➽Chapter Five
Onyx felt her breath leave her lips in a silent plea as the Emperor of Elsavior smiled down at her, reaching out to brush a strand of hair from her eyes. "Don't you look lovely this afternoon."
The Siphon felt her cheeks grow warm, her gaze sliding from his intense stare to Venix who simply questioned him with a raised brow, resting her hands on her hips. "And to think Rheynoak was the only dramatic one here" she hissed.
Draco turned his gaze over to the Bloodbone, eyes the marks that decorated the back of her neck. "Spare me your charms, Venix" he hissed, smirking down at her. He patted the Siphon's head, squeezing his way between the two friends to survey the crowd that stood silently before him.
"I must say I am disappointed. I was expecting a much more grand entrance than this unbearable silence" he said harshly, crossing his hands over his chest. Those dark, ruby ringed eyes of his surveyed the members of his nemesis tribe, his gaze hardening on them. "If this is what Rheynoak calls a welcome, I am truly disappointed in this tribe."
The silence weighed down in the atmosphere in a thick coat, the tension so pure, it could have been cut with a knife. Wary eyes strayed from his gaze, directing their gazes to the floor and whispers traveled fast.
After what seemed like hours had passed by, the crowd shifted, the whispers stopping as a figure emerged through. A black cloak kissed the sand, followed by a tall silhouette that had blazing hazel eyes and a frown etched on his face.
"And the infestation begins," the tribe leader said, frowning as he glared at his nemesis with hateful eyes. The Emperor smiled, waving his hand. "Your words are too kind Rheynoak but this dull gathering you call a tribe is rather unimpressive."
The tribe leader growled, balling his hands into a fist. "You keep your filthy mouth shut, you damned excuse for a life" he threatened, baring his teeth. "Get the hell off my tribal grounds."
"I did tell you I was dropping by and technically, it's your father that passed down the tribe to you so you didn't really work for any of this, did you?" Draco hissed, twirling a finger at him. "You just forced more unfortunate souls into your grasp."
Rheynoak growled once again, taking several steps towards his nemesis. His hands didn't hesitate as they grasped him the throat, squeezing every inch of breath there was. The Emperor struggled underneath his grasp, stuttering his words out. No one moved to do anything, all of them frozen with fear as they watched.
Draco rolled out his eyes the front of the crowd, catching sight of Onyx and Alesandria watching in fear. A smirk pulled on his lips, his fingers grasping those that strangled him. "Keep this up and those two will know your dirty secret, traitor."
In an instant, those hazel eyes stopped burning, the fingers loosening around his neck. The tribe leader raised his eyes to scan the crowd, taking in the terrified faces that surrounded him and the concerned expression that crossed the Siphon's face. Her gold eyes raised to meet his, a frown on her lips.
Clearing his throat, Rheynoak tossed his enemy on the ground, wiping his hands on sleeves of his shirt. "Me, you, office. Now" he demanded, his eyes narrowing.
"Kinky" Draco responded back, earning another growl from his enemy. "Shut up, Draco."
"What's wrong, Rhey? Lucien is tired of dealing with your bullshit so now you take it out on me? Poor Siphon baby." That remark earned the Emperor a kick to the ribs and a vicious curse before the tribe leader turned around, stopping away back into the crowd.
"Don't wait up on me, Rheynoak" Draco called out, picking himself up and brushing the sand off of him. Rheynoak only flipped him off with his fingers from behind before his tall silhouette completely disappeared into the crowd.
"How dare you drop into my territory, you useless bastard?"
The glass shattered on the furnished walls, splintering and raining down on the carpeted floor of Rheynoak's office. Bits and pieces fell on the tribe leader's shoulders, some landing on the carpeted floors.
But the pieces of glass seem to simply rain down on the Emperor's shoulders, not even cutting his exposed fingers as they bounced off of him. "This is nothing but your father's stamp of victory you claimed after your brother went missing."
A glint of humor twinkled in his light eyes, those ruby circled orbs shining. "Oh my bad, he was murdered as I seem to remember" he uttered, angering the leader even more.
