"The Serpent's Teeth"
(A Tom Riddle love story)
11th November 1944
Monday
With agile fingers I tie my copper-red curls together into a bun. This should do it.
Satisfied with my appearance I look in to the mirror one last time and throw my Hogwarts winter cloak over my shoulders.
The library is still mostly dark with it being winter and barley 8am.
The soles of my shoes rattle slightly on the stone floor.
I woke up in quite a god mood this morning.
Arrived at our table I look out the window.
From here, the landscape to the early morning hours looks even more impressive, but all this can not distract me from my inner nervousness.
It is my first meeting with Tom since Monday.
I don't consider our collision on Friday as a meeting.
Also, I'm still wondering how Tom knew that I wanted to get something to eat at that exact time.
"Good Morning."
"Morning, Tom," I turn to him.
I have the impulse to hug him as soon as I see him, but suppress it.
To make it easier for myself, I sit down at the table.
"I've already started yesterday."
"How far did you get?"
"Not far," I smile and take out the book, the tables and started parchment.
"Let me have a look," he tells me and I hand him my parchment.
He nods, after going trough it and passes it back to me.
"You have until half past eight to finish everything, I'll have a look at it when your done."
I nod and prepare all the necessary materials.
Tom also pulls out his unfinished homework and starts working on it.
Punctually at eight thirty he puts his quill aside and looks at me.
I finish writing the final sentence and hand him the parchment.
He reads it carefully frowning slightly as he gets to the middle of the parchment.
"It's okay, but I would think again about whether this," he points to a set on the lover half of the parchment. "Is also correct."
I quickly take the table, I have used and realize relatively quickly by my standards, what I did wrong and improve it under Toms' supervision.
"Good. If we hurry, we can still eat something before the class starts. "
"What are you waiting for then?" I ask him, grinning, as I pack my belongings in to my school bag taking him by the hand dragging him out of the library.
"You seem to be in a hurry," he mocks and is now running beside me, but he makes no move to separate his hand from mine.
"I'm hungry."
"Then we should really run fast, class starts in fifteen minutes and any food that is on the table disappears in 10 minutes."
"In that case I'll go ahead."
"We shouldn't ... go to the Great Hall like this," Tom says soberly and lets go of my hand.
I grin at him.
"Are you ashamed of me?"
"No." He looks at me unfazed.
"Good." I give him my brightest smile and we begin walking again.
"Lets go now! I still want a bun!"
Once at the bottom I turn happily to him.
"Shall I get you a slice of bread? At your pace the food will be gone by the time we get there." I tease him.
"Do that," he says with a straight face and I don't know if its his way to show humor or if he is serious.
As he, however doesn't really seem to have a sense of humor, I'll probably get him a slice of bread with jam, that's what he eats every morning, my observations show fruits.
My friends observe my activities with an irritated look.
I don't normally greet them whilst standing and smearing two bread rolls.
"I'll see you later in class."
I say and storm out of the hall again, where Tom walks towards me.
"Here," I hand him his slice of bread and laugh at his momentarily perplexed expression.
"Don't get used to it, this is an exception."
"Got it," he says between bites and turns around without a thank you.
"Hurry up," he tells me and doesn't even bother to wait for me or see if I'm really following him.
He is a terrible tyrant.
Can't he be nice only once?
Pouting, I run after him.
Since my friends are still sitting in the Great Hall, I'll apparently be on time for a change.
"You could have waited for me," I gasp when I finally catch up with Tom.
"And please make smaller steps, I'm not as tall as you."
He doesn't say anything, but walks slower.
The door is already open, I scurry in to the classroom behind him and sit down on my seat in the last row.
Tom goes to sit at the front row near the teachers desk.
There are quite a few students in the classroom already.
Both Slytherins and Gryffindors.
From the corner of my eye I see Jean giving me dirty looks, but before I can think about it any further Bailee takes his seat next to me.
"What happened just now?"
"Nothing," I shrug.
"Tom was just waiting for me outside ", I share the half-truth.
I immediately get a bad conscience.
I just lied to one of my friends because of Tom.
I hate lies.
Whether I tell them or someone tells me lies.
Lies are wrong and end up hurting someone.
Always.
Bailee nods once and turns away from me.
He knows that I'm hiding something from him.
If only he knew how much.
