➽Chapter Thirty Two
The day came for all hell to break loose. Death was thick in the air of Asxairo as dawn broke through the heavens, knowing well that the ground would soon be painted red and that the underworld would gain more souls to torture.
Raiyah Vaolcris fastened the last pair of silver daggers through her jeans before gathering her dark velvet cloak and draping it across her shoulders. The windows of her room were slightly opened, omitting a chilly wind that rose goosebumps on her arm.
A knock sounded on her door and the figure of Orion and Falcon walked in. "Are you ready to leave? I just got word that the rest of the leaders are heading towards the wall along with their armies. They should be there any minute" Falcon informed.
"I'm all set. What about Onyx? Is she ready to leave? I can't have my main orchestra be late" she asked, buttoning the brooch on her cloak. "She is in the infirmary with Draco's body. She will meet us downstairs" Orion reassured her. "We should get going. The rest of the court is waiting for us."
With a deep breath, Raiyah nodded and closed her bedroom door. Her steps were wobbly, and her fingers were slick with sweat as she made her way down the main "Don't fret Raiyah. We've got your back" Falcon reassured her, tossing an arm around her shoulders. "Even if Cayah and Mavian are being complete bitches about this whole situation."
A small chuckle left Raiyah's lips, her cheeks burning red from his compliment. "I just hope I am doing the right thing. I have no clue how to be a leader" she said, earning an earnest smile from Orion. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, ruffling her hair. "Raiyah, give yourself more credit. You've been a double agent for the Inner Circle, risked your life during missions to obtain information from our enemies, have died several times just to save our asses, and you are a professor and a student at the academy. You do so much good for the community. You may not have a crown on your head, but you're every bit of a leader as your brother is."
A smile perched on her lips, her arms going around their backs. "How did I get so lucky with the two biggest lunatics in all of Asxairo?" Falcon beamed, tossing his head back in a dramatic flip. "I ask myself that every day," he said in an exasperated.
"It's also the same question Azura asks herself every night she's with him" Orion whispered under his breath. Falcon passed him a dark look, causing Raiyah to laugh on this dark day.
Yongui, Azura, Sahara, Castrin, and Alesandria were all waiting at the courtyard of the palace when they greeted them. Raiyah immediately took notice of the private conversation Castrin and Alesandria seemed to be immersed in. He seemed to listen intuitively, leaning closer and inspecting her with wild eyes while she wrapped her arms around him, whispering something into his ear that made him look at her with wide eyes.
"Since when were those two so intimate?" Raiyah suspected, crossing her arms. Orion and Falcon directed their gaze over to the two gossiping immortal beings. "It's no secret that Castrin is in love with her. Maybe she feels the same way about" Falcon explained. "Besides, Castrin has been single for so long. It's about time."
Orion hit him on the arm, but that didn't stop a sly smile from creeping on his face. Still, Raiyah watched with extreme suspicion. Before she could even open her mouth to reply, a blurry figure flashed passed her and she was engulfed in the strong arms of Azura. "How are you doing, Raiyah?" she asked, squeezing her tightly. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there to support you yesterday. I was making a round of visits to some witches who could cure Draco. I couldn't make it on time."
"It's okay, Azura. Thanks for your help. Did you get any answers?" Raiyah asked as Azura pulled back. Her wide eyes blazed with worry and her pretty face contorted into a sorrowful mask. "No. Every witch I encountered told me that nothing they could do would cure him. He would wake up on his own time."
Raiyah felt her heart sink, but she nodded. "Thanks for your help anyway. I hope Falcon caught you up with our plan today." She nodded, her unruly curls falling into her face. "He did. It's a brilliant plan. I'll be right by your side so don't worry."
Raiyah smiled once more just as the doors to the palace entrance opened and Onyx walked out. Her hair was wet and stuck to her face and her usually twinkling eyes were wet with tears. She was dressed in all black, the glint of her sword hiding behind her cloak. "Sorry to keep you waiting," she said, managing a smile. "I'm ready."
"Are you sure you're stable enough to go through with this? You don't have to be a part of this if you don't feel like it." Onyx shook her head, running her fingers through her hair. "No. I won't back down." Her voice echoed among the morning wind, her chest heaving.
A silence fell over the group, everyone exchanging a wary look. Finally, Sahara's voice broke through the thick tension. "Well, you heard the women. Let's go."