"Shut your damn mouth before I saw it off with hellfire" he threatened, aiming a punch directly at his face. Unfortunately, Draco moved just in time, instead his knuckles cracking against the hard walls. A hiss of pain and a curse left the leader's lips, blood pooling from
"Are we still going with that story or has time changed it?" he pushed on, arching his brow towards Rheynoak. The Hell Siphon growled again, this time grabbing a sharpened dagger from his desk and aiming it towards the Emperor as well. But as always, he waited until the last second to move, deflating any hope as the sharpened blade sunk into the wall.
"Maybe it's due to old age or I may be missing a few details but the last time we saw each other, I specifically remember saying I was going to drop by in a month or two." Ruby ringed eyes glowed once again. "I don't forget my threats, cherished tribe leader."
Rheynoak hissed underneath his breath, banging his fists against his desk. "This is my territory" he reminded the intruder, glaring harshly at him. "I don't care how many times you uttered those words to me, you are not allowed on my grounds at any times until I permit you."
Draco smiled, flicking fake lints of dirt off the material of his jacket. "Don't boost your ego, dear enemy. This is nothing but your father's legacy you have continued on. Your victories are his victories that you have shamefully claimed and tossed a crown on your head like you worked hard for any of this."
"I have been a tribe leader for more than three hundred years after my brother disappeared" the tribe leader growled, crossing his arms over his shoulders. "My father entrusted me with his legacy before he ventured on his own and I have fulfilled his promises so don't you dare stand in front of me and spill lies."
"Are you done boring me to death?"
Glaring at him once again, Rheynoak watched with careful eyes as his nemesis wandered around his office, running his silver-ringed fingers along the walls where he kept weapons and trophies plastered. His ringed knuckles hissed against the metal of his swords, scuffing the once polished walls.
"Besides" the Emperor purred, stopping in front of his sword to examine it. His fingers danced against the onyx head of the sword and moved all the way down to the yellow topaz that sewed in the middle, surrounded by black, metallic swirls. "Solyerian is descending upon us any times soon. Three days away and I most definitely do not want to miss it."
Rheynoak scowled at the mention of the holiday, crossing his arms over his chest. Solyerian was an ancient holiday, one he remembered so vividly as a child. It was created to honor and praise tribe leaders from all over Asxairo who risked their lives in battles and took new and mysterious magical beings in to train them. A five-day celebration that consisted of dancing, mating, blessings, and oaths.
And the one holiday the tribe leader wanted to damn to hell.
"We do not celebrate that damned holiday here" the tribe leader hissed back, scowling deeply at his nemesis. Draco stopped in his tracks, turning once to glare. "You, out of all the people that wander in this cursed world, do not celebrate the one holiday that praises tribe leaders across Asxairo?" A scuff followed his words, light eyes flickering upwards to the ceiling then back to glaring hazel eyes. "Isn't that something to ponder on?"
"You know I have detested that holiday half of my life. I will not have my people celebrate the audacity that is Solyerian" Rheynoak reminded him, crossing his hands over his chest. Draco simply rolled his eyes, a smirk pulling on his lips. "Oh please, like you have anything to complain about. Your former lover gets ripped into pieces and half of your tribe burns to death and you are still making a fuss about it. Let it go. It was four hundred years ago and frankly, it was your fault for leaving the liquor out."
Rhyenoak sneered at him once again, ignoring the aching thump in his chest. His eyes darted to the daggers plastered on the walls, debating whether or not he could get away with slitting the throat of the snake sitting in front of him.
"My decision stands" he muttered, his tone stern and his nails digging into his skin.
Unfortunately for him, the Emperor shook his head, intertwining his ringed fingers together. "Unacceptable" he replied back, cocking his brows upward. "As long as I am here, we will celebrate Solyerian. This dull desert tribe you call yours can finally have some spark to it."
Hazel eyes narrowed, tan knuckles curling underneath black sleeves. "And who the hell are you to make my decisions for me?!" the tribe leader questioned, pounding his fists on the desks once again. "The last time I checked, I am the leader of this tribe and I make the decisions around here, not you."
A dark chuckle left the emperor's lips, his eyes glinting in amusement as their little banter. "Oh Rhey, you've known me for half of a lifetime and yet you still don't know how my mind works" he purred, twirling his finger at his nemesis."I don't expect you to agree with my terms but that doesn't mean you have room to dismiss them either."
A sinister smirk pulled on his lips as he neared the tribe leader's desk, placing his palms against the cold wood that bit into his skin. "We are going to have this celebration one way or another unless I will be compelled to spill all your secrets to a special little someone of yours."
