Idiot!
The Serpent's Teeth:
His Desires
Idiot!
Severus
Severus Snape could not imagine what the Dark Lord wanted from him now.
As he entered the- in Slytherin colours, decorated room, he saw The Dark Lord sitting on a black leather chair.
Snape bowed.
"Get up, get up."
He did as he was told, waiting for that he was approached.
"What do you think of Haylee Rosier?"
That had been completely unexpectedly and he could only hope that The Dark Lord hadn't been able to read his thoughts just now.
"She... is a gifted witch."
"I mean as a woman."
"What do you mean, My Lord?"
"Oh, that is by no means a trick question. What do you think of her?"
"I don't know her well enough to give you an answer."
"But she's living with you, am I correct?"
"She came to me because she had go nowhere else to go," Snape said defensively.
He didn't like were this was going at all...
"She could have rented a room somewhere, after all, she isn't poor."
Yes, she could have done that.
"I can only say what I know."
"She's beautiful, isn't she?", The Dark Lord said after a short pause, and looked at his face intently.
"Yes that she is."
"And cunning."
Haylees seventeen year old self appeared before his mind's eye and laughed at him once again.
"She might be."
A sadistic grin appeared on Thee Dark Lord's face, which left no doubt that he had went through his thoughts.
"I want that you keep an eye on her."
"Is there a special reason to, My Lord?"
"Put it this way: she has more courage than her brother, but it won't be beneficial to her. Here."
Some written on parchment floated towards him and he took it.
"Go now."
Snape bowed again and then Apparated.
He dropped into a chair and looked at the sheets of parchment.
It was Haylees handwriting.
As the Dark Lord had done before, Snape read also read the story of the noble Amalia and reached the same conclusion.
Could this be real?
Had Haylee betray Lord Voldemort?
That couldn't be...
Wats that the reason...that as to why she took Bellatrix's place?
Snape realized that he had wronged her.
Then he jumped up.
But that also meant that she was in danger.
What should he do?
He was probably the only one who even knew of Haylees treason except The Dark Lord.
If she were to disappear, the suspicion would fall on him to have helped her.
A more than difficult situation, in which he found himself here.
It worked out well that he wanted to meet with Dumbledore the next day.
****
The wind was blowing strongly and forced the door shut behind Snape
The Hog's Head hadn't changed since the last time that he had been here.
He went into one of the back rooms.
Dumbledore was already there.
The whole meeting went on like always.
Only at the end of the conversation, as the Headmaster of Hogwarts was about to stand up, Snape said, "Haylee Rosier has betrayed the Dark Lord."
First, the old wizard said nothing, then nodded. "I know."
"He knows as well."
Dumbledore's brow wrinkled. "That's impossible."
"Well, the Dark Lord knows it anyway."
"Who could have betrayed us? If Goodwin didn't say anything, and Crouch wouldn't have said anything, only four people know, them and Both I and Haylee ".
Since Snape saw the light.
Dumbledore would have hardly approved of Haylee doing something like that
The Ministry may, however, not Dumbledore.
"Are we speaking about the same thing?"
"I don't think so Severus."
Well, at least both of them agreed on that.
"I'm talking about a list that should not have be written yet."
"Then we're really not talking about the same betrayal." Snape was dominating his emotions perfectly.
Did that mean that Haylee had abandoned her first plan?
"And what does Voldemort know then?"
"The Haylee wants to kill him... or wanted..."
Again Dumbledore became thoughtful.
"This list... what would that be for?" Snape dared to ask.
"A list of the names of all the Death Eaters," murmured the headmaster.
"Has she gone mad?" He could not understand why she would do that.
That was just...unlike her.
Yes, it did not fit her at all.
"I am slowly also wondering what's behind it."
"She wants to get her brother out of Azkaban, am I right?"
Dumbledore nodded.
"Severus, I beg you keep an eye on Haylee Rosier."
"Yes."
"When is she returning to Rosier Hall?"
"Tomorrow. In the morning." She probably couldn't wait to get away from him.
****
It was well after midnight as Snape arrived at Spinner's End.
He went to his bedroom, but he wasn't in the mood to sleep.
He restlessly paced up and down the room.
As soon as he had spoken with Dumbledore, he went back to The Dark Lord and had reported everything to him.
Almost everything.
He hasn't told him about Haylees plan.
It had therefore already begun.
He was getting soft.
Or why else would he not have told The Dark Lord about Haylees betrayal?
The whole thing was maddening.
Dumbledore and the Dark Lord wanted both that he, Severus Snape, kept an eye on Haylee.
And how was he supposed to do that?
She might have come to him, but that didn't mean that... What did it actually mean?
She had even said that she had thought them to be friends.
He didn't understand the world anymore.
Either Haylee was too stupid to notice that she had always seen herself as something better or... there was no or.
Why was he risking his life for her?
"Because you're a complete idiot," he said to himself.
"A reckless, deluded idiot blinded by love."
Sighing, he sat down on his bed and briefly buried his face in his hands.
The world was unfair.
But that was nothing new...
He just couldn't get her laugh out of his head.
If she had just said no... but she had to laugh.
If she had just said no, he wouldn't have felt so worthless towards her.
He should really get her out of his head before it got even more ridiculous.
Even Bellatrix had noticed it.
Who else knew?
"With your luck everyone," he said, staring at the floor.
"So I'm not the only one who talks to herself."
Snape winced and looked up as Haylee closed the door behind her.
"I heard you walking around earlier on, and just wanted to see if everything is okay."
"No it is not. But it never was."
Haylee sat down beside him on the bed.
"And why not?"
"Can I ask you something?" He looked at her.
"Sure."
It was perhaps the stupidest thing he could do, but he did it anyway. "Why did you laugh?"
"Laugh? I don't remember having the opportunity to laugh recently. "
"I mean... do you remember the ball?"
She nodded, and it seemed as if a cloud obscured her face.
"When I..."
"I know what you're getting at." She grabbed his hand and looked him straight in the eye.
"I didn't laughed at you. Or at your question. I'm sorry if you thought that. I'm such an idiot!" And with that she leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Why did you laugh?"
"I... uh ..." She laughed sheepishly and sat up again.
"Um ... well ... believe it or not... At the time, I actually went to the library to..." A slight blush appeared on her cheeks.
"Um ... to ask you. And when you asked me instead...it just took a load of my heart, that I didn't have to ask you..."
"I was such an idiot!" Complained Snape, whereupon Haylee laughed.
When she looked into his face, he did not hesitate, but kissed her. For a moment Haylee kissed him back, then she jumped up in horror.
"No, we can't!", Was the only thing she said and hurried out of the room.
And Severus Snape, who slowly felt like the fool of court, didn't run after her.
But he should have...