In a flash, Sahara transformed, her black wings rising from her back. She leaped off the edge of the courtyard, her silhouette present against the morning sky. The rest of the court followed her lead, their dark wings spanning across the sky as they flew across the morning sky.
Raiyah took Onyx's hand and urged her to the end of the courtyard. "Don't think about it. Just let it happen" she advised the Siphon, patting her hand. Onyx took a deep breath and shook her head before the two leaped off the edge.
For a second, it felt as if the rest of the world was falling before the exhilarating feeling of being lifted swept her senses. Raiyah opened her eyes to see herself gliding through the air, Onyx keeping a proximate trail with her large wings nearly overtaking her body. Behind them were Alesandria and Castrin, straying a bit further from the group but still on course.
Raiyah pushed forward, her eyes scanning the capital city until she could make out the faint outline of the wall. She pushed herself further, winnowing through the air until she could see the wall growing closer before her eyes. She slowed down until the soft earth touched her feet. As quickly as they appeared, her wings disappeared and folded into her back.
The rest of the court landed shortly after, their wings disappearing as soon as they landed. "It's about time you arrived" a voice called out. On the other side of the wall, a figure rose and Empress Cayah broke through the foggy gaze, her white dreadlocks gathered into a ponytail, revealing her startling eyes. "Come over. We don't have time to waste."
With a flick of her fingers, magic streamed from her hand and the barrier that separated them from the others briefly fell. Quickly, Raiyah ushered for everyone to make their way through before the barrier came up once again. Once they were quickly inside, Raiyah could make out the rest of the leaders and the enormous army standing behind them.
Warriors cladded in armor and weapons stood with respect, bowing as she made her way over. Arrows and swords decorated their hands, and some stood on horses that were dressed in shining metal and dragons who were gold chains and breathed hot steam from their nose. "We are putting our trust in you, Raiyah" Empress Cayah said, capturing her attention once again. "We are risking our armies and magical creatures for you and your cause. Don't disappoint us."
"She won't," Sahara said, coming up to stand beside Raiyah. Her hand rested on her hip, her brows raised in a challenging stance. "She has Vaolcris blood running through her veins. Failure is not in their nature."
Empress Cayah stared her down but said nothing more. With a stern look, she ushered them into the fog and guided them towards the edge of the forest where The Inner Circle and the rest of the world shared a border. "In case things take an unplanned turn, we have designed another escape at the south end of the border. Over there is a small portal that will transport us back to The Revian Palace if anything happens. It only accepts those belonging to the Inner Circle and bans any mortals or Desert Tribe leaders" Emperor Reybeck explained. "It's not a strong portal and will close in a few hours so we have to be quick."
"I don't exactly have this attack timed, Reybeck" Raiyah protested. The emperor turned around to meet her gaze, a frown on his lips. "Then make it fast" he replied, earning an icy look from her.
Grudgingly, the leaders separated their army into the directions they would attack the desert tribe from. Onyx ended up leading her group, Emperor Seron accompanying her to keep her safe and shield her from any defense spells she had not learned.
After a bit of a hustle with the horses and dragons, it seemed as if everything and everyone was in place to destroy the Desert Tribes. Raiyah turned her attention to Onyx who peered down to see nothing but clouds and the silhouette of waves crashing on shores.
"Are you ready?" she asked the siphon. She nodded her head, her magic gleaming gold underneath her skin. Raiyah looked down, just noticing the new faint Ruge that was tainting her arm.
"Good," she said, still concentrating on her arm. "Lead the way."
Sharing one last look with the Siphon, Raiyah watched as Onyx's wings flourished from her back. She let out a warrior cry that shattered the peace of the morning. A sound so deafening even the Gods were falling to their knees at the sound of her cries.
She pushed herself off from her feet and dived through the barrier. The rest of the warriors followed her shouting into the sky, their winged creatures and dragons painting a blazing trail to their target.
The familiar dunes she had abandoned long ago came into view.
Onyx held her breath as she felt herself lift into the sky and twist around the familiar obstacles of the flat land below her. Behind, she could feel the wind coming from the army following her relentlessly. Their large wings picked up clouds of red dust from the ground and the horses and dragons scattered the acid lizards and snakes back into their burrows.
The back of the Desert tribe came into view and Onyx slowed down, taking a deep breath as she settled behind a large dune that shielded them from view. Above her, the rest of the army split up into their assigned groups and soared different ways to every corner of the tribe. Holding her breath, Onyx chanted a spell. An orb of light rose from her hand and she used it as a guide to alert her of any danger.
