
"Strive on soldier..." The boy whispered to her, unable to hold his pride for his partner's vigilant sacrifice.
"What a spirit..." The waitress commented, deciding to stay and witness the great feat unfolding before her eyes as the struggling girl forced down her companion's share of food, despising the uselessnes of her spectators.
The girl collapsed back onto the table as tears streamed down her cheeks out of exhaustion and heavy satisfaction. Her weak neck managed to tilt her head up to where the boy had attached a napkin, with a doodle of her face, on a stick and was encouragingly waving it in support for her. (Y/n) looked towards the woman with a deranged look as her final question was the decider to whether her struggles were productive.
"Did I make it on time?" Her words slurred, her jaw exhausted from the consistent chewing she had done. The woman squirmed back at her enflamed gaze as she nodded her head as the final presentation of her victory. (Y/n) laid her head back down where she sniffled with a big smile. The waitress rushed away to collect the prizes for the winners as soon as possible in case an ambulance would have to be called up, giving Lilito a chance fascinatingly grin at the female. "I feel my arteries clogging up...I can't believe my body is still in one piece..."
"That's amazing (Y/n)! Let me tell you, out of all the dates I've ever been on -and there've been a lot- I've never seen someone eat as much as you. Especially for my sake, haha." He happily chirped, grinding the girl's nerves to a snapping point, fortunate that she was too exhausted to do something about it.
"Here's your prize Sir." The waitress returned with the promised gift as she handed the coupon to the boy.
"What?! I can feed my entire family with that! Why does he get to have it?!" (Y/n) raised her voice at the injustice as the worker simply blushed with embarrassment.
"But he's so charming..." She whispered, earning an agitated groan from the defeated female.
"Well...what do I get then?" She demanded, remembering the promise of a special prize to the winner.
"This." The girl took the item that was being handed to her by the woman, and felt her food coming up from its mere sight. Her share of the winnings was in the form of a large, stuffed plush that resembled the shape of a happy egg that brightly smiled at its owner. (Y/n)'s hands shook as she held onto the uneatable food that would haunt her nightmares for the next few nights while Lilito melted at the adorable toy.
"That's so cute~!" He chimed while the girl used all her remaining strength to turn towards the waitress as she lifted up the menus to indicate towards the drinks section on the card.
"Could I have this kind of juice, please? But to go." She told her, knowing the product would be a free request that came along with devouring the horrific dish.
As soon as the girl received the requested drink, the two left the restaurant. (Y/n) felt her lungs gratefully intaking the welcomed breath of air. She sighed out her struggles, feeling a hand press against the top of her head, incentivising her to look up to its owner.
"Fantastic job (Y/n)...I'm so honoured you pushed on despite me slowing you down." The boy giggled, teasing the girl with the undertone of mockery before he quietened all together as he was handed a certain cushy item for him to hold. "Huh...? Why are you giving this to me?" He uncertainly took the plush toy, looking over at the girl with a questioning survey.
"I don't want to see any more eggs in my life...besides, if you like it, I don't mind giving it to you." She informed, letting the surprised boy inspect the gift in wonder at her kind gesture. Lilito stared at the panting girl as she tried to heave down gulps of air to keep the food inside her. "Ugh, I'm never helping you with anything like this again..." She turned towards the boy to demand that he never take on another challenge, only to face a piece of paper being waved in front of her eyes.
"Then it's only fair that I trade this coupon with you." He told her, handing the sheet to the girl as she took it with a relieved smirk.
"Really?" Lilito nodded at her suspicious inquiry before he felt his body being enwrapped in a gratifying embrace. "Thanks man! I can seriously use this!" (Y/n) let the boy go from her encasing hug, tightly hanging onto the piece of paper that would provide her with a free meal. "I can take my sister and brother out to eat now...or, maybe I should wait until mom gets better so we could all go together. Hm...what's with that face?"
She gave the boy a quizzical glance as she noticed his furrowed brow that accentuated his puzzled state. He used his hand to pat around his body, seeming to look for something on him, or within him, only to be unable to find it, further driving him to confusion. "Huh, weird...hey, hold on a second." The girl cocked an eyebrow at what his intentions were, only for him to lean in and return her embrace with his own enveloping hug.
For a moment, (Y/n) considered the possibility of something inappropriate occurring, making her sound out a few dubious hums, only for the boy to retract with no other intended motif. Lilito, however, seemed even more lost as he fascinatingly patted himself down, still looking for a missing response in his body. The girl stared at his reaction, wondering what was leading his befuddlement.