The tribe leader raised his brows, confusing flashing in his eyes. The Emperor arched his gaze over to the glass window, letting his eyes wander to the sun all the way down to the tribal grounds that were littered with members of Rheynoak's tribe.
"Thousands of women wander on your grounds," he said, tapping his fingers absently on the desk. "Yet you choose one to spend the rest of eternity with."
Cosmic emotions froze over in the tribe leader's blood, all the pieces fitting together like a map. Beautiful emerald ringed gold eyes materialized in his gaze, clouded by the red of his anger even as a hint of her smile and laughter floated around in his mind,
Something shattered within him, the feeling of broken glass prickling his skin. His skin was red hot, his blood simmering under his skin. Rheynoak inhaled sharply, stepping from behind his desk and in front of the tribe leader. His voice was a whisper, his word hissed as he snarled, "Don't you ever bring Onyx into our conversations!"
"Oh like you really care for her" Draco uttered, simply brushing past him. "She is nothing more than another body in your bed, am I right?"
It seemed as if all hell had broken loose at his words, words blurring into nothing but white noise and hazel eyes seeing nothing but death and despair. In an instant, he was in front of the Emperor, grabbing him by the collar and throwing him against a bare wall.
Bones cracked underneath skin as Draco hit the wall with a hard thud, cursing underneath his breath as his head met the carpeted floor. A quick blur flashed before his eyes, blinding as it seemed to disappear into thin air.
Before he could even catch a breath and pull himself back up, Rhyenoak was in front of him again, red and seething as his fingers hooked around his shirt and his fist came crashing down on his face once. Twice. Three times.
Blood spilled from Draco's lips as the taste of copper lingered in the back of his mouth and his head fell back from the pain. Sharp nails dug into his cheekbones, drawing blood as the feeling of fire crept along his skin.
"Never in your entire, filthy existence" the tribe leader hissed once more, pulling his nails down the Emperor's face as more blood spilled from his torn skin. "Speak of my mate in that manner ever again."
His words hardened at the very end, sharpened to the point by a whittled knife as the tribe leader aimed a punch directly at his nemesis's nose. Blood pooled from Draco's nose, falling on his tongue and evaporating into a tangy aftertaste.
"Your mate huh?" Draco asked through his split and bruised lips, simply letting a sly chuckle leave his lips. "Then where is the mating mark? For all I know, you could be fucking her for no real purpose, just desperation. No matter how many times you claim you love her."
Hazel eyes burned into his ringed ruby eyes once again, hot like flames and burning with the vengeance of hell and blood only a Hell Siphon could possess. The Emperor closed his eyes and waited for the impact.
Wind knocked into his body - like knives cutting through flesh - and his back met the polished corner of the desk once again. This time, he hissed as the edge dug into his back, brushing his skin as he met the floor.
Draco could barely see through his swollen eyes as he attempted to open them, only getting as little as a breath out before a boot came crashing down on his ribs. "She's mine" a voice rasping to him, applying more pressure to his ribs. "Only mine."
Growing tired of the way his muscles ached underneath each punch, the Emperor wrapped his arm around Rheynoak's ankle, twisting the bones underneath his skin with a hard twist. The tribe leader grunted at the sharp pain, tears prickling in his eyes as he lifted his foot his foot off of him.
Seeing his window of opportunity, the Emperor wrapped his fingers around the tribe leader's cloak, his other hand clutching his throat and squeezing violently. "In your dreams, killer" he hissed before using all the strength he had to throw him to the wall.
Rhyenoak hit the wall with a thud, his black cloak draping over him as he curled in pain. His knees were brought up to his chest, his palms plastered flat on the ground as he attempted to pull himself back up, a slight puddle of blood dripping from his lips.
"I think I will pay a visit to that mate of yours and Alesandria. I haven't seen them in quite a while" Draco stated, pulling himself back up and brushing his bruised fingers over his formal attire. His light eyes flickered over to the shaking tribe leader, smiling a little as he walked past him.
"Screw you" the tribe leader mustered, spitting blood on the floor.
The Emperor of Elsavior only nodded once again as he headed to the door. "Don't miss me too much, Rhey. I'll see you at Solyerian."