The bright orb of light stayed white, never changing into the bloody red color she knew it would turn when danger was near. With a calm sigh, she turned over to Emperor Seron who was motioning for the group to move closer. "We need to get to the training grounds in the back. Then we can attack" she said to him, taking a few steps forward.
"I'm right behind you" the emperor whispered behind her, giving her an approving nod. Onyx took a couple of cautious steps and winnowed her way through the tribal grounds until she reached the barracks that secluded them from the training members.
She hid behind the wooden planks, turning around to motion for the others to spread out amongst the barracks. Emperor Seron came up behind her, pressing his ear close to the wooden planks. "This place is a living hell" he whispered, watching as the tribe members wounded themselves under the blazing sun. "I can't believe you used to call this place your home."
A lump formed in the Siphon's throat, taking her eyes from the members. "Me either." Clearing her throat quietly, she directed her gaze to the east side of the tribe where she could see the silhouette of the others hiding. She held her breath as she waited for a spark of light or a whisper down the bond.
Any signal to signify an attack.
Minutes seemed like centuries as Onyx held her breath, her eyes glazing as she slouched against the wooden planks. She kept herself entertained by watching the members train themselves, wanting to stop them and teach them the proper skills they lacked.
Ten, fifteen minutes passed by and Onyx was ready to emerge from her hiding spot and start slaughtering when a deafening sound split through the air followed by piercing screams. Onyx directed her gaze back to the east side of the tribe were a cloud of smoke and fire were quickly building.
The training tribe members had stopped, looking up to see the madness that was occurring. Without missing a beat, Onyx appeared from the wooden barracks and leaped into the air. Her wings flourished from her back and she drew her mighty sword to reign terror.
Her eyes saw nothing, but red as she attacked an unknowing tribe member from the back. Her foot cracked against her spine and the member yelled as Onyx hit her with a light spell flew her across to the dunes. The other members were now fully aware of what was happening and aimed at Onyx with their powers, streams of magic flying past her eyes.
The Siphon effortlessly channeled her shadow form and felt her body evaporate into a bed of smoke. She moved around the confused tribe members surrounding them in a cloud of darkness. Quickly she disarmed their weapons and aimed a light spell at them. Before her magic could strike one of the members, she was blown away by a huge ball of light that exploded between the members.
Screams of agony rang in her ear as she was thrown back to the floor, transforming back to her winged form. Through the crazy commotion, she saw Seron attack with the army, their weapons raised high as they slaughtered and fought the tribe members.
The once calm tribe ground was now a war zone. Onyx rose to her feet, wiped the dust off her blade, and took off once more. She zipped through the ground, running her sword through any flesh she met. The tribe members bounded her with chains and crushed her against scarring walls, but Onyx still managed to get the upper hand. She slaughtered, pull, tore, and tortured anyone that encountered her and her trusty sword.
Blood spilled on the tribal grounds and her feet, pouring over her hands and face as she fought to avenge her past. The Siphon ran through the desert tribe, looking up to see a stream of fire spill from the dragon's mouth. She dodged it just in time as the flames singed and devoured anyone in its path. Screams of death and cries of mercy pierced through the air.
Peering up at the chaotic scene, Onyx didn't notice the chains that wrapped around her legs and wings until a harsh pull dragged her to a nearby hut. A scream left her lips, a dirty hand covering her mouth as her head cracked against the harsh bricks of a hut. More chains wrapped around her body, cutting her neck and slitting her arms as the tribe members attempted to control her like a wild animal.
"Traitor" a voice hissed at her. Onyx felt a harsh pull on the chains, and she fell forward, her arms cutting against the rough floor. Her sword fell out of her hand and under the foot of a black boot. She attempted to reach out and grab it, but another foot landed on her hand and a hand pushed her head against the floor.
"Iresil?" Onyx asked, looking up to see the angry face of her former tribe member. Her grey eyes came into view and her throat came around the Siphon's neck. "Yes, Onyx. I'm surprised you had the guts to show your face here again considering how you betrayed all of the Desert Tribes."
"I didn't! These people are not what they paint themselves to be!" Onyx defended herself. The chains around her wings were pulled and the siphon could feel the strain it was putting on them. She turned back to Iresil, her eyes blazing as she grabbed the Elementalist by her shirt. "Let me go" Onyx warned, her hands trembling.