"Interesting..." He silently commented, intending the note to be more to himself rather than anyone specific.
"Is...something wrong?" The female question, seeming to snap the boy out of his pondering state. He responded to her concern with a dismissive smile as he simply brushed himself off to indicate the unimportance of his actions.
"No, nothing. Hey, what's over there!" Before (Y/n) had a chance to utter a full sentence to further question him, the male zoomed past her like a dart towards the distraction. The girl followed his track of path as he headed towards the park.
"Wait! Don't make me run on a full stomach!" Her jogging motion began weighing heavily on her body as she was forced track the boy down inside the area. "You promised we're going to go!" She noticed the running figure ascending the steps towards the higher ground of the public surroundings, earning an irritated grunt from the exhausted girl.
(Y/n) braced herself on a nearby wall as she took the last step up to the top of the hill where the male had taken interest in visiting. She clutched her churning stomach as she felt the sweat from her hefty exercise forming on her drained face. The girl looked over to the boy that leaned against the rails of the gate she had visited the previous day.
"Oh God, I feel like I'm gonna vomit...Lilito, come on, you promised we'd go already. Stop stalling." She complained, approaching the distracted male who seemed content with looking over the rest of the town from his vantage point.
"It's a very beautiful town...it has really interesting people here, you're so lucky to have grown up in such a unique area." He shot the female a bright grin that flowed with energy while she returned it with a shrug. (Y/n) looked over to the view where the warm sunlight shined on each building and tree that laid out in front of the environment, giving a much bigger scenery into the regular life of her home.
"I guess this place has always kept things interesting...hey! What's are you doing?!" She shouted at her companion, nervously watching the boy climb up on the railing, wiggling slightly until a proper balance was achieved. As his arms lightly flailed to maintain his stability, the girl immediately took hold of his hand as she tried to yank him back down. "Get down from there! You'll die if you fall the other way!" She hastily explained, but her plea seemed insignificant to the boy who disregarded her fears with a laugh.
"If I was afraid of getting hurt I wouldn't do the things I do. Now let me have some fun while I'm still here." He began taking light steps on the line of metal, slowly but surely progressing further along. As he became more and more accustomed to his movements, he looked over to his partner to see her still grasping his hand for safety. "Haha, how cute, you're still holding my hand." He teased, urging an annoyed sigh from the female.
"You're my responsibility right now. If you die, I'll have to explain what an idiot you were." She complained while the boy looked out on the sight before him with admiration for the life in the community.
"Oh hey, I can see some sweet ladies from here~ would they hear me if I shouted out to them?" He questioned, being responded with only a shrug from the girl.
"I feel like you have an agenda to just get with every girl in sight the moment you wake up." She half joked, earning a giggle from the concentrating male.
"Well of course. My mission in this life is to love every girl out there and share my affection out to all." He confidently declared as a snicker escaped the girl's lips.
"That's a weird definition of 'love'." The remark drove the boy to smile with little shame at his reassurance of his stand point.
"My definition of love is for two people to join together in body, for a single moment that could last a short or long while, but forever be present in their minds. To experience euphoria beyond anything that can be achieved with material value as the most natural action is performed. That is the ideal for my view of love." As he looked over to witness the girl's reaction, he felt underwhelmed at the unreadable expression on her face as she thought over his words. "You don't seem too satisfied with my opinion."
The female was taken out of her trance to regard the boy as she could only lift and slump her shoulders in a neutralistic response. "I get where you're coming from and I do believe that that could be an important part of loving someone. So I can't really judge you on your own opinion." Unsatisfied with the remark, the male squeezed the girl's hand to bring her attention back to him.
"Then what's your definition of love?" (Y/n) was slightly taken by surprise at the sudden request of her own insight.
She took a moment to think over his question, leading him by the hand as he continued progressing on the metal fence, watching the girl in her thoughtful state. Once she seemed to have collected her thoughts, she lifted her head up towards the path, deciding on the wording of her confusing depiction. "I guess...love is...like a passing breeze. You can't always see it, until everything around you shifts. But sometimes you feel it, sometimes you can quickly catch it in your hands, but it always seems to slip through your fingers. You can't always know for how long you'll be able to hold it, that's why I've learned to appreciate it for the moment, until it passes me. And if you're lucky, it'll stay with you for as long as you need it to...I guess that's how I personally see it." As she concluded her analysis, the female realised her hand was extending backwards while she kept moving, as though the individual she was holding had abruptly stopped his movements.