"Make me" was Iresil's reply. Her fists flew to Onyx's face and the crack of bones could be heard as the siphon stumbled back and fell against the nearest hut. Blood spilled from her lips and forehead, coating her mouth with a copper taste.
The chains around her feet were unraveled and used to beat her until her skin split open and bled. Onyx winced, struggling to get up through the bloody haze and brutal assault. She looked around for her sword, feeling her powers boil underneath her skin. Her breath hitched in her throat, her wings crying for help as she crawled through the small crowd tormenting them.
"Come on, sword. Come to me" she whispered, wincing just as another chain hit her back, forcing her to arch against its brutal assault. Her golden eyes searched until she located its brilliant head, the metal glinting under the sun and smoke of the war.
Coughing out pools of blood, Onyx reached for the first member she could reach. He screamed, dropping his weapon as she used him as an anchor to pull herself up. Her powers burned through her fingers, his skin singeing at her touch. Her nails had become talons and the siphon used it to claw through his head, hooking her nails into the hard muscle of his head.
The boy screamed and pleaded for mercy, but Onyx declined it, a sense of power washing over her body as she felt herself swim through his memories. They were dark and hazy and filled with nothing but screams of pain and ancient words. There were no memories, simply noises that filled her head until she could not hear the outside world anymore.
His life, the vital beat of his heart, flooded her body and his life source drained into her veins through her fingertips. His blood continued to spill down her arm until his body was limp and he no longer felt the need to cry for help. When Onyx opened her eyes, a dead body laid by her feet and her arms were outlined with gold and blue streams of magic highlighting her skin.
Those who attacked her before backed up, preferring to be killed by anyone but her. With newfound energy, Onyx grabbed her sword in one hand and a chain in another. She shook the loose chains off her body and went after her tortures. One by one, they fell at her feet as she beat and skinned them alive. Her body shook with energy as she siphoned their lives away, her blood singing for more lives.
Iresil ran away, hoping to escape the bloody assassin but Onyx's speed was impossible to avoid. She caught up to her easily and used the chains in her hand to catch the Elementalist by her feet. Iresil fell and was dragged to the Siphon's grasp where she was held by the throat.
"Please, Onyx. Spare me. We used to be friends" the Elementalist pleaded with her as the blade of Onyx's sword ran past her throat.
"That's just it Iresil," the Siphon said, licking her red lips. "We used to be."
Not waiting for a response, she siphoned her life away and ran the blade through her stomach. The blood spilled onto her sword as she pulled it out and let her body tumbled to the beaten floor in a bleeding heap.
Onyx looked up to see a flurry of arrows and balls of magic flying across the sky. She couldn't make out the silhouette of her friends, the sky blurry with clouds of smoke. Behind her, a loud explosion sounded as fireball magic ricocheted against the forcefield of the castle in the far-off distance.
Onyx turned around just in time to see debris fly into the air along with immortal beings.
The castle. Of course. Those bastards wouldn't fight their own battles.
"Onyx!" The Siphon came back to reality and turned around to see Sahara, and Orion chained to the brass gate. Around them were at least a dozen tribe members, beating them with chains and torturing them with their afflictions. The BloodBones twisted their bones and blood within them while the Elementalist tortured their minds in an eternal state of drowning. Those who had not perfected their craft simply whipped them with chains until they crumbled to their feet.
Without any thought, Onyx summoned her wings and flew to the entrance of the tribal grounds. She attacked from behind using her powers of light manipulation to summon a ball of light that barreled through the tribe members.
The light was blinding and created a huge force that scattered the tribe members around her. Sahara and Orion manage to take a breath, their faces bruised and bloody and their wrists scarred and slit.
Those that fell in Onyx's grasp were chained with their throat slits and others had their soul siphoned out of their bodies, their blood and bones twisted, and were pushed into the direct line of the fire breathing dragon who wreaked havoc on anyone and anything that came into its site.
Not paying any attention to their burning bodies, the siphon turned back to her friends and used her sword to cut the chains from them. Sahara fell to her knees and grasped Onyx's cloak, turning around to vomit blood. "Thank you" she simply said, not able to meet the siphon's eyes.
"We have to head over to the castle. The others are there" Orion said between deep breaths. He wiped the blood from his mouth, throwing himself behind a rock to cough out blood. "They need our help" he managed to say through his ill state.
"My wings. I can't fly. They're too damaged" Sahara said, turning around to show her battered wings. The feathers were torn, and blood spilled from open wounds. Sighing, Onyx looked up to see the silhouette of the dragon in the sky, barreling downwards towards the tribal grounds once more.
"Okay. Hold on tight" the Siphon said, pulling Orion towards her. She held their bodies in each arm and took off, her wings zipping through the sky. She made sure to keep close track of the dragon, flying around its tail until she was arm's reach from the golden chains around its neck. Taking a chance, the Siphon threw her friends on the back of the scaled creature before reaching out to grab hold of the gold reins.
Her wings folded into her back and the Siphon settled on the creature's back. She could feel Sahara's frail arms encircle around her waist as she held on for dear life. Pulling back on the reins, Onyx held her breath as the dragon let out a piercing roar before taking flight. Its leathery wings flew through the morning winds, its bloodshot eyes narrowing and streams of fire-spitting from its mouth.
The Siphon looked down and truly saw the horror of the attack. Bodies left for dead were dispersed on every inch of the tribal grounds. The warriors fought vigilantly, but some failed to stay alive. The magical creatures frolicked around, tearing any flesh that encountered their deadly teeth. Blood was soaking through the sands of the desert tribe like a river, coloring the copper grains red.
The castle came into view, sparks of magic ricocheting from its seemingly impenetrable walls. Balls of magic rippled the surface of the barrier but would soon disintegrate into nothing. Onyx could make out the familiar shadows of Yongui and Empress Misa conjuring balls of magic to strike the barrier once again. Onyx steered the dragon towards their direction, screaming their names as she did so.
"Yongui! Misa!" she yelled, capturing their attention. Yongui noticed the beaten figures of Sahara and Orion and dropped her ball of magic to the ground. It created a loud explosion, screams of terror followed shortly after. "What happened?" Yongui asked, shaking Sahara and Orion awake. Onyx shook her head, pulling the reins of the dragon. "Long story! I'll explain later! Where are the others?!"
"They managed to slip through the barrier when they were dueling the tribe leaders, but Rheynoak through it back up before we could get through! We've been trying to break it for hours but it's impassable!"
"Here! Take my place on this monstrous beast! I think I can get through!" the Siphon suggested. Yongui nodded, quickly, taking her place as Onyx flew towards the pulsing barrier, watching as sparks of magic rebounded from its threshold. Reaching out, she touched the curve of the barrier and felt the flow of magic rush to her veins. Her arms began to glow gold and blue once again and the exhilarating feeling of magic overtook her senses.
Onyx took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She concentrated her mind and let everything die around her as she enveloped herself into the gloom. She could feel her soul leave her body and her mind travel through the memories of the barrier. They were dark and unwanted and the power that surged through the Siphon's body was overwhelming.
Opening her eyes, Onyx looked down to see how fingers slipping through the protective walls of the barrier. It was growing weaker but was not faltering as it wouldn't allow her to push her arm through any further. Wielding her light powers, she conjured a cloud of white smoke and gold sparks. She let it grow, overtaking her fingers and arms until it rose as tall as the peaks of the castle.
Reeling back, Onyx launched her attack on the barrier. Her fingers were still siphoning the energy of the barrier when her powers collided with the impenetrable walls. A loud explosion rang through the air followed by a blinding light. A piercing scream bled through her ears before a mighty force sucked her through the barrier and completely shattered the protection around the castle. The Siphon hit the ground with a great thud, her body hitting the bolted doors of the castle.
The ruckus seemed to have upset the dragon as it let out a mighty roar and a stream of fire burned through the door. Onyx moved out of the way just in time to see the bolted doors melt before her eyes. Not missing a bit, Onyx grabbed her fallen sword and ran through the empty corridors of the castle. She could hear conflict and see the walls crumble as the ground shook underneath her.
"Onyx! The ballroom!" Yongui's voice echoed through the empty halls. The Siphon turned around to see her friend warn her from the top of the dragon. "They escaped to the ballroom! Find them!" The dragon took flight, its wings blowing a strong breeze that shook the threshold of the castle.
Without missing a beat, Onyx ran through the winding halls and found the staircase that led to the ballroom. They were long and winding as her footsteps thundered down the carpeted stairs. Her heart was beating in her chest and she could feel her face flush red with sweat and blood. Her muscles were screaming, and her knuckles were bone white as she gripped the head of the sword.