As the girl looked back, Lilito stared at her, wrapping his brain around the female's ideal. However, his mind remained stilted as his perception would only allow her image and words to take over his thoughts. Amidst the unnatural emotion, he was nearly knocked off balance as a strong gust of wind hit his body, forcing him to instinctively grab onto the girl's hand as she provided the salvation with her secure hold. As he watched the girl's moving lips utter no sound for his ears to collect, Lilito felt a shift in his entire world occuring.
"-off of there! Get down! You'll die you moron!" As his conscience regained the ability to absorb sound once more, the absent-minded boy reluctantly let the girl pull him down from the hazardous railing. "What's up with the weird weather these days...come on, are we gonna go back to the house?" She awaited for an answer from the distracted male, while he continued to stare at the girl with a hazy gaze. "Lilito?"
"What-? Oh, yes, yes. Lets go back..." He finally responded, following in the girl's tracks as she gladly made her way towards the stairs.
As the pair got off of the public bus, the girl gently rubbed her stomach, feeling the food rising up from her insides. "Ugh...that bus ride did not do magic to my stomach...ok, what's up with you?" She suddenly inquired, pulling the boy out from his cloudy state into a startled jolt.
"Huh? What?" He suddenly stumbled out, seeming flustered at the female's awareness.
"You've been really weird since we left the park. There were at least 5 girls that sat around us throughout the whole bus ride and you didn't make any attempt to talk to them. What wrong with you?" Lilito entered deep contemplation before lightly shaking his head in obliviousness.
"I hadn't noticed..." (Y/n) furrowed her brow in suspicious confusion before proceeding to walk towards the intended house.
There was a looming silence over the pair, unnerving the girl slightly at the quiet behaviour the boy displayed. As she attempted to dismiss the unusual action, the girl suddenly felt fingers gently wrapping around her pinky, the touch aiming to remain unnoticed by the female. But to the failure of the intention, the girl looked back to see the male directing his distracted sight to the ground while tenderly hugging the toy that acted like a comfrot item. "What are you doing?"
Lilito shot his sight up to look at the interrogating girl, realising he was at a loss for a logical rationale. "I...don't want you to slip through my fingers." (Y/n) scrunched up her face in a muddled expression, trying to find a deeper meaning behind the boy's smile.
"What? Oh, finally! We made it." She looked towards the house that had been haunting her concerns for the past few hours with a relieved sense surging through her. "I hope I don't have much to do today so I can make it on time. Maybe if I hurry I can still-" Making a dash to move quickly towards the entrance, the female was obstructed as the previously light grasp on her finger became a stiff grip on her entire hand, forcing her to turn around to face the boy's smirking features. "Lilito this isn't funny, I need to get going-"
"But wait. The date is not finished yet. There's still one more thing necessary in order to seal this as successful." His purring voice sat in the girl's confused mind as he swiftly brought his face closer, engrossing himself in her eyes that widened from the unexpected action, taking her chin to pull her head up to level with his. "Let's see how far you'll take me."
As the boy shut his sights and began enclosing the space between him and the stunned girl, his lips managed to only touch empty air as he felt the body he was holding being ripped out of his clutch. Lilito's eyes shot open to check on the interruption, facing a pair of green optics filled with threatening intentions to contrast the composed smile.
"Don't go claiming things that aren't yours, Lilito." Eban mockingly grinned, holding the confused girl at a proximity from the male.
"What?" (Y/n) looked up at Eban, both out of surprise for his sudden apperance and with the intention to pry for an explanation over his words.
"(Y/n), you're quite late for work. Nori was wondering if you'd even show up." At the sound of the information, the female dashed away from the two males, afraid of wasting more time than necessary for her late work.
Eban turned towards the second boy who seemed more than irritated to the bone by the interruption. "Why couldn't you mind your own business? We hadn't even finished our date, what's up with you?" He seethed, becoming further agitated by the blond's unwavering smirk that seemed to tantalise the boy's lost chance.
"What a gullible fool..." Eban turned his back to his thoroughly discontent housemate. Lilito glared the departing male down as he returned to the compound.
Waiting to be left on his own, the boy looked down at the toy that he pressed up to his body, patting his chest and shoulders one last time to confirm the missing sensation that had been present for an excessive amount of years.