The further down she ran, the more she could see the concrete walls light up with an orange blaze. Launching off her feet, she flew the rest of the way down, her wings scraping against the railing of the staircase until she bolted through an open arc and emerged herself into a brightly lit room. Screams erupted through the air and streams of magic were launched in her direction, but Onyx was quick and retaliated back with spells of her own.
Her feet touched the ground and Onyx surveyed the scene. Azura and Falcon were fighting together, her sharp fangs and blades matching the speed of his spear and wings. Blood and saliva coated their lips as they sliced through bodies and flesh, Azura attacking a tribe member with her bare fangs latched around his neck. The members screamed and begged for mercy, but she silenced him by tearing his throat apart.
Raiyah and Empress Cayah were caught in a head to head combat with Rashnov and Rheynoak. Rheynoak had Raiyah by her throat, but the swift blade of her dagger cut his cheek and he let go, holding his face in horror.
Castrin and Alesandria fought with Heather and Irene. It was hard to tell who was winning and who was losing as every time someone was knocked down, the opponent was either attacked with a spell or the jagged end of a spear or sword. Emperor Mavian and his wife along with the other leaders fought with the rest of the desert tribe leaders, balls of magic ricocheting against swords and shields.
"Onyx. My dear. How nice of you to join us!" Rashnov's deep voice called to the Siphon and she turned around to meet his vengeful eyes. The fighting had subsided, everyone joining their groups. Onyx felt the presence of the court and leaders behind her as she faced the Head Tribe leader, an innocent smile on his lips.
"I can't say the same for you" she replied, causing him to laugh. "When I first met you, I didn't think you could become any more powerful or despicable than you already were, but looking at you now, I severely misjudged you."
His eyes examined her blood-drenched clothes, wounded and battered skin, and bruised wings, his smile widening. "I must say. Draco did a fine job training you. Such a shame that he is in a coma now."
Onyx froze at his words, licking her lips to come up with words. "How do you know about that?" she asked, causing him to simply shrug his shoulders. "You should be careful with the people you surround yourself with. Not everyone you can trust."
"Don't listen to him. He talks out of his ass" Raiyah reassured her. Rashnov shot her a dirty look, looking her up and down with disgust. "Hard to believe the good people of Elsavior trusted you with the throne. You're barely a leader in your personal life."
Raiyah glared at him but said nothing more.
"Onyx" a familiar voice called out to her. She turned around to see Rheynoak emerge from Rashnov's back. He was sweaty and disheveled with his clothes torn and blood on his hands. His hair was tangled, and his eyes were tired and glazed. Onyx stiffened at his presence as he looked at her in astonishment.
The tribe leader looked at his former lover who was covered in blood with large wings and a hellish glow in her eyes. She sneered at him, crossing her arms over her chest. "Rheynoak" she simply replied, eyeing him. "I'm glad to see you chose the right side."
"Onyx, you don't understand" he pleaded with her. She stopped him, shaking her head before he could say anymore. "I understand enough, Rheynoak," she said, her voice cracking on her last few words. She could feel her throat close and the tears swell in her eyes, but she batted them away.
"What can we help you with Onyx? Finally decided to join the right side?" Rashnov questioned. Onyx shook her head, raising her sword to him. "Stop the war between the Desert Tribes and the Inner Circle. It's not worth risking our people over something that happened years ago."
"Give us back Raebar's body" Rashnov shot back, crossing his arms over his chest. "You are but a mere pawn in a big game. Raebar was our best leader and the fact that the filthy leaders you call friends killed him and never gave us his body is an insult to any respectable person in Asxairo!" he screamed, making the Siphon flinch.
"Hell no! We'll burn his body if we have to!" Raiyah shot back. "Don't you dare touch him with your filthy hands! You're not worthy of him!" the Head tribe leader warned. "All of you bloody dwellers and hybrids think you are better than us just because you sit on thrones and live in a world away from reality. I hate to break it to you, but all of you are nothing but worthless immortal beings who should have perished in hell a long time ago. You are damnations to Asxairo and I am surprised the Gods themselves have not torn you apart!"
He sneered at them one last time, shaking his head. "No wonder everyone around you dies." He directed his gaze over to Raiyah as he said his following statement. "Including family."
"You are the last person to talk about family and murders considering you committed half of them" Raiyah shot back.
"You're not getting Raebar's body back. No way in hell" Onyx responded.
"Then we have nothing to discuss" the Head Tribe Leader finalized.
He conjured a death spell and shot it in their direction. Onyx shielded the spell with her wings and flew towards Rashnov, stabbing him in the stomach with her sword. His screams filled her ears he fell to the floor, his blood spilling on the tiled floors. He held his hand over the wound and gathered himself up, grabbing Onyx by her throat. "I'm going to bury you alongside your parents" he threatened, slamming her head against a column.
"I dare you" was Onyx's reply.
The chaos broke out again, magic and blood dancing together. Onyx stabbed the head Tribe Leader in his hand, allowing him to let go of her throat. She gathered herself up and aimed a punch towards his jaw, the sound of his bones crunching against her fist.
She grabbed his face and slammed it against the concrete wall, watching as his body fell to the floor. She reached into her boots and pulled out two silver daggers, pinning him against the wall before stabbing the daggers through his hands and onto the wall.
Rashnov gasped, the blood spilling from his hand as the Siphon punched him once more and flew away to continue her reign of terror.
Irene barreled towards her direction, but Azura stepped in front of the siphon just in time to slice her blade across the tribe leader's neck. She fell to the floor in a helpless pile of blood, wincing as she applied pressure to her neck to stop herself from bleeding to death.
"Thank you" Onyx breathed, watching as Azura turned around. "Can't have the future queen dying, can we?" she questioned, giving her a sly smile before she attacked another tribe leader. Onyx headed towards Heather who had Alesandria and Castrin locked in a losing battle. She threw Castrin across the ballroom, his head cracking against the floor as her sister struggled in her grasps.
"Let go of her, you bitch!" Onyx screamed, attacking the tribe leader by her throat. The two danced on the floor in a helpless heap. Fingers and weapons scraping against mil skin as they both struggled to get the upper hand. Heather had the siphon pinned against the floor, her dagger raised high as it rained down and cut through the delicate flesh of her stomach.
A bloody, curling scream escaped Onyx's lips, her legs kicking and managing to hit Heather in the face and splitting her lip open. The tribe leader coughed, blood dribbling down her face and it gave Onyx enough time to grab her sword and scrape the side of her waist until her shirt tore and a chunk of her skin fell on her blade.
Heather hissed and cursed, her body falling to the floor as Onyx overpowered her and locked her in between her knees. The Siphon raised her sword high, ready to kill the conniving witch that dared touch her sister. As the blade pierced through the delicate flesh below her breast, a hand stopped Onyx and a strong arm lifted her from the tribe leader's body.
"Onyx! Listen to me! I'm trying to help!" Rheynoak's voice was raspy and sore as he held her tightly, despite the way she kicked and screamed for him to let go of her. "I don't need your help!" she protested, stabbing his hand until he let go. She turned around and captured him by his throat, locking his neck in her grasp and going behind him to block his body. She raised her sword to his neck, the sharp blade merely skimming the skin of his neck.
"Stop the war or I kill him!" Onyx screamed at no one, capturing everyone's attention. They all turned to her holding Rheynoak hostage, his face flushing blue as he struggled for a tiny breath. "You won't win. Might as well give up now!"
"Take him" Rashnov simply replied from his position. "He won't be missed. He's as much of a disgrace as you are!"
Anger drove her next actions and Onyx plunged her sword into Rheynoak's side. Her former lover screamed and thrashed in her arms, begging her to have mercy on him. To remember the love, they once shared. Onyx, despite the tears that were falling down her face, shook her head.
She turned to her friends, shaking her head. "We need to leave. I think we got our message across. If it's a war they want, it's a war they'll get."
Throwing Rheynoak's body over her shoulder, Onyx conjured several streaks of light towards the glass ceiling of the ballroom. The magical beams shattered the delicate glass that covered the ballroom. Shards of glass rained down into the ballroom, causing a frenzy as everyone flew, ran, and jumped to avoid jagged strands piercing into their skin.
Onyx's wings fluttered once more and picked up a strong gust of wind, lifting her body into the air as she launched herself into the sky and into the violent mayhem that was still raging on outside.
Onyx sent another spark of magic into the air, this time a bolt of lightning streaking across the dark sky, shortly followed by thunder and rumbling.
A warning for her army to retreat.
A/N: And that is the end of Chapter Thirty Two!
This one was a long one, but one of my favorite chapters so far! I love everyone's role in this attack and Onyx and Rheynoak's reunion is just so heartbreaking, but gruesome. This chapter paints Onyx's development as a demi-hybrid and a person.
She not hiding the fact that she is a brutal assassin!
